Hi, for speed reasons, metadata is not fully parsed and not available to the search for local photos. The only searchable tags are the one added (manually/automatically) in Shotwell. On the bright side, this might be fixed for 14.04. Jonathon, 1) the lens looks if a Nautilus thumbnail exists before trying to generate one. 2) for the lens to trigger the thumbnailing process, the file needs to be 1) a video 2) in the Videos folder. Jaynis, please retry the command, without using sudo.
$ /usr/lib/unity-scope-video-remote/unity-scope-video-remote
If it answers:
"Failed to own name net.launchpad.scope.RemoteVideos. Bailing out."
It will mean the scope is already running.
Then, visit the adress:
http://videosearch.ubuntu.com/v0/search?test
If you see a long line of results beginning with [{"url":
"http://videosearch.ubuntu.com/v0
It will mean you can connect to the server.
If any of these tests fail, I would recommend purging and re-installing both
packages with:
$ sudo apt-get purge unity-lens-video unity-scope-video-remote
$ sudo apt-get install unity-lens-video unity-scope-video-remote
Then, log out and log in.
By any chance, do any of you have tested Ubuntu TV a few months ago? It
could be an explanation: the old Ubuntu TV files conflict with the video
lens.

Note that it's already triggered with "calc:" , "result:" , "calculator:" and "calculate:". $ grep Keywords /usr/share/unity/scopes/info/calculator.scope Keywords=calculator;result;calculate;calc; All queries starting with ":" will directly query the scope you want. In my opinion, this bug is somewhat invalid, since there already is a "calculation detector" in the Dash querying process, but other results tend to hide its effect (you often need to scroll to see the calculator result) and you also need to have online search enabled even if the calculator scope is locally installed. For reference, here is some background on the calculator scope / dash relationship and how it works right now. Let's assume a fresh Ubuntu > 14.04 install. The "card view" used in the Online section may look inconsistent with the rest of the Dash, but it's only because it's the first time it's used in a lens installed by default. The "card view" design allows a new visible layer of information in a category : the source of the video, in this case. The regular "icon view" only fits for easily identifiable files or files coming from a single data source, that's why it's not used here. That's a pretty cool scope, but I'm not sure that categories would be the best way to solve this. Categories are more about the status of data than its nature. Nevertheless, as we don't have any default scope relying on this kind of filters, categories would have the benefits of being hidden when the scope is absent. It was happening randomly in two different ways : 1) [low frequency] on restarting unity manually : all http icons gone for good. 2) [high frequency] on session start : 2 or 3 first http icons of a lens missing the first time it's opened, until results are reloaded. Both don't seem to happen on trunk anymore, but their randomness makes it hard to confirm. @Nizar, installing more lenses shouldn't slow down the opening of the Dash. I currently have ~20 installed on both a "slow" and a "fast" computer and it doesn't impact the fluidity of the Dash (which is excellent on one and terrible on the other). The worst case scenario for these lenses is that they can eat more ram than they should. [Bug 830332] [NEW] system-devices-panel has an inconsistent shadow color
Public bug reported: ubuntu-mono-dark/status/22/system-devices-panel.svg has a lighter shadow than the other panel icons, giving it a different embossement on the dark panel. It uses #dfdbd2 at 30% opacity. Other icons use #00 at 30% opacity.
