[Bug 582809] Re: Synaptics Clickpad touchpad buttons are not working

2011-06-05 Thread Mohegan
'LEDStatus = 0' is the default parameter. It's the same as led_status is false.
I think it's normal.

Have you got any problem ? For me, when I start my computer, the LED is
switched off and LEDStatus is equal to 0

[Bug 762964] Re: Bluetooth doesn't work in Ubuntu 11.04

2011-06-05 Thread tkoun
hello,

here is my workaround that consistently works not only at boot or reboot
but also after suspend/hibernate...

--> just install using synaptic the bluez package from blueman ppa
(ppa:blueman/ppa); it only exists for maverick but it installs ok in
natty.

before I tried
1) kernel upgrade from natty proposed
2) /etc/init.d/ bluetooth restart in /etc/rc.local

1) did not work and 2) does not work after suspend/resume

hope this will help someone trapped in natty and lazy as myself to
downgrade to the good old maverick...

PS: after having to deal with this and the infamous 1-pixel tray icons
bug (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/natty/+source/unity/+bug/767095)
I wonder how it is possible that natty ever came out of the beta (not to
say alpha) status

[Bug 793249] [NEW] QString doesn't provide QString::QString(std::string)

2011-06-05 Thread GreatBunzinni
Public bug reported:

Although my program doesn't have the QT_NO_STL macro defined, when I try
to assign a std::string object to a QString object the operation fails
silently, either through QString::FromStdString() and
QString::QString(std::string &). Moreover, when I try to compile code
which outputs QString objects to the standard output stream, I get the
following error:

error: cannot bind ‘std::ostream’ lvalue to ‘std::basic_ostream&&’

This didn't happened in Kubuntu 10.10.

[Bug 793248] [NEW] [natty] kde_components/PartitionModel.py crashes if installer run in plasma netbook workspace

2011-06-05 Thread Zorael
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubiquity

Trying to install Kubuntu 11.04 on an MSI Wind U100 rebrand netbook.

After booting the live media I was automatically presented with the
netbook workspace formfactor, but instead of changing it to the normal
desktop workspace I thought I'd give it a try.

The installer crashed after I finished manually partitioning with the
attached python backtraces. I retried it twice and it was quite
reproducible. After switching to the desktop workspace (and running
ubiquity from a terminal with debugging enabled), I got past that step
and the installation finished successfully.

[Bug 250723] Re: USB devices does not perceive it.

2011-06-05 Thread Jonathan Marsden
I think it is relatively unlikely that Ubuntu packagers and developers
will add this new feature to hardinfo -- enhancement requests to
application software are usually something to ask the "upstream"
software developers about, instead.

@André Savik : If you would like to provide the "trivial" patch to
hardinfo to do this, that would probably be more productive that asking
"What gives? Any news?" -- write that patch, and it will *be* the news
:) Based on personal experience, hardinfo developers do welcome user-
contributed patches.

You could also generate an enhancement request on the bugtracker of the
hardinfo application itself, if a similar request does not already exist
there, since this request does not seem to be Ubuntu-specific. That
bugtracker is at http://bugs.hardinfo.org/

E: /var/cache/apt/archives/gnome-games-common_1%
3a3.0.2-0ubuntu1~natty2_amd64.deb: Versuch,
/usr/share/gnome-games-common/cards/bonded.svg
zu überschreiben, welches auch in Paket gnome-games-extra-data 2.30.0-1ubuntu1
ist.

In english this means:

E: /var/cache/apt/archives/gnome-games-common_1%
3a3.0.2-0ubuntu1~natty2_amd64den: Try to overwrite
/usr/share/gnome-games-common/cards/bonded.svg
which is also in package gnome-games-extra-data2.30.0-1ubuntu1.

So in one of these packages, this file claimed for has to go, so that it
gets installable.

And to solve the issue for not being able to log in after having
installed this ppa-repository, you not only need to edit the line
mentioned above. The very last line in this file shows a wrong Gnome-
Version with 2.0. this has to be changed to 3.0. Then the login works
again. For me it did.

[Bug 284821] Re: Ubuntu can't handle mmsh: streams.

2011-06-05 Thread LukasThyWalls
I have this problem in Kubuntu 11.04 in Natty. I test the browsers
Firefos and Chromium with identic results. With Totem or MPlayer plugins
for browsers have the same problem. And i have all the packages you
said.

But i test with this page
http://www.marca.com/multimedia/directo/marcatv.html and i see
something. The URL for the stream object is
http://reflector.marca.com:9002 but if i change this for
mms://reflector.marca.com:9002 (I download the page and change the html
code) it works without any problem. With Totem plugin or MPlayer plugin.

if the problem is how it handle or detect http to mms content, do a
workaround or a patch it isn't too difficult.

When trying to connect to a network, I get the same error:

Using the linux 2.6.39-1 mainline kernel fixed the problem, but I acctually
would like to use the ubuntu stock kernel.
Do you need any more information?

Re: [Bug 622524] Re: See question; #122091; WNDA3100v2 still fails; ndiswrapper crashes system

2011-06-05 Thread cooper
Fabio,

No I am not but that is because I gave up on trying to resolve it a couple
of months back.

1 - I use version 11 Ubuntu at this time.
2 - my resolution to the issue at the time was to trash the Netgear wireless
card and replace it with a Linksys card. Someone in a forum commented that
that was a wimpy solution on my part. It might have been but then, the
Linksys card worked out of the box and without needing NDIS.

I never did figure out why ndis kept crashing things.

Hope that helps.

Best regards,
jwferk

Status in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: gnome-nettool

With reference to question 122091; first, I thank the responder for
the advice and effort to that question.

This is an effort to get a Netgear USB WNDAv2 wireless to work with
  Ubuntu 10.

1 - installed wine to extract the driver file from Netgear.
  2 - downloaded WNDA3100v2 Software versions 1.7, 1.6, 1.2, 1.1 and 1.0. I
did this because wine would not extract 1.1 through 1.7. I finally settled
on 1.0 which ran through the setup.exe routine in wine.
3 - copied the WinXP2000 file with the following files to /usr/local

   -rwxrwxr-x 1 ferk ferk 7427 2009-06-08 11:52 bcmh43xx64.cat
  -rwxrwxr-x 1 ferk ferk 7450 2009-06-08 11:52 bcmh43xx.cat
  -rwxrwxr-x 1 ferk ferk 747008 2009-05-05 12:00 bcmwlhigh564.sys
  -rwxrwxr-x 1 ferk ferk 167298 2009-05-15 11:58 bcmwlhigh5.inf
  -rwxrwxr-x 1 ferk ferk 632576 2009-05-05 12:00 bcmwlhigh5.sys

4 - installed the latest version of ndiswrapper from sourceforge.

  5 - ran ndiswrapper -i bcmwlhigh5.inf

6 - command ndiswrapper -l indicated both the device and the driver were
present
7 - loading the ndiswrapper did not solve the connection problem; the
wireless usb connection does not yet work. There is no output for wlan0 with
the iwconfig command. This shows no wireless device to be present.

8 - blacklisted the following in /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf to
  avoid any driver conflicts:

  #conflict with ndsiwrapper
  #(see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/Driver/Ndiswrapper)
  blacklist bcm43xx
  blacklist b43
  blacklist b43legacy
  blacklist ssb

NOW, an additional problem has popped-up. - Not only does the WNDA3100
still not work but I need to blacklist ndiswrapper at startup. Reason
is that if the ndiswrapper module is loaded at boot, the main login
screen no longer opens and I cannot login to the system. I need to
boot into failsafe at the root level and blacklist ndiswrapper, then
  reboot the system.

If the ndiswrapper module is loaded at boot, I cannot even use the GUI
failsafe mode as no login screen appears.

I have reinstalled the OS three times today. I can confirm absolutely
that the system is completely current and that blacklisting
ndiswrapper prior to booting is the core of the problem. It does not
make any difference if I install ndiswrapper from Synaptic or from
  Sourceforge.

[Bug 792850] Re: Lubuntu Oneiric live desktop lacks restart and shutdown buttons

2011-06-05 Thread Erick Brunzell
"The screenshot supplied demonstrating the reported issue does not show
the default Lubuntu theme, it seems to show an LXDE theme instead."

Correct, and it only happens on the live desktop, not after I've
installed. I began discussing this on the mailing list, to which I'd not
subscribed in time for Julien's release announcement, but there were
three issues regarding casper and/or ubiquity that I didn't experience
with Ubuntu:

1) The Lubuntu Alpha1 Live CD boots to a tty, so you have to type startx
to get the DE.

2) The default DE lacks restart or shutdown buttons.

3) Upon completing the installation I was asked whether to restart or
keep using the Live DE as usual. I chose to restart and the CD ejected
as expected but the screen was just blank. So I removed the CD, closed
the tray and hit enter, but nothing happened. I tried some common key
combos but finally had to use the reset button on my box to complete the
restart.

Per Julien's instructions on the mailing list I repeated this procedure,
and upon booting to a tty I tried waiting (I took a shower), and I tried
to restart lxdm via "sudo service lxdm start", but I'm used to Gnome so
I could easily be doing something wrong.

Regardless I could only get X to start by typing "startx" in the tty.
Then I end up in what appears to be a pure LXDE.

"Here, a virtualbox 4.0.8 VM running Lubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Alpha 1 shows
the expected Lubuntu theming and the shutdown menu has all the expected
buttons."

I'm running on actual hardware, not in a VM. The hardware involved is:

JetWay JATOM-GM1-230-LF Motherboard
Intel Atom 230 CPU @ 1.60GHz
System Memory 2GB DIMM
Intel 82945G/GZ Integrated Graphics
Intel N10/ICH 7 Family High Def Audio Controller

"Did you perhaps change themes, and fail to note this in your bug
report? "

No. I installed nothing. Well, since Julien requested a screenshot I
installed the screenshot tool, but that's all.

Maybe starting from "startx" rather than starting from lxdm starts the
wrong session?

Given what Julien said in the release announcement I doubt this is worth
spending much time on.

[Bug 784641] Re: VLC freezes PC

2011-06-05 Thread Rik.v.a.
Still, this only happens in VLC. I've tried other players: xine and
smplayer don't freeze up.

It might be noteworthy to add that this freezing also happens on this
same machine when running Arch Linux (on another partition).

I did a full memtest so I don't think this is hardware related.

Re: [Bug 762987] Re: RT2870 WLAN Stick (D-Link DWA 140) not working. firmware does not support detected chipset

2011-06-05 Thread Wolfgang Kufner
Actually, with linux-firmware 1.53 the rt3070.bin is now a symlink to
the 8KiB rt2870.bin (because of patch rt2870sta: Use latest firmware
for RT3070 and RT3071), so in oneiric currently a staging driver will
have to read the first part of an 8KiB firmware now.

40nS which means really high speed. Using Ubuntu kernel driver for it.
Is the kernel driver supposed to handle CP2104? May I have access to kernel
CP210x driver so that I would "modify" it to support CP2104?
What are the steps to reconfigure (re-compile) the driver?

Thanks
Nuno

[Bug 777493] Re: nvidia drivers activated but not in use on natty 11.04

2011-06-05 Thread Linuxexperte
hi people,

for having a grphic-mode, I have switched back to the experimental
noveau-driver and this works for me. This driver is correctly recognized
and in use. I see it as the best solution just for the moment. But for
solving this completely, the package, I mentioned above has to be reput
into the distro, because it is a direct dependency of nvidia-current!!!

Greetings

[Bug 793266] [NEW] No accelerometer HDD protection on a Toshiba Satellite A665

2011-06-05 Thread LTSmash
Public bug reported:

I have this Toshiba Satellite A665, which comes with a 3D accelerometer.
The purpose of this accelerometers is to measure the relative magnitude
(and direction) of the acceleration of gravity. In the event the device
enter in a free fall, the magnitude of the acceleration changes and this
is used to park the HD heads and protect the integrity of the data. I
have support for HDD protection in Win7, but it's not included in
Ubuntu, and there seems to be not a single driver out there. HDAPS
doesn't support my PC, only Macbooks and IBM computers, and it's very
dangerous for me to use my system without protection, my HDD already
died once because of disabling HDD protection.

It would be great if we could have accelerometer support in Ubuntu.

Maybe it would be possible to reverse engineer the driver from Windows,
by decompiling it and porting the code to linux kernel? A framework for
all accelerometers would be great.

Thanks.

[Bug 793265] [NEW] If the service name too long, printer does not get advertized via DNS-SD

2011-06-05 Thread Till Kamppeter
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: cups

I have several print queues on a print server and they have rather
verbose descriptions in their Description/Info fields. The patch to make
CUPS' DNS-SD broadcasting of print queues also working with Avahi
generates DNS-SD service names as " @ ". Avahi only allows strings with a maximum of 63 characters as
service names and the service names generated by the patch are often too
long. The printers with too long service names do not get DNS-SD-
advertized as Avahi does not accept them.

I have modified the Avahi patch so that in case of too long description
strings, they get cut to assure that the service name is never longer
than 63 characters.

The attached patch contains the changes and applies to the
scheduler/dirsvc.c file after applying the debian/patches/cups-
avahi.patch.

[Bug 793278] [NEW] Daily build 05 May Live boots to red screen & cursor

2011-06-05 Thread jerrylamos
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: unity

Current daily build Live defaults to "Unity" desktop setting for Radeon
Mobility 7500.
Unity 3D does not work on this video.
Forums say Unity 3D isn't even on the Live .iso
Live should default to Unity 2D which works. (yes bugs, but at least displays
and does some things with launchers.

[Bug 793280] [NEW] DoS window manager with extremely long button

2011-06-05 Thread Emanuel Bronshtein
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gxmessage

displaying extremely long button causes the window manager to crash.

test case :
emanuel@emanuel-desktop:~$ gxmessage text -buttons `python -c "print
'A'*115000"`

(gxmessage:8096): Gdk-WARNING **: Native Windows wider or taller than 65535
pixels are not supported
The program 'gxmessage' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'RenderBadPicture (invalid Picture parameter)'.
  (Details: serial 316 error_code 158 request_code 148 minor_code 23)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

[Bug 792850] Re: Lubuntu Oneiric live desktop lacks restart and shutdown buttons

2011-06-05 Thread Erick Brunzell
OK, while "sudo service lxdm start" failed to work, the command "sudo
/etc/init.d/lxdm restart" does work and boots the true Lubuntu DE which
includes the proper buttons :^)

So it all has something to do with lxdm not handing off boot properly,
or something of the nature.

Given the fact that this is Alpha1, and the next build begins with a
whole new process, I think it would be foolish to waste any additional
time on this.

[Bug 788540] Re: [Thinkpad T410s] Mute indicator gets out of sync

2011-06-05 Thread Chris Snyder
I am also experiencing this behavior on my Thinkpad T410 running Kubuntu
11.04. The hardware and software indicators can get reversed either by
toggling the mute on the panel icon or if the hardware mute is enabled
on boot or resume from suspend. Pressing the mute button switches both
indicators, keeping them reversed. Changing the volume via the hardware
buttons will reset the hardware mute indicator and get them back in
sync.

I rebooted into the stock Windows 7 install to check its behavior. It
functions in a much more logical way: the software and hardware mute
indicators are kept in sync at all times.

While it is true that it is desirable at times to disable the speakers
while leaving the headphones operable, IMHO the current behavior is not
the correct way to expose this functionality to the user.

[Bug 699802] Re: error:: no video mode activated

2011-06-05 Thread P Jones
Just wanted to confirm that comment #24 worked for me on Natty final,
after an alternate install in which I selected LVM with encryption for /
. Seems to me that grub goes looking for the fonts at boot but the
volume they are on is still encrypted at that time and therefore
unaccessible. Moving the fonts to the grub directory solves the problem.

[Bug 793283] [NEW] Xorg crash

2011-06-05 Thread james
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

Ubuntu 11.04
X appears to be randomly crashing and dumping me back to the login screen.
Running programs are killed. Leaves video artifacts (dark pixels) on the
screen post-crash which go away with a reboot. Firefox 4.0.1, after X crashes
and I log back in (without rebooting), cursor is displaced in Firefox and I
have to position it one line above what I intend to click on.

The X crash seems the same as bug 780358.

[Bug 791082] Re: Battery monitor doesn't show level on ThinkPad X220

2011-06-05 Thread Carlos Moffat
I can confirm this bug. I'd like to add, in case it helps, that the
readings for battery energy seems to be off by a factor of 10. Please
notice the "Energy when full" reading. I have seen that symptom in the
"Energy" too.

Best regards.

[Bug 793284] [NEW] Window corner fake transparency problem

2011-06-05 Thread Philip I.J.H.
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: metacity

Window corners are round, so there is a little bit of transparency in the
corner. To establish this transparency effect, metacity shows the wallpaper
underneath the 'transparent' part of the corner in the transparent part of the
corner. But the gnome panel (when on top) drops a shadow on top of the
wallpaper and because there is no real transparency this shadow isn't shown in
the window corner. As a result you can clearly see the contrast between the
window corner and the wallpaper.
I included a screenshot.

metacity 2.30.3
Fully updated Ubuntu 11.04, running in Ubuntu Classic mode (simply without
unity)

** Affects: metacity (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 791076] Re: Emacs: choosing normal monospace font in Emacs but gives bolded italic

2011-06-05 Thread Lukas Persson
Same problem for me, I once tried to install the font Inconsolata and I
got the exactly the same problem that time around, bold italic was what
I saw totally ignoring what I chose in the settings. Both times the
monospaced font looked perfect in terminal. This makes me believe that
emacs is the culprit here.

[Bug 793289] [NEW] DoS window manager with extremely long error

2011-06-05 Thread Emanuel Bronshtein
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: vinagre

displaying extremely long error causes the window manager to crash.
if the keyboard doesn't respond , login in tty and run "compiz&" .

test case:

emanuel@emanuel-desktop:~$ vinagre --file=`python -c "print 'A'*115000"`

(vinagre:8697): Gdk-WARNING **: Native Windows wider or taller than 65535
pixels are not supported
vinagre: Fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server :0.0.

sometimes it print other messages :

emanuel@emanuel-desktop:~$ vinagre --file=`python -c "print 'A'*115000"`

(vinagre:8766): Gdk-WARNING **: Native Windows wider or taller than 65535
pixels are not supported
The program 'vinagre' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'RenderBadPicture (invalid Picture parameter)'.
  (Details: serial 313 error_code 158 request_code 148 minor_code 8)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

[Bug 792913] Re: Xubuntu 11.04 failed to install

2011-06-05 Thread franmayo
Second step: I ran a live session, that went apparently OK. From there, I
selected "install Xubuntu".
First point, I checked the install CD: no error message. Secondly I ran the
system install. It crashed at the exact same stage as during the first attempt
(see above). But this time I could retrieve the two requested log files, that
are now attached to this bug report.
