[Bug 1905510] [NEW] utils-linux 2.36.1 breaks user mounts (cifs)
Public bug reported: I'm working on merging samba from Debian (2:4.13.2+dfsg-1), and while running the autopkgtests for the package I noticed that two tests are failing. These tests attempt to invoke mount.cifs in order to mount a user mount point. I investigated and found this on dmesg: [ 53.586709] CIFS: Attempting to mount //localhost/myshare1760 [ 53.586735] CIFS: Unknown mount option "symfollow" After some more investigation, I noticed that there are both a Debian and an upstream bug reported about this failure, and that upstream has fixed it in util-linux 2.36.2. I would be nice to have this version in hirsute so that cifs user mounts can work again. ** Affects: util-linux-ng Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown ** Affects: util-linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: util-linux (Debian) Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown ** Bug watch added: github.com/karelzak/util-linux/issues #1193 https://github.com/karelzak/util-linux/issues/1193 ** Also affects: util-linux-ng via https://github.com/karelzak/util-linux/issues/1193 Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown ** Bug watch added: Debian Bug tracker #975003 https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=975003 ** Also affects: util-linux (Debian) via https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=975003 Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1905510 Title: utils-linux 2.36.1 breaks user mounts (cifs) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/util-linux-ng/+bug/1905510/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1905285] Re: socket-activated sshd breaks on concurrent connections
Thanks for the report. I was able to reproduce this bug. Basically: $ systemctl start ssh.socket $ ssh-keyscan localhost Interesting enough, I wasn't able to solve the problem by setting RuntimeDirectoryPreserve=yes. I edited sshd.service and added the directive there, but I still see the fatal errors on /var/log/auth.log. Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't have the time right now to dive deep into this. Marcin, as Seth said above, the right way to edit a systemd unit file is to invoke "systemctl edit", which will make sure that the new .service file is installed in a way that won't get ovewritten when you upgrade your package/system. You might want to use the "--full" option when invoking the command, which will already pre-fill the new file with the contents of the original .service. I'm marking this bug as Triaged and setting the priority to Medium. Hopefully someone will be able to work on it soon. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1905285 Title: socket-activated sshd breaks on concurrent connections To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openssh/+bug/1905285/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1905423] Re: Rabbit reports "file descriptor limit alarm set", does not accept connections
Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report. Would you be able to come up with a way for us to reproduce this bug? I understand that it must be happening in a production environment where thousands of connections are being made, but maybe we can come up with a way to reproduce it locally as well. Does this bug happen often, or is it the first time it happened? I tried finding some similar cases on the internet, but what I found were reports of real scenarios where increasing the fd limit solved the problem. Curiously, one of the solutions was to add the LimitNOFILE directive to the systemd unit file, which is already present in your case. I'm subscribing the Ubuntu Server team to this bug so that we can follow it closely. ** Changed in: rabbitmq-server (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1905423 Title: Rabbit reports "file descriptor limit alarm set", does not accept connections To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rabbitmq-server/+bug/1905423/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Everything went fine, including the configuration process of grub- legacy-ec2. In my test system, here is what I saw: Setting up grub-legacy-ec2 (1:1) ... Searching for GRUB installation directory ... found: /boot/grub Searching for default file ... I have also gotten the full log, whereas in your case it appears that the log has been cut. Do you have access to the full output of the "apt-get" command you executed? It is hard to say for certain, but it seems to me that there might be a local configuration error in your system that is preventing the package from completing its setup. Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report. Based on the error messages posted in the description of the bug, it seems to me like there was some race condition on dpkg and it was unable to acquire the necessary lock to perform the operation. Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report. >From the logs, it is not possible to obtain the information necessary to investigate. I am thinking that this may be a local configuration issue, but I'm not sure. Did you do any local modifications to the PHP configuration files, or are you using the ones shipped by Ubuntu? Thanks for providing more information. Unfortunately, I still cannot reproduce the problem. This time I tried using a Hirsute VM instead of a container, but everything worked as expected. I was able to send an email from inside the VM, the email went through without problems, and I received it successfully. You mentioned that you experience the issue even if you configure postfix to act as a satellite system. Could you perhaps provide the configuration files you used to do that? I did the same here, and I think it is unlikely that the problem is in some configuration file, but hey, here goes nothing... Also, and I apologize if you have already done this, but please make sure that your Hirsute system is up-to-date. [Bug 1917336] Re: Mailman does not honour MAILMAN_USER on startup
Thanks for the bug report. This happens because of how systemd handles /var/run/. If you look at the directory, you will see that it is actually a symlink to /run/. This directory is populated on every boot. There are a few ways that packages can choose in order to create directories under this directory; mailman chooses to use a tmpfiles.d configuration file. If you look at /usr/lib/tmpfiles.d/mailman.conf you will see this: # path mode uid gid d /run/mailman 0755 list list d /run/lock/mailman 2775 root list In order to achieve what you want, you need to change the "uid" field in the first line. The recommended way to change this file is to actually create a copy of it under /etc/tmpfiles.d/, so that you don't change the original file from the package (which could get overwritten during an update). To summarize, your file /etc/tmpfiles.d/mailman.conf should look like: # path mode uid gid d /run/mailman 0755 www-data list d /run/lock/mailman 2775 root list I am closing this bug as Invalid because it is a local configuration question rather than a problem, but please let us know if the steps above don't work for you. Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report. Based on the logs you posted, it seems like you have both MySQL and MariaDB installed in the system. This scenario is not really supported and can lead to errors, especially during the upgrade/removal processes, which is your case. Thanks for the further investigation, Stephane and Ryan. Much appreciated! It would be interesting to know if lincvz could test an openldap built with Ryan's patch, to check if he can still reproduce the bug with it. I am going to prepare a PPA with Ryan's patch and let you know ASAP. [Bug 1912389] Re: [Patch] SIGSEGV: crash when certificate contains extension longer than 512 bytes
Thanks, Graham. This issue impacts Hirsute and Impish. For Impish, the best course of action here would be to wait for Debian to pick up this fix, which would then mean that Ubuntu would automatically pick it up as well. Given that Debian is in freeze right now, I don't know if the net-snmp maintainers there are planning to work on it anytime soon. For Hirsute, we'd need to go through the SRU process. The first step here would be to come up with a reliable set of steps to reproduce this issue, which I haven't been able to do so far (I confess I haven't had the time to test your Let's Encrypt suggestion, though). I will see if I can reproduce it locally and then start the SRU process. If you already have a detailed set of steps to reproduce the bug, please let me know. [Bug 1912389] Re: [Patch] SIGSEGV: crash when certificate contains extension longer than 512 bytes
** Description changed: + [ Impact ] + + Users can experience a segmentation fault on snmpd (part of net-snmp) + when using a certificate that contains an extension longer than 512 + bytes and debug output (-D) is enabled. [Bug 1894618] Re: samba vfs glusterfs shares do not work because glusterfs.so is missing from samba-vfs-modules
Thank you for your interest in this issue. Let me start by addressing the question of why we can't (or rather "don't want") to provide a samba-vfs-glusterfs package without the direct dependency to glusterfs. We strive to provide good quality packages for Ubuntu users, and that means that if a user issues an "apt- get install samba-vfs-glusterfs" command, we want everything to be ready to be used when that command finishes. Having a package that doesn't fully list its dependencies/recommends goes against this goal. As Robie mentioned above, this issue could be driven by someone from the community who has the time and motivation to do the rest of the work. Please note that this person would be working to get the package into the development release of Ubuntu; more work would be needed in order to make this available in Focal (if that's even possible). Having said that, I'd like to say that I understand the frustration here. I put together a PPA containing a samba package for Focal with the glusterfs module enabled. Instead of doing what Andreas did and making sure that the new package doesn't depend on glusterfs (which is in universe), I decided to leave things closer to what Debian does and let it depend on anything that is needed. Please not that this package would not be suitable for the current state of the archive. The PPA is at: https://launchpad.net/~sergiodj/+archive/ubuntu/samba-glusterfs The git repository containing this temporary package is here: https://code.launchpad.net/~sergiodj/ubuntu/+source/samba/+git/samba/+ref /glusterfs-focal I will talk to the team tomorrow and see what can be done regarding this bug, but I make no promises here. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1894618 Title: samba vfs glusterfs shares do not work because glusterfs.so is missing from samba-vfs-modules To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/samba/+bug/1894618/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1929859] Re: wine and wine-development FTBFS with OpenLDAP 2.5
OK, I've posted both patches now. You will notice that they are basically the same; this is because both projects share the same orig tarball (or at least a very big part of it). These patches introduce a rename of the "ldap_connect" function (which is now present on OpenLDAP 2.5 as well) to something else in order to prevent the FTBFS. You can find a PPA with both packages built (along with OpenLDAP 2.5) here: https://launchpad.net/~ci-train-ppa- service/+archive/ubuntu/4559/+packages The patches are "backported" from a solution provided by one of the Wine developers. This solution is not upstream and I don't know if it will be adopted or not, because the development version of wine fixed this problem using another approach (which is much harder to backport). Having said that, I talked to the Debian Wine maintainer and he told me he plans to update both wine and wine-development on Debian until the end of the year. Once he does that, we won't need these patches anymore. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1929859 Title: wine and wine-development FTBFS with OpenLDAP 2.5 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/wine/+bug/1929859/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1926265] Re: slapd enter in infinite loop on sched_yield syscall
Hello lincvz, Sorry about the delay. I have been busy with other stuff and did not have time to follow up on this bug. Here is the lay of the land right now: 1) Unfortunately, it is unlikely that we will be able to get the SRU team to accept an upload that reintroduces an issue. This means that removing the patch that causes the infinite loop is something that we would rather not do, because another problem will reappear. 2) The ideal course of action here would be to investigate whether it would be possible to backport the patch at https://github.com/openldap/openldap/commit/735e1ab14bb055344b4e767a216aa410aa7d1503 and make it fully work. This is probably a non-trivial task, as Ryan himself said. I am still looking into a possible solution for this, but I cannot guarantee anything for now, I'm sorry (I'm very busy with other stuff, including updating OpenLDAP in Impish to 2.5!) Given that I have provided a PPA with a package that fixes the issue for you, I would say that for now you are better off using it. Last, but not least: if you feel like giving it a try and trying to backport https://github.com/openldap/openldap/commit/735e1ab14bb055344b4e767a216aa410aa7d1503 to the openldap version that's in Bionic, that would be awesome. We can review whatever you have and guide you through the SRU process. [Bug 1933266] [NEW] Adjustment needed for OpenLDAP 2.5.5
Public bug reported: With the OpenLDAP 2.5.5 transition ongoing, golang-openldap needs to be adjusted to depend on the proper OpenLDAP library version. Please find a patch to fix this below. The patch has also been proposed to Debian: https://salsa.debian.org/go-team/packages/golang- openldap/-/merge_requests/1 Arguably, this package should probably be removed from the archive because it's been abandoned upstream and there is a better alternative in Debian (golang-gopkg-ldap.v3-dev), but for now we will need this change. ** Affects: golang-openldap (Ubuntu) Importance: High Assignee: Sergio Durigan Junior (sergiodj) Status: Confirmed ** Patch added: "golang-openldap-2.5.patch" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1933266/+attachment/5506302/+files/golang-openldap-2.5.patch -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1933266 Title: Adjustment needed for OpenLDAP 2.5.5 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/golang-openldap/+bug/1933266/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

This is a very bad practice. 2) There is no proper use of "extern" in the source code, so all the variables declared in the header file above get re-declared every time the header is included. It's a mess. Upstream will probably need to re-engineer the code in a massive way, which is not feasible/recommended on our side, so I came up with an ugly but functional hack that fixes the FTBFS without changing much. I will post the patch soon. Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report. I'm afraid we will need more information to understand what's happening. For what it's worth, I launched a Focal LXD container and was able to successfully install freeradius-ldap. When I examined the log files attached to this bug (more specifically the DpkgTerminalLog.txt), I noticed the following messages: freeradius-ldap (3.0.20+dfsg-3build1) wird eingerichtet ... Can you check the output of "systemc status freeradius.service" and "journalctl -xe" and paste their contents here, please? Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report. I launched a Focal LXD container and repeated the last commands you issued to install Apache2, MariaDB and php-mysql (as seen in the DpkgHistoryLog.txt). I was able to install all three packages sequentially without any problems. I tried to purge and reinstall packages to see if I could force any failure, to no avail. Here's what I tried: # apt purge apache2 # apt install apache2 # apt install --reinstall libapache2-mod-php7.4 These two lines from your bug description seem to be relevant: modified.conffile..etc.apache2.mods-available.php7.4.conf: [deleted] modified.conffile..etc.apache2.mods-available.php7.4.load: [deleted] I'm not sure how those files got deleted, but they shouldn't have. Can you provide more info on the exact steps you took in order to trigger this bug? Also, if you could provide a reliable reproducer for it (you can try using an LXD container for that), that would be great. Since it seems likely to me that this is a local configuration problem, rather than a bug in Ubuntu, I am marking this bug as 'Incomplete'. However, if you believe that this is really a bug in Ubuntu, then we would be grateful if you would provide a more complete description of the problem with steps to reproduce, explain why you believe this is a bug in Ubuntu rather than a problem specific to your system, and then change the bug status back to "New". [Bug 1932980] Re: window title in mate terminal not change after I logout from ssh
Thank you for the bug report. It seems to me that this is a MATE-specific configuration, and not something related to openssh. When you ssh into a host, ssh takes control of the terminal and the PS1 variable becomes something else, which is reflected on the window title. [Bug 1933391] [NEW] FTBFS with PHP 8.0 on Impish

Here's the full log for more details: https://launchpadlibrarian.net/544879021/buildlog_ubuntu-impish- amd64.kopanocore_8.7.0-7.1ubuntu3_BUILDING.txt.gz The problem happens because the php-mapi binary package cannot be built. The php-mapi package carries PHP bindings, and they are compatible with PHP 7.4 only. Here's the lay of the land: - kopanocore has been orphaned in Debian. It's a complex package and is lagging behind from upstream (Debian and Ubuntu carry version 8.7, whereas upstream is already on version 11). - Initially we thought it'd be possible to just get rid of the php-mapi package and be done with it. Indeed, doing this makes the package build fine, but unfortunately php-mapi has reverse deps: Reverse-Depends * kopano-webapp-common * z-push-backend-kopano * z-push-kopano-gab2contacts * z-push-kopano-gabsync - The z-push package is *also* orphaned in Debian. - Upstream kopanocore already supports PHP 8.0, but I don't think the patch is backportable: https://github.com/Kopano-dev/kopano- core/commit/9b3bbd27ea63af180ce73a30a218d34b6e6535a4 But I may be wrong. - Last, but not least, kopanocore blocks the OpenLDAP 2.5 transition. I'm not entirely convinced of what the best course of action is here. I don't think that we can just remove php-mapi and the related rdeps, but OTOH backporting the patch mentioned above or updating the whole kopanocore package seems too difficult. ** Affects: kopanocore (Ubuntu) Importance: High Status: Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1933391 Title: FTBFS with PHP 8.0 on Impish To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kopanocore/+bug/1933391/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I am taking care of this one. It is important to mention that this could arguably be considered to be a bug on libselinux, given that it shouldn't dereference pointers without checking first (especially pointers that were passed to the library by its clients). However, in this case it makes sense to fix this in gssproxy as well. ** Description changed: + [ Impact ] - I have apache configured to perform a kerberized NFS4 mount using rpc.gssd and gssproxy. + gssproxy users on Focal and Hiruste who configure the package to handle + NFS mountpoints using Kerberos authentication will experience a + segmentation fault when invoking the service either through systemd or + by hand. + + [ Test Case] + + Inside a Focal LXD container: + + $ lxc launch images:ubuntu/focal gssproxy-bug1788459-focal + $ lxc shell gssproxy-bug1788459-focal + # apt update + # apt install -y gssproxy nfs-kernel-server + # cat > /etc/gssproxy/gssproxy.conf << __EOF__ + [gssproxy] + debug = true + debug_level = 3 + __EOF__ + # cat >> /etc/gssproxy/25-nfs-server.conf << __EOF__ + [service/nfs-server] + mechs = krb5 + socket = /run/gssproxy.sock + cred_store = keytab:/etc/krb5.keytab + trusted = yes + kernel_nfsd = yes + euid = 0 + __EOF__ + # /usr/sbin/gssproxy --interactive --debug --debug-level=3 --socket=/run/gssproxy.sock + [2021/06/30 14:34:14]: Debug Enabled (level: 3) + [2021/06/30 14:34:14]: Keytab /etc/krb5.keytab has no content (-1765328203) + [2021/06/30 14:34:14]: Service: nfs-server, Enckey: [ephemeral], Enctype: 18 + [2021/06/30 14:34:14]: Client [2021/06/30 14:34:14]: (/usr/sbin/gssproxy) [2021/06/30 14:34:14]: connected (fd = 12)[2021/06/30 14:34:14]: (pid = 3428) (uid = 0) (gid = 0)Segmentation fau + lt (core dumped) + + [ Where problems could occur ] + + * The backported patch is simple and it is very unlikely that it will introduce a regression. + * As usual, it is always risky to rebuild a package that hasn't been touched for more than 1 year, albeit in this case the risk is very low because the package is not very complex. + + [ Original Description ] + + I have apache configured to perform a kerberized NFS4 mount using + rpc.gssd and gssproxy. [Bug 1930430] Re: Apache2 Certificate Chain Verification within Proxy not Working after dist-upgrade to focal
Thank you for your comment, Horst. Although we were to able to determine that this bug has been fixed upstream, we still need to come up with a simple(r) reproducer for it. We appreciate the fact that you provided steps to reproduce the bug in the description; this is really useful. We are now trying to devise a test case that doesn't involve obtaining a Let's Encrypt certificate, since that's not something realistic when you're running local tests in a container. Would you be able to help us with this? A step-by-step recipe which involves only self-signed certificates would be really appreciated. [Bug 1933450] Re: package mysql-server-5.7 (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: subprocess new pre-installation script returned error exit status 1
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug. In an effort to keep an up-to-date and valid list of bugs to work on, I have reviewed this report to verify it still requires effort and occurs on an Ubuntu release in standard support, and it does not. The Xenial release has entered Extended Security Maintenance (ESM) in April, 2021. Since this bug does not qualify as a security issue, we are unable to proceed with the support. It is unfortunate that we were unable to resolve this defect, however there appears to be no further action possible at this time. I am therefore moving the bug to 'Incomplete'. If you disagree or have new information, we would be grateful if you could please add a comment stating why and then change the status of the bug to 'New'. ** Changed in: mysql-5.7 (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1933450 Title: package mysql-server-5.7 (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: subprocess new pre-installation script returned error exit status 1 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mysql-5.7/+bug/1933450/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1934383] Re: package mysql-server-8.0 (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: installed mysql-server-8.0 package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 2
Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report. I could reproduce the bug here by following these steps (which are listed in your DpkgTerminalLog.txt file): $ lxc launch images:ubuntu/focal mysql-bug1934383 $ lxc shell mysql-bug1934383 # apt update # apt install mysql-server -y # apt remove --purge -y mysql-server # apt autoremove # apt purge -y mysql-server mysql-client mysql-common mysql-server-core-* mysql-client-core-* # rm -rf /etc/mysql/ # apt-get install mysql-server The interesting part from the log is this: update-alternatives: error: alternative path /etc/mysql/mysql.cnf doesn't exist This error indicates that there is no /etc/mysql/mysql.cnf file, which is strange and shouldn't happen after you install the MySQL package. So, there are two things at play here: the removal of a directory by hand, and not purging the right package. I am assuming that you removed the /etc/mysql/ directory by hand (like I did in the reproduction steps above). However, your apt commands did not purge the package that owned the directory, which is mysql- server-8.0. In fact, you can check this by: # dpkg -S /etc/mysql/ mysql-server-8.0: /etc/mysql As a general rule, we should never manually remove something from the system that was installed by a package. In this specific case, the proper way to get rid of the directory is to purge the package that owns it: # apt purge mysql-server-8.0 Since it seems likely to me that this is a local configuration problem, rather than a bug in Ubuntu, I am marking this bug as 'Incomplete'. However, if you believe that this is really a bug in Ubuntu, then we would be grateful if you would provide a more complete description of the problem with steps to reproduce, explain why you believe this is a bug in Ubuntu rather than a problem specific to your system, and then change the bug status back to "New".
