[Bug 1929120] Re: dh_strip behaviour in Ubuntu Hirsute

2021-10-03 Thread banco
I've fixed it like in this patch:
https://git.pld-linux.org/?p=packages/ccache.git;a=commitdiff;h=0435ed4f5c3b8687b660073e157e82d474fc4eda;hp=a25c6b7178190592c717e54c81549e375b6c1932
By disabling faster linker in ./debian/rules from use_lld=true to use_lld=false.
After this everything compiled successfully.

[Bug 1846374] Re: Having a video playing/paused when switched to another user generates gigabytes of error logs

2021-10-03 Thread Michal Grňo
I can confirm this also happens on elementary OS 6 with nvidia-driver-470. I
tried to add a limit to /etc/systemd/journald.conf, but it didn't help at all.
Finally I managed to limit the log size using this tutorial:
https://askubuntu.com/questions/184949/how-do-i-limit-the-size-of-my-syslog

I still have problems with hight CPU & SSD usage caused by the logging,
but at least it doesn't fill my disk entirely.

[Bug 990982] Re: [Multiarch] libfreetype6-dev:i386 dependencies issue

2021-10-03 Thread Hugh McMaster
Out of interest, I installed 18.04 in a VM and had no problems
installing the multi-arch libfreetype6-dev packages for and64 and i386.

That said, you’re largely out of luck when it comes to building Wine
from source on 18.04. Even the most recent point release (18.04.6) is
limited by many build-dependencies not being multi-arch ready.

Multi-arch support really improved after 18.04. I’m afraid you’ll need
to migrate to 20.04 or more recent.

[Bug 1945894] Re: Translated strings not imported from damned lies

2021-10-03 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
Thanks for your report!

We don't import translations directly from Damned Lies, but via the PO
files in upstream's tarballs. The latest gtk3 version in Ubuntu is
3.24.30 which was released on July 8.

So if those strings were translated after July 8, they are not yet in
Ubuntu due to the workflow, but will show up later (probably only in
22.04).

Please let us know whether you still think there is a bug.

[Bug 1943840] Re: [FFe] Update the ubuntu-desktop-minimal seed to use the firefox snap

2021-10-03 Thread Jonathan White
To expand on the above, have the Firefox and snapd developers figured
out how to incorporate native messaging in a snap-based browser? You
guys are locking out a significant portion of useful extensions if not
figured out.

[Bug 1943450] Re: Contacts: Retrieve user S/MIME certificate does not work

2021-10-03 Thread Roger Meier
** Description changed:

- It's currently not possible to retrieve encryption certificates from GAL
- when connecting to o365.
+ [Impact]

+ * It's currently not possible to retrieve encryption certificates
+from Global Address List(GAL) when connecting to e.g., Office365
+
+ * A manual import of encryption certificates is required to send
+encrypted emails.
+
+ * The upstream bug has been fixed upstream and release for impish.
+
+ [Test Plan]
+
+ * Configure an EWS account, e.g., using Office365
+
+ * Search the Global Address List(GAL) and select a person that has
+an encryption certificate stored within the GAL.
+There is no certificate visible within Certificates tab.
+To send encrypted mails to that Person, the encryption certificate
+has to be manually imported via Preferences->Certificates->Contact
Certificates.
+
+ * With this bug fix the encryption certificate stored within the GAL will
+be visible within the contact details view and encrypted mails can be sent
+without manual import of encryption certificates.
+
+ [Where problems could occur]
+
+ * The patch has been tested over two weeks during daily work using
+ evolution-ews.
+
+ [Other Info]

  upstream:
- - issue: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/evolution-ews/-/issues/3
- - patch:
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/evolution-ews/uploads/ffa7d7a4934cd6bd8b0f44d8c5a47f8f/ews.patch

- The patch has not yet been merged upstream due to hard code freeze.
-
- I've back-ported the patch to evolution-ews 3.36.5 so it could be
- shipped with Ubuntu LTS. Would be great if you could integrate that and
- ship it with Ubuntu LTS, so people could benefit already today.

[Bug 1943840] Re: [FFe] Update the ubuntu-desktop-minimal seed to use the firefox snap

2021-10-03 Thread Olivier Tilloy
Sam, that is the reason why we're doing this in a normal, non-LTS
release, which gives us time to identify and iron out problems and
regressions like this, while exposing the change to real-world testing.
The firefox deb package will remain supported for the duration of the
21.10 release, so this is not locking users or extensions out.

Jonathan, native messaging support in strictly-confined browser snaps is
being discussed here: https://forum.snapcraft.io/t/native-messaging-
support-in-strictly-confined-browser-snaps/26849. Constructive feedback
and use cases, as well as suggestions, are welcome. Me-too -like
comments and rants are not. Thanks!

[Bug 1943450] Re: Contacts: Retrieve user S/MIME certificate does not work

2021-10-03 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Thank you!

Ubuntu policy is that this bug also needs to be fixed in later supported
Ubuntu releases at the same time or before it is fixed in older Ubuntu
releases. That means we need to fix this in Ubuntu 21.04 too. Do you
have the ability to test whether the fix works on Ubuntu 21.04?

[Bug 1945873] Re: vt.handoff=7 ~broken on VM

2021-10-03 Thread Mason Loring Bliss
I've been lax in exercising this stuff. I tend to stick to Ubuntu LTS
hypervisors (hence hardware), and my VMs are often other systems. I only
noticed this issue because I needed a VM test environment for the un-
related ZFS root bug I was exploring. I haven't ruled out that it's an
artifact of my install method, although if it is, that itself might
indicate a missing explicit dependency somewhere. I'll try to get time
to do a vanilla install using one of the shipped installers, and I'll
report back with results.

[Bug 1945908] [NEW] Giara fails to log in due to extra characters at end of URL

2021-10-03 Thread Boris Gjenero
Public bug reported:

When I ran Giara for the first time, it gave a button for logging in,
which opened a Reddit login confirmation for Giara in my default
browser, Firefox. After confirming that, Firefox asked me to open a
link in Giara. That failed, with Giara printing:

Error authorizing Reddit client, retrying…
Error authorizing Reddit client after retry, quitting…

Before that, Giara displayed link starting with orggabmusgiaradesktop://
and ending with #_ on the terminal from where I started it. That # and
all characters after it need to be removed for a successful login.
Simply run Giara from the command line with that link as the only
argument, with those characters at the end removed.

[Bug 1945909] [NEW] Giara requires gir1.2-handy-1

2021-10-03 Thread Boris Gjenero
Public bug reported:

After installing Giara, when trying to start it I got:

Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/bin/giara", line 69, in

  File "/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/gi/__init__.py", line 126, in

raise ValueError('Namespace %s not available' % namespace)

Installing gir1.2-handy-1 fixed it. This requirement seems to include
the Python interface to Libhandy. Previously libhandy-1-0 was installed,
but that was not enough.

[Bug 1945868] Re: focal kvm virtio_net set_features failed (-22)

2021-10-03 Thread Paul White
There is no 'focal' package in any current release of Ubuntu.
Assuming you meant to task against the kernel.
So moving to 'linux'.

** Package changed: focal (Ubuntu) => linux (Ubuntu)

[Bug 1926938] Re: Recent mainline packages are built with Hirsuite 21.04, not Focal 20.04 LTS

2021-10-03 Thread Jens Glathe
Hmm. Got 5.14.9 running directly from the
https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/ repository. Works with
nvidia driver 4.70 on Mint 20.2 :)

build sequence:

- checkout cod/mainline/v5.14.9 from
git://git.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-kernel-test/ubuntu/+source/linux/+git/mainline-crack
- install libfuse-dev (shown in the selftest fail log, so I guessed it can't
hurt)
- time sudo debian/rules clean
- time sudo dpkg-buildpackage -d -nc --no-sign -j33
- sudo chown -R : ..

Prerequisites is having built dwarves, libbpf, and probably zstd like
mentioned in #71. Package runs successfully on several machines.

One oddity I've seen: running the build again will fail. You need to git
clean -df multiple times, and do a git reset --hard . But pretty
straight forward anyway.

[Bug 1944389] Re: Thermald 1.9.1-1ubuntu0.6 keeps Tigerlake GPU frequency on 400 MHz

2021-10-03 Thread Eugene86
Checked with kernel 5.13.0-1014-oem
(5.11.0-37-generic is not usable for this laptop as wifi and external display
are not recognized)
Both
# echo idle > workload_type
or
# echo bursty > workload_type
are not helpful.
Also balance_power is in
/sys/devices/system/cpu/cpufreq/policy$i/energy_performance_preference for
every CPU by default.

[Bug 1821564] Re: b44 Ethernet driver null pointer during initialization

2021-10-03 Thread Boris Gjenero
In Ubuntu 21.10 with 5.13.0-16-generic kernel, I don't get any dmesg
errors after I "modprobe b44" and Ethernet works initially at reasonable
speed, but the whole system freezes totally after a few minutes. I
suppose this means the b44 driver still doesn't work properly, because I
don't get such freezes when using WiFi. Though I don't know for sure,
because I don't have any error messages.

[Bug 1945927] [NEW] Terrible resolution on integrated webcam on Dell XPS 13 Developer Edition 9310

2021-10-03 Thread Jordan
Public bug reported:

This seems to be a known issue, but I couldn't find any launchpad bug
corresponding to it. Apologies if I missed it, or if there is a better
place for reporting a bug like this.

When I try to use the webcam on my newly purchased Dell XPS-13-9310
Developer Edition, using Cheese (or any other app) on Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS
(fossa-bulbasaur X55), as it came out of the box, I only get a very
pixelated low quality 640x480 resolution instead of the hardware's
1280×720 capability as advertised here:

https://www.dell.com/en-us/work/shop/dell-laptops-and-
notebooks/xps-13-developer-edition/spd/xps-13-9310-laptop

From what I gather, no linux driver exist that can use the full
resolution of this webcam.

I hope that it is somehow possible to get a proper driver from Dell /
Realtek. If not, I hope that Realtek can provide documentation for the
interface so that a proper driver can be written. I'm tempted to try to
make that my first contribution of a driver, but in all likelihood I
won't have the time or motivation to learn all that's needed and
actually write it.

Until a driver is available, I would appreciate if Dell would clarify on
their website that their 9310 Developer Edition can only use the full
advertised resolution in Windows. (I would not have bought this laptop
if I had known about this limitation, as I frequently use Google Meet /
Zoom and the current quality is not acceptable to me).

[Bug 1945916] Re: unattended root privileges on changes of recently-used.xbel

2021-10-03 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1945916/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1945912] Re: Shows Blank Screen on boot

2021-10-03 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Bug reporting is mostly about finding & fixing problems thus preventing
future users from hitting the same bug.

I suspect a Support site would be more appropriate, eg.
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu. You can also find help with your
problem in the support forum of your local Ubuntu community
http://loco.ubuntu.com/ or asking at https://askubuntu.com or
https://ubuntuforums.org, or for more support options please look at
https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/community-support/709
