[Bug 1834379] Re: armhf Bionic python3-pygraphviz package errors for simple use case

2019-06-30 Thread Graham Inggs
Hi Emerson

I'm looking to sponsor this upload. The version number in your change
log conflicts with version 1.4~rc1-1build3 in Cosmic. I've looked at
the security team's versioning guidelines [1], and this is an unusual
case since Cosmic already has a no-change rebuild. I suggest using
1.4~rc1-1build2.1 for the Bionic upload.

Regards
Graham

Can confirm the segfault.

Actually snap package is not a solution, it has a different behaviour
with media keys (not working without an explicit mapping) that's why the
deb package is preferrable.

[Bug 1834770] [NEW] Black screen when switching the monitor on after upgrade to 18.04

2019-06-30 Thread Laure
Public bug reported:

My PC has an Nvidia G98 video card with a single monitor (HP ZR22w)
connected over DisplayPort. When I turn the monitor off and switch it
back on, the screen remains black. The monitor displays its "no signal"
message.

This only happens while logged in, either with the default Gnome-Shell
interface or without a desktop environment. More precisely, if the
current console is the GUI session on tty2 when I switch the monitor on,
the monitor does not receive any signal. If the current console is the
Gdm login screen on tty1 or a text mode login screen on tty3, the
display turns on normally.

Running xrandr shows "DP-2 connected primary 1920x1080+0+0 (normal left
inverted right x axis y axis) 475mm x 267mm" when the monitor is on,
even when the screen remains black. It shows DP-2 as disconnected while
the monitor is off.

The attached log file Xorg.1.log shows a session where I log in, then
turn the monitor off and turn it back on a few seconds later. X does
notice that the monitor has been turned on, yet the screen remains
black.

Switching consoles after turning the monitor on does not help. To get
the display back, the current console has to be something other than the
logged-in console at the time the monitor is switched on. Another
workaround is to run "xset dpms force off; xset dpms force on" when the
screen is black after switching the monitor on.

This happens since I upgraded from Ubuntu 16.04 to 18.04.

I had assistance writing this bug report, I can only type in the
terminal whatever I am told.

Indeed.
This appears to be related to the lossless JPG transformations as it is
reproducible with jpegtran.

I don't know if there is anything against it we can do inside EOG.

A workaround would be to save the rotated image in PNG-format (lossless)
and then save the PNG-File as a JPG again.

I can reproduce it as well. These pixels are not really wrong, but they

Hmm, I don't think this is a problem with libjpeg but with lossless jpeg
transformations in general. It could be what Alan Horkan talks about in bug
338138 comment 9 (first paragraph). Rotating the image would apparently require
trimming the image to a multiple of 16.
The question is: Can we detect this and warn the user (and possibly let him
decide what to do)?

In contrast to eog, gthumb does detect this situation and displays a
dialog with the following text:

This transformation may introduce small image distortions along one or
more edges, because the image dimensions are not multiples of 8.

The distortion is reversible, however. If the resulting image is
unacceptable, simply apply the reverse transformation to return to the
original image.

You can also choose to discard (or trim) any untransformable edge
pixels. For practical use, this mode gives the best looking results, but
the transformation is not strictly lossless anymore.

It then gives the options: "Trim", "Cancel" and "Accept distortions".

[Bug 1834773] Re: weather data

2019-06-30 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. I noticed that you are installing an End of Life version
of Ubuntu, unless you have some specific requirements to run an older
insecure release I recommend trying to install the latest LTS version of
Ubuntu. We released version 16.04, in April of 2016, and it is a Long
Term Support release. You can find different ways to obtain it at
http://download.ubuntu.com. Thanks!

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 584529] Re: Thunderbird complains there is no connection on resume from suspend, when there is a connection

2019-06-30 Thread Paul White
The upstream bugs 569324 and 737241 were both closed "RESOLVED WORKSFORME"
on 2012-12-16 and 2019-02-16 respectively.

I can't reproduce the bug here using either Ubuntu 18.04 or 19.10 and
Thunderbird 60. Can this now be closed or does anyone still have a problem
with Thunderbird not connecting after resuming from suspend?

[Bug 1834778] [NEW] Nvidia: external monitor not recognized any more since 4.18.0-24

2019-06-30 Thread patrick
Public bug reported:

Hi,

Notebook, Ubuntu 18.04 LTS with kernel 4.18 hwe. Since 4.18.0-24 my
external monitors are not recognized. xrandr lists the internal screen
only. If I boot 4.18.0-23, everything is fine (glad to have that
fallback). Update to 4.18.0-25 did not change the problem.

Is this the right place for the bug report? Since booting an older
kernel works, I think it belongs here.

Description:Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS

[Bug 1834778] Re: Nvidia: external monitor not recognized any more since 4.18.0-24

2019-06-30 Thread patrick
Additional info: I'm using the Nvidia binary driver 415.27. If I boot
kernel 4.18.0.24 or 4.18.0.25 the Nvidia-settings are "empty", just a
frame with a close button, this is also buggy, with kernel 4.18.0.23 the
nvidia-setting look normal.

2019-06-30 Thread Mark
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected bionic third-party-packages wayland-
session

** Description changed:

This is for updated Ubuntu 18.04,

  I have installed scilab package,

Problem: hardcoded java-8-oracle somewhere, installation goes ok, when I run
scilab
  ```
  $ scilab
  Cannot find /usr/lib/jvm/java-8-oracle/bin/java
  ```

I have only openjdk-11-jre (which is Bionic default) installed.

  Workaround:
  add symlink to default-java
  ```
  cd /usr/lib/jvm
  /usr/lib/jvm# ln -s default-java java-8-oracle
  ```

  Correct fix:
in scripts use default-java instead of java-8-oracle.

Sorry, I was not able to find which line is failing with the hardcoded
  path.

  Thank you,

[Bug 1834265] Re: scilab fails to start missing java-8-oracle

2019-06-30 Thread Mark
H Tiago, I've updated the bug.

I also did:
apt purge .. to remove the rc statuses for java in command 1.
then apt remove --purge openjdk* scilab* //to start anew
When I install scilab, it pulls openjdk-11-jre but issue with oracle-java still
remains

Thanks for looking into this!

[Bug 1834782] [NEW] ASUS Zenbook UX433FN: sound stops working after a couple of seconds

2019-06-30 Thread Mark
Public bug reported:

Issue: whichever sound-related action (sound +/- media keys, spotify song,
youtube vid in browser,...) I do, the sound works OK for about 2-3 seconds, and
then stops and becomes silent.
The interesting thing is that when I stop playing the audio (ie close the
browser tab with a song), after a while when I try aain the sound works again.
Yet still for just the few secs.

Environment:
up-to-date Ubuntu 18.04, tried -hwe, hwe-edge kernels.

This is a regression, the sound used to work OK on this machine, and
nothing significant related to sound has changed since.

Thank you for looking into this bug!

[Bug 1834782] Re: ASUS Zenbook UX433FN: sound stops working after a couple of seconds

2019-06-30 Thread Mark
I am not sure if this is a kernel/FW issue, as the soundcard is recognized and
the sound playes at first.
On the other hand there were not changes/updates to alsa, pulseaudio and the
sound used to work ok before.

These problems started to appear cca a month ago(?) but usually "some
trick" made it work again (I didn't identify exactly what), like
++volume key after the sound stoped working, this does not help anymore.

This was causing a login loop, once the diversions were removed, and

[Bug 1759836] Re: systemd-udevd consumes 100% of CPU

2019-06-30 Thread August Pamplona
Mortimer, it's still available at the Google cache:
https://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?https://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:Ulh1YXwMuK8J:https://dev.getsol.us/T5224

It appears that the fix there addresses the same file and the same line
in that file. However, the lines are simply being deleted there & it
breaks Bluetooth so I wouldn't go that route (though at the time I did
due to not knowing any better).

They are also placing it at a different location, /etc/udev/rules.d/,
and I don't know the significance of that.

And to address what others are saying, yes, hand editing a system file
(and one, at that, which is headed by the comment line "# do not edit
this file, it will be overwritten on update") is not an optimal
solution.

[Bug 1834779] Re: equivs-build: fatal error occurred while parsing debian/changelog

2019-06-30 Thread era
This indicates an error in your input file. I'm guessing the
parenthesized number in the Source: field is what causes the parse
error, but I'm not in a place where I can check this.

equivs-build uses the data in your input file to populate a number of
templates which are required in all Debian packages. Sometimes errors
are passed through and cause one of the build toolchain utilities to
fail with an error. Perhaps see also upstream bug

John Ross, did you get an error about not being able to install grub-
efi-amd64-signed to /target?

It might be worth trying another install without internet

[Bug 1834788] [NEW] can't install x11-server-utils or xset

2019-06-30 Thread pieper
Public bug reported:

On 18.04 I want to be able to run the xset command but it is not
installed.

The man page says it is part of x11-server-utils:

http://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages/bionic/man1/xset.1.html

But when I try to install it is not found (even though it says it is
referred to by another package).

$ sudo apt-get install x11-server-utils
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Package x11-server-utils is not available, but is referred to by another
package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source

E: Package 'x11-server-utils' has no installation candidate

I am running this version:

$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS
Release:18.04

[Bug 1834785] Re: GIMP 2.10.12 (kesselgulash ppa version) crashed after I tried to switch the theme from dark to light

2019-06-30 Thread Erich Eickmeyer
1) Under no circumstances is KDE Neon supported here. Only official
Ubuntu flavors are supported here. Bug reports for KDE Neon need to be
directed to the KDE Neon developers.

2) GIMP 2.10 is not included in the Ubuntu 18.04 repositories, and
packages from most PPAs are not supported. Please direct your report to
the owner of that PPA.

For those reasons, this bug is invalid.

[Bug 1824195] Re: Ubiquity offers network-required options where no network is available

2019-06-30 Thread Yousuf 'Jay' Philips
Repod in my duplicate bug with 19.10 daily about the updates checkbox.

Regarding the 3rd party software checkbox, which has a label of "Install
third-party software for graphics and Wi-Fi hardware and additional
media formats", i'm not sure this part of the bug report is valid, as
without the internet i presume that some of the additional media formats
are being installed from the CD and i believe that ubuntu will be
bundling the nvidia driver on the CD.
