[Bug 570697] [NEW] non-sensical items in context menu for DVD-ROM icons

2010-04-27 Thread Jon Dowland
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

the icon for my DVD drive / an inserted DVD within the "Computer" menu
includes an item "Rename..." which purports to allow me to rename it.
This is nonsensical. If I attempt it, I am greeted with a dialogue
"Sorry, could not rename "CD/DVD Drive: Ubuntu 10.04 i386" to "wtf.04
i386": Operation not supported by backend".

The icon for my DVD drive that appears on the desktop correctly has this item
greyed out. (Why have it at all?) However this icon has an option "Compress..."
which was not present in the "Computer" version of the icon. Attempting this
results in a error dialogue "tar: Ubuntu 10.04 i386.volume: Cannot stat: No
such file or directory
tar: Exiting with failure status due to previous errors" (indeed there is no
.desktop file in ~/Desktop for this launcher, it is a virtual one created on
demand by the insertion of a disc)

Both context menus need pruning to items that make sense for this
particular icon. The least confusing thing would be for the two items,
visually and functionally equivalent, to have identical context menus.

[Bug 570699] [NEW] indicator applet doesn't load on startup

2010-04-27 Thread Amanda Bee
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: indicator-applet

On startup, my indicator applet fails to load in the gnome panel. I
don't get any error messages or alerts, it just doesn't appear.

If I do "killall gnome-panel" it loads fine -- the problem only happens
on startup.

[Bug 570111] Re: Some urls are not fixed by script fix-urls.sh during build.

2010-04-27 Thread Leo Iannacone
Ok, I understood why there are a lot of '.html-' href.

This occurs because if you have these strings to translate:
'aaa': 'www'
'aaa#bbb': 'www#zzz'

If you execute the replacing of the first one, you'll have every aaa translated:
href="www"
href="www#bbb"

So when you looking for second one you'll never match.

The solution at this problem is simple, in fix-urls.sh you could replace all
urls in this way:
OLD ONES:
s#url1#url2#g

NEW ONES:
s#"url1"#"urls"#g

This make sure that when you replace some urls like:
href="aaa"
You'll translate just it, and an href="aaa#bbb" will remains the same.

There is a more simple solution in fix-urls.py, just remplace this line:
body = body.replace(""url, urls[url] % {'lang' : language})
in this one:
body = body.replace('\"%s\"' % url , '\"%s\"' % (urls[url] %
{'lang' : language}))

So, after a rebuild I saw several untraslated urls:

[Bug 569729] Re: functional button is not workin with Ubuntu 10.04 in sony vaio - regress

2010-04-27 Thread Jeremy Foshee
Hi JarekJ83,

If you could also please test the latest upstream kernel available that would
be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue.
Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the
upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be
done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the
bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text.
Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.

[This is an automated message. Apologies if it has reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

This is concerning - ureadahead is being killed by the out of memory
killer because it's slurping up too many pages into memory for the fast
boot.

This machine is reporting only 768MB of free memory, however it has 1GB
memory installed. Memtest also records 768MB of memory. So, something is
a bit strange. Is 256MB of memory being used for on-board integrated
graphics memory or is the BIOS e820 call reporting the wrong memory
size?

--- end cking quote

Note Colin was right - 256MB memory was reserved for the onboard
graphics.

[Bug 570625] Re: fix kernel-wedge to accept all modules as optional

2010-04-27 Thread Tim Gardner
I think the offending code is in commands/check:

#!/bin/sh -e
empty=
for pkg in $(dh_listpackages -s | grep -- '-di$'); do
if [ -z "$(find debian/$pkg -type f)" ]; then
echo "$pkg will be empty" >&2
empty=1
fi
done
if [ "$empty" ]; then
exit 1
fi

I think we can get by with just emitting a warning and not returning an
error.

[Bug 570700] [NEW] lirc-modules-source-0.8.6-0ubuntu4: lirc_dev-2.6.33.patch breaks lirc-nct677x-src

After applying the lirc_dev-2.6.33.patch, the 3d party driver for the Nuvoton
677x is no longer loadable. It compiles fine, but complains about incorrect
version upon modprobe:

After removing the above mentioned patch to lirc, both compilation and modprobe

the video problems.

Re: [Bug 541492] Re: MASTER: [i845] GPU lockup (apport-crash) (Should KMS be blacklisted?)

2010-04-27 Thread Geir Ove Myhr
> With 3ubuntu5 should KMS default on or off for an i845?

Jerry, the KMS defaults are set in the kernel, not the DDX driver.
With 2.6.32-20 KMS was on by default, and with 2.6.32-21 it was turned
off on i830, i845, and i855.

One complicating factor is that xserver-xorg-video-intel (the DDX
driver) at version 2.9.1-3ubuntu3 and earlier included a file that
would override the kernel default. Therefore, with 3ubuntu3 and
earlier, KMS would be on by default for any kernel, while 3ubuntu4 and
later will let the kernel decide.

[Bug 390677] Re: Hidden line during install wizard

2010-04-27 Thread Oliver Grawert
i see it on a netbook omap install (1280x720 by default) and notice that
the line shows up fine in english locale while its hidden in german.
there are not more lines or extra linewidth in the german UI version. to
me it looks more like a missing part in the german translation than a
size issue.

[Bug 570714] [NEW] Font display scrambled when scrolling

2010-04-27 Thread David Megginson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: emacs23

When scrolling through a text document or typing in the echo area, fonts
often appear scrambled initially, with characters printed on top of
each-other. After several seconds of inactivity, the display corrects
itself, but the problem will reappear with additional scrolling or
typing.

Observed:
- full screen and smaller window
- font-lock on and off
- monospaced and proportional fonts
- with current ~/.emacs file moved out of the way and no .Xdefaults or
.Xresources to affect display

[Bug 570268] Re: Brasero crashes with file name starting with %

2010-04-27 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a ".crash" file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.
If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 570720] [NEW] turning off attached TV disables it

2010-04-27 Thread Aaron Bentley
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

The sole monitor attached to this computer is Toshiba 42XV54SU
television. When I turn the television off, and later turn it back on,
the computer display does not appear (other inputs, such as cable TV do
work).

The only way I have found to restore the display without restarting X is this
script:
#!/bin/sh
DISPLAY=:0.0 xrandr --output DVI-1 --off
DISPLAY=:0.0 xrandr --output DVI-1 --auto

(I run it from another computer using SSH, since I can't see what I'm
doing.)

I have disabled the screen saver and the Power Managment setting "Put
display to sleep when inactive for" is set to Never

I used this setup under Jaunty and Karmic for the lives of those
distros, and did not experience this issue. It seems to be new in
Lucid. (OTOH, 3D acceleration works in Lucid for the first time, and I
have Desktop Effects enabled.)

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

On a Lenovo S10-2 netbook, I have installed Kubuntu 9.10, and have
upgraded the kernel to 2.6.31-17. The system can do
suspension/hibernation when the lid is closed, or through the Powerdevil
applet of KDE, but not through the Fn+F1 (on which a "moon" icon meaning
  "sleep" is present) hotkey combination.

- What is even worse is that, these a few days even suspending/hibernating
- through closing the lid or the soft button of Powerdevil applet is not
- working either, but I guess this belongs to a separate bug. I'm not sure
- which is more radical, only hoping that someone could help me debugging
- these situations. I'll post all the logs and information as required. If
- anyone find that this bug should be classified under a more specific
- package, please just move this as proper. Thanks in advance!

I agree 95C seems quite high - i had thought it kicked in earlier than

[Bug 570725] [NEW] [amd64] Acroread browser plugin does not work, black screen when trying to open PDFs

2010-04-27 Thread Alexander Jones
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: acroread

Probably an nspluginwrapper problem. This is a massive pain in the arse
to "normal users" because there is no obvious way to "download" the PDF
for offline viewing, especially in these crap virtual learning
environments that never give you real links to documents anyway.

I suggest if this is reproducable by everyone (it's certainly been that
way on both my AMD64 machines in my time), that we drop the
nspluginwrapper and deal with the fact that acroread's browser plugin
does not work on AMD64, allowing the browser to download the file and
open it locally.

[Bug 512660] Re: [LENOVO 2007C4U] late resume failure

2010-04-27 Thread Jeremy Foshee
Hi toddjohnson,

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it
recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the
latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal
(Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach
updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 512660

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be
great.

It may be worthwhile for you to see if there is a BIOS update. i know that
we try to keep up with changes in the BIOs on hardware that we detect. It is
possible that the issues you are seeing are from us expecting a newer BIOS.
