[Bug 356065] [NEW] Gnome 2.26: No icon for window selector

2009-04-06 Thread Zied ALAYA
Public bug reported:

I m using Ubuntu 9.04 (development branch) .

I added the widow selector to the panel.

When I start the session there is no specific icon as you can see in
attachment (in the top of the screen).

When I open windows and applications, the behavior of the widow
selector come to normal one.

To reproduce this bug, you will need those packages:

gtk2-engines-qtcurve
kde-style-qtcurve

I purged them from my system, reconfigured KDE's appearance and this bug
disappeared.

[Bug 354522] Re: espeak sound doesn't play correctly

2009-04-06 Thread Alain Kalker
The problem does seem to be related to portaudio.
I have rebuilt espeak against portaudio v18 (it currently uses v19), and got
espeak to speak without too many hiccups.
I have tested it with orca, while navigating apps and webpages and listening
for longer periods, without any crashes.
Every so often there appears to be a very short stutter at the beginning of a
sentence, when espeak hasn't spoken for a while.

Please try my rebuilt packages at my PPA:

https://launchpad.net/~miki4242/+archive/ppa

Any feedback is very welcome.

[Bug 356068] [NEW] various control keys become stuck in searchandrescue

2009-04-06 Thread Koterpillar
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: searchandrescue

"Search and rescue" is unplayable due to various keys becoming stuck,
such as arrows, view change keys and so on.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Launch Search and rescue.
2. Begin a mission.
3. Press F3.

Expected result:
View switches to outside the helicopter and stays so.

Actual result:
View switches to outside the helicopter and starts quickly cycling between
helicopter and some building, turning the screen into a mess.
After closing the game, same F3 key gets sent to whatever application is
active, for example, Firefox will open the search bar.

Similar things happen with other keys. For example, F1 key starts
cycling between help screens and, upon closing game, opens a lot of help
windows in whatever application becomes active (for example, a lot of
gnome-help windows).

[Bug 356071] [NEW] Wi-Fi WAP/WAP2 Connection Failure

2009-04-06 Thread Jason Cruickshank
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu Desktop 9.04 Beta

Ralink Technology, Corp. 802.11n wireless card will not connect to
wireless network if WAP/WAP2 security is used. It will properly ask for
password and attempt to connect but always fail. Rebooted router
several times, tried changing password, no change in result. Card will
properly connect if no security is used. Installed all available
updates as of Saturday morning but no change in result.

This is still an upgrade from Ubuntu Desktop 8.10 since in that version

[Bug 356069] [NEW] after installing, I log in, and can't proceed past blank tan screen.

2009-04-06 Thread tkearn5000
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

Version: 8.10

When I first installed ubuntu, I could not proceed past the login
screen. After searching online, I found a fix for this that involved
deleting compiz and compiz core. I had to hit ctr alt F1 on the login
screen, login to command mode, then delete the files. When I restarted
the computer, I had no other problems.

I later found out that my graphics card is blacklisted, and can't run
the visual effects. I have also seen a number of people on the ubuntu
form with the same issue. It would be nice if ubuntu would start up with
the 3D graphics turned off for people with blacklisted cards. That would
avoid this problem completely.

Binary package hint: vlc

If you have installed k/ubuntu-restricted-extras it is not possible to
install the build dependencies of vlc with "sudo apt-get build-dep vlc".

$ sudo apt-get build-dep vlc
[sudo] password for tim:
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
E: Build-dependencies for vlc could not be satisfied.

The stripped libraries are preventing the standard libraries from
installation so it doesn't work. I guess the easiest solution for this
is to use stripped libraries as an alternative for compiling so
dependency build should still be possible or to add a block that while
running build-dep the stripped libraries are removed instead of posting
an uninformative message.

I am using current Jaunty and had tested this issue also with a current
daily live cd. It also effects Kubuntu.

[Bug 314038] Re: Integrated video interface is broken in Jaunty

2009-04-06 Thread unggnu

The problem was k/ubuntu-restricted-extras which installs some unstripped
libraries. If they are installed you couldn't install vlc build dependencies.

I have reported this issue under Bug #356076.

Thanks, but i want portaudio19 working, because i have program which depends on
19 version (i build it from source)
Also, "to speak without too many hiccups" - is confusing to me. i would like to
work with clear voice, as it was a week ago.

Again thanks for your time!

[Bug 356081] [NEW] x2x Mouse stuck in corner

2009-04-06 Thread Willem Ligtenberg
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 337926 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/337926

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: x2x

My mouse pointer is stuck in the upper left corner of the computer that
does not have the mouse and keyboard attached. The mouse and keyboard
work fine on the computer which has them attached.

This is how I use x2x:

>From the computer with mouse and keyboard I ssh -X to my laptop. (I want
to control the laptop with the keyboard and mouse from the desktop
computer) There in the ssh I type: x2x -to :0 -west

This has worked for me while using ubuntu 8.10. However upgrading to
jaunty 9.04, the mouse got stuck in the upper left corner of the laptop.

The keyboard however works fine. Both computers run 9.04 ubuntu.

Version: 1.27.svn.20060501-4 (according to ubuntu)

I have tried it also with new x2x versions from the website both 1.27
and 1.30beta. But it still persists.

This bug might be related to:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/vino/+bug/337926
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-mouse/+bug/321444

After reading those bug descriptions I think it is the same bug.
However, I will file this bug and mark it as a duplicate, since x2x users might
find this bug report more quickly than the others.

Can someone do it or talk to the right people? It's a closed wiki.

it would be quite hard to include all the directories. i do have a
"Tommy Emmanuel Albums" too, but if i add it separately, then everything
is fine. if it's an ill-formatted directory (structure), then i'd say it
should rather be one of the chinese albums i have. but actually, i'd
suspect some error in id3 tags, that causes the crash. and btw, it
effects every playr i have tried so far, except exaile (but exaile
crashes randomly anyway...). audacious, rhythmbox, gnome-mplayer,

[Bug 356084] [NEW] libsndfile1 1.0.17-4ubuntu0.8.04.1 breaks rythmbox playback on ubuntu hardy

2009-04-06 Thread Anton
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

Today, playback from rhythmbox suddenly did not work anymore; it worked
fine last friday. This is for mp3 files, I did not try other types
(don't have them handy).

After reverting libsndfile1 back from 1.0.17-4ubuntu0.8.04.1 (hardy-
updates) to 1.0.17-4 (hardy), playback functionality is restored. (I
have not checked other players).

Synaptic history reports:

Commit Log for Wed Apr 1 09:49:18 2009
Upgraded the following packages:
libsndfile1 (1.0.17-4) to 1.0.17-4ubuntu0.8.04.1

I would not expect an update of a library to break core functionality
(reading soundfiles!).

I'm running ubuntu hardy (2.6.24-21-generic), fully updated. rhythmbox
0.11.5-0ubuntu8.
Please let me know if you need further details about this problem.

(P.S., I filed this agains libsndfile1 as well, see
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/356082)

[Bug 356083] [NEW] rhythmbox repeatedly searches for plugins

2009-04-06 Thread ThiloPfennig
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

If I import a directory again, sometimes rhythmbox does find non-music
files or files which are differently coded. It then starts to search for
plugins for these files. So far so good. The problem is that if it does
not find a plugin it does not remember that. So it would search for it
10.000 times if it finds it 10.000 times. I recommend a memory of
searches. It may make sense to search again sometimes if a new
repository was added. OTOH it should recognize that files that are not
text are not opened with rhythmbox.

Description:Ubuntu jaunty (development branch)
Release:9.04

[Bug 354375] Re: [jaunty] pulseaudio crashes when I try to mute audio in volume control

2009-04-06 Thread LGB [Gábor Lénárt]
Ok, I've rebooted my machine. Running kernel now:

Linux vega 2.6.28-11-generic #40-Ubuntu SMP Fri Apr 3 17:39:51 UTC 2009
i686 GNU/Linux

However the bug is the same. Last message from the pulseaudio (in debug
level 9) is the same as in my already attached file, which is:

E: core-util.c: Assertion 's' failed at pulsecore/core-util.c:517,
function pa_strlcpy(). Aborting.

The only difference that it seems no I've got tons of "I: memblock.c:
Pool full" messages as well, but the final line is the really same.
Anyway I've attached this log file too now.

[Bug 352475] Re: sorry, unimplemented: inlining failed

2009-04-06 Thread Thorsten Glaser
- the bug only appears when using -fwhole-program --combine
- as this is a PPA, I do not really have access to either the source or
the compiler, because I don’t build it myself (it works fine on Hardy,
which is what we have at work)¹
- interestingly enough, the OpenSuSE Buildservice has the same problem

¹) I could try a chroot though, but it, again, looks like a problem in the
combination of new gcc and new headers – Debian sid doesn’t have it

[Bug 256805] Re: [xfce4-mixer] when editing a profile, the list of active items is randomized

2009-04-06 Thread Cruncher
a) Umh, sorry for the nominate, please ignore/reset that, I was trying to split
the bug to "Jaunty: Invalid, Intrepid: New", but that's either extremely
unintuitive to do in launchpad, or it's not possible for me at all.
b) The bug is apparently no longer valid for Jaunty, since the version of
xfce4-mixer contained in the 9.04 Beta release no longer has any options to
store and manage different settings.
c) The bug has changed for Intrepid in that I am no longer able to sort,
disable, or hide sliders. I am able to select sliders in the File->Options
menu, but this has no effect. In addition, it lists 2 devices: one "default"
(the list is always empty) and "#0: SB PCI 512" (the list is always extensive).
When trying to manage my settings in "View->Manage", I cannot. All fields are
empty and disabled, except the "+". If I click "+", I can enter a name for a
profile, but I cannot populate or modify it.

xfce4-mixer 1:4.4.3-0ubuntu1~intrepid1
xfce4-mixer-alsa 1:4.4.3-0ubuntu1~intrepid1
I use ALSA (back when I opened the bug I was using OSS).

I have 2 sound cards, one onboard, and one in a PCI slot. The onboard
ist the first device, but I don't use it. I hardwired my alsa to force
it to use my second decive, the PCI soundcard (I had *extreme* trouble
configuring Ubuntu to not use the onboard sound, which is probably the
only huge minus concerning usability IMHO, but that's a different
problem...), by blacklisting the onboard soundcard in
/etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.

[Bug 356082] [NEW] libsndfile1 1.0.17-4ubuntu0.8.04.1 breaks rythmbox playback on ubuntu hardy

2009-04-06 Thread Anton
Public bug reported:

Today, playback from rhythmbox suddenly did not work anymore; it worked
fine last friday. This is for mp3 files, I did not try other types
(don't have them handy).

After reverting libsndfile1 back from 1.0.17-4ubuntu0.8.04.1 (hardy-
updates) to 1.0.17-4 (hardy), playback functionality is restored. (I
have not checked other players).

Synaptic history reports:

Commit Log for Wed Apr 1 09:49:18 2009
Upgraded the following packages:
libsndfile1 (1.0.17-4) to 1.0.17-4ubuntu0.8.04.1

I would not expect an update of a library to break core functionality
(reading soundfiles!).

I'm running ubuntu hardy (2.6.24-21-generic), fully updated. rhythmbox
0.11.5-0ubuntu8.
Please let me know if you need further details about this problem.

P.S., I filed this against rhythmbox as well, see

[Bug 349001] Re: CRDA regression in lbm compared with main kernel package

2009-04-06 Thread Rocko
I confirm this in version 2.6.28-11.12 of linux-backports-modules. CRDA
is always incorrectly selecting the US domain even though I am in
Australia.

CRDA incorrectly selecting the US domain might explain why I kept
getting kicked off the AP every 5 to 10 minutes.

I can fix it by using the lbm_cw_cfg80211 ieee80211_regdom=AU option, in
which case it first says it is using the static data (US) and then later
says it is choosing Australia:

Walkman` instead of mass storage device which was the default behaviour
in `Intrepid`.

I killed `gvfs-gphoto2-volume-monitor` and re-attached the device and
now it's mounted as usb mass storage device and now I can browse the
storage with Nautilus.

[Bug 356091] [NEW] Eraser cursor stays on the trash

2009-04-06 Thread Charles Roduit
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: wacom-tools

Problem
=

The stylus works well after the normal configuration, but the eraser
always positions the cursor on the lower right corner, on the trash.

Expected behaviour

The cursor follows the eraser.

Work around

use the wacomcpl script from wacom-tools to calibrate the stylus.

Copy the values in the files generated by wacomcpl (i.e. .xinitrc) to
xorg.conf :

Section "InputDevice"
Driver "wacom"
Identifier "eraser"
Option "Device""/dev/input/wacom"
Option "Type" "eraser"
Option "ForceDevice" "ISDV4" # Tablet PC ONLY
Option "BottomY" "18499"
Option "BottomX" "24601"
Option "TopY" "-23"
Option "TopX" "-28"
EndSection

for the stylus, eraser, and cursor.

This fixes the problem for all users and permanently.

Thank you.
