[Bug 671664] Re: slow computer after upgrade
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug. In order to help us understanding any of the issues you describe we would need some more details, and in particular: 1. Which version of ubuntu did you upgrade from (it appears you are running 8.04). 2. I would recommend for you to clean up your installation packages by running in the terminal the following command: sudo apt-get clean sudo apt-get autoremove 3. If you are still running 8.04, I would strongly recommend, after you perform step 1 and 2, to upgrade to at least 10.04 (which is a long term release) or 10.10. I am going to set the status of this bug as incomplete. I confirm this bug on Ubuntu Maverick (i386). The bug is not present on Lucid, with the version of GIMP backported from maverick. [Bug 666601] Re: Xorg does not dump core (via file nor Apport) on crash
Thanks for that, Gustavo. I would just add two things to your instructions: 1. "ulimit -c unlimited" at some point, so that ulimit doesn't prevent a core file from being generated; 2. Remember to specify the display, e.g. "DISPLAY=:0 gnome-session" :-) Even with all that, if Apport is enabled, you don't get a core dump. The only way you get a core is if Apport is disabled (i.e. core_pattern specifies a file instead of a pipe). Very odd. Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures At a minimum, we need: 1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem, 2. the behavior you expected, and 3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible). Re: [Bug 671494] Re: Computer Freezes since Updates
I've already posted all this crap in the ask a question thing. I know nothing about computers, and don't know how to do all this. When I went to the HISTORY area, it doesn't show anything. The updated were done 3 days ago now. And this computer is getting slower and slower and freezing more and more daily. I'm ready to take a hammer to it. How do you uninstall all the updates that were done? Is there a way? Or is there a way to roll it back to another day like Windows did. It's sad, I had less issues with Windows, and I hated them. [Bug 637947] Re: no sound devices on current ES2.0 boards
Following the kernel commit http://kernel.ubuntu.com/git?p=ubuntu /ubuntu- maverick.git;a=commitdiff;h=5469d37bd56cbe8b604e83a8dc769984de5e7437;hp=6b8a624f7c72ac07c28f52371839792d69940c5b you can identify if you're at the proper kernel by probing the driver's name or the long name. The attached patch check for the correct long name before calling alsactl init. This at least fixes the apt-get upgrade problem. ** Patch added: "debdiff-alsa-utils-fix-alsactl-init.patch" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-ti-omap4/+bug/637947/+attachment/1724643/+files/debdiff-alsa-utils-fix-alsactl-init.patch -- no sound devices on current ES2.0 boards https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/637947 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Ok, now "users and groups" is available also in "all applications" menu, if I type "u" to search bar. I created a test account and for this worked immediately. [Bug 437429] Re: No GUI to configure/disable login sound
Bug appears to be due to the GUI representing the wrong default value. If there is no gconf key set for /desktop/gnome/sound/event_sounds the 'System -> Administration -> Login Screen' shows 'Play Login Sound' unchecked, but gconf reports true for the value. To reproduce: # Unset the config key $ sudo -u gdm gconftool-2 --unset /desktop/gnome/sound/event_sounds # gconf will now report true by default $ sudo -u gdm gconftool-2 --get /desktop/gnome/sound/event_sounds true # However the call used by the ubuntu patched GDM will return 'no value' $ sudo gconftool-2 --direct -g /desktop/gnome/sound/event_sounds --config-source=xml:readwrite:/var/lib/gdm/.gconf No value set for `/desktop/gnome/sound/event_sounds' # Opening the 'System -> Administration -> Login Screen' will show 'Play Login Sound' as false The file debian/patches/09_gdmserver_gconf_settings.patch contains the erroneous code, I'm afraid I don't really understand well enough what's going on there to provide a patch. I suspect that it's the default fall through value of false from gdm_settings_get_bool_gconf_value() As a quick fix for users, simply checking and then unchecking the 'Play Login Sound' checkbox in the GUI will explicitly set the value to false, and the login drum sound should be disabled. -- No GUI to configure/disable login sound https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/437429 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Reading some followups and other bug reports, it seems to be caused by the new clipboard management system (introduced as a fix for the bug #170185), as reported in bug #421597 So far these applications are known to randomly trigger an input/output extension (on linux): - FreeRapid Downloader - jDownloader - xfce4-clipman-plugin 1.1.3 + - Netbeans - The original report was this: I'm getting this error when I try to edit a text object created previously with a font that's not available in this system.
