[Bug 808464] Re: [needs-packaging] diodon -- Clipboard manager for GNOME and Unity

2013-01-09 Thread Benjamin Drung
Ubuntu follows the DFSG rules, too. Therefore the same rules apply
whether we accept a package in Ubuntu or not.

The problem with waf (besides upstream being hostile against packaging
it) is shipping a waf script containing a binary blob. The solution is
to replace the waf script with a blob by the (bigger) waf source code
script (which is fully editable).

The Vcs-Bzr and Vcs-Browser links should point to the packaging
branches. I think the ubuntu:dioden branch should be used (once it's in
the archive) and therefore the Vcs-* entries should be removed.

Just a personal remark: Do you have a reason to use cdbs? IMO, the short
format dh (version 9) is better than cdbs.

Changing the balance in the Audio panel of the gnome-control-center is not
saved in gconf or whereever.
Or After a reboot the balance is not restored. The audio balance is set again
to its default 50/50 value.

The balance should stay by the value set forever until changed again.

[Bug 1097960] [NEW] Elantech clickpad tap fluctuations on Asus UX31A

2013-01-09 Thread vckbarth
Public bug reported:

Very often clickpad use to not detect taps (then I have to tap several times to
make things done). Another time clickpad thinks somehow that single tap was
already done (without any actions/touching on the device) and when I'm trying
to move cursor (with single tap), device treats this like double tap (then I'm
grabbing the icon
witch I don't want to grab or marking text witch I don't want to mark).

This issue can be reduced by setting "Synaptics Tap FastTap" to 1. But the bug
still exists.

This was tested on kernel versions: 3.5.0-18 and 3.7.x. Ubuntu 12.10.
Asus UX31A.

I've attached file witch contains print from the "xinput --list-props 12"
command.
I've recently added this bug to kernel bugzilla because I don't know is this
xorg-synaptics issue or elantech driver issue

[Bug 1097932] Re: [Lenovo e335] - After suspend with FGLRX or WITHOUT - The system loses primary display.

2013-01-09 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v3.8 kernel[0] (Not a kernel in the daily directory) and install both
the linux-image and linux-image-extra .deb packages.

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot,
please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as
"Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

[Bug 1097964] [NEW] baobab doesn't respect FS boundaries with ZFS

2013-01-09 Thread Jim Salter
Public bug reported:

With ZFS volumes mounted to /data and /backup (using the zfs-native
PPA), baobab incorrectly reports my root FS as full - actually, way,
way, WAY over full, as the root filesystem is 20G but /data and /backup
have over 100G of stuff in them.

I am filing this as a baobab bug, not a zfs-native bug, because du -xhd
1 / | grep G | sort -n produces the expected results:

me@box:~$ sudo du -hxd 1 / | grep G | sort -n
2.0G /usr
2.0G /var
3.8G /iso
8.4G /

Since du produces correct results but baobab lumps the ZFS volumes
incorrectly in as part of the root filesystem, I figure it's probably a
baobab bug.

[Bug 1097963] [NEW] typing+cursor movement does not obey sort order

2013-01-09 Thread Humphrey van Polanen Petel
Public bug reported:

Expected behavoir:
Directories and files are sorted alphabetically.
Typing a 't' will place the highlight at the first occurrence of a directory or
file that starts with a 't'.
Moving the cursor then down typically moves the highlight to the next such
occurrence if that exists.

Observed behavior:
Given the following list of directories (as they appear on my system)
..
System
Texts
_Thesis
Topics
Ugrad
..
Typing a 't' correctly places the highlight on "Texts", but moving the cursor
down incorrectly places the highlight on "Topics" instead of the next entry
"_Thesis".

[Bug 919801] Re: Unity dash file search is extremely slow

2013-01-09 Thread Jan Rathmann
I have run into the same bug during the last months on Quantal. For
quite some time I wondered whether it is normal that searching for files
in the dash takes so long. After applying Doughy's hint to delete
~/.local/share/zeitgeist the dash file search has become much faster, so
that helped als workaround for that bug.

Kind regards,
Jan

Please add DEP-3 tags to the 7-CVE-2011-1716.patch file to document the
patch provenance. The guidelines are available at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PackagingGuide/PatchSystems#Patch_Tagging_Guidelines
.

The version number increase looked good to me.

Some of the patches in the series after 7-CVE-2011-1716.patch apply with
fuzz; did they apply with fuzz before your patch? Was there a reason to
apply this patch at the head of the series?

Please resubscribe ubuntu-security-sponsors and set the status to 'NEW'

Thank you

[Bug 1069112] Re: [regression-r3320] Animations and modules/plugins missing in Ubuntu 12.10 and 13.04

2013-01-09 Thread MC Return
** Description changed:

  Original report:
+

Upon upgrading to Ubuntu 12.10 and setting compiz up with CCSM, I
noticed that the animations like "Flame" are missing and there are no
modules for Animations Add-on, Cube Deformation and Reflection, Cube
Gears, Reflection and others. I rechecked to find that compiz-plugins-
extra is installed, and even reinstalled it to be sure. All compiz
components list as 9.8.4 in Synaptic. So, all compiz modules are
installed, yet the extras do not appear to be loading or running. I
attached an image of the the applicable CCSM panels.

+
  Note:
+ =

  * Currently broken and excluded from compilation: animationaddon,
- bicubic, blur, colorfilter, cubeaddon, gears, group, loginout, reflex,
- thumbnail, stackswitch, wallpaper and trip
+ bicubic, blur, colorfilter, gears, group, loginout, reflex, thumbnail,
+ stackswitch and trip

  * Currently not working correctly (but enabled, compiled and available):
- firepaint, showmouse, td (3d windows for the cube)
+ td (3d windows for the cube)

  * Also not working anymore: All the plugins from the unsupported
package/Compiz git repo.
I will only list the most important ones here:

animationjc, extra-animations, simple animations - Great additional
  animations

screensaver - Uses the cube or flying windows as screensaver

freewins - Freely transformable windows (great plug-in with potential to
  crash Compiz though)

atlantis - Cube Atlantis, a Compiz classic

- wizard - Wastes system resources by displaying a lot of wild particles

[Bug 1097969] [NEW] Remina Remote Desktop Client cannot be minimized from fullscreen

2013-01-09 Thread Josh
Public bug reported:

OS: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS

Today Ubuntu installed a bunch of updates.

Subsequently, if a connection is established using Remina in full screen
mode the application cannot be minimized.

Replication steps:

. Launch Remmina.
. Connect to a remote desktop session using RDP protocol.
. Move the mouse pointer to the top center of the display to drop down the
toolbar.
. Click the minimize button.

The "minimize window" animation is displayed but the screen does not
change.

Remmina is now in a broken state. It can neither be interacted with nor
can it be closed, minimized or otherwise manipulated.

Workaround: Alt-tab displays the desktop.

[Bug 1090289] Re: Commands with backslashes are making troubles

2013-01-09 Thread James Hunt
Thanks for reporting. This looks like a subtle parsing issue.

A work-around is to put the entire command within a script stanza like
this:

script
exec find / ! -size 0 -regex '.*\.sqlite3?$' -type f -exec sqlite3 {} VACUUM \;
end script

[Bug 887793] Re: Kworker constantly taking about 100% CPU

2013-01-09 Thread Scott Deagan
@Mauro - Did you run sudo update-grub2 after you made the change to
/etc/default/grub? Did you include acpi=noirq inside the double
quotation marks, like so:

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash acpi=noirq"

The model of my Chronos 7 is: NP700Z7C-S02UK, and I'm using Ubuntu
12.10. I had installed all updates before implementing the above
workaround/fix.

[Bug 1092715] Re: udevadm trigger --action=change not working in quantal and raring

2013-01-09 Thread Serge Hallyn
The cause of the problem is simply the udev-acl call in 70-udev-
acl.rules. Since this is a higher # rule than 40-qemu-kvm.rules, it
gets run after.

The problem can be solved by:

1. moving 40-qemu-kvm.rules to 72-qemu-kvm.rules
2. making qemu-kvm depend on acl
3. appending RUN+="/usr/bin/setfacl -m g::rw /dev/kvm" to 72-qemu-kvm.rules.

Just a short note: I somehow produced a backported *.deb for 1.3.0 and
i managed to recompile the debs of 1.1.2 and 1.0 from debian backports
with "--enable-trace-backend=simple". The problematic box runs Debian
Squeeze with Kernel 3.2.35 (and some other packages) from backports.

Tomorrow evening i'm going to make test runs on the system. I'll keep
you posted.

[Bug 1084054] Re: Denial of service via crafted PNG file

2013-01-09 Thread Seth Arnold
Benjamin, thanks for working on this issue.

However, the security-sponsors process is intended to get security fixes
into the stable releases; upgrading vlc in its entirety from 2.0.3 or
2.0.4 to 2.0.5, with all the other unrelated changes that are included,
would be better handled through the SRU process:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates

If you do not wish to do the SRU, you could prepare a smaller patch that
addresses only specific security issues. This could result in a debdiff
of reasonable size, one that facilities review of the changes.

I have unsubscribed ubuntu-security-sponsors; please re-subscribe
ubuntu-security-sponsors once a debdiff is available for review.

Thank you

[Bug 1097976] [NEW] Encrypted filesystem password prompt is ugly and doesn't fit display on boot

2013-01-09 Thread Josh
Public bug reported:

After a recent round of updates the password prompt to unlock encrypted
disks has multiple problems:

1. The prompt that shows the name of the disk being unlocked pushes the
prompt off the edge of the screen so it says:

"king the disk [volume path which runs off the right side of the screen]

2. If the pass-phrase is took long the number of stars typed stops
incrementing because the stars no longer fit into the pretty little
rounded window allotted to them.

Example of Microsoft Word 97 .doc file that won't open. This is a simple small
text file (very old press release). Was converted years ago from original Word
Perfect file.

Problem description: LibreOffice 3.6.3.2. including the latest version
3.4.1 cannot open some MS Word 97 .doc files. It produces the error
"Read Error: not a winword97 file".

Steps to reproduce:
1. Double click on a Word 97 file that won't open. (Lots do but some don't)
2. LibO Writer will wait then produce the above error message.
3. Click OK on the error message and the file will not open.

Current behavior: The 3.6.3.2 and the latest 3.4 version won't open
some MS Word 97 .doc files.

Expected behavior: All MS Word 97 .doc files should be opened.

Operating System: Mac OS X
Last worked in: 3.5.5.3 release

[Bug 1097989] [NEW] Firefox poor memory management in live editions

2013-01-09 Thread Bill777
Public bug reported:

This has been affecting my systems for some long time now, but it is not
immediately clear who should own the problem, between linux itself, the distro,
the Live concept, the filesystem used by Live editions, or firefox (as amended).
It is further complicated by the misbehaviour of Flash within its
plugin-container, which is not simply memory leakage but seems to get into lock
contention sometimes at quite low memory use.

I am of the view it's primarily a Firefox problem, because it is Firefox
that is allocating memory to itself, and it could be obviated by
altering the Firefox memory-grab allocation procedures - but there is a
relatively complex interaction.

Specifically, it has continued through to FF 16 in my certain experience, but
started ages ago.
The symptoms are similar to early & not well-formed bug/3677.
At one point I thought it was due to the aufs filesystem, but it continues
unabated.

It may exend to the installed system too, but I haven't actually
installed for some time.

Symptoms.
###
I'm using a fairly capable recent laptop with over 3Gb enough of RAM.
There is an ample (and fast) HDD swap file.
Setting swappiness low does not seem to alter much.
Moving FF cache to disc does not make discernable difference.
The problem has affected other distros, but could well be solved here.
It occurs with a raw Firefox, no addons. In fact, it is worse without
extensions such as adblockplus & flashblock, which reduce consumed memory.

Using a live DVD edition for an extended time, after building up a number of
tabs with plenty of content, first Firefox, & then the whole system becomes
sluggish.
It goes on to have petit-mal seizures, ignoring all attempts of the actual
attendant computer-owner to intervene.
No reaction to mouse or keyboard. Very frustrating & time-wasting, inefficient.
Sometime for many minutes, one cannot even get ctrl+alt+f1 to work, or to get
>top or >vmstat, or >free to display.
Occasionally, a hard "off" & start again, is the only solution.

This hïatus is accompanied by a great deal of clattering from the live
DVD, which seems to be going round in circles (the illogical process, as
well as the DVD). Such thrashing would be less apparent with a silent
system, installed HDD or flash drive, but I surmise that the same
inefficiency would be going on unheard, just that it would be hidden,
only manifesting as sluggishness.

Just to discount one set of objections:
Some might say that live editions are not for extended use. This is very true
with an improperly conditioned cows filesystem, since it fills up & locks
solid, with no way out. However, I see no reason why a live edition should not
be fully usable, if slightly slower. If anyone has agood non-bs argument
to the contrary, I have yet to hear it.

In some cases
>vmstat, when it can be invoked, shows a fair amount of out-swapping,
>indicating some resource distress.
This is a clue.

In many cases, if there is an instance of plugin-container, to pkill it will
release resources & free up operations.
That's a slightly separate issue, but I do note that it is not simply a case of
memory leak un-freed allocation, since even at low plugin- memory levels, the
killing of plugin-container still causes release. In fact, it helps to kill
plugin-containe even if it is not visible at the head of >top.
Without much hard evidence, I suspect an interlock condition or resource
contention.
But this is a subset of the main problem.

What also seems to go on is that as time & usage goes on, Firefox tires & gets
more sluggish, almost as if it was written by Windows programmers. That could
be the effect of buggy websites, but FF should be resilient to that.
A restart seems to clear the decks. Use of about:memory to CC or GC has little
effect, indeed I've known CG to crash the instance of FF after a fair locked-up
wait. (More resource contention, and possibly a problem with FF/kernel
interfacing.)
A restart should not ideally be necessary.

What also seems to happen, is that unused web-page memory is not swapped out as
it might be, but seems to be locked in core. I'm not sure this is absolute.
This may have been done for security/privacy reasons, but it would be a great
help if such unused, un-focused memory were not taking up useful RAM.
SUGGESTION--> One might address the privacy/security problem, where swap is
allocated, by encrypting the swap.

Conjecture
+
We know that FF in its memory-hog incarnation grabs all the memory it can.
We hear this is "efficient use of resources", and not theft at all.

SUGGESTION(gripe)--> If it were polite, it would at least ~ask~ at some
stage; it might present the beleaguered actual owner of the RAM with an
option to limit its memory-grabbing ambitions, to allow the user to
decide how much resource to concede.

After all, we the user might wish to have some free memory spare to load
some other programmmes alongside, occas

[Bug 1097993] [NEW] Multiarch support for equivs

2013-01-09 Thread Wookey
Public bug reported:

Equivs cannot currently make packages with the Multi-Arch header. This
trival patch fixes that.

This header is important and should definitely be included in equivs-
generated packaged when desired. It is necessary in order to, for
example, make library packages for cross-toolchains where the toolchain
libraries are not fully multiarched (which is the state for current
Ubuntu cross-toolchains).

The patch also sets the Multi-Arch: foreign header for this packae so
that cross-architecture dependency resolution will work correctly.

[Bug 1097991] [NEW] Port to new barrier event API

2013-01-09 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
Public bug reported:

The pointer barrier event API we've patched in to libXfixes has moved
upstream in Xserver 1.14. However, the API has changed.

The barrier events and pointer release API is now in the input lib,
libXi as of version 1.6.99.1 . It should be reasonably easy to port to
the new API: Peter Hutterer's blog post¹ describes how to use it. The
main differences are that you need to add the barrier event mask to the
XI event mask, rather than window event mask, and that it now uses
generic events, so you need to allocate the event data before using it
and free the event data after using it XGetEventData/XFreeEventData.

[Bug 1097991] Re: Port to new barrier event API

2013-01-09 Thread Bryce Harrington
Plan of record for raring is to ship xserver 1.14, so fixing this is
necessary to avoid a regression in Unity when we introduce 1.14.

1.14 is scheduled for March, with rc releases leading up to that. I'd
like to see us include a 1.14 rc or git snapshot in early February so we
have adequate testing time.

[Bug 808464] Re: [needs-packaging] diodon -- Clipboard manager for GNOME and Unity

2013-01-09 Thread Dmitrijs Ledkovs
Currently Ubuntu archive has 5 packages which have waf binary.
While ftp-masters rejected such upload in Debian, it does not necessary a
requirement in Ubuntu.
After all waf binary self-produces it's own source code on execution and hence
is always available.

[Bug 1041790] Re: [sandybridge-m-gt2] GPU lockup IPEHR: 0x0b160001 IPEHR: 0x0b140001

2013-01-09 Thread Rocko
I've seen it happen with kernel 3.8-rc2 and SNA using the latest intel
driver from git.

The hang isn't always the same:

* Sometimes it locks the computer up completely, requiring a hard
reboot.

* Sometimes it locks X, but CTRL-ALT-F1 and back unlocks it.

* Sometimes it resolves itself without me even noticing that it has
happened, other than that there may be some corruption in the tabs'
title text in chrome and window movement has become somewhat jerky
instead of the normal smooth movement you get after restarting X.

Next time it happens I'll see if I can recover any information.

[Bug 1097118] Re: Unity using 100% CPU, desktop frozen

2013-01-09 Thread Dody
This bug is not present in vanilla 12.04. But as Ubuntu suggest me to do
some update (NOT my initiative). And AGAIN, the updated packages are
probably NEWER than the packages in 12.10. Downloading images is
painfull for me, as I'm living in developing country with 1 GB internet
quota and speed of 10-20 Kb/s. But if it is important for the community,
I'll do it.

I did follow the advice and end up with a wracked Unity desktop. So I
need currently to adapt myself to work with unity-2d (no windows strecth
etc.) or gnome-shell.

OOT: Is there anyway to know which packages are updated recently and
rollback the update process? Or should I reinstall 12.04( __windows__ )?

[Bug 1014240] Re: [Asus eeepc 1225B] Keyboard and Touchpad randomly not working at startup

2013-01-09 Thread Andrew Aldridge
I #'d (commented) out the line that said
"GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash" "

Inserted :
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash i8042.reset i8042.nomux"
updated grub

Tried with reset, nomux, and both.

It fixed the keyboard and touchpad issue but broke the login.
I get three separate results.
1)During boot i get the blueish screen that appears during all boots before the
splash that covers the boot scroll. No button will take it away and show the
boot log scroll. Just stays bluish till I manually reset.
2) The bluish screen turns to a Splash and a generic login box appears. Then
typing in my info, brings up a symbol that says that I am logged in but doesnt
disappear and goto the desktop. It just stays on the splash and login window.
3) Just like result two except the screen goes blueish and an error window
comes up and says failed to login to gnome session.

I have checked my install iso with md5sum and the install on the usb. I
have reinstalled with UEFI option on the boot menu screen(which doesn't
install) and the regular option on that screen 12 times now. The live
usb boots and runs flawlessly. The installation works after the first
boot and then just crumbles more and more each boot.

I am just now taking my first C programming class so this is out of my
league but am familiar with bash and willing to fix this if i can.

[Bug 1098001] [NEW] DistUpgradeController calls apport with a source package as an argument

2013-01-09 Thread Brian Murray
Public bug reported:

[ Impact ]
Some errors encountered when upgrading from one Ubuntu release to another are
not reported because of an improper call to apport.

[ Test Case ]
1) Create a file named /etc/update-manager/release-upgrades.d/auf.cfg with the
following contents:
[Aufs]
RWDir=/nonexistent-mntpoint/
2) In a terminal run 'do-release-upgrade -d --sandbox'
3) Observe an "Invalid problem report" dialog box and a message saying that
"Package ubuntu-release-upgrader does not exist"

-
In DistUpgradeController ubuntu-release-upgrader manually calls apport for
multiple failure cases using the following:

subprocess.Popen(["apport-bug", "ubuntu-release-upgrader"])

However, ubuntu-release-upgrader is a source package and not a binary
package like update-manager was. Because it is a source package it
fails an apport check (Package ubuntu-release-upgrader does not exist)
and no bug report is created.

[Bug 991707] Re: Mouse pointer (touchpad) gets stuck often

2013-01-09 Thread Matt White
This is still an issue in 12.10, kernel 3.5.0-21-generic. I can
reproduce it by simply closing the lid on my Thinkpad T530. I have mine
set to only turn off the screen when the lid is closed and not suspend.
I can confirm that Adolfo's workaround of dropping to a terminal fixes
the issue.
