[Bug 301942] Re: Gedit ctrl-T does not open new tab

It seems, rather than completely disregarding this, there should be a
standard for this kind of thing. All Gnome apps should have unified key
settings (ctrl+t opening a new tab, for instance.) Its up for debate.

[Bug 181977] Re: Mutiple file transfers appear to cause libmtp to hang

2008-11-25 Thread Jaakko Sipari
By the way has anyone tried this using the newest version (0.9) of
mtpfs? I'll also try to build it from source and try if the bug gets
fixed that way. Then the solution would be simple enough: update mtpfs
from upstream.

I'll also try what Gordon did (deleting files via bash) and see if I get
the same problem with the current package version (and also 0.9).

In case someone just needs a nice way to use their Zen player and
doesn't care about the mounting aspect, you can use gnomad2 which seems
to work very nicely with my Zen 8GB. Personally I still prefer to
actually mount the player since that makes it possible to use it in a
"headless" or automated environment.

[Bug 296167] Re: X.org will intermittently stop responding to mouse clicks on Ibex with Xinerama

2008-11-25 Thread xianthax
confirmed and killing my productivity...

this may be helpful in tracking it down.

system specs:

Ubuntu 8.10
Intel Q6600 @ 3.2Ghz
Asus P5E WS Pro Mainboard
8GB ram
2 x Nvidia 8600GTS (177.80 drivers)

Screen setup: 3 screens, each a separate x session all merged with
xinerama, arranged from left to right as: GPU0(screen0), GPU1(Screen0),
GPU1(screen1). All normal orientation and all 1680 x 1050 screens.

Always appears to happen when the mouse is moving across the GPU
boundary. And here is the interesting bit that may help solve this. I
often run 1 application on each screen but not maximized to the screen,
there is a one inch gap or so around the edges of each application
window on each screen. The apps that are on GPU1S0 (middle) and
GPU1S1(right) have custom cursor icons, when the mouse bugs out, if i
move the mouse to GPU0S0 (left) and put it in the area where the windows
are on the other screens, the cursor icon changes and moving it around
more subtly i can get the various cursor from the apps that are running
on the other 2 screens (2 instances of the same app so i can't tell
which screen X thinks the mouse is really on). Clicking anywhere has no
effect, despite attempts to click on the left screen to create action on
one of the others.

Testing: To test this hypothesis i setup 3 instances of xev, one on
each screen roughly the same size and in the same place. I trigger the
bug (waving mouse back and forth quickly across the gpu boundary seems
to be 100% effective at causing this in a short amount of time, thus i
recommend everyone avoid doing this when you don't want to reboot X).

results: movement on GPU0S0 (left) in the area of the xev window on
GPU1S0 (center) triggers events on the xev on GPU1S0 (center),
indicating that X thinks the mouse is one screen to the right of where
it is displayed, presses and releases are also recorded although they
have no effect on running applications (probably because the coordinates
sent to the app are out of bounds). Mouse movement / events anywhere on
GPU1S0 or GPU1S1 cause no xev events on any screen indicating its not
simply an off by 1 screen issue.

this and everything else we've seen indicates to me this is a problem in
handing off cursor control from 1 gpu to the the other gpu.

I'm out of time tonight but i will try disabling hardware acceleration
of the cursor to see if it has any effect on this. I could also
rearrange my screens to further test the GPU boundary theory.

cheers,

x

[Bug 301942] Re: Gedit ctrl-T does not open new tab

You can define your own keyboard shortcuts in most GNOME applications.
System -> Preferences -> Appearance -> Interface, check "Editable menu
shortcut keys". Then mouse-over the item in the menu and hit whatever
shortcut you want to remap it to. This should work for most things in
GNOME, the notable exception being Evolution.

[Bug 296167] Re: X.org will intermittently stop responding to mouse clicks on Ibex with Xinerama

2008-11-25 Thread JPHein
I also have this problem.
Ubuntu 8.10 64-bit (updated today)
Nividia 177
Xinerama w/ 4 Screens

Reproduce bug:
1. Open Firefox (with a bunch of Restored tabs including one with flash content)
2. Move Firefox window to different monitor.
3. Right click on the Firefox entry in the "Window List" and select "Move"
4. Left click anywhere. (The mouse clicks stop working)

The keyboard still works fine and the mouse cursor still moves around.
One time I opened a terminal with keyboard shortcuts and ran "sudo
/etc/init.d/hal restart" and it fixed the problem. The next time I tried that
it didn't work.

Nelson: I tried to reproduce the bug using your steps, but It did not manifest
itself for me.

I attached the Xorg.0.log from the buggy session.
I did add Option "AutoAddDevices""false" to my xorg.conf

[Bug 239731] Re: Select and paste not working properly in Eclipse (probably a Java issue)

2008-11-25 Thread Michael
I was using klipper, which is installed by default in Kubuntu. Now I am
no longer using Eclipse, as it can no longer cope with the size of the
project I need it for, and crashes with "out of memory" every time I use
it. So this ticket can probably be closed on both counts :) Kendon,
thanks for pointing that out.

[Bug 301958] [NEW] no working driver for sis 671/771 video cards

2008-11-25 Thread bgerlich
Public bug reported:

sis 671/771 driver is not available for Ubuntu but there is a working
driver in the newest Mandriva. The driver in Mandriva is based on
http://www.linuxconsulting.ro/xorg-drivers/ ( I think) .

Not having the driver makes the installation of Ubuntu a PITA on laptops
with sis 671/771 based integrated graphics card. Making the laptop
usable requires playing with xorg.conf and module compilation or
switching to Vesa 1280x768 mode deformed to fit 1280x800 LCD.

[Bug 301957] [NEW] No documentation or manpage

2008-11-25 Thread Micon Frink
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: livecd-rootfs

No manpage
No readme
No -h or --help option
No Ubuntu Wiki Help

In short there is no way to learn what this script does or how to use
it. Granted, someone using this should be able to read the code and
discover what it's doing. But then again, what is the use of the tool if
someone knows all the bash commands?

Bottom line: Get it documented!!!

Pathan - thats because gnome-volume-manager has nothing to do with this.
gnome-volume-manager is a legacy application for managing removable

[Bug 301889] Re: crash evolution after print a not possible page

2008-11-25 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal
with as a '.crash' file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report
a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport
in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.

If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.
I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently.
Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 229382] Re: [hardy] Can't connect to WPA wireless connection using nm-applet

2008-11-25 Thread colinstark
Assuming that this is the same problem that I'm having, this isn't a problem
with network manager at all. I tried Wicd and I've also tried using the
command line and I still haven't been able to connect to any encrypted wireless
networks (WEP,WPA,WPA2).
I'm using an Intel 2200BG wireless card in an IBM Thinkpad R51. Driver being
used is ipw2200.
I have tried connecting to 5-6 different encrypted networks with no success,
with all 3 different types of encryption.
I'm running Ubuntu 8.10 with all the latest updates (as of Nov. 25) and if I
remember correctly the problem started about a week to two weeks ago. I've
been running Intrepid starting with alpha 2 or 3 and I've never had problems up
until now. Once the problem started, I haven't been able to connect to an
encrypted network once.
I'm not sure if this is a problem with wpasupplicant or with the kernel itself
so I'm hoping someone here can figure that out.
Also, network manager seems to be storing the psk instead of the passphrase
when it's prompting me for the password, and I have no idea whether this is
related or whether this is even a problem at all. Seahorse also has psk's
stored instead of passphrases.
Kernel version is 2.6.26-7-generic. Network manager version is
0.7~~svn20081018t105859-0ubuntu1, Wicd version was newest, wpasupplicant
version is 0.6.4-2.

For the attached log, I included everything immediately after a new
instance of network manager was started. I'd just deleted all the
settings about the wireless network it was trying to connect to, so it
prompted me for the passphrase which I entered. After failing to
connect the first time, it prompted me for the passphrase again, at
which point I hit cancel. It also connected to the wired network
somewhere in there.

[Bug 115774] Re: syslog.0 and kern.log.0 grow huge

2008-11-25 Thread JediAnt
I recently upgraded to Intrepid on my Acer laptop, and I came across a
similar problem:

$ ls -lah syslog*
-rw-r- 1 syslog adm 58 2008-11-25 10:37 syslog
-rw-r- 1 syslog adm 242K 2008-11-25 10:36 syslog.0
-rw-r- 1 syslog adm 762M 2008-11-24 02:00 syslog.1.gz
-rw-r- 1 syslog adm 20K 2008-11-20 11:02 syslog.2.gz
-rw-r- 1 syslog adm 20K 2008-11-19 10:38 syslog.3.gz
-rw-r- 1 syslog adm 187M 2008-11-18 09:54 syslog.4.gz
-rw-r- 1 syslog adm 19K 2008-11-17 09:19 syslog.5.gz
-rw-r- 1 syslog adm 21K 2008-11-14 10:13 syslog.6.gz

As you can see, syslog.1.gz and syslog.4.gz are still very large - even
after gzipping. Before syslog.1.gz was zipped, it took up 15GB. I only
noticed because gzip was using up 70% of my processor for 20 minutes..

[Bug 301960] [NEW] Please sync squid3 3.0.STABLE8-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main).

2008-11-25 Thread Thierry Carrez
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: squid3

Please sync squid3 3.0.STABLE8-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main).

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:
3.0.STABLE7-1ubuntu1 just applied an upstream patch to fix FTBFS
(03-fix_unused_results.patch). This patch was included as part of upstream
3.0.STABLE8 release.

Changelog since current jaunty version 3.0.STABLE7-1ubuntu1:

squid3 (3.0.STABLE8-1) unstable; urgency=high

  * Urgency high to meet freeze deadline
  * New upstream release
  * debian/patches/10-mgr_active_requests
- Added upstream patch fixing delay_pool reporting in cachemgr.cgi

[Bug 296068] Re: KMyMoney No Longer Supports OFX

2008-11-25 Thread Fabián Rodríguez
In Intrepid please try installing the following package:
kmymoney2-plugin-aqbanking

Description:

"KMyMoney is the Personal Finance Manager for KDE. It operates similar
to MS-Money and Quicken, supports different account types,
categorisation of expenses, QIF import/export, multiple currencies and
initial online banking support.

This package enables KMyMoney to retrieve transaction and account
statements, transfer money using AqBanking (supports HBCI). "

I can't test it at the moment, I'd appreciate anyone reporting back if

[Bug 301962] [NEW] Pulseaudio crashes on startup Ubuntu 8.10

2008-11-25 Thread danielesil88
Public bug reported:

Pulseaudio crashed on startup on Ubuntu 8.10, updated from 8.04: The welcome
music is stuck (Ubuntu studio's music).
In the System monitor, it says : pulseaudio 0% CPU Nice = 0 ID=6106
   Memory = 4.5 MB futex_wait

I tried both: killall pulseaudio and sudo killall pulseaudio : After I
press Enter, I get the screen I sent as an attachment.

Hope you can do something, I'm restarting the Session

Daniele Silvi

P.S.: I had it sometimes also on Ubuntu 8.04, but I never reported it

[Bug 283680] Re: konsole does not restore session properly (intrepid, kde4)

2008-11-25 Thread Joschi Holaubek
Thanks.
You should not close this bug as it has not yet been fixed.
"It is fixed in version xxx" and version xxx is not available yet (or you'd be
crazy to use it 'cause its alpha) means the issue is open but resolved.

People complaining about the same issue will not easily find the bug if
it is closed. They will open a new one and will not receive the
gratifying information that konsole will be as usable as it used to be
(until Intrepid) if we wait for another couple o'months.

Thanks again for your understanding.

[Bug 296750] Re: "special device /dev/dm-0 does not exist" when mounting an encrypted drive

2008-11-25 Thread Jan Jergus
Thanks for finally answering, but why do you say so? I don't see the
same error message anywhere in that thread, and the other bug is quite
old. My problem started in Intrepid.

Here are some additional details I can think of.

The most interesting thing is probably that this does not happen
consistently. Any ideas what might cause the drive to mount correctly
about half the times and not mount at other times?

When the error pops-up, the drive is LUKS-opened correctly, it is
possible to manually mount it like "sudo mount
/dev/mapper/luks_crypto_ac639614-9758-4555-9c97-90d4796d9c8b /mnt".
However, "gnome-mount -vbd
/dev/mapper/luks_crypto_ac639614-9758-4555-9c97-90d4796d9c8b" gives the
following output:

gnome-mount 0.8
** Message: Given device
'/dev/mapper/luks_crypto_ac639614-9758-4555-9c97-90d4796d9c8b' is not a volume
or a drive.

Output of "sudo fdisk -l /dev/sdb":

Disk /dev/sdb: 320.0 GB, 320072933376 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 38913 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes
Disk identifier: 0x5b6ac646

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sdb1 1 38913 312568641c W95 FAT32 (LBA)

Can this be a problem? The partition is marked as "W95 FAT32 (LBA)" (I
didn't change it, this is how it was supplied), but I encrypted the
partition (not the whole drive) and formatted the encrypted partition as
ReiserFS.

[Bug 96754] Re: Atheros 5212 NIC Fails to Connect in Feisty

2008-11-25 Thread Markus Marschall
Doesn't work on lenovo thinkpad r60e either.

i figured out that txpower drops to 8dBm, i just can get it working with
the command "iwconfig ath0 txpower 50mW". Works well for about a few
minutes but it crashes again after a few minutes.

For some reason it worked with 7.04 (if i remember correctly) but there
only via "/etc/init.d./networking" manually edited and without network
manager.

I'd love to help debugging, just tell me what you need.

[Bug 301966] [NEW] makes umount /usr impossible

2008-11-25 Thread Peter Cordes
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: friendly-recovery

I run with /usr on a lvm volume, and / on its own RAID1 md device, which
is GRUB-bootable. I wanted to xfs_admin my /usr, but friendly-recovery
leaves open files on /usr (e.g. /usr/share/recovery-mode/options/root)
when dropping to a root shell, e.g. after a "sudo shutdown now".

Oh well, I guess I'll just uninstall it, or I could boot with
init=/bin/bash. Until now it never actually got in my way, and I kept
it around to see how user-friendly Ubuntu was getting for newbies...
Hmm, xfs_admin lives in /usr, but -c1 runs xfs_repair -c lazycount=1,
and xfs_repair lives on the root fs... I had to copy xfs_db to
/root/bin, but then I was good to go after uninstalling friendly-
recovery.
