[Bug 444302] [NEW] Sync guichan 0.8.2-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main).

2009-10-06 Thread Thorbjørn Lindeijer
Public bug reported:

Please sync guichan 0.8.2-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main).

0.8.2 should be binary and source compatible with 0.8.1 (tested with tmw
package and by code review).

Changelog since current karmic version 0.8.1-6:

guichan (0.8.2-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * New upstream release.
- We do not need the config.{sub, guess} hacks anymore.

 -- Patrick Matthäi Mon, 05 Oct 2009 21:29:21
+0200

guichan (0.8.1-7) unstable; urgency=low

  * Bump Standards-Version to 3.8.3 (no changes needed).
  * Add autotools-dev to build depends and use up to date config.{sub,guess}
scripts. This fixes an FTBFS on avr32.
Closes: #549478

[Bug 440391] Re: package linux-image-2.6.28-15-generic 2.6.28-15.52 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2009-10-06 Thread Uli Fahrenberg
Found the problem: My /boot is not mounted during normal system use:

$ cat /etc/fstab |grep boot
# /boot was on /dev/sda1 during installation
UUID=38d3680f-7c05-40fd-a409-2c4d6460a732 /boot   ext2
relatime,noauto0 2

Doing
$ sudo mount /boot

before
$ sudo aptitude full-upgrade

fixed the issue.

Ideally of course, the post-install script should not assume that /boot
is mounted...

[Bug 239758] Re: isAnyWirelessPoweredOn() -> $DEVICE/device/power/state and rf_kill nonexistant

2009-10-06 Thread Steve Langasek
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and help to improve
Ubuntu.

Is this still a problem with the final version of the Ubuntu 8.10 or
Ubuntu 9.04 releases? Given the date when this was confirmed, the
intrepid problem may have been bug #267875. If the bug *is* still
present in later Ubuntu releases, then it's a bug in the kernel driver
for not exposing the standard rfkill interface, not a bug in the acpi-
support package.

[Bug 440737] Re: [karmic] messages before xsplash starts

2009-10-06 Thread Rob Speer
I get a black screen with a blinking cursor for 6 seconds or so (it used
to say "Starting up..." before I upgraded to GRUB 2). Then I get boot
messages that slowly appear in Ubuntu's console font. Only late into the
boot process do I get the xsplash progress spinner.

I'm attaching the boot messages I get.

[Bug 435324] Re: xsplash should crossfade during boot

2009-10-06 Thread Rob Speer
I have a similar issue, except that I wouldn't describe the transition
as "abrupt" because that would imply it happened quickly.

Here's what I get: xsplash disappears, and I'm left with a black screen
with two white bars where the GNOME panels will be. 15-20 seconds pass
before the desktop background or any icons appear.

[Bug 355666] Re: [To Be Filled By O.E.M. To Be Filled By O.E.M.] suspend/resume failure [non-free: nvidia]

2009-10-06 Thread mrbn
hello,

i've loaded the image, burned it and had tried to install it to an second
system on my harddisk with ext4. Installprocess finished sucessfull and i tried
to boot it - but nothing happened (just "no system press any key"). i tried to
install it with ext3, but the same again. and i tried it with totaly formating
this partition (sda10) and then installing, but again the same.
now i'm thinking this is a problem with my way to boot this second system, ive
doneit all the time with:

root(hd0,9)
chainloader +1

and there ist then the grub from the second system without interfering
with my main system.

and it works fine with 8.04, 8.10 and 9.04 as second system. but it seems to
not working with 9.10...
so what do you think?
greetings
michael

[Bug 260329] Re: sleep.sh exits silently in some cases

2009-10-06 Thread Steve Langasek
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and help to improve
Ubuntu.

The /etc/acpi/sleep.sh script is intended to be called non-interactively
in response to an ACPI event, so the output of these commands isn't
going to be sent anywhere helpful; so I don't think we should add the
extra echo commands.

[Bug 444308] [NEW] gpm complains about critical power level at 100% battery

2009-10-06 Thread steehle
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

I'm running latest packages (2.28.0-0ubuntu1) on Karmic, and my laptop
is a Compaq Presario X1000 (X1007EA to be precise). My battery is fully
charged, but when I unplug external power it takes about 1-2 minutes
before gpm claims that the power is critically low and will hibernate
computer in 4 minutes. (Even though gpm reports battery level at about
98-99%). If I don't connect external power gpm will continue with the
hibernation after 4 minutes, which is quite annoying since I can't take
my laptop with me as I use to do.

[Bug 444310] [NEW] telepathy asks for my keychain password on startup

2009-10-06 Thread Rob Speer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: empathy

Every time I start my computer, I get a window telling me that
"/usr/lib/empathy/mission-control-5" wants access to my keyring, which
is locked.

(I'm paraphrasing here; the window blocks me from entering text into
other applications, so I couldn't get the message verbatim.)

I don't even seem to get logged into IM for my trouble. This is an
annoying startup experience.

[Bug 442679] Re: Ubuntu 9.10 Beta doesn't boot from usb-attached hard drive, exits to busybox console

2009-10-06 Thread Daniel
I've got some interesting news.

I installed Ubuntu 9.04 and then I did a full upgrade to 9.10
development branch. So now I have grub1 instead of grub2 for
bootstrapping. Then on menu.lst I have references to two different
kernels:

2.6.31-11-generic
2.6.28-11-generic

Well, it happens that if I try to boot with the 2.6.31 the system waits
with the message following message:

"Boot from (hd0,0) ext3 f795cdf6-25af-4d66-bb0d-988d9ec1d656
Starting up..."

And then after a few seconds it exits again to busybox.

However, booting with the 2.6.28 kernel is a success, system starts and
everything works as expected.

So now I'm considering this as a kernel bug instead of a grub2 bug!!

[Bug 308705] Re: high cpu usage with et131x

Only 1 interrupt per second by et131x_error_timer_handler.

Added it via module-assistant.

I had problems previously with Ubuntu 7.10 onwards. Tested unsuccesfully
et131x-open, et131x.sf.net source, manual timer tuning as instructed
around bugs.launcpad.net et131x-related... Now it works.

[Bug 397734] Re: can't eject unmounted cdrom with hardware button

2009-10-06 Thread Martin Pitt
Discussion result in upstream bug:

--
I think the kernel defaults should lock all used drives by default, and should
not be touched at bootup, and thhings like liveCD rootfs and similar setups
should not be unlocked by a global default setting.

I think we might want to unlock individual drives though, if our own services
have applied the policy and mounted a media. I expect:
  ioctl(fd, CDROM_LOCKDOOR, 0);
would unlock only the single drive we are currently handling, and would not
touch other drives, or drives which have media which is mounted manually or by
a system-wide configuration.

you very much.

You can close this bug unless someone else is still having problems.

[Bug 260331] Re: sleep.sh lacks documentation

This isn't going to get documented:
 - it's an internal interface, not something that end users should be calling

 - the acpi-support package is being phased out, so this script (along with the

[Bug 436726] Re: FFe: Please sync libtheora 1.1.1-1 from debian (unstable)

** Summary changed:

- FFe: Please sync libtheora 1.1.0-1 from debian (unstable)
+ FFe: Please sync libtheora 1.1.1-1 from debian (unstable)

** Description changed:

Theora 1.1 is a major quality/stability improvement over 1.0, and
essential for making the FLOSS ecosystem work better. More information
about the new release at http://theora.org/news/ - see also Christopher
  Blizzard's post at http://hacks.mozilla.org/2009/09/theora-1-1-released/
for the quality difference et cetera.

1.1 is should be of little risk and offer much better video quality, and
stability of bitrate / file sizes for those encoding videos to this free
format. 1.0 is essentially broken in being able to deliver the wanted
file size. Decoding wise the bit stream format of Theora has been stable
already for years, so there is no risk involved in the playback part.

. Ubuntu has currently no Ubuntu-specific changes in libtheora package.

Theora 1.1 has been tested both via earlier PPA in this bug report's

[Bug 412063] Re: [karmic] missing aac encoder

2009-10-06 Thread Doug McMahon
While I must apologize for the duplicate of this bug ( the reason for removing
libfaac (non-free) should have been obvious to me, it still begs the question
of what is the position on native aac encoding that was enabled in ffmpeg,
just 2 days later than the current source in karmic.
enabled since ffmpeg -r 19375, released on 07/08

My inclination is there may be an update to ffmpeg in karmic, if so some
consideration should be given to using a newr -r ( r-19777 would be a
very good choice

[Bug 443321] Re: drbd devices not automatically mounted via /etc/fstab even witn _netdev

2009-10-06 Thread Ari Mujunen
I mentioned that this affects jaunty-server, too, but I forgot to
describe how. By default the server edition doesn't rely on "if-up.d"
mechanism but relies on /etc/rcS.d/S40networking to bring up what is
defined in /etc/network/interfaces and then gives
/etc/rcS.d/S45mountnfs.sh a chance to do NFS mounts and mounts labeled
with '_netdev' mount option. The default startup of drbd in
/etc/rc2.d/S70drbd comes again much later in the sequence.

I originally planned to enter this as a "Wishlist" item and not a bug
(but ubuntu-bug didn't let me do that) since I fully understand the
complications in setups where drbd device sync / pri/sec / mounts must
be handled by a HA system like heartbeat. I was kind of wondering if
there were a safe way to enable the simple functionality for the cases
where /etc/fstab mounts with '_netdev' (only on one machine, the
"primary one") could work "out of the box"? I would expect HA cases not
to rely on /etc/fstab in any case, though there might be other '_netdev'
mounts. Checking for 'drbd.*_netdev' mount lines in /etc/fstab, maybe?

In any case, I'm really happy with drbd functionality and robustness in my
current setup where I run a three-disk raid0 in my desktop as '/home' and have
drbd mirroring that onto a single 2TB disk in a small server. It has survived
r8169 driver timeouts, r8168 driver giving bad data (md5 checksums enabled!),
any network problem or up/down sequence I've thrown at it and I have _never_
had to reboot either machine because of drbd, it has always "obeyed" the
'drbdadm' and not "locked up". And the performance is great! :-)
I hope you can make the transition to DKMS for the kernel module (not being
included in the mainline Ubuntu kernel anymore) a smooth experience!

[Bug 444218] Re: Software-center does not work in kubuntu

Thanks for your bugreport.

The problem is that the versionized dependency on aptdaemon was too
weak, I corrected that in my branch now. In the meantime, please upgrade
to the latest aptdaemon in karmic, that should fix the problem.

[Bug 273078] Re: [PATCH] additional state-funcs for Asus LEDs

2009-10-06 Thread Steve Langasek
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and help to improve
Ubuntu.

The acpi-support package is being phased out, so I don't think we should
be adding these new functions to it. Furthermore, bluetooth / wireless
LEDs are expected to be controlled by the kernel, and not require manual
updates from userspace; if you have situations where you need to toggle
the LEDs manually to get them set correctly, I suggest you file a bug
against the linux package.

I don't know if this matters, but I had the same problem upgrading from

After unsuccessfully having tried all tips I found on the Internet, I
reinstalled jaunty and wireless worked out of the box.

Something wrong with the upgrade process?

[Bug 444321] [NEW] after resuming from suspend, nm-gnome shows network disconnected when it is connected

2009-10-06 Thread Scott Dylewski
Public bug reported:

after resuming from suspend, the network applet shows the spinning wheel
as it tries to connect and the black image appears showing the network
"disconnected" from the wireless network. Once the network finally
becomes connected, then the black image/logo appears again, but it is
still "disconnected". this image persists several seconds (5?) after
the network is connected according to the icon in the menu bar. The
black image should show the "connected" logo and text after the network
connects.
