[Bug 60709] wallet appears to have focus but does not
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: kwalletmanager The application 'Kopete' requested access to the kwallet, and a dialogue appeared requesting password. As passwords tend to be, it is natural for me to type so I typed it in and pressed enter without paying much attention. At this point, there was a flashing caret in the password box. It transpired that the password box had not got focus, even though it appeared to have: in fact, it was Konversation, which was previously focused, that still had it, causing me to send my password through IRC. This could be quite a security risk, since Konversation could have been anything and my password could have been somewhat more important than that. ** Affects: kdeutils (Ubuntu) Importance: Untriaged Status: Unconfirmed -- wallet appears to have focus but does not https://launchpad.net/bugs/60709 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 116333] JAVA mouse pointer lags, slower than XP Pro
Public bug reported: I have a computer which I physically replace hard drives. One is for XP Pro and one for Ubuntu. I bring up the same site on both systems. The site has JAVA charting apps. When moving the mouse pinter over the JAVA app under Ubuntu 7.04 (fully updated), the mouse pointer lags. Processor use is very high. Martin, Thanks for writing back, it's very much appreciated. The URL is https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/6130 Many Login Window Preferences were changed. I'm not sure exactly what parameters were set but I cahnged the Image Logo to ghome-suse.png, I also set the welcome message and the style was "plain with face browser". I allowed users to change fonts and colors and allowed the background image to be shown to remote users. One thing is for sure, the problem occured after the Login Windows Preferences were altered. I respectfully differ on the security issue. If anyone can come in to my office, turn on my PC and start using my computer without a password, that's a security issue. I have a few decades of computer networking under my belt. It may not be a vulnerability per say, however, this instability results in network and application access. I'm all for the project. [Bug 41335] Re: DVD playing is not working correctly with totem-gstreamer
This is my second posting. After adding and removing Gstremer and Xine packages I finally managed to get audio from Totem using Gstreamer but still no video. I been at it for days still no success. Is there a Linux Codec(plug-in) for purchase ? The video that came with the O.S. plays fine, but using DVD player and movie DVD is the problem. My computer is a 7 years old desktop, self assembled with ATI rage 128 meg memory, and 384 meg system memory .FIC motherbord with Awards bios(bios date is 2000). If Cononical wants this O.S. to enter corporate and consumer market they must quickly solve this kind of problems in order to be taken seriously. As of today this O.S. is not ready for any kind of market and this is very strange after many years of development. Why they released Totem when they know it doesn't work? strange! [Bug 41335] Re: DVD playing is not working correctly with totem-gstreamer
MY third posting. If you are wondering , yes I read the entire Ubuntu website and all the information that they had to offere, I even did google search on Totem problem. Still no solution . I wonder why they recommend using terminal commands as oppose to using synaptic package manager or using Add/Remove option. As Ubuntu recommended I typed this at the termina but I got error message: sudo /usr/share/doc/libdvdread3/examples/install-css.sh Messages says: Command not found. so I added this using synaptic manager. After doing this I added extra Codecs for Gstreamer from Universe and multiverse reposotory. still no luck , Now I'm only getting sound from Totem, but no video. I agree this issue is really annoying. But I've noticed that if I run an application from xterm using "sudo application" command line, I get that unthemed gtk controls. So it's not a gksu problem. It's a common issue related to using user themes by gtk. I think that gtk should take into consideration not only user id that it's running under, but also a common context like who really owns the session and his themes/paths to themes. -- locally installed gtk themes not applied to admin apps https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/24280 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I hope this helps in troubleshooting this problem since I still don't have use of email on this system. Looking at the mail headers in all the messages in outbox, there is not one with a "To:" field the fields Date:, From:, Reply-To:, Subject:, X-Mailer:, etc. are present but no To: field. I just did another test and the CC: field is missing also. Is there is a config change between 2.3.25 and 2.3.28? [Bug 585195] [NEW] Evolution hangs reading pane after showing HTML message
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution -I am using POP3 accounts on Evolution to read my email and this error happens on reading their local messages. Besides that I also have IMAP setup, but am not usually using it. So this should not be related to the IMAP 'message formatting' bug. Expected behaviour: -HTML messages can be read like text messages in Evolution and reading pane does not hang after displaying HTML Problem behaviour: -Reading text only messages works without any issues, however on HTML messages it will render and display the message, but after this the reading pane freezes. -Freezing means: if I click on 'next message', 'prior message', 'delete' etc. the old HTML message remains in the reading pane, while the header of the reading window will change to the title of the next/prior email etc. Evolution itself will keep responding. -My current workaround is, to doubleclick on a next email, by this opening a new reading pane. For this pane now the same behaviour continues. I.e. as long as it shows text only messages there will be no issues, but it will hang the display after the first HTML message. -For each hung reading pane one status message is shown in the evolution status bar "Nachricht wird formatiert" = 'formatting message'. -When trying to close Evolution: -->it will not shut down if I have at least one of the "Nachricht wird formatiert" messages in the status bar and I need to kill it -->If I was lucky and read only text messages (and no "Nachricht wird formatiert" messages are still hanging) it will shut down peacefully. [Bug 545658] [NEW] System fails to boot / Unclear mountall prompt.
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: mountall Following the reformatting of a non-system partition, Ubuntu appeared to be unable to boot. Ubuntu boot screen hangs on: Waiting for /media/shared [SM] I pressed a key and was met with this message: mountall:mountall.c:2726: Not reached assertion failed in boredom_timeout Knowing that this UUID no longer existed I commented out the entry in fstab, rebooted and all was well. There are two issues here: 1) A missing trivial partition *appears* to cause complete failure of the system, at least to a non-technical user. 2) The mountall prompt is not user friendly. [SM] is actually a prompt to press S = skip? / M = maintenance? This could be a lot clearer, and appears to be undocumented (Not mentioned in man page). I only found this out afterwards when searching on this error, I had previously pressed another key which dropped me to maintenance shell. [Bug 398214] Re: Karmic Koala stopps dead after /scripts/init-bottom
I confirm this issue. I did upgrading from kubuntu 9.04 to 9.10 alpha and at some point when setting up downloaded packaged the system just freezed reacting only to the power button pressed for 6 sec. Consequent reboots (doesn't matter if the recovery kernel was used or not) freezed the same way after the line: Begin: Running /scripts/init-bottom ... Done. I also blamed a line like "Clocksource tsc unstable (delta = -127665427 ns)" right after the lines above but adding "notsc" parameter to the kernel eliminated the warning and kept freezes. The fix in the message #3 rabbitear helped (though I didn't touch fstab). -- Karmic Koala stopps dead after /scripts/init-bottom https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/398214 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 449058] [NEW] gnome alsamixer not loaded resulting in no sound
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-alsamixer I down loaded Ubuntu 9.10 Beta because I couldn't get sound to work under 9.04. I'm using a gateway 7326 laptop. After the installation was complete I still had NO SOUND. I searched the internet to no avail. I decided to look through Synaptic and see if maybe I needed another package. I noticed that gnome alsa mixer was not loaded. I remember that in all the reports in 9.04 the Gnome ALSA Mixer was always asked to be loaded so I did. Still NO SOUND. I was just about ready to throw this thing out when I recalled someone mentioning something about an EXTERNAL AMPLIFIER. I opened up the Gnome ALSA Mixer and to my surprise the external amplifier was checked. I had the Rythmbox player running when I unchecked it. Hopefully my hearing will recover LOL. I now have sound. I would have expected this to be set to use the systems internal amplifier or at best some prompt given the first time you attempt to use sound so one is aware that there is an external amplifier setting and how to change it. [Bug 1627144] [NEW] Received texts merging
Public bug reported: Sometimes, long multi-part texts have their ends truncated and replaced with the end of random texts received months earlier. [Bug 1590565] [NEW] Unable to turn off wi-fi or change network
Public bug reported: Since updating to OTA 11 on the M10, the network indicator occasionally goes awry and both 1) won't allow me to turn off the wi-fi, through use of either the flight mode or wi-fi switches, and.. 2) won't allow a change of network away from what the tablet is currently connected to. Please see the attached screenshot to see an example of the first problem. I can't offer steps to reproduce, as it seems to happen at a seemingly random interval after restart. Indeed, the only way to get the indicator working as intended is to do a restart. Since this is a production machine I didn't test the RC builds and I began testing with "v4.0.4-wily" and fortunately the bug was apparently fixed in this release, now my question is, 1- Can I continue using this kernel on this production machine, reliably and safely? 2- If I was to use the proprietary AMD/Radeon drivers, should I use the drivers built for vivid or wily? [Bug 1357090] Re: Black screen on resume in Xubuntu 14.04.1
I am also experiencing this bug with Ubuntu 14.04.1 AMD64 on an HP Stream 14 Chromebook. Surprise was that I was previously running 14.04 on this laptop via crouton and it worked a dream, so I did not expect any issues at all in upgrading to the LTS version. However, the upgrade has been a very painful experience compared to the 14.04 distro. My touchpad stopped working, which I was able to resolve by upgrading the kernel to 3.17. But, I am still unable to get past this issue with suspend. I have disabled suspend/hibernate for now, but this means i have to keep my laptop constantly plugged in when I am not using it or it will run out of battery. As you can imagine, this is annoying for any laptop user and even more annoying when this feature worked fine on the non LTS release. [Bug 1017798] [NEW] Virtualbox error after update kernel to 3.0.0-21-generic
Public bug reported: After updating from kernel 3.0.0-20-generic to 3.0.0-21-generic, Virutalbox was unable to start the installed Win XP virtual machine, reporting a problem with missing kernel drivers ("Kernel driver not installed (rc=-1908)"). After downgrading to kernel version 20 it works fine. Check all the steps I went through here (https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/201004), as other issues were involved too. I'm reporting this as a bug after the advice given by another user in the Ubuntu Questions thread linked above. [Bug 2108981] [NEW] samba segfaults when modifying any file
Public bug reported: Release version: 25.04 Package vers: 2:4.21.4+dfsg-1ubuntu3 My server is an i5-6500 with 64GB RAM, a 250G boot SSD (ext4), 2x 1TB SSDs in RAID1 (btrfs) and 2x 8TB HDDs in RAID 1 (btrfs). I had 24.10 installed and samba had no problems. I upgraded to 25.04 and samba now segfaults every time I modify a file. Creating a file is fine that I can tell. Steps to reproduce: 1. Create a blank file called test.txt and save it. It saves and opens fine. 2. Edit the file remotely then save (I am using xed on linux mint for text files). 3. Close the file, then reopen. It will pop up with an error and act if it's 'corrupt'. It will not read until the service is restarted. 4. Open the file on the server using nano. It will have your changes in it as if it saved just fine. 5. Restart smbd service. The file will load with the changes until it is edited again. 6. See log file which will show a segfault error occurred. I figured something got messed up during the update, so I cleaned my boot SSD and reinstalled a fresh ubuntu 25.04 release. First and only thing I installed was samba after mounting the storage disks and the error still happens. Reinstalled 24.10 and there are no issues. Files load, edit, and save just fine. [Bug 2108981] Re: samba segfaults when modifying any file
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected plucky ** Description changed: Release version: 25.04 Package vers: 2:4.21.4+dfsg-1ubuntu3 My server is an i5-6500 with 64GB RAM, a 250G boot SSD (ext4), 2x 1TB SSDs in RAID1 (btrfs) and 2x 8TB HDDs in RAID 1 (btrfs).
Sadly, I had already reverted my server back to 24.10. However, I was able to reproduce this on a virtual machine within virtualbox. Steps I did: - install 25.04 server image - sudo apt-get install samba - set up smbd.conf the same way as what I attached. - touch test.txt - restarted smbd - mounted the share on my laptop, then edited that text file. - Segfault occurs and files become unreadable like above. Will attach everything asked and retain the virtual machine if more info is needed. /var/log/dist-upgrade is empty as it is a fresh install. ** Attachment added: "all crash logs in /var/crash" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/samba/+bug/2108981/+attachment/5876731/+files/var-crash-logs.tar.gz -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2108981 Title: samba segfaults when modifying any file To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/samba/+bug/2108981/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 2108981] Re: samba segfaults when modifying any file
Would it matter if it's an LXC as it shares the same kernel as the host? I just did the same steps again on a brand new VM with a fresh 25.04 image downloaded just now and have the same issue. Although I did run into something I didn't think to test: I edited and saved the text file using vscodium on my host, no issues. Loaded, edited again, saved, no issues. I used 'xed', edited and saved. 'Corrupted' and the crash happens. Why would the choice of text editor on my host crash the samba service on my server? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2108981 Title: samba segfaults when modifying any file To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/samba/+bug/2108981/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 2108981] Re: samba segfaults when modifying any file
I just created an image in gimp (just a blank white box with some gibberish text), saved it there. Then opened it, edited the image, saved. Crash and corrupted gimp image. Cant copy it or do anything. Oddly, text file still loads fine. It's like it's the specific file stops working Restarted smb. Image is fine and includes the change I made. Edited text file with xed, saved. Opened, corrupted & crash. Gimp image is fine with latest changes. So to summarize what I did with this new VM: - install ubuntu 25.04 - apt-get update & upgrade - install samba - edit smb.conf with above changes - added samba password to user - restart smb - using xed: create a blank text file, save. Open, edit, save. - using gimp: create an image, save. Open, make some change, save. [Bug 2108981] Re: samba segfaults when renaming a file with open RHW lease
Oh yikes, quite a rabbit hole indeed. Glad it finally happened for you though. It's odd that a bug like this wasn't reported sooner given how widespread Mint is as an 'easy Windows replacement' and the fact that it's on noble for their current release. Oh well. Will keep watching for the plucky patches.
