[Bug 407621] Re: (design decision) Icons missing from context menu , dialogue buttons , firefox bookmark favicons, system menu
As much as I do agree that going back on the old way of including icons on every menu item possible is a good (both productively and aesthetically) change, I do feel that the lack of icons on actions on the main panel menu items is a step backwards in aesthetics (see screenshot-1), and feels to a user as if the icon should be there, because the other items all have icons, and the option to change their icon is in the menu editor. I therefore propose that 'essential' icons, present across almost all programs should have icons, but 'non- essential' icons should no. I believe that these 'essential' icons should be limited to the following: File: New, Open, Save, Save As, Print, Print Preview, and the recent files list; Edit: Undo, Redo, Copy and Paste; View: None; Search: Find...; and Help: Contents and About (the icon for which I think should be changed to the actions/gtk-info icon). Of course this is simply my opinion as a Ubuntu user, and should of course be put to community review, but could you please create a system to put this to review. Alternatively this feature could be implemented with a option in the menu editor (right click on panel menu -> Edit Menus) with "Enable icons for all menu items", and a checkbox in System -> Preferences -> Appearance -> Interface with the option to "Show icons on common menu items" Thank you. ** Attachment added: "Screenshot-1.png" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/36162612/Screenshot-1.png -- (design decision) Icons missing from context menu , dialogue buttons , firefox bookmark favicons, system menu https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/407621 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1572801] Re: Ubuntu 16.04 Unity desktop uses much more ram than Ubuntu 15.10
I see a lot of chatter that is likely confusion related to the leak manifestations, and the false belief that eliminating X or Y memory consumer "fixed" the problem. The proper test is probably to leave a computer running, idle for 24-48 hours; if you begin swapping and running out of RAM while taking no action, you are still afflicted. Anyone who has not done that will not know if the issue is fixed. As this leads to swap thrashing for anyone who leaves their computer running (which is many people), this software bug is leading to real- dollar hardware damage (as write spam kills flash memory drives). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1572801 Title: Ubuntu 16.04 Unity desktop uses much more ram than Ubuntu 15.10 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1572801/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 50093] Re: Some sysctl's are ignored on boot
All documentation on the net referring to changing certain settings in /etc/sysctl.conf such as net.ipv4.netfilter.ip_conntrack_max is wrong for Ubuntu. In addition, workarounds suggesting that ordering of module load vs. sysctl.conf execution can be helped by i.e. putting ip_conntrack into /etc/modules also do not work. I'm sure on some level this is Low priority - aka bury for 5 years and never look at it again - and I can appreciate that this is not a simple problem to properly solve. But left as is, this is just another mine laid in the field for sysadmins foolish enough to use Ubuntu Server. I respectfully suggest that it might be useful to make multiple attempts to run sysctl -p at various milestones during the boot process. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/50093 Title: Some sysctl's are ignored on boot To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/procps/+bug/50093/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 809661] [NEW] kernel bug in fs/dcache.c
Public bug reported: I think this was stimulated by autofs trying to unmount an nfs volume. It's happened three times so far since I put 11.04 on my old Latitude D400 laptop (Intel 855GM video). [Bug 727143] Re: unity-window-decorator crashes with SIGSEGV when closing Java windows
I would never tell anyone they "must" fix a bug - but I would strongly suggest that Ubuntu prominently indicate on the Natty download pages that it currently doesn't work very well with Java. [Bug 775430] Re: kernel bug: segfault in unity-window-decorator
Oddly enough, I seem to be able to get this to happen 100% consistently when clicking the final Commit button, when committing project changes via subversion in the Java-based IntelliJ Idea IDE. Strange, I know - but since I finally figured it out, I've done it over and over again as an experiment, and it is 100% reliable. I work in that IDE all day and make many thousands of UI interactions with it, including dozens or hundreds of button presses. It always worked flawlessly in Ubuntu before now, and still does, with exactly this one exception. That one, specific button in the entire IDE crashes the unity window decorator every time. I'm talking i.e.: unity-window-de[2275]: segfault at 318 ip 00415d6f sp 7fffbcd51af0 error 6 in unity-window-decorator[40+1b000] Pressing it via both keyboard shortcut and mouse click trigger it. I should add, the functioning of the IDE itself is never affected. The specific - and observable and debuggable - nature of this may provide a clue as to what is making unity crash. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/775430 Title: kernel bug: segfault in unity-window-decorator -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
