2011-09-27 Thread David Henningsson
Control: name="Mic Boost Capture Volume", index=0, device=0
ControlAmp: chs=3, dir=In, idx=0, ofs=0

This probably should have been called "Rear Mic Boost", which is a bug.
Could you confirm that it is the rear microphone jack that is not
working, and that the front microphone jack is working ok (assuming you
select the right mic in sound preferences, if that is not done
automatically)?

[Bug 860350] [NEW] When using an external monitor, LightDM uses a low resolution on both

2011-09-27 Thread Kazade
Public bug reported:

I have a laptop with a screen resolution of 1366x768 and an external 24"
monitor which has a native resolution of 1920x1080.

LightDM mirrors the image on both screens, however the resolution for both
screens falls back to something low, like 1024x768. I think this is probably
the highest resolution that both monitors are capable of, but it has the result
of the login screen looking bad on both.

[Bug 802304] Re: FFe: Take hplip-gui into the standard installation/live session of Ubuntu/Edubuntu

2011-09-27 Thread Martin Pitt
It's very late in the game for oneiric, and hplip-gui didn't get any
serious testing yet. Based on our experience of what crazy hacks hplip
used to do in the past, I think this should get a deeper review first
before releasing it to the general public. So this is for the P cycle.

[Bug 805504] Re: info capplet: Failed to calculate disk space

2011-09-27 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package glib2.0 - 2.30.0-0ubuntu1

---
glib2.0 (2.30.0-0ubuntu1) oneiric; urgency=low

  * New upstream release for GNOME 3.2 final:
- This release contains an ABI change: code written by the GDBus code
generation in this version of GLib is not compatible with earlier
versions of the library (and vice versa)
- desktop file handling: avoid mimeapps.list corruption issue
- info capplet: Failed to calculate disk space. (LP: #805504)
- _set_as_last_used_for_type generates a broken mimeapps.list
  (LP: #854124)
- Various bug fixes.
- Translation updates.
  * 01_gettext-desktopfiles.patch, 04_homedir_env.patch: Refresh to apply
cleanly.
  * debian/libglib2.0-0.symbols: Update to new upstream version,
g_slice_debug_tree_statistics() was dropped. (Not part of official API,
not documented.)
  * debian/control.in: Add Breaks: to the nautilus and gnome-online-accounts
versions which were built with the previous unstable gdbus-codegen
version, these need a rebuild. While this doesn't actually break nautilus,
it's safer to do so.

[Bug 808500] Re: "Save as" on file located on an another computer on the network, doesn't work

2011-09-27 Thread Luzius Thöny
Possibly a duplicate of
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/+bug/705774 ?

I used to get the same error message as Laurent. After installing
libreoffice-gnome, I get the behaviour of #705774 (it will ask me for
login/password). Normal "Save" will work just fine, while "Save as..."
and "Export to PDF" won't.

That's on a fully updated Xubuntu 11.04 64bit.

[Bug 859949] Re: unity can't change icons position

2011-09-27 Thread Hernando Torque
You are running Unity 2D, not Unity.

You can easily spot the difference when looking at the Ubuntu button in
the launcher: if it looks the same as the other launcher items, then you
are using Unity 2D. If it's a bit rounded, then you are using Unity (see
image for comparison http://i.stack.imgur.com/nlCKn.png).

In Unity 2D you need to click and hold an icon before you can drag in
within the launcher bar.

Please could anyone who can reproduce this problem attach
/var/log/boot.log (which will always exist), ideally along with /var/log

@brian: I've raised bug 860371 for apport to do this automatically.

Also, it would be interesting to know if the problem only happens at
early boot. If anyone would care to try triggering the problem "post-
boot", that might provide us with some useful information:

Which desktop are you running Unity, Unity 2D, KDE, something else?

You can enable debug output. Create ~/.config/sni-qt.conf and add the
following to it:

[general]
debug=1

Then start Skype from the command line. You should get a bunch of sni-qt
messages to paste here.

[Bug 837993] Re: Where the average background colour is either very light or dark, adjust this value to darken/lighten in order to preserve readability

2011-09-27 Thread John Lea
** Description changed:

The background of the Dash, Launcher, NotifyOSD, etc.. is tinted with
the average background colour of the wallpaper. In cases where this
average colour is either very light or very dark it should be
respectively darkened or lightened to improve readability.

Inside the 'too dark/light' thresholds, the level of adjustment needs to
be on a sliding scale so that a very very dark background is lightened
more than a background that is just a bit too dark. Average background
colours that do not fall inside the 'too dark/light' thresholds should
  not be modified.
+
+ There is an additional issue in that the implementation does not match
+ the design in terms of both the saturation of the tint and the radius of
+ the blur. Both of these issues also significantly impact readability.
+
+ ---
+
+ Desired resolution:
+
+ There are two parts to this fix:
+
+ 1. adjust the tint colour inside the 'too dark/light' thresholds.
+
+ 2. bring implementation in to line with the designs
+ - Compare "dash_design.png" with "dash_implementation.png" (files attached to
this bug)
+ - Note that both of these screenshots use the same wallpaper, and therefor
the dash tint should be the same in both.
+ - Note that in "dash_design.png" the text in the dash on top of the white
area in the window behind the dash is legible, while in
"dash_implementation.png" it is not.
+ - Increase the tint saturation in the implementation to match the design.
+ - Increase the radius of the dash blur to match the design.
+
+ It would be much appreciated if screenshots of the proposed fixes could
+ be sent to Otto for review and iteration *before* they are committed.

[Bug 860361] [NEW] Upgrade from lucid to maverick leaves lucid version installed

2011-09-27 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

This happens because the version in maverick is older than in Lucid:

lucid 1.5.0.1-0ubuntu0.10.04.0: amd64 i386
lucid-updates 11.07.1.1-0ubuntu0.10.04.0: amd64 i386
maverick 1.5.5.1-0ubuntu0.10.10.0: amd64 i386
maverick-updates 11.02-0ubuntu0.10.10.1: amd64 i386
natty (admin): 11.02-0ubuntu0.11.04.1: amd64 i386

Moreover, upon the upgrade to natty the client gets removed since the
dependencies are no longer satisfied.

rye: so, for some reason landscape-client 11.07.1.1-0ubuntu0.10.10.0 is
still in maverick-proposed, and hasn't been pushed to maverick-updates (while
the same update landed to lucid-updates), that's why you're seeing that the
lucid version is greater
free, i am not sure about why would it delete the package upon the
upgrade to natty though
rye: because apt would like to keep the lucid version, which is the
highest
rye: natty has an older version as well, the new one is blocked in
natty-proposed likewise maverick
rye: so apt would like to keep the lucid version which is the highest,
but it can't due to the python dependencies I guess, which are not available
anymore in natty (they are replaced)

** Affects: landscape-client (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Critical

[Bug 860382] [NEW] plymouth leaks an fd

2011-09-27 Thread James Hunt
Public bug reported:

src/client/plymouth.c:get_kernel_command_line() leaks an fd at line 731:

719   fd = open ("proc/cmdline", O_RDONLY);
720
721 if (fd < 0)
722 {
723   ply_trace ("couldn't open it: %m");
724   return false;
725 }
726
727   ply_trace ("reading kernel command line");

729 {
730   ply_trace ("couldn't read it: %m");

[Bug 802304] Re: FFe: Take hplip-gui into the standard installation/live session of Ubuntu/Edubuntu

2011-09-27 Thread Till Kamppeter
OK, let us seed it in the week when the archive for P opens, to get full
6 months of intense testing, to let the testers be greeted with HPLIP's
crash reports directly in the beginning of the cycle. Then I will do
some calls for testing on the mailing list and on the UDS and on the
Sprint. As I can buy HP printers worth 1 USD every year on HP's
costs, so I can buy some printers for UDSes and Sprints (which will
travel from event to event like all this network and music equipment). I
can also buy HP printers for certain key developers of Ubuntu,
especially in the desktop area.

In addition, HP is taking care of making HPLIP compatible with all
important distros. So I can carry on all testing results and bug reports
to HP and help them to improve their distro integration.

[Bug 854622] Re: Could not install libglib2.0

2011-09-27 Thread Martin Pitt
I downloaded the i386 and amd64 binaries from that version from
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/glib2.0/2.29.92-0ubuntu1/+build/2793297
and
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/glib2.0/2.29.92-0ubuntu1/+build/2793299.
They both have an identical changelog.Debian.gz, so I'm not sure where
the changelog.Debian.gz with the 'apt-get changelog libglib2.0-data'
came from in this particular instance. Also, both these two debs and
libglib2.0-data's changelog.Debian.gz are proper files, not symlinks.

In theory, such a situation could arise like this:

 (1) The i386 build builds -0 and -data, both get identical
changelog.Debian.gz, and the one from libglib2.0-0 gets symlinked to
libglib2.0-data.

 (2) After that, libglib2.0-data's changelog gets truncated, and a
pointer added to apt-get changelog.

 (3) The amd64 build doesn't build the arch:all libglib2.0-data, and
thus libglib2.0-0:amd64's changelog.Debian.gz won't be a symlink. During
truncation it would point to "apt-get changelog libglib2.0-0".

However, that can't be the case: pkgbinarymangler does not do symlinks
from arch:any to arch:all for this very reason, rendering (1)
impossible. Also, changelog stripping happens _first_, and symlinking
afterwards, so the symlinking takes care only to symlink identical
files, rendering (2) impossible. Thirdly, the packages built by
launchpad all have changelog.Debian.gz as proper files, rendering (3)
impossible.

In such a situation, could you please give me the output of

  ls -l /usr/share/doc/*glib2.0*/changelog.Debian.gz
  dpkg -S /usr/share/doc/*glib2.0*/changelog.Debian.gz

to see which changelog.Debian.gz gets claimed by which package, and
which are symlinks? Michael, did you happen to get the glib packages
from a different place than the archive, i. e. can you please give me
the output of

  apt-cache policy libglib2.0-0

?

2011-09-27 Thread dino99
@James

cant help myself as i dont get this issue now; but you still get bugs
reported with this problem. The problem is that these bugs are declared
as "duplicate", then most of the users cant find back these reports if
they dont know how (using advanced search & uncheck the duplicate
criteria). I think that the "master" bug report which own the
"duplicate" might be added to the bug list of the user reporting
"duplicate". That way you will get help for your request easierly.

[Bug 858590] Re: [dash] Filter pane doesn't clear its background when switching lenses

2011-09-27 Thread Sunil Rana
Sorry the following statement is not about the bug. Don't you think in lenses
users would like to see all the application they have installed without
clicking the show more button. I as a user don't want to all the time see what
is available to download so that can remain as it is now. Secondly wouldn't it
be nice to have filter displayed by default and the the button changed to hide
filters. More over, on the shortcut lens , displayed by home lens, wouldn't it
be better if users are allowed to add their own shortcuts to that lens.

More over, wouldn't it be nice to have some app that let user submit feedback
as it is in Google+. That way users will feel more connected to the developing
community and thus Ubuntu community as a whole will become better.

I didn't know whom to address these thoughts of mine. I hope the person
dealing with the bug know it better.

Thanking you.

Sunil

[Bug 779589] Re: Ubuntu server 11.04 amd64 does not detect uefi

2011-09-27 Thread Ubuntu Uefi User
Sorry for the misconception. I'm now able to boot from the the 2TB hdd
if I use the mainboard in non UEFI mode (bios emulation). 11.04 server
installer hangs on uefi mode. (since the firmware/bios update 0524)

I get a menu now (since update, before it stayed blank) when I run the
installer in UEFI mode, but after that it won't boot. If I read the
changelog correctly for the kernel this seems to be a fixed kernel issue
on <3.0 kernels.

The boot issue is still a work around because the installer won't boot
in uefi (maybe usb installer issue). It won't boot UEFI after the
installation either, because it detects the BIOS emulation during the
install.

[Bug 805252] Re: appmenu shows normal nautilus menu when desktop is displayed (not the tweaked desktop one)

2011-09-27 Thread Matthieu Baerts
@pitti, ubuntu-desktop-team: please don't change the importance! If we don't
use the Gnome-Panel or the Unity panel, the desktop is ugly with this (dark)
menu bar on the top of the screen :-/
I no longer have this bug because I use a modified version of gtk+3.0 by using
the new version of this patch given in this bug report by cimi:
043_ubuntu_menu_proxy.patch

[Bug 860395] [NEW] sni-qt and hp-systray interact badly

2011-09-27 Thread Till Kamppeter
Public bug reported:

Note: For testing hplip-gui must be installed and at least one HP
printer must be set up with HPLIP on the system.

I am on a completely updated Oneiric system with the standard Unity
desktop. The system is grown out of Natty by daily updates during the
Oneiric development cycle.

While investigating the problem of bug 857929 (which I succeeded to fix
for the original reporter) I found out that my situation is even worse:

1. The hp-systray icon (an HP logo) does not show in the notification
area after login, though hp-systray is running (see with "ps aux" or see
the notifications popping up when printing).

2. To get the logo visible one has to either start "hp-toolbox" or to
kill all hp-systray processes (there are usually three) and start it
again from the command line.

3. Clicking on the icon does not show the menu. Instead a little gray
rectangle appears right under the logo, most probably an empty menu.
Neither the HPLIP patch from comment #6 of bug 857929 changes this
situation nor adding "hp-systray=1" or "python=1" to /etc/xdg/sni-
qt.conf, nor doing both.

[Bug 824273] Re: Realtek card reader with USB id [0bda:0129] does not work

2011-09-27 Thread Keng-Yü Lin
@icedearth_nic
Since this bug is for inclusion of the driver and the package is released,
can you file another bug for your issue?

I checked the dmesg with and without rts5139 blacklisted, there is no
noticeable difference. Are you able to manually mount the USB stick
(/dev/sdb1 in both cases)?

I don't think it's necessary. We should just enable it early in P and
see how it's going. Do you see anything which we need to discuss there
in advance in a large group?
