[Bug 363969] Re: I cant install updates! BrokenCount Err!

2009-04-20 Thread Rafik Ouerchefani
Hello,

Thanks for taking time to report this issue.
Lets try to reproduce the issue. We first delete the downloaded package then do
update as usual. Could you please run the following commands in a terminal and
attach the output ? (copy/paste everything into a text file and attach it here).

sudo rm /var/cache/apt/archives/perl_5.10.0-11.1ubuntu2.2_i386.deb
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade

Thanks.

[Bug 356631] Re: CD-ROM tray closes automatically after eject

2009-04-20 Thread Martin Pitt
So the kernel bug is that the SCSI command to read CD information does
not set those counts to 0 for blank media. I leave it open.

Instead of modifying the udev rules, ./extras/cdrom_id/cdrom_id.c,
cd_media_info() could also zero those values for media_status=="blank",
so that these numbers aren't printed in the first place.

[Bug 321792] Re: update-manager very slow on asus eee box 202

2009-04-20 Thread bsh
ok, last time the kernel update screwed my network, i had to use a keyboard &
monitor to fix it (instead of ssh/vnc, which didn't work without the network
coming up...)
so i had the chance of trying this out too. it looks like it works fine with a
monitor attached. but it is still terribly slow with vnc.
can't it be that somehow the update manager waits for or synchronizes it's
progress bar to screen refrshes or something? that's the only thing i can think
of, since vnc refresh rate is much slower than a monitor's refresh, but i don't
think it's a vnc bug, since verything else works fast with vnc.
or maybe it doesn't like to be run on display :1 instead of :0?

[Bug 357369] Re: Typing error in version numbers

2009-04-20 Thread Matthew East
That change constitutes a string change. It's *very* unorthodox to do
such a string change just a few days before final release, in particular
without giving the translators a change to see and translate the new
string.

I suppose that if translations are not going to be shipped with xubuntu-
docs for Jaunty then the translators could be notified of the change
after the release and translations could then be updated; but it's still
very odd to make a change like this in the release week.

[Bug 360891] Re: fatal errors during install

2009-04-20 Thread Martin Pitt
Please note that using echo is not a good method. You should display a
debconf note. But since this is a server thing, and it avoids package
install failure, it looks like a less intrusive bandaid patch.

[Bug 364002] [NEW] Cannot install Kolourpaint4

2009-04-20 Thread dotancohen
Public bug reported:

I am sorry for bothering the devs with a Kubuntu-specific issue, but it
is a problem for us Kubuntu-using minority. On a fresh install of
Kubuntu 9.04 RC amd64 from the alternative install disk, the
"kolourpaint4" application cannot be installed:

$ sudo apt-get install kolourpaint4

The following NEW packages will be installed:

[Bug 364001] [NEW] Lots of icons on top of each other

2009-04-20 Thread Shahar Or
Public bug reported:

Dear friends,

When new icons are created on the desktop, for plugged in devices and
ones that are created by programs like Firefox downloading a file and so
on, these icons are put all in the same position, on top of each other.

I think that any means of placing new icons on the desktop will be
better than the way its currently done.

Many blessings.

Hello,

The available wireless networks are not listed in that window. Simply
click (left button) on the network manager icon and there you will see
the networks. (See this screenshot :

Select the network and it will connect or ask for the password then
connect.

[Bug 347972] Re: Does not work with Shiretoko Web Browser (Firefox 3.5)

2009-04-20 Thread Micah Gersten
Sorry for the delay, here's my feedback:
I get the attached Javascript error when I open FF 3.5preb4

When I click the home icon, it takes me to the ubuntu home page like
before.

When I try to use the plugin, it says Shiretoko cannot find addons.
When I click browse ubuntu extensions, I did manage to install the
launchpad extension for FF, but it doesn't seem to work. I think it
might be a problem with that extension though.

[Bug 363997] Re: jaunty rc install from flash disk fails

2009-04-20 Thread Igor
i attempted to create a flash installer manually by:
installing syslinux on a new fat32 partition on the disk
copying the contents of the iso to the flash disk
moving isolinux to syslinux and isolinux/isolinux.cfg to syslinux/syslinux.cfg

the disk boots fine but again drops me into busybox after some unspecified
failure. this time, however, dmesg reveals a number of messages like so:
isofs: changing to secondary root
kjournald starting. commmit interval 5 seconds
ext3-fs: mounted filesystem with ordered data mode
iso 9660 extensions: microsoft joliet level 1

and this just loops around like that for awhile (> scrollback buffer).
i'm not sure where the ext3 filesystem is coming from unless the
installer is failing to do something with a partition already on the
disk of the target system?

Public bug reported:

loads up to their home screen with no problems. I then load a video, I have
tested both ogg theora and wmv video and then the application crashes and
quits. I would normally expect it to play the video.

[Bug 364006] [NEW] iwl3945: wireless stopped working after resume [jaunty]

2009-04-20 Thread Marius Gedminas

[Bug 294318] Re: Intrepid video problem triggered either by running Nautilus or loading Nvidia drivers

2009-04-20 Thread John
Hi Jonathon

Unfortunately I chucked out the live CD and even if I had it I would
need a some handholding to get the log. So don't really think I can
help much more.

good to know though that bugs do get followed up.

I. I tried a 9.04 beta live CD on the same box which ran just fine and seemed
snappier all round than 8.04

2. As the community grows, I suspect there will be more like myself -
reporting bugs but little able to help those like yourself (even though
we are raising genuine concerns and are not just wanting to have a
rant). I reported on the basis that if others are getting the same
problem (a show stopper for the novice) and report (however sketchily)
at least it is on somebody's radar

[Bug 293176] Re: Ubuntu 8.10 doesn't support logitech and labtec webcam

2009-04-20 Thread Shane Kerr
I am also having problems, using Jaunty beta.

Like Chol, I am also using one of the older Logitech QuickCam USB
models:

Bus 001 Device 003: ID 046d:0870 Logitech, Inc. QuickCam Express

When I run gstreamer-properties, select the "Video" tab, select the "Video for
Linux (v4l)" plugin with the device (listed as "Unknown"), and click "Test", I
get a dialogue box that says:

Video for Linux (v4l): Could not get/set settings from/on resource.

In the terminal I ran it from, I see:

gstreamer-properties-Message: Error running pipeline 'Video for Linux (v4l)':
Could not get/set settings from/on resource. [v4l_calls.c(198): gst_v4l_open
(): /GstPipeline:pipeline0/GstV4lSrc:v4lsrc3:

I can look at the device via "qcset", as follows:

[Bug 364008] [NEW] Fn + F5/6 Volume crashes

2009-04-20 Thread Vinícius Ramon Fontanela
Public bug reported:

I'm using Ubuntu 9.04 RC but the same thing happens since Hardy Heron.
In my laptop when I press Fn + F5 or F6 to increase or decrease volume,
even with a light touch, it acts like I holded it pressed, the volume
turns down, no matter what I do, and then the pc stop answering to the
keyboard. And it keeps like this until I restart X or press ctrl+alt+f2
and then f7. I have no idea on where is the problem, but when I used KDE
it didnt happen. I posted it in various foruns, but no answer, some
people reported the same problem, but no sollution.

[Bug 364009] [NEW] ubiquity support to override default frontend via kernel option

2009-04-20 Thread Roberto C. Morano
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubiquity

Hello,

I'm working on Guadalinex a derivated Ubuntu distro, and we have been in the
need to override the ubiquity frontend used when the 'only-ubiquity' is used as
kernel option.
By default, it uses gtk_ui, but we use a customized one, so I have added
support to '/etc/init.d/ubiquity' to parse a 'ubiquity-ui=frontend' option and
set it as the frontend used. If no 'ubiquity-ui' option is specified, the
default one is used.

I attach a patch for this file. Hope it (at least the idea itself :) can
be included in further versions of ubiquity, since I think is a good
idea for derivatives :]

@Jorrit: Thanks, this is helpful, but it would be nice to get the full

the upgrade and the full resolver log (e.g. why libgnome2-0 was not
marked for upgrade earlier). Is its ok to mail the logs to me
personally?

[Bug 348731] Re: kernel freeze in 2.6.28-11

2009-04-20 Thread Rocko
My main laptop just froze again shortly after I resumed it (syslog
attached; it crashed between 15:36 and 15:41, but there's nothing in the
logs as usual and I didn't have the ethernet attached to catch the
panic).

The laptop is running kernel 2.6.28-11-generic #42 now, which is
supposed to fix bug #348836, so that can't be the problem.

The only other recent change was that earlier I uninstalled l-b-m
because the wireless keeps dropping out on an 11N network so I have been
using the standard wireless compatibility stack.

Jaunty is definitely not ready for release with kernel panics like this
one happening.

[Bug 363905] Re: rhythmbox crashed with segfault at 1f ip b6e5f5eb sp ...

2009-04-20 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal
with as a '.crash' file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report
a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport
in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.

If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.
I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently.
Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 364011] [NEW] Bad string length

2009-04-20 Thread Gregory BELLIER
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libinotify-ocaml-dev

Ubuntu version concerned : jaunty and older
Severity : important
Found in version 0.7
Fixed in version 0.9

Hi guys !

I filled a report on the Debian's bug tracking and I'm now reporting it here.
You can find the full report which is now closed here :
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=521870

This bug is in the package libinotify-ocaml-dev v0.7 and older version which
means jaunty and older are concerned.
I don't know if you have time to patch your tree before releasing jaunty.

Anyway, there is a bug in the file inotify.ml.

There is a temporary buffer made of lots of \0.
The problem is that we create a new string based on this buffer. The len
is wrong so the fresh string contains too much \0.
For example: say you're monitoring a directory then you create a new
directory named "a".
Because of this event, inotify will notify that a new directory has been
created. Its name length ? 16 chars.
That's right 16 chars instead of 1. I noticed this error because of a
badly working concat.

I patched the sources in order to print the error :
ocamlc unix.cma -I /usr/lib/ocaml/3.10.2/inotify/ inotify.cma -o
test_err test.inotify.ml

mkdir /tmp/dev

./test_err /tmp/dev 2> hello2.txt

mkdir /tmp/dev/a

cat hello2.txt
We're in inotify_stubs.c
# bytes returned from ioctl: 32
>From here, we're in inotify.ml
# toread (it's what we get from inotify_stubs) : 32
Length of string 'a' = 16
Let's iterate on this string to print all chars :
'a'''''''''''''''''''''''
''''''''

As you can see with the '', there are too much \0 in the string but I
think the line "Length of string 'a' = 16" speaks for itself.

I've been in contact with the bind's author of inotify -> ocaml and he
released the 0.9 (see attachment) as a patch for this bug.

Regards,
Gregory "Dest" BELLIER.
