[Bug 1577074] Re: [HP Pavilion 15] Intermittent black screens

2016-12-30 Thread Timo Aaltonen
Lowering the priority does not "hide" anything, and bumping it doesn't
help either.

This has not been filed upstream so there's nothing for me to do.

I've been getting this since I upgraded to 16.10

It shows in the lightdm log, so maybe a problem with lightdm

[Bug 1542733] Re: Connect to Hidden Wi-Fi Network, "Connect" grayed out

2016-12-30 Thread Glenn Moloney
I just noticed today that on my Ubuntu 16.10 machine the problem doesn't
exist... Might try installing the pre-release of 16.04.2 which has
kernel 4.8 to see if that makes any difference. Or maybe installing the
network manager from 16.10.

[Bug 1597267] Re: ThinkPad X260 connecting external DisplayPort hangs system

2016-12-30 Thread Tero Marttila
I've had good enough experiences with mainline 4.8.15 at this point that
I would consider this bug fixed in linux 4.8.x; it's still not perfect
(have to typically play around with xrandr and maybe undock/dock), but
external 4k DP monitor via a ThinkPad dock works fairly reliably now.

OTOH I was unable to get any DP video output at all with mainline Linux
4.9...

[Bug 1651454] Re: [Lenovo Thinkpad T460p] Ultra Dock external displays not detected after suspend/resume cycle

2016-12-30 Thread Catalin Vasile
I do confirm Donjan Rodic success. The only thing, the WiFi seems to
work crappy with 4.9. I does not disconnect, but for a good couple of
seconds nothing internet related loads or freezes in the case of ssh
connections, but after those seconds everything works back. Didn't
remember to have such problems with 4.4 kernels.

[Bug 1651454] Re: [Lenovo Thinkpad T460p] Ultra Dock external displays not detected after suspend/resume cycle

2016-12-30 Thread Catalin Vasile
Also the switch between the monitors does not work very well. I get
something working by pressing frenetically the "switch screens" Fn
button. And my options are not remembered (just external monitor when
docked, just internal when undocked).

My work around was to make two scripts:
/usr/bin/xrandr -d :0.0 --verbose|grep " connected" ; /usr/bin/xrandr -d :0.0
--output DP2-2 --off --output eDP1 --auto

and:
/usr/bin/xrandr -d :0.0 --verbose|grep " connected" ; /usr/bin/xrandr -d :0.0
--output DP2-2 --auto --output eDP1 --off

And bind these to some key combination. The problem is that sometimes my
X11 session crashes, and that does not feel to fluffy.

P.S. I do that printout intentionally. I takes time for the external
monitor to be detected. It seemed that when I did that printout it made
the external monitor be detected quicker.

[Bug 1653217] [NEW] stop job timeout loops forever

2016-12-30 Thread Wolfgang Fahl
Public bug reported:

On my Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS with the most recent software updates I regularly run
into a situation
where the reboot of the machine will hang with a message
 A stop job is running for ... (1min 23s / 1min 30s)

which is already annoying by itself see e.g.
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/systemd/+bug/1457400

what is worse is that after 90 secs the message changes to
 A stop job is running for ... (1min 31s / 3min 0s)
and so on which effectively means the machine will not reboot since this seems
to go on for ever (I tried at least for 15 minutes ...)

The reason for the stop job behavior seems to be a cifs mount from the machine
to one of it's virtual machine. The shutdown sequence seems to be that the
virtual machines are shutdown first than the try to unmount the CIFS share will
obviously fail (which in fact would not be any big deal at all). First I'll now
try to workaround this bug but this bug indeed has horrible consequences:
- the machine will not properly reboot by itself any more needing human
intervention
- since the console is not accessible a hard reset is needed
- the hard reset will cause a file system check since the cifs mounts are
unmounted before the physical drives so the file systems on the physical drives
are not shut down properl.y
- on my machine there are several multi-terrabyte drives where the filesystem
checks will take approx an hour
- so each reboot at this time might take at least an hour and an ugly procedure
- thats not what I expect from an OS in this century ...

[Bug 1542743] Re: Bluetooth: Patch file not found ar3k/AthrBT_0x00000200.dfu

2016-12-30 Thread Pilot6
My DKMS package was made for the 4.4 kernel. It does not build for 4.8.

To get it work on 4.8 you need to patch the btusb.c from that kernel.

[Bug 1652711] Re: Please upstream the multiarch patch to Debian

2016-12-30 Thread LocutusOfBorg
@Jeremy, can you please point me the calligra patch?
Honestly I think this patch is not easily upstreamable, I would prefer to drop
it completely, as you/I said on bug 1596391, we can "include(GNUInstallDirs)"
and get the multiarch bits for free.

If you provide me a list of packages, I'll make sure they are at least
patched in Debian and sync'd in Ubuntu

2016-12-30 Thread Dmitriy Geels
Some sort of workaround:

1) add udev rule /etc/udev/rules.d/90-backlight.rules:
ACTION=="add", SUBSYSTEM=="backlight", RUN+="/bin/chgrp video
/sys/class/backlight/%k/brightness"
ACTION=="add", SUBSYSTEM=="backlight", RUN+="/bin/chmod g+w
/sys/class/backlight/%k/brightness"

2) add yourself to group video: sudo usermod -a -G video $USER

3) run: sudo udevadm control -R && sudo udevadm trigger -c add -s
backlight

[Bug 1653232] [NEW] Dragging window to left edge or right edge or using keyboard shortcuts doesn't tile window to half the screen

2016-12-30 Thread Ads20000
Public bug reported:

What I expected to happen:
Dragging window to the left edge or right edge or using `Ctrl` + `Super` +
`Left` or `Ctrl` + `Super` + `Right` tiles the window to half the screen.

What happens:
When doing any of those four actions, the window is not tiled to half the
screen.

by default? This is quite a big missing default feature. Also the
AskUbuntu question is for Ubuntu 16.04 (after upgrading from Ubuntu

[Bug 1653056] Re: kimchi never finishes installing even after an hour when the other 150 megabytes of packages took 5 minutes

2016-12-30 Thread Hans Joachim Desserud
>/var/lib/dpkg/info/postinst on if installing you need to have dpkg
--configure instead of dpkg configure

That resolves the issue? Sounds like a good starting point for a patch
:)

> Seems like a minor typo and could maybe need to be upstreamed from
debian?

Possibly, note that this package doesn't seem to have made it into
Debian (note the 0ubuntu in the version number which means no Debian
version). See also bug 1408071 and the corresponding Debian bug for more
on the back story there. Looks like there's been some ongoing work to
add it to Debian, and along the way the package was accepted into
Ubuntu. Might be relevant for upstream though, if they include parts of
the packaging.

[Bug 1653012] Re: RTL8821AE doesn't work after some minutes.

2016-12-30 Thread hotellina
Now I upgraded my motherboard bios to version 603 and th connection does
not stop completely. I can still browse the web but when I upload a big
file via FTP the connection stops intermittently.

I upload the file with Filezilla and before of the Bios upgrade it used
to stop intertmittently without giving any chance to browse the web with
another program.

What happens after the Bios upgrade is that the upload stops in
Filezilla while I am still able to use the web for other things with
other programs.

It looks I don't have any problem in downloading big files from the web
via http not ftp.

[Bug 1653239] Re: Wrong plugin version displayed in chromium

2016-12-30 Thread Bo Kersey
It appears that the the line in the debian/rules file that should take
care of this did not work properly in the package that I downloaded from
the repository

Here is the line from the rules file:
cat debian/10-flash.in | sed -e 's/#PPAPI_VERSION#/$(shell python -c
"import json; print
json.load(file('$(DEB_BUILD_ARCH)/manifest.json'))['version']")/g' >
debian/10-flash

Here is the output when I rebuilt using a clean sbuild environment:
cat debian/10-flash.in | sed -e 's/#PPAPI_VERSION#/24.0.0.186/g' >
debian/10-flash

The file /etc/chromium-browser/customizations/10-flash appears to be correct
when I build the package without changes in a pristine sbuild environment
created with
mk-sbuild trusty --arch=amd64 --name=tester
--debootstrap-mirror=http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu --distro=ubuntu --vg
data

It looks as if there is something missing in the build environment that
is not specified in the control file used to build adobe-flashplugin
1:20161213.1-0ubuntu0.

[Bug 1653259] [NEW] Ubuntu 16.10 Full screen freeze appears to be a continuation of bug 1561795

2016-12-30 Thread Jan Greeff
Public bug reported:

The system freezes on full screen e.g. when playing videos, viewing
Power Point presentations but especially when xscreensaver activates.

Music still plays in the background (where applicable), the mouse cursor
moves but has no effect, cannot click anywhere. If I reboot via
ctrl+alt+f1 the system reboots and continues to function normally until
a full screen activity triggers the same response.

The problem does not occur at every activation of full screen, but
appears to be triggered consistently by xscreensaver.

The possibility of a hardware problem should be eliminated by the fact
that I have transferred the ssd containing the problematic OS to a newer
desktop machine where the exact same symptoms are being experienced as
in the previous desktop.

[Bug 1641104] Re: [Feature Request] exfat filesystem support

2016-12-30 Thread dino99
Gparted can already detect/move/copy exfat partition. But exfat has been
licenced by MS, so it cant be included into a free tool. (see Debian
report discussion)

http://gparted.org/features.php

As this request is out of free software, that report is closed, like
Debian's one has been too.

[Bug 1574667] Re: Mouse pointer occasionally jumps to the bottom-left corner

2016-12-30 Thread Peter B.
I have been experiencing the identical problem on my new Dell XPS 15
touchscreen laptop running Ubuntu 16.04 fully patched. Two problems
actually:

(1) touchpad mouse pointer randomly jumps to the bottom left corner,
which frustratingly can result in the trash application opening up, and
at least having to reset the mouse pinter back to where you need it.

(2) mouse pointer too often also jumps backwards several characters so
you wind up typing in the middle of your sentence.

Both of the above problems become frustrating enough that you want to
throw the laptop across the room, LOL. It happened to me like 3-4 times
just typing this. Windows is also on this computer and has no such
issues.

Ubuntu, this has really got to be fixed.

[Bug 1574667] Re: Mouse pointer occasionally jumps to the bottom-left corner

2016-12-30 Thread Peter B.
PS: I realized I needed to point out corrections to my previous post
about my Dell XPS 15 which is running Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, as follows:

(1) touchpad mouse pointer randomly jumps to the bottom left corner,
which frustratingly can result in the trash application opening up since
one might be trying to click an application, and at least having to move
the mouse pointer back to where you need it. (this is not related to
touchscreen. this is touchpad issue)

(2) text typing ... too often the position jumps backwards several
characters so you wind up typing in the middle of your sentence, and
sometimes jumps elsewhere in the text field. Just typing this, it
jumped once or twice as I said.

[Bug 1596027] Re: No hardware acceleration for H264 Decoding in Pepper Flash Plugin

2016-12-30 Thread Nathanaël Naeri
Flash with Chromium-based browsers is out of my knowledge, sorry.

A quick Google search shows that apparently, at least a few years ago,
Chromium/Chrome used to disable hardware acceleration for certain
graphic cards. Knowing the limited capabilities of the AMD/ATI Radeon HD
6310 (an APU-integrated graphic card that equipped my dad's early 2010s
mini-desktop computer), perhaps hardware acceleration is indeed disabled
for this card. In which case, it might be forced, and perhaps the
following (dated) links can still help:

http://askubuntu.com/questions/325431/hardware-acceleration-of-chromes-flash-plugin
http://www.webupd8.org/2014/01/enable-hardware-acceleration-in-chrome.html

You should also install a Mozilla-based browser (and the PPAPI/NPAPI
wrapper browser-plugin-freshplayer-pepperflash), enable hardware
accelerated decoding (see comment 1), and see if you can reproduce this
issue (no hardware accelerated H.264 in Flash videos). This would help
find out whether it's the browser's fault or the plugin's fault (cause
I'm not sure this bug should be filed against the plugin).

** Changed in: adobe-flashplugin (Ubuntu)

** Summary changed:

- No hardware acceleration for H264 Decoding in Pepper Flash Plugin

[Bug 1638842] Re: network-manager does not manage ethernet and bluetooth interfaces when Ubuntu 16.10 is installed using chroot/netboot method

2016-12-30 Thread Julian Taylor
I just upgraded from 16.04 desktop to 16.10 and the file
/etc/NetworkManager/conf.d/10-globally-managed-devices.conf was not created so
my wired network did not work.
Creating the file fixed this issue.
Is the file supposed to be created on desktop upgrades?

[Bug 1639737] Re: New Version of JasPer JPEG2000 Software Available

2016-12-30 Thread Michael Adams
Another update:
The latest tarball release of JasPer (on the JasPer web site) is now version
2.0.10:
http://www.ece.uvic.ca/~frodo/jasper/software/jasper-2.0.10.tar.gz

Presuming that Ubuntu cares at all about security, there are a massive
number of security and other bug fixes that have been applied to JasPer
between the 1.900.1 version currently used in Ubuntu and the 2.0.10
version. To the best of my knowledge, Ubuntu is the only major Linux
distribution that insists on continuing to use the old obsolete 1.900.1
version of JasPer.

[Bug 1653264] [NEW] gnome-screensaver starts within a KDE session

2016-12-30 Thread Neil Turton
Public bug reported:

I use KDE, but every so often I find gnome-screensaver running, not
immediately after starting a session but after some time and activity.
If I kill the gnome-screensaver process it goes away for a while, but
starts up again some time later. As a result, I have a screensaver
running which doesn't respond to the KDE screensaver configuration.

I discovered that some applications cause gnome-screensaver to start
during a KDE session. Two examples are totem and neverball and I expect
there are more. I suspect that these applications attempt to
temporarily disable the screensaver in a way which causes gnome-
screensaver to start.

For example:

neil@eagle:~$ pidof gnome-screensaver
neil@eagle:~$ totem &
[1] 8776
neil@eagle:~$ Gtk-Message: Failed to load module "overlay-scrollbar"

neil@eagle:~$ pidof gnome-screensaver
8787
neil@eagle:~$

I think gnome-screensaver should not become active due to an application
attempting to suspend/resume screensaver activity, even if it is using a
gnome-screensaver specific interface.

[Bug 1620483] Re: package virtualbox-ext-pack 5.0.24-0ubuntu1.16.04.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2016-12-30 Thread Roger Peartree
I became the owner of /usr/share (sudo chown -R username:root
/usr/share), removed completely the package using Synaptic and when I
reinstalled the problem persisted. So, at least for me, this is not the
resolution for this bug. Anyway many thanks for the help. I think I'll
try to download the virtualbox-ext-pack for the (quite old, I must
say...) 5.0.24 version that is in the Ubuntu repositories and then open
the package with VirtualBox. I just hope that they still have these very
old version available in their site...

After upgrading from stock Ubuntu 14.04 to 16.04 my laptop consistently

once with no videos loaded. I haven’t observed it freeze / hang when I’m

2016-12-30 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Andrew (keen101):

1) In order to better confirm applicability, could you please undo your
WORKAROUND, and test the kernel parameter:
intel_idle.max_cstate=1

what is most helpful is you personally testing this (not relying on
someone else, somewhere else, with some other/similar hardware).

2) If the above does indeed provide a WORKAROUND, as per Len Brown (upstream)
he needs you to test a debug patch, and then use a script that increases the
probability of invoking the bug:
1) Debug patch: https://bugzilla.kernel.org/attachment.cgi?id=248751
2) Script: https://bugzilla.kernel.org/attachment.cgi?id=248841

Could you please temporarily remove your WORKAROUND, and use this patch
to provide the requested information?

[Bug 1620483] Re: package virtualbox-ext-pack 5.0.24-0ubuntu1.16.04.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2016-12-30 Thread Roger Peartree
Yes this is the correct solution for now. Go to Oracle's site, navigate
to Old Builds and then select the virtualbox-ext-pack, version 5.0.24,
it's the same file for all Architectures, download it then open it with
VirtualBox, using the context menu and then VirtualBox will happily
download it and install it. I think it would be advisable to return the
ownership of /usr/share to root, because of keeping the system safe. If
you have taken ownership of /usr/share/sounds because of playing the
Login sound or System sounds you'll have to take ownership of that
folder only again.

[Bug 1653270] [NEW] Lubuntu 16.10 installer doesn't work at DELL precision tower 3420

2016-12-30 Thread Hidemasa Nakajima
Public bug reported:

1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'lsb_release -rd' or System ->
About Ubuntu
Lubuntu 16.10 desktop

2) The version of the package you are using, via 'apt-cache policy pkgname' or
by checking in Software Center
I couldn't install Lubuntu 16.10 on DELL precision tower 3420.

3) What you expected to happen
A smooth installation.

4) What happened instead
a) Converted Lubuntu 16.10 desktop iso by using rufus and booted from USB and
UEFI mode.
b) Cleared up samsung SSD by Gparted and set the partition table "gpt".
c) Lubuntu installer warned me to set LVM on this SSD, suddenly the installer
stops.
