I love Ubuntu and i want it should stable , stability and defect-less(no

thanks for sharing workaround,i will use this until this bug will get

[Bug 1450338] [NEW] Keyboard shortcuts that use windows key do not work

2015-04-30 Thread Hubert depesz Lubaczewski
Public bug reported:

I installed KUbuntu 15.04 on fresh system, and noticed that when I make
a session, and assign keyboard shortcut to run this session (like ctrl-
shift-t runs new "Shell') - it works, as long as the shortcut doesn't
use windows key.

I can enter such shortcut, and it's displayed correctly as "Meta+M" (for
example), but upon pressing windows-m, I'm getting some control
characters sent to terminal, and not new tab opened with defined
session.

It looks, that (at least for meta-m) the generated sequence is:
"ctrl-x", "@", "s", "m".

[Bug 1450043] Re: spice package for trusty contains a malformed patch

2015-04-30 Thread Robie Basak
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

> This is fixed in later releases by removing the specific patch, but it
would be useful for the Trusty package to be fixed.

Why? What is the impact to Trusty users?

To update a package in Trusty the procedure is documented at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates#Procedure. I'm not yet
convinced that the fix you proposed is justified under the SRU policy
(documented elsewhere in that page) but if you think otherwise then you
could proceed by beginning the documentation part of the procedure which
is a requirement for doing the update anyway.

[Bug 1450343] [NEW] dovecot version upgrade

2015-04-30 Thread tmoehle
Public bug reported:

I just installed Ubuntu 15.04 and was sad to see, that dovecot is still
on version 2.2.09. The current version 2.2.16 contains some security
relevant features, such as ssl encrypted LMTP sessions, which is
important if your SMTP and IMAP servers are not running on the same
physical computer. LMTP encryption was introduced in 2.2.11 (iirc), so
it would be nice if this package could become an upgrade (since it
didn't get one since 14.04).

[Bug 1450300] Re: following ubuntu documentation and caching server will not work

2015-04-30 Thread Robie Basak
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

It seems highly unlikely to me that there is a bug in bind9 in the
common case here, since 14.04 has been out long enough that we would
have had many more bug reports by now if this were the case.

Since it seems likely to me that this is a local configuration problem,
rather than a bug in Ubuntu, I'm marking this bug as Incomplete.

If indeed this is a local configuration problem, you can find pointers
to get help for this sort of problem here:
http://www.ubuntu.com/support/community

If there is a bug in the documentation, then you need to specify what
documentation you followed so that we can direct the bug accordingly.

Or if you believe that this is really a bug in Ubuntu, then you may find
it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem,
explain why you believe this is a bug in Ubuntu rather than a problem
specific to your system, and then change the bug status back to New.

Support for EFI boot is in progress; see

[Bug 1449910] Re: System hangs apparently randomly when creating LVM snapshots

2015-04-30 Thread Roberto
Thank you Joseph for your answer. I guess I should test the 4.1 kernel
which can be found at the link you provided. I'll do this next Monday,
just keep in mind that, being the problem apparently random, one should
wait some time before drawing conclusions (I'll say one month without
hangs, doing snapshots every night, to be sufficiently sure).

[Bug 1448407] Re: icons size issues in Nautilus

2015-04-30 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Ok, what is weird is that your screenshot looks like icons on 100% zoom
on my laptop, but maybe it's due to the scaling. Here they look a bit
too big with a set up in zooms.

The way icons works is that the code looks for matches in the different
theme directory (the index.theme has an Inherit= key which lists other
themes to use), so e.g the ubuntu-mono themes inherits from Humanity,
GNOME, hicolor, so the code is looking in all of those. Also if the
exact name is not found, it fallback to more generic ones ("application-
vnd.oasis.opendocument.text.png/svg" is tried first, then it tries
"application-vnd.oasis.opendocument" then "application-vnd.oasis", etc)

It's likely that some of the icons are lacking at specific sizes in the
theme

[Bug 1325801] Re: failed to boot from USB disk with error: gfxboot.c32: not a COM32R Image boot:

2015-04-30 Thread sudodus
I tried also from a live session of Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS booted from

ubuntu-14.04.2-desktop-amd64.iso

where I made the proposed repository available and installed usb-
creator-gtk from it. 'Nothing else' was changed from the content of the
iso file.

It still fails to install the bootloader and exits with the same message
window (as when trying in the installed system),

"Failed to install the bootloader.

2015-04-30 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Reviewing your log files attached to this bug report it
seems that there is a problem with your installation media (CD/DVD).
You can verify the integrity of the Ubuntu ISO files you downloaded by
following the instructions at
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM. You might also retry
your installation with new media. In the event that is is not in fact
an error with your installation media please set the bug's status back
to New. Thanks and good luck!

[Bug 1450355] Re: statically linking libpthread is problematic

2015-04-30 Thread junyer
Note that the second case hung and thus required me to hit Ctrl-C.

The proximate cause seems to be that the TID (Thread ID) in the TLS
(Thread-Local Storage) is not initialised properly:

1. The first pthread_rwlock_wrlock() call sets __writer to the TID, which is 0.
2. The first pthread_rwlock_unlock() call thinks that we had a reader lock
because __writer is 0, so it decrements __nr_readers from 0 to 4294967295.
3. The second pthread_rwlock_wrlock() call hangs because it's waiting forever
to be woken by a reader that never existed.

[Bug 1390520] Re: virtual machine fails to start with connected audio cd

2015-04-30 Thread Serge Hallyn
sorry I don't have access to any machines that actually have a cd drive.

But, earlier you had said that VMs could not boot when an audio cd was
inserted. When you now say that you cannot play an audio-cd, do you
mean on the host or inside a VM? Do you have /dev/cdrom as a symbolic
link to /dev/sr0?

[Bug 1450306] Re: CONFIG_USB_OTG=y again in 14.04LTS causing issues in OTG devices

2015-04-30 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1450306/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[Bug 1450355] Re: statically linking libpthread is problematic

2015-04-30 Thread junyer
Note that the third case worked because the use of `-Wl,--whole-archive
-lpthread -Wl,--no-whole-archive' is a workaround that evidently results
in the TLS (Thread-Local Storage) being initialised properly.

The root cause of this bug is currently uncertain, but
https://gcc.gnu.org/ml/gcc-help/2010-05/msg00029.html could be relevant.

[Bug 1445540] Re: GTK draws its own (double) window decorations under Mir

2015-04-30 Thread Lars Uebernickel
Many gtk applications are moving towards client side decorations in
order to put widgets into their title bars. We'd like to stop patching
them (upstream or downstream) with the move to Mir and Unity 8, as that
is a break in design anyways and many of the newly designed default
applications will use client side decorations as well.

Do we really still need the csd/ssd duality or could we just let all
apps draw their decorations themselves?

[Bug 1445540] Re: GTK draws its own (double) window decorations under Mir

2015-04-30 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Sure Mir will/should support client-side decorations.

The best suggestion I have right now is:
  1. You set mir_surface_type_freestyle
  2. Wait for Mir shells to honour the surface type and not wrap extra
decorations around it.

In future we might have some additional attribute you could set for
client-side decorations instead of mir_surface_type_freestyle. Not
sure...

[Bug 1445540] Re: GTK draws its own (double) window decorations under Mir

2015-04-30 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Clarification: By decorations I mean the "physical" window extents and
not shadows.

AFAIK we have no plan to allow for client-side shadows (ie. rendering
beyond the physical snapping extents of the window).

Of course Mir can't know if you're painting shadows or not. Just your
window placement will look wrong if you do that bit yourself.

Server-side shadows will look more consistent (in size and gradient) and
allow us to do proper 3D shadows in future too.

[Bug 1426489] Re: fglrx-core 2:14.501-0ubuntu1: fglrx-core kernel module failed to build [error: implicit declaration of function ‘__get_cpu_var’ ]

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer/+bug/1276379/comments/41
(and sorry for my poor english, I can't edit that comment and correct my
errors).

However, it's the same for 15.04: you cannot install fglrx drivers because AMD
dropped support for the Radeon HD 2xxx, 3xxx and 4xxx cards.
If you want to use proprietary drivers, they work only on Ubuntu 12.04.1
(kernel linux 3.2), but with an old version (Catalyst 13.1).

If you want to use Ubuntu 14.04 LTS or 15.04, you have to use the open Radeon
drivers (preinstalled in Ubuntu).
Hope to help.

[Bug 1247933] Re: unable to persist bootloader id

2015-04-30 Thread Lukas
grub-install, at least on 14.04 and 15.04, seems to hardcode the path
"EFI/ubuntu" into all secureboot images. This has the effect that
regardless of the boot entry that is selected in the EFI interface, grub
always reads (ESP)/EFI/ubuntu/grub.cfg and continues to boot from the
volume referenced there.

The binary /EFI//grubx64.efi always contains the
hardcoded string "EFI/ubuntu", which seems to be covered by canonical's
signature and thus unchangeable.

If secure boot is deactivated, editing the grubx64.efi binary to reflect
the correct path fixes the issue for me; i.e. if the bootloader is in
EFI/mysecondubuntu, change EFI/ubunt2/grubx64.efi so that the string
"EFI/ubuntu" becomes "EFI/ubunt2" (better keep the length the same in
order to not break the binary alignment). This only works with secure
boot disabled in the firmware; otherwise the signature becomes invalid.

However, when grub-install is invoked using --no-uefi-secure-boot, it
gets even more confusing: grubx64.efi doesn't contain the hardcoded
string anymore, but it seems as if grub.cfg is not even considered
anymore – grub directly continues to boot from some hardcoded boot
volume which I am unable to modify!

All of this makes it almost impossible to install two versions of Ubuntu
on a single machine.

[Bug 1450383] [NEW] doesn't cope with corrupted SSH key files

2015-04-30 Thread Loïc Minier
Public bug reported:

Hi,

when cloud-init starts on snappy for the first time, it will generate
host SSH keys. If power is removed after this point, fsck might replace
this uncommitted data by zero files, in which case it's impossible to
login to the system.

A workaround would be to flush/sync data to disk after writing the
files, but I guess the root cause fix would be to check on each boot if
the files were successfully written in full or otherwise regenerate
them.

Cheers,

I just applied the latest updates to 14.04, and this error still occurs.
So the 331-updates variant is still broken.

[Bug 1261916] Re: Missing letters in spice client session with KVM guest

2015-04-30 Thread Fabian Kantereit
I could reproduce the error on a Debian based qemu-kvm host, running a
Lubuntu guest with qxl/spice. After increasing the resolution several
letter disappeared from the LXDE menu (e.g. w, u, p).

However, I could work around the Issue by deactivating text anti-
aliasing in LXDE.
