[Bug 164589] Re: Occasional screen-wide "blink" when using opengl apps (compiz also) and Nvidia cards

2008-07-02 Thread EzNet
@scananza

Ditto here... I too have tried every remedy claimed to work without any
real success. No one really seems to have a legit answer on the
question - there are a lot who claim to, but none of what 'works' for
them, works for me. I have tried the scripts, I have tried the modprobe
method that you mentioned and have tried the xorg options to no avail.
I have a thread posted at nVidia, but no no one seem willing or capable
of answering it. I have also emailed nVidia, but that seems to be going
no where as I have heard nothing back for two weeks. Really kinda lame
- I mean, how hard is it to allow OWNERS to disable a added function of
THEIR hardware? Doesn't seem like too much to ask.

[Bug 49127] Re: Long file names are truncated without warning

2009-06-12 Thread EzNet
I am experiencing the same issue in Jaunty. I burnt a CD for a friend
who uses Windows and the file names were truncated to ~4-5 chars when
viewing in Windows - I have not been able to drop it back in a *nix box
to see if its the same here.

I was unaware of the file name changes until my friend asked me how to
tell what the file names really were; confused, I asked to see. Sure
enough, the file names had been shortened to about the first word of the
file name. I can understand truncating where needed, even without a
'real warning', but it seems that truncating to a set max length would
be more beneficial - at least more identifying information is available
to decipher the previous file name... In any case - I love using Brasero
and will keep on using... Luckily I know now :)

Thanks team!

[Bug 164589] Re: Occasional screen-wide "blink" when using opengl apps (compiz also) and Nvidia cards

2008-07-06 Thread EzNet
Thanks for the tips Kraptor,
I edited my files as you suggested and now PerfLevelSrc seems to be working -
nvidia-settings shows powermizer performance level to be at '2'. So all is
well on that front. In your initial post, you said I have to specify my driver
as nvidia-new - when I do this, Ubuntu boots into the 'failsafe' low res mode
complaining that it cannot identify my video card properly and the only way I
can get back into X is setting driver as 'nvidia' - am I missing something or
misinterpreting your instructions.

In any case, things seem to working as is for now. I really do
appreciate you taking the time to help me - this has been a problem that
has plagued me for a long time!

You rock the mic!

[Bug 278597] [NEW] High pitch noise under kernel 2.6.27-4-generic

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: yelp

This is a continuation of bug #93067
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/93067). I have
continued to experience the high pitch electronic noise under Feisty,
Hardy and now Intrepid. Under Hardy, the noise was only present to a
small degree. Last night I upgraded to 8.10 Beta and the noise has
seemingly become louder.

The "# echo 2 > /sys/module/processor/parameters/max_cstate" work around
used to work for me under Feisty, but has not worked for some time since
this parameter was removed from recent kernel revisions(?). Are there
any new work arounds for this issue. Is there additional information
which I may provide to help in this situation.

BTW - I am running a HP dv6000t with nVidia Go 7400 using version 177

When switching from compiz to to metacity, the screensaver works

- it seems to shoot to 50% processor consumption every few minutes,
where it will stay for about 30 seconds, before returning to 2-3%...

of these processes increase in processor consumption around the time the

[Bug 278869] [NEW] Screen saver fails to load under Compiz after upgrade to 8.10

2008-10-05 Thread EzNet
Public bug reported:

After upgrade to 8.10 from 8.04 (update-manager -d), screensaver fails
to load if Compiz is running. While in Compiz, Xorg shoots up to 50%
CPU usage for about 30 secs every few minutes, before returning to its
normal 2-3% consumption. When I load Metacity instead of Compiz, the
issues disappear - i.e. Xorg consumption stays low and continuous and
gnome-screensaver loads as it should.

[Bug 196470] Re: [hardy] flash plugin can't play videos at all then other program is using audio device

2008-06-08 Thread EzNet
Although there seem to be many work-arounds for specific program combinations,
none really seem to address or resolve the issue completely for all
applications. Although I was able to gain additional stability through some of
the aforementioned methods, there are still programs that wreak havoc when
trying to use them simultaneously along side of flash - for me, notably
Last.Fm's player.
No matter what I do, when I load firefox (and flash) first, Last.FM reports the
'ALSA error'. When I load Last.FM player first and then attempt to play a
flash video, I get 2 seconds and then the video playback hangs... Has anyone
found a 'real fix'?

[Bug 215826] Re: Update issue 'update-manager

2008-04-11 Thread EzNet
I also had to remove the AWN from the sources. Commented it out of
/etc/apt/sources.list, but the realized that I could just do it from
System->Aministraction->Software Sources->Third-Party Software->un-
select 'http://ppa.launchpad.net/awn-testing/ubuntu hardy main' . Now
Synatpic is working again.

I wonder what is causing this. I tried deleting the corresponding files
in /var/lib/apt/list, but every time I would run 'apt-get update' it
would throw the same error. I even copied the contents of the same file
at 'http://ppa.launchpad.net/awn-testing/ubuntu/dists/gutsy/main/binary-
amd64/' to the local file to no avail. So far seems like disabling is
the only way.

[Bug 175744] Hardy freezes when using compiz

2007-12-11 Thread EzNet
Public bug reported:

I am running alpha 1 of Hardy on a DV6000t (HP, 2 ghz Core2Duo, nVidia GO
7400). Since upgrading to Hardy I have been experiencing problems with the
computer 'locking up' or 'freezing' when using the desktop. I believe the
problem to relate somehow to Compiz as it does not occur when using Metacity.
I have launched compiz from a terminal to attempt to discover any errors that
are thrown to no avail. Compiz launches from the gnome console with no
problems, and when the system does lock up no errors are displayed. When the
lock-up occurs I am forced to hard re-boot (something I hate to do) as I cannot
drop to tty1, kill X or soft reboot. The processor fan ramps up when the system
freezes, which leads me to believe that there is something 'gobbling' up the
processor.
I have posted this in a discussion on ubuntuforums and have had others respond
with the same issues. If there is any further information that I can provide,
please let me know.

Thanks,
Matt

[Bug 175744] Re: Hardy freezes when using compiz

2007-12-11 Thread EzNet
Thanks Chris,
I have checked my kern.log as you instructed and I have the following line in
there twice for yesterday, though it is not present for todays logs and it has
locked up today:

"NVRM: Xid (0001:00): 13, 01013900 0039 0328
0080"

I also noticed that the architecture at bug #145112 is AMD and I am running an
Intel Core2Duo - I do not know how significant this difference is, but there
you have it :)
I have attempted to kill X with the alt+sysreq+k without success.
ctrl+alt+backspace also does nothing as is the case with ctrl+alt+del. Also,
when the freeze occurs I cannot do anything... I have discussed the issue with
others who can drop to tty, but I cannot... I have even tried just sitting here
pressing the key combinations multiple times over a 5 minute span with no
lock just an ever faster fan.

Thanks again, despite any issues, I LOVE UBUNTU - even if I cannot use
compiz

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 136529 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/136529

No, this is not a duplicate of 135529 - none of what I reported is even
remotely close to the symptoms in that bug report. Not only that, but
the affected versions and environmental conditions contributing to this
bug couldn't be further apart than they are between these two bugs, but
thanks for the attentiveness. Fortunately with the most recent kernel
update and other updates the problem seems to have vanished.

[Bug 177578] Re: Hardy Fails to Load X After Updates

2007-12-22 Thread EzNet
No prob. Since the round of upgrades yesterday and this morning there have
been no problems... As far as the login screen, nope. X fails to load
completely When X tries to start, it would flash a couple of times and
then take me to the blue/gray screen indicating that X failed to load and would
ask if I wanted to see the error log to troubleshoot the problem.
Fortunately, it now seems to be a non issue as the upgrades have eliminated the
problem all together. So far, everything is running smooth again for now :)
Thanks for the help! I have attached my Xorg.0.log, though I am sure it will
not help in this instance as I have had successful X boots since the problem...
I will also attach *.9.* after this message with the errors from day before
yesterday

[Bug 178397] shares-admin not storing shared folder information

2007-12-23 Thread EzNet
Public bug reported:

I am running hardy heron with all updates as of today. When I attempt
to add a "shared folder" the information entered is not saved.

System->Administration->Shared Folders->Unlock->Add
After adding desired folders, click 'quit'

I cannot access any folders that I add via shares-admin. When I reopen
shares-admin, none of he previously entered shares are stored. If I
open smb.conf, none of the information added via shares-admin is
present.

Puzzling enough, I do not know the real function of 'unlock'. When I
press 'unlock' I am not prompted for any information (username,
password, etc).

Any Ideas. Need any other info?

[Bug 163042] Re: nmbd crashes after routine Dapper upgrade

2007-11-16 Thread EzNet
@ NoOp
I am on 7.10 currently and the block is in effect for
http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/s/samba/* now - Hopefully some of
those family members were not immediately able to update (powered off, for
instance). :)

I don't know what time the block went into effect for 7.10, but it is
currently 'forbidding' the update...

[Bug 175744] Re: Hardy freezes when using compiz

2007-12-15 Thread EzNet
145I am still having occasional hangs, but they have definitely reduced
in frequency since the most recent rounds of updates... I don't quite
know the process that lead me to this point or what upgrades were
responsible for it... Yesterday, after updating, every time I logged on
my CPU would shoot to 100% - compiz crunching away... I would have to
kill it and use metacity. When I would start it up in a console it
would jack up to 100% again and keep throwing an error about 'core'
plugin already being loaded... I loaded the gnome-compiz-preferences
and enabled desktop effects in there and now things SEEM to be
working... odd thing is, every time I load gnome-compiz-preferences it
gives me an error about not being able to load the settings - type
mismatch error... I need to find the location of the config file for
that frontend as I am sure it is damaged (or not, who knows I have
exams I have to take before I get to that :) )... Also, there doesn't
seem to be any recent activity in Bug #145112...

[Bug 177578] Hardy Fails to Load X After Updates

2007-12-19 Thread EzNet
Public bug reported:

After updating today X fails to load. When rebooting, X attempts to start and
then fails displaying an error saying that the X server cannot be found and
something pertaining to get-edid. I installed read-edid which changed the
error message but did not fix the problem.
The problem seems to be related to the updates nVidia and kernel 2.6.24.2.
When I boot with nVidia driver and 2.6.22.14, the problem does not occur.
Also, I can boot with 2.6.22.14 if I use the 'nv' driver.
I would display the exact error, but I cannot find the error message
anywhere... If anyone knows where the X error message goes, let me know (The
error message that displays when the X server fails to load - ie blue screen
with gray text telling about X failing to load)...

[Bug 185652] Re: npviewer.bin crashed with SIGSEGV in g_type_check_instance_cast()

2008-04-06 Thread EzNet
Confirmed here. Happens on my desktop (Quad - Q6600) and notebook
(Core2). Since most recent rounds of updates (Friday - Sun) the
crashing seems more frequent and pronounced. I can close firefox and
restart, but will often get a gray box after only one or two flash file
loads - sometimes I will get the npviewer.bin crash notification,
sometimes I will not.

[Bug 177856] Re: Gutsy 64: nspluginwrapper errors with flashplugin-nonfree 9.0.115

2008-04-07 Thread EzNet
Same problem for me.

-Linux eznet-mobile 2.6.24-15-generic #1 SMP Fri Apr 4 03:10:59 UTC 2008 x86_64

-File name: npwrapper.libflashplayer.so

-Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9b5) Gecko/2008040514

Normally I can load one flash file, but it I attempt to view another
afterwards (or an flash advertisement loads) then the area will be
replaced with a gray box instead of the flash. Right clicking on the
gray area produces NO drop down menu.

[Bug 177856] Re: Gutsy 64: nspluginwrapper errors with flashplugin-nonfree 9.0.115

2008-04-07 Thread EzNet
update:
I have attempted to install the above patch - no success. I still get the
grayed box after opening multiple flash files.
I have compiled nspluginwrapper from source, with patch - no success.
I have installed the above 'fixed' .deb - no success. Still gray.
I have performed variants of the aforementioned : ex. compiled ns and installed
flash from repos - compiled and installed flash from adobe - etc. any variant
of suggestions I can think of and still no go. I can play a flash file or two,
but inevitable will get the gray box...

Any ideas? Crazy thing was, I was not havint this problem at all until
Friday-ish. Before then I was able to view flash files on my 64bit
hardy without issues.

[Bug 509150] Re: I got "aw, snap" message

2010-01-19 Thread EzNet
I am getting the "Aw, Snap!" message regularly now. I pulled the most
recent updates today and ever since, about 1 in 8 pages starts to
display and then displays the Aw, Snap error... Firefox renders these
pages fine.

I am on Karmic running Chromium (4.0.302.0 (36505)) via the Daily PPA...
I understand that this is experimental, but I was searching for a fix
for this issue, stumbled here and decided to add my 'me-too'.

Let me know if you need anything from me.

Same thing here. Wish I cold do more than toss my name in the hat.

Only potentially value adding content I can think of is:
- Not GDK bug
- Happens on both /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun/jre/bin/java and
/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun/jre/bin/java
- Sudo doesn't help me. Empty.

Update:

Buttons weren't working correctly. "Install New Software" list was
empty.

Buttons were the GDK bug. Empty software list was something with either
my .eclipse folder or my WORKSPACE/.metadata - I removed both and am now
able to install what want without issues.
