Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: metacity

Window corners are round, so there is a little bit of transparency in the
corner. To establish this transparency effect, metacity shows the wallpaper
underneath the 'transparent' part of the corner in the transparent part of the
corner. But the gnome panel (when on top) drops a shadow on top of the
wallpaper and because there is no real transparency this shadow isn't shown in
the window corner. As a result you can clearly see the contrast between the
window corner and the wallpaper.
I included a screenshot.

metacity 2.30.3
Fully updated Ubuntu 11.04, running in Ubuntu Classic mode (simply without
unity)

** Affects: metacity (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
