[Bug 149764] Re: [nvidia] slow gtk popup menus with gtk dual head
FYI, I do the workaround a little differently now than what's described here. Instead of having a session start-up script, I renamed /usr/bin/compiz to /usr/bin/compiz.shipped and then put the workaround script in place of /usr/bin/compiz. So my /usr/bin/compiz looks like this: #!/bin/bash # start compiz DISPLAY=:0.0 compiz.shipped --only-current-screen $* & disown $! sleep 3 DISPLAY=:0.1 compiz.shipped --only-current-screen $* & disown $! You can then enable and disable compiz normally in System -> Preferences -> Appearance -> Visual Effects and it should all just work. You'll need to repeat every time they update compiz though. I too would like some sort of update on this. -- [nvidia] slow gtk popup menus with gtk dual head https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/149764 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 252035] [NEW] Sometimes System -> Quit -> Log Out must be done twice for anything to happen
Public bug reported: I have a Dell XPS M1710 laptop running pure up-to-date Hardy 32-bit. Sometimes when I try to log out via System -> Quit -> Log Out, nothing happens. i.e., the Quit menu closes but I stay logged-in and everything is still running, as if I had just canceled. When I do System -> Quit -> Log Out a second time, it then works. This doesn't happen all the time, but it happens fairly often (at least, relative to how often I log out, which is not a whole lot). Note though that I have never needed to try to log out a third time. It always works by the second time. And it might be that it happens with the other actions in the quit menu too, but I do those even less so I can't really say. $ lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 8.04.1 Release:8.04 ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Sometimes System -> Quit -> Log Out must be done twice for anything to happen https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/252035 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 288093] Re: Can't play sound becuse of pulseaudio hang
Steve, I think you might be right about this being Flash's fault. Thinking back, I think maybe the problem has only happened to me when I left Hulu open. And Flash's ALSA sound support is known to be buggy, so that would make sense. But unfortunately Pulse output is the default ALSA plugin for ALL users now, so we can't confirm this just by asking the people here if they each have that turned on. Maybe another thing to find out is what Flash version we're all using? The bug might only affect certain versions. [Bug 288093] Re: Can't play sound becuse of pulseaudio hang
Yes, pulseaudio is definitely at fault, but it may be brought on by Flash. I recall that the issue is that Flash leaks ALSA handles or something, which might contribute to resource exhaustion in Pulse, and the error messages seems suggestive of that. -- Can't play sound becuse of pulseaudio hang https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/288093 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 306088] [NEW] Flash exits full screen moments after entering it
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: flashplugin-nonfree Whenever I enter full screen mode in any Flash app, the full screen view only stays up for about a second. Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nvidia-glx-180 I am running 32-bit Jaunty on a Dell XPS M1710 laptop with an NVIDIA GeForge Go 7900 GS. Compiz is ON. I have two screens with different vertical resolutions (1920x1200 and 1920x1080). When I enable NVIDIA TwinView, the extra space at the bottom of the larger screen is cut off and shows black. [Bug 295435] [NEW] [Intrepid] pulseaudio periodically gets into a state where it does not play any sound and must be kill -9'ed and restarted
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: pulseaudio Ever since upgrading to Intrepid from Hardy, the pulseaudio daemon periodically gets into a state where it does not play any sound. Some apps will actually freeze if I attempt to play sound in them (e.g., Rhythmbox) while others work normally but with no sound (e.g., Flash in Firefox using aoss and the pulse plugin via the .asoundrc). Trying to kill pulseaudio with -15 has no effect; instead you must use -9. After restarting it, newly opened applications will play sound just fine, until the problem occurs again. It happens about once per day for me, and so far it always seems to be when I'm not home, so perhaps the problem only occurs when sound is not in use? Or maybe there is some sort of gradual leak? Public bug reported: Binary package hint: flashplugin-nonfree I have a Dell XPS M1710 laptop running pure up-to-date Ubuntu Hardy 32-bit. When libflashsupport is installed, viewing videos on YouTube frequently crashes Firefox just as the video is loading. The crash is a segmentation fault, but for some reason there is no crash file for me in /var/crash and apport does not get triggered. Instead I am attaching the output from a gdb session, which contains a full backtrace. [Bug 194638] Re: Compiz gets into a state where going fullscreen in apps causes an X11 BadAlloc error
Happened again today, except this time the bug occurred whenever the video WASN'T in fullscreen mode. I got backtraces for both Totem and MPlayer; they are attached. They don't really say much though, basically just that the program gave a frame to the X server and got back this error. At the time the bug happened, I was only using 75% RAM and 5% of SWAP. After getting the backtraces, I noticed that I had about a dozen instances of SMPlayer open (probably due to a stuck shortcut key that opened too many). After closing them, the bug went away, even though my RAM usage had barely changed (75% -> 72%). Then I tried opening a dozen instances of SMPlayer again (-> 78% RAM usage) and the bug came back. Perhaps the problem is that X and/or Compiz reserves video memory for each app that might need it, even when they haven't asked for it? But that the memory for fullscreen mode is shared? Though that wouldn't explain the original situation where the bug happens in fullscreen mode ... ** Attachment added: "gdb-gmplayer.txt" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/15507381/gdb-gmplayer.txt -- Compiz gets into a state where going fullscreen in apps causes an X11 BadAlloc error https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/194638 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 232375] Re: weather not shown in world-clock-applet when computer timezone differs from home location timezone
Confirmed. I live in Seattle and had my computer's timezone set to America/Vancouver, but the gnome clock applet uses America/Los Angeles for the timezone of the Seattle location, so they didn't match and it never showed the weather in the system tray. Only once I changed the timezones to match did the weather show up properly. (Note that the pull-down window with the calendar and world map _does_ show the weather regardless, it just doesn't show up in the system tray.) Perhaps the author did this deliberately so that only the user's home location's weather would show up in the system tray (i.e., instead of the weather for each location)? I think the right solution though is to have a check box for each location that says "show the weather for this location in the system tray". Or instead just always show the weather for the first location in the list. I have attached a screenshot showing the two places where the timezone must match. ** Attachment added: "Screenshot showing the two places where the timezone must match" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/14693940/Weather%20TimeZone%20Bug.png ** Changed in: gnome-panel (Ubuntu) Status: New => Confirmed -- weather not shown in world-clock-applet when computer timezone differs from home location timezone https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/232375 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 232375] Re: weather not shown in world-clock-applet when computer timezone differs from home location timezone
The main problem is that the user can end up with no weather showing in the system tray, but with no indication of why. I was saying above that you should be able to set a location to be your home location without having to change your computer's timezone to match. (i.e., don't make it depend on tzdata at all.) Alternatively, an even simpler change would be to take the "Set" button that appears in the pull-down menu (the one that sets that to be your home location and changes the timezone) and put it in Preferences -> Locations too, together with the Home icon. That way it becomes much clearer why there's no weather in the system tray. (I've attached a mock-up of this.) Deeta and others in a similar situation could still use the stand-alone Weather Report applet, which doesn't require your timezone to match. The tooltip for the "Set" button should also be changed to "Set this as my home location". Currently it is "Set as current timezone for this computer", which is missing part of the picture. ** Attachment added: "Mock-up showing a UI change that would make things clearer" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/14703292/Weather%20TimeZone%20Mock-up.png -- weather not shown in world-clock-applet when computer timezone differs from home location timezone https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/232375 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 237819] [NEW] Transfer of focus to Find/Replace dialog in Eclipse is considered focus stealing by Compiz
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: compiz In Eclipse, the Find/Replace dialog automatically gains focus when it is opened, or when you press Ctrl+F while it is already open. However, Compiz considers this latter case to be focus stealing (even when focus stealing prevention is set to "Low"), despite the fact that both windows are part of the same app and the transfer is in response to a user action. Repro steps: 1) Enable Compiz, then install compizconfig-settings-manager and enable focus stealing prevention in System -> Preferences -> Advanced Desktop Effects Settings -> General Options -> Focus & Raise Behaviour. 2) Install Eclipse, open it, and open an editor window. 3) Press Ctrl+F to show the Find/Replace dialog. => The dialog gets focus, as expected. 4) Click on the editor to transfer focus back to it. 5) Press Ctrl+F again with the Find/Replace dialog already open. => Although the "Find:" text field gets focus, the actual Find/Replace window does not, so that if you try to type then the keypresses go nowhere. Expected: When Ctrl+F is pressed, the Find/Replace window should always get focus (except perhaps when using very strong focus stealing prevention) I don't know whose bug this is, so I'm opening it against both the Eclipse and Compiz packages. I know you could argue that this is how focus stealing prevention is supposed to work, but it is definitely a bug to consider this focus stealing on the "Low" setting when it is so obviously not focus stealing. Also opened with Eclipse upstream at https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=235965. Note that I have actually installed Eclipse directly from eclipse.org (Version: 3.3.1.1, Build id: M20071023-1652), not the Ubuntu repos, but I'm assuming that this would affect Ubuntu's package too. $ lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 8.04 Release:8.04 $ apt-cache policy compiz compiz: Installed: 1:0.7.4-0ubuntu6 Candidate: 1:0.7.4-0ubuntu6 Version table: *** 1:0.7.4-0ubuntu6 0 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com hardy/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status ** Affects: eclipse Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown ** Affects: compiz (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: eclipse (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: eclipse (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Bug watch added: Eclipse bugs #235965 https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=235965 ** Also affects: eclipse via https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=235965 Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown -- Transfer of focus to Find/Replace dialog in Eclipse is considered focus stealing by Compiz https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/237819 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 238775] [NEW] Firefox randomly and silently exits
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: firefox-3.0 I have a Dell XPS M1710 laptop with a pure, up-to-date Hardy 32-bit installation. When using Firefox it will sometimes silently exit for no apparent reason, as if it crashed, except that apport is not triggered and there is no crash file in /var/crash.
