I can confirm there's now no such issue in Gutsy Gibbon 7.10, Hardy
Heron 8.04 and Intrepid Ibex 8.10 (tested on kernels 2.6.22, 2.6.24 and
2.6.27).

I've forgot to say that I've tested it with Asus P4V800D-X mainboard

which I've had problems with Dapper Drake 6.06.

[Bug 176553] Re: Powertop reports that CPU state is C0 100% of the time, regardless of number of wakeups

2008-11-19 Thread Tomasz Czapiewski
I'm not 100% sure if it's this bug or not but I'm having problem which
looks like that on Xubuntu 8.10 on very old laptop hardware MiTAC-6133.

"cat /proc/acpi/processor/CPU0/power" says:
active state: C0
max_cstate: C7 (or C8, not sure)
...

and I have:
C0 (cpu running) (100%)
C1 0,0ms (0%)
C2 0,0ms (0%)
C3 0,0ms (0%)

Which is indeed just like it shows even if my CPU usage is only ~1-2%
becase I have CPU Fan running at full speed with ACPI turned ON. When I
boot _without_ ACPI CPU Fan is working just like it should - only when
CPU usage is high. To use ACPI I have to boot with "acpi=force" option
passed to kernel because of BIOS older than year 1999. Besides this CPU
idle states all ACPI features work great - CPU throttling, Lid button,
Power button, Sleep, Battery status, Power off, etc.

2008-11-20 Thread Tomasz Czapiewski
Sorry for flooding bug comment. I can now confirm that this bug doesn't
exist for me and I have get rid of my bug, too. Kernel parameters
"acpi=force nolapic noapic idle=halt" solved my problems. And these
"ifconfig : pcnet_open (ei_watchdog)" I have only with ethernet cable
pluged in so I think it must be much traffic on ethernet waking up CPU
from idle. Interesting that limiting CPU idle state to C0-C1 with HALT
eats less power than default C0-C3 and with HALT I have fan working only
when CPU usage is high.

2009-05-13 Thread Tomasz Czapiewski
It's not solved there. There is ugly workaround for it on arch.
To get rid of that problem by the time when it's going to be fixed I've
disabled kubuntu-ppa repository and reverted Qt from 4.5.1 to 4.5.0 packages
I've had in apt cache from standard repositories ("sudo dpkg -i
/var/cache/apt/archives/*qt*4.5.0*deb").
Now RSSNow is working properly under KDE 4.2.3.

[Bug 351990] Re: Kubuntu freezes when desktop effects are enabled

2009-04-18 Thread Tomasz Czapiewski
I've said before this issue doesn't seem to exist on my hardware but after a
bit more testing I found it does exist, too.
But if I use Kubuntu and desktop effects only for konsole/yakuake, konqueror,
kontact (kmail), plasma applets etc. kde4 apps is stable for me and I haven't
experienced freeze (yet). I use my computer for few hours a day. But I can
reproduce hangs by for example use k3b 1.0.5 (kde3 app) and for example tvtime
for analog tv watching using xv at the same time (kdetv doesn't work in kubuntu
9.04 (regression in 9.04 after upgrade from 8.10 - described in bug #325874)
but it occurs after some time and using dialogs in k3b. I've found that it
occurs (I think) with gtk apps too on kubuntu (it happened to me just one time
or maybe twice). It might be because of one of desktop effects plugins (one of
the enabled by default). After hang I can still use sysrq (mostly).
Graphic card: Sapphire Radeon 9600 256MB AGP 8x (RV350).

[Bug 368461] Re: desktop freeze with kwin desktop effects on Radeon X600 and X1600

2009-05-07 Thread Tomasz Czapiewski
@3ntix,
Yes, I've experienced all three types of crash you've reported and thanks for
list them here.

I've got jaunty-proposed and jaunty-backports repos enabled.

I don't remember when I saw the first one last time - it's been mostly
reproductable for me by using gnome/gtk or kde3 apps and wine and I
could do few crashes in few minutes then but now I use only kde4 apps
(with the exception for kde3 k3b) and haven't experienced this bug for a
week or so.

For the second bug I haven't experienced more time than the first one
(something more than a week (maybe two)).

The third is does occur frequently (something like once a day or once a
two days). It's experienced mostly by my wife (she uses firefox,
thunderbird, sometimes tvtime - everything on kde 4.2.2 on kubuntu with
default enabled desktop effects).

My card is Radeon 9600 AGP 256MB (RV350).

[Bug 325874] Re: [JauntyKdetv does not see/show my tv card (regression)

2009-04-27 Thread Tomasz Czapiewski
For me tvtime doesn't get more cpu time than kdetv - both use xv for
video acceleration and cpu usage is really small even in 924x... tv
input resolution from tv card. I've converted channel list from kdetv to
tvtime format and now I use tvtime temporary. I'm using open source
xserver-xorg-video-ati drivers on ATI Radeon 9600, so the problem with
kdetv is not only with nvidia cards/drivers.

2009-04-27 Thread Tomasz Czapiewski
And this:
-
Section "Module"
Load "v4l"
EndSection
-
in /etc/X11/xorg.conf didn't help me to get any of my analog video devices to
being recognised by kdetv. It's just the same as without this option. (and yes,
I've restarted Xserver and even rebooted computer to double check that).
I assume it might be a problem with kde3/qt3 libraries in jaunty as most of the
xserver and it's extension related libs dependency is simmilar in both kdetv
and tvtime or maybe kdetv package just needs to be recompiled using jaunty
kde3/qt3 development headers/libraries(?).

[Bug 339131] Re: vlc crashed with SIGSEGV in QMenu::findIdForAction()

2009-05-18 Thread Tomasz Czapiewski
Qt 4.5.1 from kubuntu-experimental breaks Plasma compatibility with KDE
4.2.x - it's visible for example in RSSNow, so it's not a good
proposition for SRU. I've get some information from upstream that Qt
4.5.1 has some fixes but it has few known regressions since 4.5.0 but
it's been fixed in next version (shipped with KDE 4.3). KDE team does
not recommend or support mixing Qt 4.5.x with KDE 4.2.x so the fixes
should be imported very carefully.

[Bug 284408] Re: r3xx Hardware does not work with fglrx

2008-11-05 Thread Tomasz Czapiewski
Yesterday I've installed Intrepid (Kubuntu) with Radeon 9600 and the
installation went without problems with xserver-xorg-video-ati as default video
driver. (Internet connection was enabled durring installation)
I've tested livecd on other computers with R300 cards (like X300 and some
motherboard-integrated) - everywere the livecd used xserver-xorg-video-ati
driver, desktop effects were enabled, glxinfo and xvinfo worked OK.

If fglrx cannot be fixed without AMD/ATI, will you provide updated fglrx driver
in intrepid-updates when AMD/ATI release new driver this month?
xserver-xorg-video-ati driver works without problems but fglrx driver provides
better speed and many more opengl functions for these cards.

[Bug 284408] Re: r3xx Hardware does not work with fglrx

2008-10-31 Thread Tomasz Czapiewski
I was scared by the Ubuntu 8.10 Release Notes instruction:
"ATI "fglrx" video support

The ATI video driver in 8.10 drops support for video cards with r300
based chips (the Radeon 9500 - X600 Series of cards). If you have such a
card, please use "Hardware Drivers" at System/Administration to disable
it before the upgrade. Please see bug 284408 for more information "

Is it confirmed that AMD has dropped support for R300 chips or is it just a bug
in the new Xorg and kernel adaptation in the driver?
I use AMD FGLRX 8.10 driver on Hardy downloaded from AMD website and it works
without problems on my (desktop) Radeon 9600 (RV350).
I was managing to upgrade to Intrepid in few days.

[Bug 263555] Re: [intrepid] 2.6.27 e1000e driver places Intel ICH8 and ICH9 gigE chipsets at risk

2008-10-03 Thread Tomasz Czapiewski
Will You update/rebuild beta cd/dvd images once fix is released?

Sorry for negative opinion but it's ridiculous that many people who have such
ethernet cards can't use this beta because of not functional network card and
even can't get fixed packages by update without other Internet connection.
It should be at least mentioned as warning in release anouncement.
In my opinion any release should have been delayed because of such bugs.

I really like Kubuntu and Ubuntu distributions but it's release cycles
should be more flexible to make the best product as it can be. For
example I can't even boot Ubuntu Hardy Heron (LTS) shipped CDs on about
80% PCs around on which Gutsy Gibbon worked without problems and I still
can't use my DVD+/-RW drive at home with latest Hardy kernel updates - I
need to use Gutsy kernel.

And once more sorry for a little OT.

Keep up good work.

[Bug 306908] Re: latest openoffice.org-kde causes crash

2008-12-16 Thread Tomasz Czapiewski
I can confirm this bug, too. I've tested these openoffice.org packages on three
different machines - two of them with just installed clean kubuntu 8.10
installations and upgrade with openoffice.org-pkgs repository.
On two machines I've tested the packages uploaded to the openoffice.org-pkgs
repository just before they have been removed (because of openoffice.org-gnome
bug) and these packages worked without problems in kubuntu (with
openoffice.org-kde installed). On one machine I've upgraded openoffice to the
latest packages and it broke the openoffice.org installation - this machine had
openoffice.org 3.0 from the openoffice.org-pkgs ppa working with older 3.0
build from the same ppa.

[Bug 306908] Re: latest openoffice.org-kde causes crash

2008-12-16 Thread Tomasz Czapiewski
I'm not sure that I've said it clear. Two machines are upgraded to the
latest openoffice.org packages from openoffice.org-pkgs ppa and there
openoffice.org crashes when openoffice.org-kde is installed and the
third machine has older openoffice.org packages from openoffice.org-pkgs

openoffice.org-kde installed.

[Bug 338074] Re: FFe: please sync with upstream version of Gnash .8.5

2009-03-17 Thread Tomasz Czapiewski
I've tested one of the latests svn build few days before the 0.8.5
release and I'm supprised how it works. It's already great. It works a
lot better than Adobe Flash Plugin in Konqueror. I can watch youtube
videos (and navigate there, too), watch flash banners and advertisers,
use flash menus on the web sites. It doesn't crash as frequently as
original flash plugin and it's FLOSS. It consumes much of the CPU power
when watching flash video but adobe plugin does it, too (and is more
buggy). It's not (yet) 100% compatibile with original flash but it's
compatibility is very promising.

[Bug 325874] Re: [JauntyKdetv does not see/show my tv card (regression)

2009-04-01 Thread Tomasz Czapiewski
I experience the same bug.
Before upgrade (from 8.10 to 9.04) all my video devices worked just fine -
"noname" BT878 analog tv card, AVerTV GO 007 FM Plus SAA7xxx analog tv card,
usb webcam - they worked from kubuntu 6.06 til now.
Video devices are recognised properly by kernel (had to pass options for
modules to use specified tuner) and are working properly in other analog tv
apps (for example tvtime) but are not found by kdetv.
The kdetv version is the same as in (k)ubuntu 8.10 (0.8.9) so it looks like
packaging or patching problem.
Since lintv is not ready yet, I have no kde alternative to watch analog tv in
my computer (using tvtime or xawtv is not an option for me).
Tried V4L1, V2L2, XV video import plugins in kdetv - none of them seems to work.

[Bug 351990] Re: Kubuntu freezes when desktop effects are enabled

2009-04-01 Thread Tomasz Czapiewski
It looks this issue doesn't exist on my RV350 (Radeon 9600). I've upgraded
Kubuntu 8.10 to 9.04 (x86) few days ago and since then I've been running my
computer for few hours a day with KDE desktop effects just fine. I tried some
OpenGL games and apps running for few hours, too. Since then I haven't noticed
any problems with "radeon" driver.
Might it be an issue for R4xx and R5xx cards?

[Bug 328528] Re: [i865G] UXA locks up system (UXA bug)

2009-04-02 Thread Tomasz Czapiewski
I've done some testing on i865G and I found that Xorg locks up with UXA
(enabled manually by Option "AccelMethod" "UXA" in xorg.conf) when "drm" and
"i830" kernel modules are not loaded - they are not loaded at startup time.
It's strange that DRI is disabled by Xorg [(**) intel(0): DRI is disabled
because it fails to run on 845G and 865G chips. (See LP 304871)] - even when
passing Option "DRI" "true" to xorg.conf.
I've booted todays kubuntu jaunty i386 cd with EXA enabled by default on this
chipset, then stoped KDM (checked in process list that "X" is not running - "ps
aux | grep X"), then added 'Option "AccelMethod" "UXA"' in Device section in
/etc/X11/xorg.conf. Next I've done 'sudo modprobe i830' in console so it loaded
'drm' and 'i830' modules - /dev/dri/card0 has appeared, then started pure Xorg
by 'sudo X' - Xorg has run without problems (black screen but I suppose it's ok
because on EXA and XAA have the same. Then I've installed 'xterm' and run
'DISPLAY=:0.0 xterm' as root on other console - then xterm connected but right
after lost it's connection to xserver.

Then I saw that Xorg started from console showed this (just after the xterm
tried to connect to X):
X: ../../src/i830_batchbuffer.h:78: intel_batch_emit_dword: Assertion
`pI830->batch_ptr != ((void *)0)' failed.
(and core dumped, but I didn't found that core file by "find / -iname '*core*'"
that would be core dump)

I'm attaching Xorg.0.log with that UXA start, too but I can't see errors
there.

Then I've tried to modprobe and rmmod intel drm modules - insert i810 module
(no error but no dri device), removing all drm modules - i830, i810 and drm -
dri device in /dev/dri/card0 has disappeared and modules have unloaded (double
checked by "lsmod | less" and "lsmod | grep i8", "lsmod | grep drm").
Then I've started X just the same way as before - it have not crashed or
locked, connected xterm - then it has crashed with just the same error.

I've repeated the whole procedure 3 times (with rebooting cd) and always the
same results - X locks up system with UXA when no drm modules loaded, but
crashes X (when connecting xterm or other X apps) when drm kernel modules for
this chipset are loaded - since then it crashes (not locks up) even when I
unload kernel modues until I reboot and start once more from the same cd.
Kernel drm modules does not change anything with EXA or XAA - I've checked
that, too. It could change somthing if DRI could be enabled at Xorg startup.

Maybe there were other modules than 'drm' and 'i830' which where loaded
by 'modprobe i830' and I've should done diff from 'lsmod' before and
after modprobe but I haven't thought about it then and I've didn't do it
and now I don't have access to that hardware and probably wont have
access to it until RC or stable release of Jaunty.

Can anyone confirm that?

loaded and xterm trying to connect to X locally"

[Bug 333246] Re: psi + QT 4.5 hang on chat window

2009-04-03 Thread Tomasz Czapiewski
I can confirm that psi package version 0.12-2 from universe repo has
this bug that when you try to write text in "chat" window psi freezes,
but in "send message" window doesn't freeze. When app is freezing, psi
does not output any error message in console. The 0.13-svn~maarten5
version from ppa mentioned before solves the problem.

[Bug 318849] Re: Deprecated klash kde3 binaries removed and not replaced with gnash-kde4

2009-04-06 Thread Tomasz Czapiewski
@Sindhudweep Sarkar:
Packages in yours ppa don't fix this issue.
Just take a look at konqueror-plugin-gnash and klash packages - they have just
docs, no binaries inside.
According to 'configure' script gnash has to be configured with
"--enable-gui=kde4 --enable-kparts4" options for Klash build and Konqueror
plugin support.

@Sindhudweep Sarkar:
Yours 0.8.5-0ubuntu1~ppa2 packages are older for apt/dpkg than those in

Please take a look at kde4 services files here:

But one suggestion: /usr/share/kde4/apps/klash/pluginsinfo might contain:

[Bug 318849] Re: Deprecated klash kde3 binaries removed and not replaced with gnash-kde4

2009-04-06 Thread Tomasz Czapiewski
Maybe 0.8.5-0ubuntu2~ppa2 as package version? Then new version in ubuntu
repositories like 0.8.5-0ubuntu2 and up should superceed it on upgrade.
I can now confirm that klash works properly with flash content on some sites
I've tested (launched by "kde4-gnash http://website/flash_content.swf"; in
console - urls and content parameters extracted from web sites source) and
indeed "description=Shockwave Flash 10.0.0.544" would help a lot - there are
many sites with excessive dependency on flash 9 or 10 even with simple flash
content which flash compatibile player compatibile with 6 or 7 can process
without problems.

[Bug 341898] Re: MythTV Frontend does not work with RADEON DRI

2009-07-12 Thread Tomasz Czapiewski
It looks like this bug still exists in updated Kubuntu Jaunty.

Packages:

mythtv 0.21.0+fixes19961-0ubuntu8
xserver-xorg1:7.4~5ubuntu18
xserver-xorg-core2:1.6.0-0ubuntu14
libgl1-mesa-dri7.4-0ubuntu3.2

I've just installed mythtv (for the first time in Jaunty).
Mythtv, mythfrontend and even mythtv-setup windows are not being
displayed/refreshed and many bugs in terminal:
X Error: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes) 8

  Minor opcode: 0
  Resource id: 0x3800030.

Adding 'export XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS="1"' to /etc/mythtv/session-

I cannot confirm that bug on Kubuntu 6.10 RC on laptop with ATI Radeon IGP 200M

When you have this black screen, could you swith to the text console and login?
(CTRL+ALT+F1)
Try to switch to the text console, login, type: sudo dmesg, copy the output to
file. Also you can copy the syslog file (or maybe just 30 last lines from it).
Put (paste) them somewhere so we can look at them.
If you can't swith to the first text console try to switch to others

2006-09-15 Thread Tomasz Czapiewski
I've got the same problem with AGPGART on my PT880Ultra chipset Asus P4V800D-X
mainboard.
It needs a small fix in via-agp.c

It's fixed in 2.6.17 kernel:

commit 7dd1d9b85cfb63eebf48fa13d3c5d25a3deb3a25
Author: Magnus Kessler <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
Date: Mon May 22 10:53:10 2006 +0100

[AGPGART] VIA PT880 Ultra support.

This patch enables agpgart on a Via "PT880 Ultra" based motherboard
(Asus P4V800D-X). The PCI ID of the PT880 Ultra is 0x0308 instead of
0x0258 of the PT880.

The patched via-agp passes testgart.

Signed-off-by: Magnus Kessler <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
Signed-off-by: Dave Jones <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

Could you include this fix in Dapper Drake 2.6.15 kernel?

[Bug 14911] Re: Flash plugin problem with ARGB visuals causes crash

2006-10-11 Thread Tomasz Czapiewski
It seems that now Edgy's firefox 2.0rc2 (1.99+2.0rc2+dfsg-0ubuntu1) has this
bug, too.
Tried running firefox even with '--sync --safe-mode' command line options but
it didn't help.
Gdb didn't say anything usefull, too.

Running 'XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1 firefox' is a good workaround to run
without crashes.

It looks that new flashplugin-nonfree (7.0.68~ubuntu3) and firefox
(1.99+2.0rc2+dfsg-0ubuntu2) didn't fix this bug either.
Even removing packages: "firefox libnss3 libnss-dev firefox-dev

libmyspell3c2", then installing them and deleting firefox profile didn't fix
that problem.

[Bug 146145] Re: Can't recive files from cell phone

2007-12-08 Thread Tomasz Czapiewski
It's very annoying that the bug with file receiving over obex protocol
on bluetooth doesn't work in Gutsy. Why haven't you backport
kdebluetooth from hardy to gutsy? It's over two months from this bug
report. If you don't want to backport the hardy version you can just
apply a fix from hardy to gutsy version and release it as update/fix.
For me one one of the main reasons for migration to gutsy from dapper
was better bluetooth services handling and I'm disappointed with that. I
know that there may appear some bugs in the stable release as some of
them can't be catched before release but they should be fixed as soon as
it's possible. Too bad my network connection is so slow (28kbps dial-
up). If it were better I'd probably build a fixed package for that.

libkbluetooth0_1.0~beta9~r734866-0ubuntu6_i386.deb packages from hardy
on gutsy and it works without problems now but I have unsatisfied
dependencies forced - both packages wanted kdelibs4c2a (>= 4:3.5.8-1)
but gutsy has 4:3.5.8-0ubuntu3.1. It can be other temporary workaround
for those who can't or don't want to compile kdebluetooth from sources.
