[Bug 245936] Re: battery monitor on hardy incorrectly indicates disconnection from AC

2008-07-05 Thread Greg Grossmeier
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description
didn't include enough information.

Please include the information as separate attachments:
 * Output of uname -a
* uname -a > uname.txt
 * Output of sudo lspci -vvnn
* sudo lspci -vvnn > lspci.txt
 * Output of sudo dmidecode
* sudo dmidecode > dmidecode.txt
 * Try to suspend/hibernate and then restart the system and attach
/var/log/kern.log.0
 * Tarball of /proc/acpi directory. You can't just tar all files because their
content sometimes changes etc.
* cp -r /proc/acpi /tmp
* tar -cvjf ~/acpi.tar.bz /tmp/acpi
* attach acpi.tar.bz from your home directory

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make

is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper
developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at

[Bug 245952] [NEW] user shell selection not populated from /etc/shells

2008-07-05 Thread Greg Grossmeier
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-system-tools

(Originally a second bug reported in bug 245928, opened as a separate
issue)

8.04.1

The drop down list to select the user's shell in the Users and Groups
applet is not populated with the choices from /etc/shells. The
administrator must manually type in which shell they want for the user,
knowing in advance their choices.

The drop down list should be populated from /etc/shells by default.

[Bug 245928] Re: unable to set multiple users to same /home

2008-07-05 Thread Greg Grossmeier
This bug originally was about 2 separate issues with the Users and
Groups applet. The second issue is now reported as a separate bug, bug
245952. You can track the status of that bug at
https://launchpad.net/bugs/245952 .

Thanks!

** Summary changed:

- users and groups applet does not work as expected
+ unable to set multiple users to same /home

** Description changed:

  I am trying to add ftp users to my system with the 'users and groups'
  applet and it is not working correctly. When I try to add unpriveleged
  users, i want all of them to have the same home dir '/home/fileserver'.
  The applet refuses to let me do this. It says home dir already exists.
- Also, when i try to select a shell of '/bin/false' the pulldown is
- empty. I checked the /etc/shells and /bin/false is there. Why is the
- list not populated with the data from /etc/shells?
-
- Why is the users and groups applet so broken?
-
- I guess I will have to use command line until this is fixed.

[Bug 252250] Re: PDF is missing the letter "A" throughout the document. OK when viewed in Windows.

2008-07-28 Thread Greg Grossmeier
Yes, not having the fonts embedded in the pdf can cause this type of
issue. So, in this case the font might be installed on Windows but not
Ubuntu. This kind of situation is most times caused by the fact that
Ubuntu (or anyone else) can not distribute the font due to
licensing/copyright/whatever restrictions.

Please install the latest available Adobe Acrobat reader for linux and
report back if the problem is duplicated there or not.

Thanks!

[Bug 245737] Re: System>Administration>Login window

2008-07-06 Thread Greg Grossmeier
martosurf,

Are you installing while keeping your old /home directory? That could
be causing problems. And you mentioned the install in a VM "runs
smooth" which I assume means "doesn't have the same problem as what this
bug report is about". Is this correct?

[Bug 243776] Re: No Desktop file in japa

2008-07-06 Thread Greg Grossmeier
One issue: when starting japa you can call it with various commands not
available in its GUI, from japa -h:

-h Display this text
-J Use JACK
-A Use ALSA, with options:
  -d Alsa device [hw:0.0]
  -r   Sample frequency [48000]
  -p Period size [1024]
  -n Number of fragments [2]

Either -J or -A must be given.

So, we could assume that the user has ALSA installed and use the -A
option, but any of -d, -r, -p, -n must be set from the command line as
there is no option for them in the GUI.

I'm not sure if this is suggested behavior (having a .desktop file for
such a program).

Hosein,

If I understood you correctly: You experience the problem in Windows

a problematic pdf document.

If you experience this bug ONLY in evince (not Adobe) then please reopen

[Bug 163316] Re: Segmentation fault

2008-07-24 Thread Greg Grossmeier
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a ".crash" file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.
If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.
