[Bug 356631] Re: CD-ROM tray closes automatically after eject
So the kernel bug is that the SCSI command to read CD information does not set those counts to 0 for blank media. I leave it open. [Bug 321792] Re: update-manager very slow on asus eee box 202
ok, last time the kernel update screwed my network, i had to use a keyboard & monitor to fix it (instead of ssh/vnc, which didn't work without the network coming up...) so i had the chance of trying this out too. it looks like it works fine with a monitor attached. but it is still terribly slow with vnc. can't it be that somehow the update manager waits for or synchronizes it's progress bar to screen refrshes or something? that's the only thing i can think of, since vnc refresh rate is much slower than a monitor's refresh, but i don't think it's a vnc bug, since verything else works fast with vnc. or maybe it doesn't like to be run on display :1 instead of :0? -- update-manager very slow on asus eee box 202 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/321792 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

That change constitutes a string change. Hi Jonathon Unfortunately I chucked out the live CD and even if I had it I would need a some handholding to get the log. I tried a 9.04 beta live CD on the same box which ran just fine and seemed snappier all round than 8.04 2. As the community grows, I suspect there will be more like myself - reporting bugs but little able to help those like yourself (even though we are raising genuine concerns and are not just wanting to have a rant). [Bug 364009] [NEW] ubiquity support to override default frontend via kernel option
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: ubiquity Hello, I'm working on Guadalinex a derivated Ubuntu distro, and we have been in the need to override the ubiquity frontend used when the 'only-ubiquity' is used as kernel option. By default, it uses gtk_ui, but we use a customized one, so I have added support to '/etc/init.d/ubiquity' to parse a 'ubiquity-ui=frontend' option and set it as the frontend used. If no 'ubiquity-ui' option is specified, the default one is used. I attach a patch for this file. Hope it (at least the idea itself :) can be included in further versions of ubiquity, since I think is a good idea for derivatives :] ** Affects: ubiquity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- ubiquity support to override default frontend via kernel option https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/364009 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 348731] Re: kernel freeze in 2.6.28-11
My main laptop just froze again shortly after I resumed it (syslog attached; it crashed between 15:36 and 15:41, but there's nothing in the logs as usual and I didn't have the ethernet attached to catch the panic). The laptop is running kernel 2.6.28-11-generic #42 now, which is supposed to fix bug #348836, so that can't be the problem. The only other recent change was that earlier I uninstalled l-b-m because the wireless keeps dropping out on an 11N network so I have been using the standard wireless compatibility stack. [Bug 363905] Re: rhythmbox crashed with segfault at 1f ip b6e5f5eb sp ...
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a '.crash' file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report you wish to submit. If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using /usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. [Bug 364011] [NEW] Bad string length
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: libinotify-ocaml-dev Ubuntu version concerned : jaunty and older Severity : important Found in version 0.7 Fixed in version 0.9 Hi guys ! I filled a report on the Debian's bug tracking and I'm now reporting it here. You can find the full report which is now closed here : http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=521870 This bug is in the package libinotify-ocaml-dev v0.7 and older version which means jaunty and older are concerned. I don't know if you have time to patch your tree before releasing jaunty. Anyway, there is a bug in the file inotify.ml. There is a temporary buffer made of lots of \0. The problem is that we create a new string based on this buffer. The len is wrong so the fresh string contains too much \0. For example: say you're monitoring a directory then you create a new directory named "a". Because of this event, inotify will notify that a new directory has been created. Its name length ? 16 chars. That's right 16 chars instead of 1. I noticed this error because of a badly working concat. I patched the sources in order to print the error : ocamlc unix.cma -I /usr/lib/ocaml/3.10.2/inotify/ inotify.cma -o test_err test.inotify.ml mkdir /tmp/dev ./test_err /tmp/dev 2> hello2.txt mkdir /tmp/dev/a cat hello2.txt We're in inotify_stubs.c # bytes returned from ioctl: 32 >From here, we're in inotify.ml # toread (it's what we get from inotify_stubs) : 32 Length of string 'a' = 16 Let's iterate on this string to print all chars : 'a''''''''''''''''''''''' '''''''' As you can see with the '', there are too much \0 in the string but I think the line "Length of string 'a' = 16" speaks for itself. I've been in contact with the bind's author of inotify -> ocaml and he released the 0.9 (see attachment) as a patch for this bug. [Bug 363438] Re: does not draw desktop by default
changing to an user question rather than a bug then, the user configuration is not part of upgrades and that's rather a configuraiton issue than a bug ** Changed in: nautilus (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Invalid ** Converted to question: https://answers.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+question/68007 -- does not draw desktop by default https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/363438 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 363418] Re: KDE locking up when performing various actions
On a brand new install of the same system (same install disc: Kubuntu 9.04 RC amd64 alternative) on the same hardware (Dell Inspiron E1505 / 6400 Intel Duo Core, 2 GB RAM, ATI x1400 Mobile Radeon) the system locks up randomly after no more than 10 minutes of use. Sometimes the screen blanks on lockup, sometimes not. Sometimes it locks up so bad that Alt- SysRq-B will not restart it. After one lockup the user's KDE settings were gone: the panel was back to the default configuration and the wallpaper had reverted to the stock wallpaper. -- KDE locking up when performing various actions https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/363418 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
