[Bug 1592822] Re: Charm push crashes when pushing 'big' charm.
Is this a case that we are successfully sending data to squid at a reasonable but slow rate, such that it takes more than 5 minutes to upload the whole content and squid doesn't send anything to Apache until all of it has been transferred. It sounds like we'll have the same problem with resources. While it might allow us to break up a large charm into a few smaller resources, AIUI some of the charms have a single tarball that is more than 1GB in size. Arbitrarily limiting the size is going to just cause people to work around the system (self hosting, etc) Which breaks many of the benefits of having resources (demure transfers, offline mirroring, etx) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1592822 Title: Charm push crashes when pushing 'big' charm. [Bug 1600576] [NEW] Screen rolling/rotating horizontally when using specific applications
Public bug reported: Sometimes the following graphics glitch is triggered where the screen starts moving/rotating rapidly. See https://i.imgur.com/u6j5auo.gif (gedit on LXDE). This is triggered semi-randomly while using specific apps like Kate, gEdit, gVim, leafpad, embedded console inside Dolphin, KDevelop and rarely with Konsole. Also triggered for a few split-seconds when I move the mouse when in fullscreen mode in VLC but stabilises quickly. However, everything is stable when I just use Chrome or Firefox, LXTerminal, Clementine and Code::Blocks, even for hours. Whenever this is triggered, it can sometimes be fixed when I switch to desktop or Chrome or a different app while closing the trigger-er app while other times, rebooting is the only way. Sometimes (rarely) the screen becomes completely black after a while, with key-presses and mouse movements revealing the screen for split-seconds which allows me to properly shutdown/restart the laptop. I've tried to Google the problem with no results, I'm not even sure what to search for. And I apologize if this isn't the correct place to report. I've already tried a couple of places with no replies or help whatsoever. [Bug 1600577] [NEW] Fullscreen videos stuttering in Firefox
Public bug reported: All full screen videos are heavily stuttering in Firefox. The stuttering is very heavy, it basically stops for a few seconds then jumps to a next frame, again stops for a few seconds then again jumps to a next frame. There is absolutely no continuous play, it just jumps from one frame to the other. Videos in Chromium work fine. Restarting Firefox does not help. Restarting gnome-shell does not help. When I restart the whole computer it is okay for a short time, but it gets into this state very quickly. Although this happens in Firefox I'm not sure if this is a Firefox bug or a bug in some underlying infrastructure like xorg or video driver. [Bug 1600579] [NEW] zfsutils-linux scrub cron job fails
Public bug reported: The cron job for zfsutils-linux fails to run. The problem is that $PATH (on xenial, at least) is set to /bin:/usr/bin. The zpool binary is in /sbin and the /usr/lib/zfs-linux/scrub script (below) doesn't give the full path or modify $PATH. Further, the 2>&1 ensures that the useful error is sent to awk and not stderr where it'd be more easily noticed. The fix is to just s,zpool,/sbin/zpool, in the script. And probably remove the stderr redirection, since I'm not sure if it's actually useful here. This is the script as it currently is, for reference: #!/bin/sh -eu # Scrub all healthy pools. zpool list -H -o health, name 2>&1 | \ awk 'BEGIN {FS="\t"} {if ($1 ~ /^ONLINE/) print $2}' | \ while read pool do zpool scrub "$pool" done ** Affects: zfs-linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Description changed: The cron job for zfsutils-linux fails to run. [Bug 1600581] [NEW] rhythmbox segfault when scanning files, on non-media file
Public bug reported: rhythmbox crashes with segfault every time shortly after startup since my upgrade from ubuntu 15.10 to 16.04. This is while importing media files. My music library is in ~/Musik, Musik is a soft link to a directory on an encrypted partition. ~/Musik is set in the preferences, yet rhythmbox still looks at my whole file system. [Bug 1460458] Re: [system settings] Dual Sim; no possibility to switch on or off each sim card completely.

[Bug 1600595] [NEW] Ability to view and change minimized state through Activities Overview
Public bug reported: I find the Activities Overview very useful as especially when I have many windows open I can just easily go into it to switch between or close some. [Bug 1600599] [NEW] Thermald is totally broken, or its default configuration is
Public bug reported: ** WORKAROUND**: shut down the thermald process completely. If your computer has an actual physical cooling fan and it's fully functional, you don't need thermald at all. I have Ubuntu 15.10 up to date with automatic updates and I never touched thermald configuration. This is on a laptop, which has an actual physical cooling fan (like most laptops). EXPECTED BEHAVIOR: as the CPU temperature increases, the fan should spin faster to keep the temperature from getting too high. ONLY IF, even with the fan at its full capacity, or approaching it, the temperature keeps growing, THEN that's when powerclamp and things like that should trigger, throttling the CPU, so that it doesn't burn (or shut down abruptly). Also, these kinds of CPU throttling should come in gradually as needed. That is, if you inject idle processes, you should inject just the minimum amount that is needed. For example, if the fan at its maximum speed is *almost* enough to keep the temperature below the threshold, but not *quite* enough, injecting just a small amount of idle time into the CPU should be enough to do that extra bit of cooling that is needed. You would barely notice it. It would not slow your system down a lot, unless the heating is *way* higher than the fan alone can fight. On a fully functional system (where the fan is enough to prevent the CPU from overheating and/or excessive CPU consumption does not occur in a huge degree for a long time), you shouldn't note any difference by shutting down thermald completely. Only on a system where the fan is not fully functional and/or hugely excessive CPU usage goes on for too long (actually, if the latter alone is enough to make it happen, it means that the fan is underdimensioned) would you notice the difference between having thermald (powerclamp and other CPU throttling mechanisms would kick in and prevent the temperature from becoming critical) and not having it (temperature would eventually go critical and something bad would happen, such as a sudden shutdown) OBSERVED BEHAVIOR When CPU temperature becomes high due to relatively high (not huge) CPU consumption, intel_powerclamp starts to kick in injecting idle processes and crippling the whole system. The observable result is that the system becomes unresponsive and unusable, yet the physical fan is sponning at roughly HALF of its maximum speed. So, you have a fast quad core machine, with a cooling fan that is perfectly capable of keeping the temperature down while using all the computing power that you require, BUT since powerclamp and things like that kick in too soon, you are limited to use a tiny fraction of the power your machine is capable of. To put it another way: you can't watch a f***ing youtube video in full screen because the whole system will become unresponsive. Even after removing and blacklisting the intel_powerclamp and intel_rapl kernel modules, the apparent behavior was practically the same, except that I wouldn't observe the "kidle_inject" processes by running "top". I guess there are other CPU-throttling mechanisms besides powerclamp and rapl. So now I have SHUT DOWN THERMALD completely, and my system behaves NORMALLY. The fan, of course, reaches higher speeds. Not even _much_ higher, which means that it needed just a little bit more speed to keep up with the heating. Powerclamp and other cpu throttling mechanisms were kicking in WAY too soon. It took me quite a long time to figure out that this was the problem. I just assumed that some bug was causing excessive CPU consumption for trivial stuff such as playing video (which is actually true but is not the whole story) and that the CPU consumption actually was causing too much heat for the fan to dissipate, making it necessary for powerclamp to kick in. Also, I thought my fan was probably filled with dust and uncapable of doing its job efficiently (which is also true but is not the whole story). Until I realised that when I was observing unresponsiveness, the fan was not even close to its maximum speed. CONCLUSION: either thermald does a ridiculously bad job, or its default configuration is ridiculously bad. NOTE: this issue is **CRITICAL**: this cripples the whole system making it unresponsive when doing moderately heavy work (which the system would otherwise be perfectly capable of handling without overheating). Most non-geek users don't even know what thermald is and will never find out that they can work around the problem by shutting it down, let alone fix its configuration. So, for most users, this "renders the system temporarily or permanently unusable", which is one of the criteria for critical importance. This is indeed expected in such a case with the 'full' image. I'd be willing to try the got feature and apply to locate the fix. Can you provide more information on how to accomplish that? Re: [Bug 1599952] Re: i915 driver not supported in kernels after 4.2.x
Very well. I'll need to reinstall 14.04.4, as that is the only one I have that works. All of the 16.04 flavors run with unreadable displays. Let me know if that will be useful for you, and I'll do it today. RD On 07/09/2016 05:17 PM, Christopher M. [Bug 1577162] Re: Screens briefly blacks out at lightdm prompt
YS1, unfortunately you didn't follow all the instructions in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1577162/comments/2 and what it provided is useless. ** Attachment removed: "Dependencies.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1577162/+attachment/4698337/+files/Dependencies.txt ** Attachment removed: "JournalErrors.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1577162/+attachment/4698338/+files/JournalErrors.txt ** Attachment removed: "ProcEnviron.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1577162/+attachment/4698339/+files/ProcEnviron.txt ** Description changed: When I boot my laptop and get to the lightdm login prompt, the screen blacks out for a fraction of second. This happens each time, only once, and does not prevent logging in. In fact it is not only a display glitch : if I start to type my password before the blackout, the typed characters are lost when normal display resumes. So lightdm might be restarting. This is only mildly annoying, but I am also experiencing other graphical problems which may be or not be related (namely #1568604).
