[Bug 1544677] Re: webbrowser-app crashed with SIGABRT in base::debug::BreakDebugger()

2016-02-12 Thread Olivier Tilloy
Can you please add the webbrowser-app log file
(/home/phablet/.cache/upstart/application-legacy-webbrowser-app-.log) ?
Or alternatively run webbrowser-app from a terminal and paste the output here.

This looks similar to bug #1520537, the output of the browser would help
determine if it’s a duplicate.

[Bug 1543960] Re: virtual keyboard inserts endless "1" in text field

2016-02-12 Thread Smurphy
I actually did some more tests.
While paired with the Car unit, everything is fine (Note that I pair the phone
Handsfree and audio capability). When I power off the car unit and didn't
previously disable the pairing manually (Means the phone thinks it is still
paired), that behavior starts.
All text-fields will return repetitive 1 until the text-field size is reached
(Probably).
The car Device is a Alpine INE-W990BT
(http://www.alpine.co.uk/p/Products/navigation-systems6/ine-w990bt).
I have not yet tested disabling manually the Bluetooth from the phone while
connected to the car unit. Will do that (but can't garantee it will be this
week though -> On travel).

The text input components of the UITK does not force the focus to the

foces.

[Bug 1250668] Re: upstart session for dbus has hard coded .cache directory

2016-02-12 Thread Simon McVittie
As of dbus/1.10.6-1ubuntu2 (the relevant change seems to have been in
1.8.12-1ubuntu1), the Upstart job creates that directory but then
doesn't do anything with it, because the session bus address is now
stored in XDG_RUNTIME_DIR.

This is one of several ways in which the Upstart job is far more
complicated than it needs to be, for which I'll open a separate bug.

could you explain if you used a specific LVM setup. If /boot is on an
LVM then the LVM must be linear mapped in order to IPL from an
underlying device. If striping is used or other stuff, a separate /boot
must be used.

Thanks.

[Bug 1544060] Re: Wi-Fi settings to manage .crt or .cer certificates for eduroam wlans

2016-02-12 Thread Victor gonzalez
I think it should be supported but some BQ community users and me have
tested it in our nearest eduroam Wlans and it seems to be not working.
When I select the .crt or .cer certificate needed for my university in
wi-fi settings through the file manager it does not connect.

Here are 2 screenshots, one about the eduroam config and other about how
Wi-Fi setting shows the certificate after being imported from file
manager. Don't know if that's the expected behaviour and if that's what
should be shown.

Please let me know if ther's something you need to test or logs tho
gather.

[Bug 712702] Re: xfreerdp stops responding to keyboard input for no apparent reason

2016-02-12 Thread Hombibi
I realise this is an old bug, hopefully this is of help:

I run Xfreerdp on Ubuntu Gnome, X64, 15.10. I use xfreerdp to maintain
a rdp session to a Windows 10 machine, primarily in full screen mode.

Several times per day my keyboard becomes unresponsive, and/or the mouse
does not work or does only work on some parts of the screen. This is why
I think this might be the same bug.

When this happens I find that Ubuntu has generated a notification
message on the ubuntu desktop: Updates available, and mail notifications
mostly. It seems as if the focus is lost and can't be regained anymore.
I do see the terminal from where the rdp session was started react to
keyboard input though.

Most often CTRL+Enter does not work anymore when this happens, but if it
does it is enough to regain the focus. Otherwise CTRL+C will end the
session, and that mostly works.

[Bug 1250668] Re: upstart session for dbus has hard coded .cache directory

2016-02-12 Thread Simon McVittie
> far more complicated than it needs to be

That may have been overstating it; in the absence of systemd-style
socket activation, there's a limit to how much it can be simplified
without having things try to connect to dbus-daemon before it's running
:-(

[Bug 1544874] [NEW] dbus.user-session.upstart could avoid mktemp

2016-02-12 Thread Simon McVittie
Public bug reported:

While investigating a separate bug I happened to look at dbus.user-
session.upstart, and noticed that it is somewhat more complex than it
needs to be.

> pre-start script
> DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS=unix:abstract=$(mktemp -u /tmp/dbus-XX)
> initctl set-env DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS=$DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS
> end script
>
>
> exec dbus-daemon --fork --session --address="$DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS"

One obvious simplification you could use here would be to ask dbus-
daemon to listen on an arbitrarily selected abstract AF_UNIX address and
tell you which one it used. In principle libdbus could have a retry loop
to try multiple possibilities if the one it selects first is in use
(which this use of mktemp obviously won't do); at the moment it doesn't,
because the probability of a successful DoS by creating lots of abstract
sockets is low (approximately n in 3e15, where n is the number of
sockets created by an attacker), but I'd review a patch to dbus/dbus-
server-unix.c if someone wanted to add that retry loop.

That would look something like this (please interpret this as pseudocode
rather than a proposed patch, I don't actually know Upstart syntax):

exec script
# the default listening address is equivalent to
--address=unix:tmpdir=/tmp
dbus-daemon --fork --session --print-address=5
5>"$XDG_RUNTIME_DIR/dbus-session"
end script

post-start script
DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS="$(cat "$XDG_RUNTIME_DIR/dbus-session")"
initctl set-env --global
DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS="$DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS"
initctl notify-dbus-address "$DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS"
end script

which is already somewhat simpler. This would also have the advantage
that the advertised address would contain the bus's GUID like it does
with traditional dbus-launch, meaning that dbus_connection_open() would
work ().

However, since the current script only seems to support one dbus-daemon
per $XDG_RUNTIME_DIR anyway, there's little point in using mktemp or
unix:tmpdir: the job could instead force a specific address, like the
systemd unit in dbus-user-session does. Modern libdbus (1.10+) and GDBus
(2.45.3+) will try $XDG_RUNTIME_DIR/bus if there is no
DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS, so setting the DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS is
really only there to support reimplementations like dbus-sharp.

exec dbus-daemon --fork --session --address="unix:path=$XDG_RUNTIME_DIR/bus"
post-start initctl set-env --global
DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS="unix:path=$XDG_RUNTIME_DIR/bus"
post-start initctl notify-dbus-address "unix:path=$XDG_RUNTIME_DIR/bus"

(This could be combined with --print-address if you want to know the
full address with the guid.)

Or, if the intention is to support multiple login sessions per user-
session (see for terminology), the Upstart job could
force the bus to be "$XDG_RUNTIME_DIR/session-$XDG_SESSION_ID/bus" or
something.

[Bug 1544875] [NEW] unity8-dash flickers when changing modes

2016-02-12 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Public bug reported:

unity8-dash flickers when changing modes.

On my desktop (for some unknown reason) I only have three icons in the
dash, so regardless of the current mode they always all fit into the
dash window. When I switch from "All" to "Communication" and back
though, I see a frame or so of flickering particularly under the orange
Ubuntu Store icon.

During the brief flicker, the "A" icon is stretched horizontally, and
then quickly resolves itself.

Is this related to bug 1532974?

[Bug 1479344] Re: Ubuntu Installer makes /boot partition too small on encrypted lvm setup

2016-02-12 Thread Jarno Suni
/boot partition is big enough to contain few kernels. Even a bigger /boot would
become full, if old unused kernels are never removed, and new kernel updates
keep coming. Some people may want to install kernels from more than one series;
e.g. they install linux-image-generic-lts-wily to experiment on newer kernels
on Trusty. Or they may want to install manually some upstream kernels
(https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds?action=show&redirect=KernelMainlineBuilds)
The question is how big is adequate /boot?

[Bug 1543349] Re: upgrade php-memcache for PHP7.0

2016-02-12 Thread Steve Langasek
Grabbed the php-memcache package from the ppa; feedback:
 - you have labelled this package as '3.0.9'. However there is no upstream
release 3.0.9 that I can find. If it has been released, please point me to it.
If not, we should not use this version number on upstream's behalf. (For my
testing, I used 3.0.8+20151130.fdbd46b, which corresponds to the current git
commit.)
 - the contents of the orig.tar.gz unpack into a memcache-3.0.8 subdirectory,
which reinforces the belief that this is not a new upstream release; you then
apply a diff from debian/patches that completely removes the contents of
memcache-3.0.8 and replaces them with a memcache-3.0.9 directory. This is
awkward. If we are going to bump the upstream version number at all then the
orig.tar.gz should contain the actual sources for that version; if we're not
going to bump it then debian/patches should apply in place, not replacing one
subdirectory with another. (the latter implies not updating the version string
i package.xml.)
- your description of the process to create the new source package is somewhat
incomplete; there are references to php5 in the debian/php5* files that also
need to be changed. That's fine, easily figured out and you've done this in
your version of the package.
- the build dependencies listed for this package are all satisfied at present
in xenial, but building with the modified source package against the xenial
versions of the build-deps yields an empty package containing no .so. So it
appears newer versions of php-pear and/or pkg-php-tools are required before
this package can be built. It is preferable to express this as a versioned
build-dependency, so that we avoid accidental misbuilds.

I'll attach the source package I've generated here. Please review it
and let me know if I've made any mistakes.

[Bug 1544880] [NEW] video fullscreen playback emits keys (control/key sequences) into current foreground window

2016-02-12 Thread Martin Weis
Public bug reported:

Playing a video in full-screen mode (html5) emits keys into foreground ("ghost
keyboard" inputs).
These key sequences affect the currently selected/foregrounded Window, e.g. the
goneme-terminal flickers the text up and down, changes window focus and inputs
control characters scrambling the typed commandline.
Controlled typing on the commandline is nearly impossible this way, text is
garbled (see screenshot attachment).
Pausing the video stops this behaviour.
This happens on a fresh profile without any extensions/addons.

example youtube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JHEHPRDVEp4

I logged the keys with
xev 2>&1|while /bin/true ; do read ans; echo $ans;date -Ins ;done >
/tmp/xev.timestamped.log

and add the output here as attachment. From the log it seems to be these
type of repeating sequences (disregard beginning and end of file, since
it is mouse over xev movements):

[Bug 1544878] [NEW] Mir servers crash if I press the side mouse button (thumb)

2016-02-12 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Public bug reported:

Mir servers crash if I press the side mouse button (thumb).

There are two of them on the side of my Intellimouse Explorer 3.0. The
kernel calls them BTN_SIDE and BTN_EXTRA. And X calls them buttons 8 and
9.

When the crash happens I see in unity8.log:

[1455268365.782990] MirSurfaceAPI: Caught exception at client library
boundary (in mir_surface_release):

 >
std::exception::what: Failed to send message to server: Broken pipe
32, "Broken pipe"
*** Error in `unity8': free(): invalid size: 0x7fcb4c03fe90 ***

Also happens with the Mir demo servers; they segfault but without a
usable stack trace due to exception handling.

[Bug 1541629] Re: Lenovo IdeaCentre Q190 Won't Boot linux-image-3.13.0-77-generic 3.13.0-77.121

2016-02-12 Thread Lonnie Lee Best
Before trying the latest kernel, I attempted to boot from Ubuntu 16.04's
daily build via USB, and it booted kernel 4.4.0-2generic #16-Ubuntu just
fine.

After this, I attempted to boot the system again with Ubuntu 14.04's latest
kernel:
3.13.0-77-generic #121-Ubuntu SMP Wed Jan 20 10:50:42 UTC 2016 x86_64 x86_64
x86_64 GNU/Linux

This is the one I had previous said did not work. However, it now
works!?

I cannot explain why 3.13.0-77 had kernel panics messages in my previous
boot-failures, but it is booting fine now.

I've got a ChromeBook that boots with "i915.modeset=1" kernel

For more or the modeset option, see

[Bug 1488719] Re: dmesg shows "[drm:gen8_irq_handler [i915]] *ERROR* The master control interrupt lied (SDE)!"

2016-02-12 Thread darkhawk
I'm not sure, but sometimes you can cheat with your system.

Example:

1.) working with your dual monitor
2.) lock your desktop (windows key and l for example)
3.) you see both external monitors locked
4.) wait sometime and they go to power safe mode
5.) coming back, press a key and see that only one monitor is available...the
other one is still in power safe mode
6.) press STRG+ALT and 2 (or 3 or any other number with a terminal assigned)
7.) see a lot of drm:gen8_irq_handler error messages
8.) wait a moment and the other monitor which was/is in power safe mode will
power up and showing up the same errors
9.) now yo back to your graphical UI (most of times STRG+ALT + 7)
10.) you might see that both screens are working again in dual mode...

I did this now for a lot of times (because setting the display settings
up again sucks)

I had luck with the following. It removed all of the dmesg's except one:

   $ uname -a
   Linux qotom 3.19.0-49-generic ...

$ sudo lspci | grep -is vga
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation
   Broadwell-U Integrated Graphics (rev 09)

And then use the "00:02.0":

   $ sudo cat /etc/rc.local
   #!/bin/sh -e
   # ...
   # By default this script does nothing.

   setpci -s 00:02.0 F4.B=30

   exit 0

[Bug 1544904] [NEW] Updating 15.10 to 16.04 alpha2 failed: subprocess exit status 127

2016-02-12 Thread Hadmut Danisch
Public bug reported:

Hi,

just some testing feedback:

I yesterday tried to update a Xubuntu 15.10 64bit (latest update status)
to 16.04 alpha2 with update-manager -d, which went wrong and aborted
(not a problem, was just a virtual testing machine and I made a
snapshot before upgrading, can jump back to the state before updating
with a mouse click).

Within the upgrade process, several packages failed and complained like

got an error from dpkg for pkg: 'install-info': 'subprocess installed
post-installation script returned an error exit status 127'

Lots of these messages, also for gconf2, util-linux, initscripts, sgml-base,
systemd, systemd-sysv, e2fsprogs, hostname,...

Unfortunately, no further details, not even in the upgrade logs, just lots of
messages like this, just with different package names.

These problems (seems to be the same problem for all) caused an avalanche of
uninstallable packages due to dependencies, and finally caused update-manager
to abort half-way. Especially systemd could not be properly installed. Now I
have a (more or less) running system somewhere in the middle between 15.10 and
16.04. (I mean: Wow. Which OS would still boot and work in important aspect
when stuck in the middle of an upgrade?)

However: As far as I can see there is a single problem causing this exit
status 127, common in many post-installation scripts, which makes the
upgrade process crash completely.

regards

[Bug 1541629] Re: Lenovo IdeaCentre Q190 Won't Boot linux-image-3.13.0-77-generic 3.13.0-77.121

** Description changed:

  I have Ubuntu Server 14.04 64bit installed on a Lenovo IdeaCentre Q190.

The last kernel I could successfully boot was this one:
    linux-image-3.13.0-74-generic 3.13.0-74.118

However, with sudo apt-get upgrade, the following kernels have been released
(and I've installed them) but they will NOT boot:
  1) linux-image-3.13.0-76-generic 3.13.0-76.120
  2) linux-image-3.13.0-77-generic 3.13.0-77.121

Unfortunately, in order to generate this bug report, I had to boot from
an earlier kernel, so the kernel actually specified in the generated-
bug-report is the one that actually works; I couldn't figure out how to
generate the bug using one of the bad kernels enumerated above.

As you can see below, numerous kernels have been installed overtime, but
the two enumerated above (the latest ones) do NOT boot the Lenovo
  IdeaCentre Q190.
