[Bug 697112] [NEW] Backport fix for broken XDMCP login to Lucid

2011-01-04 Thread Alkis Georgopoulos
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

XDMCP logins work the first time in Lucid, but not the second time due to an
uninitialized structure.
The relevant 2-line patch in
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=579033#61 has been accepted
upstream and is included in Maverick+.
Please backport it to lucid-updates.

If anyone needs this before it's backported, I've uploaded a fixed .deb in my
ppa:
https://launchpad.net/~alkisg/+archive/ppa/+sourcepub/1411779/+listing-archive-extra

** Affects: gdm (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 697108] [NEW] syncdaemon isn't connecting

2011-01-04 Thread Martin Pool
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubuntuone-client

>From http://askubuntu.com/questions/19940/newly-added-files-dont-sync-
down/19947

I added some files into my Ubuntu One/My Files folder on my desktop
machine. I can see them in the U1 web ui. My laptop is connected to the
same U1 account, and in the Ubuntu One preference pane I can see it's
connected to the account.

However, my new files never download.

In syncdaemon.log I can see it checking a bunch of other existing files,
and then the file ends with many repetitions of

2011-01-04 11:05:42,277 - ubuntuone.SyncDaemon.Main - NOTE - MARK
(state: ; queues: metadata: 1; content: 0; hash: 0, fsm-
cache: hit=5086 miss=69)

I do have a working network connection. Of course it's possible the
server was not reachable right at the very moment it tried to connect.

At chipaca's suggestion I did 'u1sdtool -c' and shortly after that I saw
these messages appear in the log file and my files downloaded.

This is still an issue. I tried (kubuntu) natty-desktop-amd64+mac.iso from

many core packages depends on poppler-utils while xpdf-utils conflict with

not), bug already opened multiple times and work for your team.

[Bug 696895] Re: FTBFS on armel

2011-01-04 Thread Jani Monoses
--enable-thumb2 option was not passed

this is also needed somewhere in debian/rules to actually pass it to the
script generating mozconfig from mozconfig.in

ifeq (1, $(DEB_ENABLE_THUMB2))
DEB_DEFINES += -DDEB_ENABLE_THUMB2
endif

I have only tested yesterday adding the --enable-thumb2 line
unconditionally in the packaging, as it only has effect on ARM in
upstream's configure file. It is not directly passed to gcc so that
should be fine.

[Bug 697120] [NEW] Unity causes Guake scrollbar to be off screen

2011-01-04 Thread Aaron Peachey
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: unity

Natty Alpha 1 with all updates applied. Unity 3.2.8-0ubuntu1

Using Guake, a terminal emulator, which 'slides' down from the top of the
screen when invoked with an F key and 'slides' back up out of the screen when
no longer required.
When using Unity, with Guake visible, Guake's right edge is off the right hand
side of the screen which means some of the right hand screen area and, more
importantly, the right hand scrollbar is not accessible.

It appears Guake may be using the desktop size as its width but not
taking into account that Unity is taking up some pixels on the left hand
side for its sidebar, which means Guake's right edge is outside the
visible screen area. Switching workspaces isn't a viable workaround as
Guake repeats its behaviour on all workspaces.

Expected behaviour: Guake's right hand screen edge should be visible and
accessible on the right hand side of the screen.

To reproduce:
Start Guake while using Unity. Use relevant F key to invoke Guake (F12 is
default). Produce enough terminal output to fill more than one page (i.e. to
ensure scrollbar will be visible). Note scrollbar is not accessible on right
hand side of screen.
Also, run a command in the terminal that produces right justified output (such
as re-starting a service like apache2, which generally outputs a
right-justified [OK]). Note output is not visible or partly off the screen.

Note, I understand the bug may be with Guake but thought Unity would be
the best spot to initiate it, as this bug is not present when a Classic
Desktop session is used.

[Bug 675005] Re: Update spread to version 4.1

2011-01-04 Thread Robert Johansson
I have created an Ubuntu package for spread 4.1.0, which I attach here.
I am trying to figure out how to submit this package in the proper way,
but in the meantime the attached file could be used to generate the
packages and I would also appreciate any feedback on the packaging. To
build the package the file spread-src-4.1.0.tar.gz from www.spread.org
is required, and it needs to have the name spread_4.1.0.orig.tar.gz.

[Bug 323091] Re: gedit and nautilus cannot modify file on SMB/CIFS share (file is busy)

2011-01-04 Thread Eladon
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 34813 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/34813

Actually this is not just an issue with gedit and nautilus. For
example, I use PCManFM, and if I copy a file to the mounted vbox share,
the first copy is OK. But if I copy it again, and attempt an over-
write, it gives the same "text file busy" error, and generates same temp
file. So I was using neither gedit or nautilus and still same problem.

Here's a dialogue where vbox is blamed at the end:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=594162

And here's where virtualbox.org says vbox is OK and it's gedit's fault (see
bottom under "troubleshooting"):
http://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?t=15868

So what next? Is this a fault with vbox?

[Bug 676080] Re: support temp sensor

Thanks. I've updated to 3.20 and toggled the CPU temperature

So byobu is picking up the "CPU temperature" output. I have no idea why
this output (35 degrees C) is so different from the temperature of each
core, but of course this is not a byobu-related issue.

[Bug 558581] Re: Indicator-applet forcibly overrides Super+m key combo

2011-01-04 Thread Denys Rtveliashvili
This bug is really annoying. I have Super+M set as "toggle maximize"
shortcut. Indicator applet just intercepts it and there is no proper way
to disable this behaviour. And without the indicator applet the keyboard
indicator does not show what is the name of the current keyboard layout.
This is sooo bad...

Indicator applet should at the very least have this shortcut in gconf
instead of being hardcoded.

For now, I have brutally hacked the applet on my PC by commenting out
the line which sets the shortcuts. It kind of works... Until the next
upgrade, I suppose.

I report the same problem, with kernel ubuntu 2.6.35-24, with 2.6.35-23
everything work correct.
The hw is the same above (asus 1215n, with AR8152 NIC ethernet port.

The behaviour for me is the following:
- Start to work (dhcp transation ok)
- After 2/3 minutes everything stop working.
- If i ping someone on my network (ie the proxy) i get afrom the ping
From 192.168.1.42 icmp_seq=2 Destination Host Unreachable

- If i check the daemon.log i can see the dhcp trying to acquire ip but
has a timeout failed. After a while goes (normally behaviour) in auto ip
mode

At the end: i can see the eth0 but it seems to be disconnected. He can see the
link goes up but doesn't communication
Now if i try to plug my modem the behaviour doesn't change. I can see the link
(i use a vpn connection) but nothing go through.
As i said: i don't report this on 2.6.35-23

thanks

[Bug 676624] Re: Panel applets randomly fail to start.

2011-01-04 Thread Daniel Swarbrick
I've searched, and this seems to be the best bug to add a "me too" to.
At most logins (classic desktop), I typically get the trash applet,
window switcher, clock, and indicator applet fail to load, with an error
message along the lines of "Clock applet quit unexpectedly".

With each applet that fails to load, the line:

** (gnome-panel:1748): WARNING **: Operation was cancelled

appears twice in ~/.xsession-errors

This has been going on for about 6 weeks now, and I guess it's because
the developers are focusing on Unity that this problem has got so little
attention. It's starting to drive me mad though, and I'm not far off
flagging natty is too buggy to even test right now, and going back to a
stable release.

[Bug 532733] Re: apt/dpkg in qemu-system-arm hangs if a big task is installed

2011-01-04 Thread Oliver Grawert
this bug has nothing to do with mono at all, please do not confuse it
with the (already open and already commented) mono tasks.

this bug is about qemu hanging if a big task of packages is installed,
even if there are no mono packages among them. note in the initial logs
that it hangs in various places, usually when unpacking iso-codes.
please dont make more mess out of this bug than it already is, you
commented the same on three bugs now which are all different.

yes, you seem to be on something here, if the snapdragon (to my
knowledge being the only real HW this issue was seen on yet) behaves the
same as qemu there might be a similarity. upstream clearly pointed to
the boehm gc issues with the x86 /proc filesystem for our bug, would be
intresting to know why the snapdragon exposes similar issues here. over
all it would be good though if you opened a new bug to not taint the
qemu bugtracking so much.

FWIW it appears that Natty Narwhal (11.04) will finally have exiv 0.20
according to this:

I've got to say I'm *sorely* tempted to upgrade to Natty because of
this, though I suspect I'll put it off until the beta's appear..

[Bug 697165] [NEW] wrong handling of udev rule hiding partitions-mounting usb-drives

2011-01-04 Thread Sebastian Haberl
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: udev

I created a udev rule to hide the windows partitions of my dual-boot
system the rule looks like the following:

Kernel=="sda", ENV{UDISKS_PRESENTATION_HIDE}="1"
Kernel=="sdb", ENV{UDISKS_PRESENTATION_HIDE}="1"

I expect udev to hide all partitions, that are not mounted (e.g. via
fstab or manual mount). This is actually working for both hard-drives.

But this also hides all partitiones on usb-volumes so that they don't get
automatically loaded. This means that the USB-Drive is not shown in nautilus at
all.
It is correctly recognized by fdisk -l and I can mount it manually, but the
rule should not hide any usb-drive (if it is not /sda or /sdb, which it is not).

[Bug 697166] [NEW] Unity does not load translations

2011-01-04 Thread David Planella
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: unity

The current version of Unity does not seem to load translations, despite
them being available in the language packs.

This includes, as far as I can see:

* All options in the menu that appears upon right-clicking on the icons in the
launcher (e.g. "Keep in Launcher")

It seems to be a regression from Maverick, in which all messages were

[Bug 697168] [NEW] Unity's translatable messages in Launchpad not up to date

2011-01-04 Thread David Planella
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: unity

In Unity Natty I've noticed that some of the strings in Natty are
different or new from those in Maverick (e.g. "Keep in Launcher" ->
"Keep In Launcher"; "Open New Window").

However, they are not still present in Launchpad for translation. In
general, a package build should trigger a translation template
generation and make all the new strings appear, so either this is not
working in the unity package or the new strings are not marked for
translation.

[Bug 691653] Re: compiz crashes when using alt-tab (the radeon driver kills it)

2011-01-04 Thread David Barth
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected running-unity ubuntu

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: compiz

While alt-tabbing with compiz (latest version,
  1:0.9.2.1+glibmainloop3-0ubuntu4), i got this crasher.

I've noticed crashers like this for a while since i switched over to
natty, but most of the time i was getting traces that were mostly "stack
  smashers" according to smspillaz.

Withi this one, i think i've put the finger on a more probable cause for
the crasher. See stacktrace at http://pastebin.ubuntu.com/544957/ an
  excerpt of which being:
