[Bug 986711] [NEW] Orca don't change its voice preferences when ubiquity does

2012-04-21 Thread Javier P.L.
Public bug reported:

Release of Ubuntu: Precise 12.04
Package Version: ubiquity 2.10.16, gnome-orca 3.4.0-0ubuntu2
Expected Results: Orca should change its voice preferences when the user in
ubiquity choices a specific language
Actual Results: Orca keeps reading using its english voice, even when the user
in ubiquity selected a different language

Executing http://testcases.qa.ubuntu.com/Install/DesktopAccessibility
test fail at step 5, when selecting «spanish», orca keeps reading using
its default voice (en), which makes really difficult to understand the
instructions, even when the installer text is in the appropriated
language.

[Bug 986716] [NEW] Orca doesn't read the ubiquity promotional slides

2012-04-21 Thread Javier P.L.
Public bug reported:

Release of Ubuntu: Ubuntu precise, 12.04
Package Version: ubiquity 2.10.16, gnome-orca 3.4.0-0ubuntu2
Expected Results: Orca should read the promotional slides while the
installation is on progress
Actual Results: Orca only keeps track of the percentage of the installation

Probably the ubiquity slides are images, which explains why orca doesn't
read them, it also doesn't explain in what step of the installation it's
working, for example when copying file, it shouts the percentage, and
when starts repartitioning, or installing others packages the percentage
reading is reset and gives no clue about why it happened or in what part
of the installation it is.

[Bug 986732] Re: After a installation using orca it doesn't auto start in the Ubuntu desktop

2012-04-22 Thread Javier P.L.
Hi Luke,

No, when configured it to auto login (from the installer) Orca doesn't start
automatically, it doesn't matter how many times I reboot it, however I made
another test and found that if configured to ask the password (default in the
installer) it then load Orca at the login prompt and then again in the desktop.

Thanks Luke!

I don't want to get you over loaded, however, there is another bug who
makes very difficult to install Ubuntu, I suspect that the code to fix
it must live probably at the same level of this one, #986711

[Bug 60448] Re: .xsession-errors file grows out of control & saturates disk space

2014-07-10 Thread Javier P.L.
I became affected by this bug after passing control to /etc/X11/Xsession
from ~/.xinitrc with Slim as login manager, since I barely log
out/reboot I started looking for a way to fix it and I found a quite
clean way to do it in this post:

http://www.mail-archive.com/debian-edu@lists.debian.org/msg14226.html

By creating a /etc/Xsession.d/05noerrfile file.

I think it should be considered to be the default behavior.

I'm running Ubuntu 12.04, slim, i3.

[Bug 1426828] [NEW] libruby1.9.1 shouldn't install ruby or an alternative should be create who doesn't install ruby

2015-03-01 Thread Javier P.L.
Public bug reported:

Release of Ubuntu: Vivid, Trusty
Package Version: ruby1.9.1
Expected Results: vim-nox or any other program who depends on libruby should
install the library but not the whole ruby programming language
Actual Results: vim-nox install ruby since it depends on libruby and libruby
depends on ruby

According to:

   ruby1.9.1 (1.9.3.484-2) unstable; urgency=medium

 * new strategy for Ruby version transitions:
   - ruby1.9.1 depends on ruby
   - libruby1.9.1 depends on ruby1.9.1
 * Drop alternatives entries.

libruby1.9.1 now depends on ruby1.9.1. This causes than installations of
packages such us vim-nox (who depends on libruby) pull the whole ruby
programming language.

In my opinion it shouldn't be this way (unless the transition fixes some
important bugs). It could be suggested but not forced. vim-nox also
depends on liblua and its installation doesn't pull the Lua programming
language into the system.

[Bug 1132529] Re: Can't start wicd daemon

2013-12-06 Thread Javier P.L.
I've taken the fix provide by tommy in bug #1193856 and prepared a merge
request for the ubuntu package and the upstream code:

https://code.launchpad.net/~chilicuil/ubuntu/trusty/wicd/fix-1132529/+merge/197998
https://code.launchpad.net/~chilicuil/wicd/wicd/+merge/198057

Hopefully one will get accepted, in the meantime I've prepared a
package:

https://launchpad.net/~chilicuil/+archive/proposed-fixes

In order to use it, you can follow the next instructions:

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:chilicuil/proposed-fixes
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install wicd-daemon
$ sudo rm -rf /etc/apt/sources.list.d/chilicuil-proposed-fixes*
$ sudo apt-get update

[Bug 568704] Re: debian-installer preseed "d-i mirror/http/proxy" sets env http_proxy

2013-12-07 Thread Javier P.L.
The issue still exist in Ubuntu 14.04 (currently in development), as a
side effect if a user decides to use:

mirror/http/proxy=http://domain.tld:3142 in the APPEND line in a pxe
environment, eg.

APPEND priority=critical locale=en_US interface=auto
mirror/http/proxy=http://domain.tld:3142  url=http://another-
domain.tld/ubuntu.preseed  initrd=ubuntu/1404/i386/initrd.gz

The installer will fail to request the remote preseed file (as it'll try
to get it through the mirror url). A work around if you still want to
define the mirror in the append line (and not in the remote preseed
file) is to configure it at preseed/run or at preseed/early_command.

http://serverfault.com/questions/528582/debian-ubuntu-set-preseed-
mirror-variable-via-early-run-command

Configuring the mirror at the APPEND line is useful when you want to use
a master preseed file from every machine but want to have control when
to use cache.

I don't think this is the same as bug #122637 since that one crashes
with a specific status and affected Ubuntu 7.10, the notification daemon
worked in Ubuntu Lucid, probably in maverick too, this error gives no
message, I think this is probably related to a gtk3 change or something.

[Bug 600575] Re: Error msg "Not Authorized"

2012-05-19 Thread Javier P.L.
I was able to reproduce it in ubuntu precise:

pcmanfm: 0.9.10-0ubuntu2
udisks: 1.0.4-5ubuntu2
policykit-1: 0.104-1

To test it:

1.- Install ubuntu minimal

2.- install pcmanfm and add gvfs support
  $ sudo apt-get install  pcmanfm gvfs gvfs-common gvfs-daemons
gvfs-fuse gvfs-libs libatasmart4 libdevmapper-event1.02.1 libgdu0
libgnome-keyring-common libgnome-keyring0 libgudev-1.0-0 liblvm2app2.2
libsgutils2-2 udisks

3.- run pcmanfm and you'll notice udisks needs and doesn't have as a
dependency policykit-1

  $ sudo apt-get install policykit-1

4.- run again pcmanfm (once policykit-1 is installed) and try to mount
an usb, you'll face the "Not authorized" dialog

5- create /etc/polkit-1/localauthority/50-local.d/55-storage.pkla with
the following content:

[Storage Permissions]
Identity=unix-group:plugdev
Action=org.freedesktop.udisks.filesystem-mount;org.freedesktop.udisks.drive-eject;org.freedesktop.udisks.drive-detach;org.freedesktop.udisks.luks-unlock;org.freedesktop.udisks.inhibit-polling;org.freedesktop.udisks.drive-set-spindown
ResultAny=yes
ResultActive=yes
ResultInactive=no

6- add yourself to the plugdev group
   $ usermod -a -G plugdev  your-username

7- pcmanfm will automount usb disks

Even when exist a workaround, pcmanfm will termine randomly while
umounting those disks

[Bug 994949] Re: When nautilus opens it is not the active window

2012-05-05 Thread Javier P.L.
Thanks for the response (and the video!) I can confirm it, however I
believe that the problem must be in the nautilus lack of focus instead
of libreoffice, or chrome, I was able to see the same performance with
firefox, however coudn't reproduce it with the «software center» .
Summarizing I'd say that the steps to reproduce it would be:

1.- Open LibreOffice/Firefox in a precise installation
2.- Open Nautilus
3.- See how nautilus doesn't take the focus

Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make

not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it. We understand the
difficulties you are facing, but it would make more sense to raise
problems you are having in the support tracker at

are uncertain if they are bugs.

I'd suggest you to look at http://askubuntu.com/questions/122209/how-

you to achieve what you're trying to do.

[Bug 1353792] [NEW] Detect renamed files and handle by renaming instead of delete/re-send

2014-08-06 Thread Javier P.L.
Public bug reported:

There has been a report in rsync[0] about this issue since 2005, some
patches has been developed detect-renamed[1] and detect-renamed-lax[2]
to target the issue, I think it would be great if Ubuntu could patch
itself rsync to provide such feature.

I've updated those[3] patches[4] to apply to the latest rsync package
(3.1.1) and they're working great in my own setup, I also put them in a
ppa[5] for further testing. The patches aren't intrusive, they provide
some extra flags (--detect-renamed, --detec-moved and --detect-renamed-
lax) so I think it shouldn't be disastrous for those who won't use the
extra features.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make

* If so, what specific steps should we take to recreate this bug?
* did it work previously on Ubuntu and only occurred after a recent update? If

* did you modified the default configuration?, does the error still occurs
after getting back the default configuration?

[Bug 1275392] Re: grub dummy failed

2014-02-08 Thread Javier P.L.
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

According to https://launchpadlibrarian.net/164591407/UbiquitySyslog.txt
you've an inconsistent ntfs partition, that's probably the reason why
the installation didn''t continued and the whole process failed.

Run chkdsk /f on Windows then reboot it twice and retry the installer,
I'll mark in the meantime the bug as invalid.

Thanks!

It also fails if you try to execute gnome-control-center on a headless

something, probably will take them a reasonable effort (or hack) to make

[Bug 1171316] Re: TypeError: add_info() takes 1 positional argument but 2 were given

2014-02-09 Thread Javier P.L.
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and trying to help make
Ubuntu better. However, it seems that you are not using a software
package provided by the official Ubuntu repositories. Because of this
the Ubuntu project can not support or fix your particular bug. Please
report this bug to the provider of the software package.

Even though it may seems as an apport bug, the faulty code is located at
/usr/share/apport/package-hooks/source_gnome-shell.py which should be
reported against the gnome-shell-common package, however since the
system reporting the error is using a gnome ppa, even that package may
be provided by the ppa instead of the official repositories.

If you are interested in learning more about software repositories,
Ubuntu and apport hooks the following pages should be informative:

1. http://www.ubuntu.com/community/ubuntustory/components - information about
Ubuntu repositories
2. https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Repositories - information regarding
managing repositories.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make

instructions at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash and upload
the backtrace (as an attachment) to the bug report.

This will greatly help a developer to track down your problem.

The attached backtrace even when could refer to the same problem has no
symbols and therefore cannot be used for a developer to discover what
failed and how to create a fix.

[Bug 1089724] [NEW] rcconf fail to run with whiptail installed, only in Ubuntu

2012-12-12 Thread Javier P.L.
Public bug reported:

Release of Ubuntu: Raring 13.04
Package Version: 2.5ubuntu1
Expected Results: rcconf should run in Ubuntu by default because whiptail is
installed
Actual Results: rcconf fail to run, people is forced to install dialog to make
it run

whiptail changed its path since ubuntu precise:

newt (0.52.11-2ubuntu10) precise; urgency=low

  * Move libnewt to /lib and whiptail to /bin so they can be used by
friendly-recovery on systems that have a separate /usr.

rcconf have a hardcoded path to whiptail who points out to
/usr/bin/whiptail , in Ubuntu it's in /bin/whiptail, therefore a rcconf
change needs to be done in order to find whiptail and avoid installing
dialog, which is not necessary since rcconf works fine with the ubuntu

[Bug 1089760] [NEW] whiptail located in /bin breaks apps who look for it at /usr/bin

2012-12-12 Thread Javier P.L.
Public bug reported:

Release of Ubuntu: Raring 13.04
Package Version: 0.52.14-11ubuntu4
Expected Results: Applications who look for whiptail at /usr/bin should run
successfully
Actual Results: Applications who look for whiptail at /usr/bin fail

Testcase:

$ sudo apt-get install whiptail
$ whereis whiptail
/bin/whiptail
$ sudo apt-get install rcconf
$ sudo rcconf
"rcconf needs dialog or whiptail"

I looked at the newt bugs and saw that it was introduced in precise:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/newt/+bug/234409

I'd suggest to make a soft link to /usr/bin in order to not break apps
who look for it at /usr/bin (which may be some from debian)

$ sudo ln -s /bin/whiptail /usr/bin/whiptail

[Bug 1010534] Re: whiptail manpage says exit code -1 not 255

2012-12-16 Thread Javier P.L.
I can confirm this in upstream, debian and ubuntu versions, I've added a
comment to a debian related report which list other
inaccuracies in the man page, I'd suggest waiting for the changes coming from
Debian (and from them to go to upstream), since it's not a critical problem.

I've tried recreating this bug with Ubuntu Precise 12.04 and was unable

[Bug 1113648] [NEW] Add a context menu entry to create a new blank file

2013-02-02 Thread Javier P.L.
Public bug reported:

Release of Ubuntu: Raring, 13.04
Package Version: 3.6.3-0ubuntu5
Expected Results: Be able to create an empty file from the context menu
Actual Results: There's not possible till I create manually an empty file in
$HOME/Templates

There is no easy way to create 'new blank' files in Files, you can do it
by creating a file in $HOME/Templates/new or by installing an extension:

http://www.webupd8.org/2012/11/add-new-empty-file-entry-to-
nautilus-36.html

I don't think normal people will be interested in doing any of those
procedures, exist a Gnome bug about it:

https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=687139

But it's closed, so I'd like to see this fixed in Ubuntu at least, what
about providing some default files so people using Ubuntu can create
empty files since the first boot?

[Bug 1115570] [NEW] The authorization windows goes blank if idle for a short amount of time

2013-02-04 Thread Javier P.L.
Public bug reported:

Release of Ubuntu: Ubuntu Raring - 13.04
Package Version: 3.6.3-0ubuntu2

The authorization windows goes blank if idle for a short amount of time,
the steps to reproduce it are as follow:

1.- Open Empathy
A new 'Online Account's window is displayed
2.- Select Google in the right-hand pane from the 'Online Accounts' window
The Google sign-in box appears
3.- Idle for 1-3 min
The application goes blank

What I'd expect is that the google sign-in box still stay there if I
take some minutes to log-in

[Bug 1119832] Re: After creating a blank txt file in ~/Templates there are 2 "Empty Document" options in context menu

2013-02-09 Thread Javier P.L.
Here is the diff who fix it, I wonder if we should cherry pick or update
to nautilus 3.6.6 >=, it also seems debian and ubuntu nautilus packages
are out of sync

http://git.gnome.org/browse/nautilus/commit/?id=9323dde5c0f06b048b1daaf2cc683991d6b7d076

rmadison output:

=> Ubuntu  nautilus | 1:3.6.3-0ubuntu5
=> Debian   nautilus | 3.6.1-2  | experimental

[Bug 1117462] Re: package language-pack-es-base (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: cannot copy extracted data for './usr/share/locale-langpack/es/LC_MESSAGES/mailman.mo' to '/usr/share/locale-

2013-02-09 Thread Javier P.L.
Hi Ricardo,

Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this seems
like a hardware error, probably in your hard disk. I would suggest you
to try the following commands in order to retry to install the package
(which had a .deb file corrupted).

$ sudo apt-get clean
$ sudo apt-get install language-pack-es-base

I'll close it has fast as you can confirm that the two previous commands
fixed your issue, have a nice day

Hola Ricardo,

$ sudo apt-get clean
$ sudo apt-get install language-pack-es-base

Cerrare el reporte una vez que confirme que los comandos anteriores han
solucionado el problema, buen día.

[Bug 1088131] Re: ls --color doesn't recognize an arc archive as an archive

2013-02-12 Thread Javier P.L.
** Description changed:

  When listing the content of a directory with ls --color an arc archive
  isn't recognized as an such and isn't displayed with the appropriate
  colour. The following terminal output should give an idea:

  ubuntu@ubuntu:~/test$ ls
  sources.list
- ubuntu@ubuntu:~/test$ tar cfZ sources.taz sources.list
- ubuntu@ubuntu:~/test$ arc a sources.arc sources.list
+ ubuntu@ubuntu:~/test$ tar cfz sources.taz sources.list
+ ubuntu@ubuntu:~/test$ arc a sources.arc sources.list
  Creating new archive: sources.arc
  Adding file: sources.list analyzing, crunched, done. (29%)
  ubuntu@ubuntu:~/test$ ls
  sources.arc  sources.list  sources.taz

  Note that sources.taz would be correctly displayed in red, but not
  sources .arc which nevertheless is an archive and should also be
  displayed with the same colour. So the $LS_COLORS environment variable
  needs to be adjusted accordingly by default (the correct value to add
  would probably be "01;31", and arc is absent from the output of
  dircolors -p).

[Bug 70610] Re: Unable to uncompress .Z files without a "compress" binary

2013-02-12 Thread Javier P.L.
Thanks for letting us know the issue is resolved. This issue was fixed
as pointed out in tar 1.25:

http://savannah.gnu.org/forum/forum.php?forum_id=6595

All ubuntu versions from Ubuntu Oneiric, use tar 1.26 so I'm marking
this as fixed.
