[Bug 67129] Re: notification-daemon using 237MB of memory
I've reproduced the bug in the version of notification-daemon included in the Hardy 8.04 release, and have verified that the package in Hardy- proposed definitely improves the memory usage of it -- doing (in bash): $ for ((i = 1; i <= 1000; i++)) ; do notify-send -i /usr/share/icons/Human/48x48/places/distributor-logo.png "Message $i" "This is message $i" ; done caused the -proposed version to use about an additional 7.5M of memory versus 57M for the version released in 8.04 (ia32 versions, the amd64 version in -proposed increases by about 10M). There is still likely more more memory leaks, as the memory usage appears to grow without bound if the for-loop is repeated multiple times, and it would be nice to address those, but the -proposed package is a significant enough improvement to mark this fix as verified. I don't make extensive use of the notification-daemon, but I noticed no regressions despite the heavy use I was giving it in for loops, plus the occasional application usage. ** Tags added: verification-done ** Tags removed: verification-needed -- notification-daemon using 237MB of memory https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/67129 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 239938] [NEW] Update disables lircd.conf (i.e. the remote control) without appropriate notice
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: lirc A package update apparently distributed on or around 2008-06-11 renames /etc/lirc/lircd.conf to /etc/lirc/lircd.conf.dpkg-old - causing the remote to fail due to having its configuration overwritten with a file containing only these comment lines: #This configuration has been automatically generated via #the Ubuntu LIRC package maintainer scripts. # #It includes the default configuration for the remote and/or #transmitter that you have selected during package installation. # #Feel free to add any custom remotes to the configuration #via additional include directives or below the existing #Ubuntu include directives from your selected remote and/or #transmitter. #No default remote configuration was included for Home-brew (16x50 UART compatible serial port) #You will need to include your own custom configuration for #this remote, and file a bug at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lirc/+filebug ...which I hereby do, in spite of this appearing to be an omission in the package installer rather than a bug in the source as such. This behaviour might cause users some headaches as not everyone is supposed to know that this is easily remedied by testing the remote (typically requiring the physical presence of "root" to push its buttons though) and rolling back the changes by performing e.g. the following steps: irw cd /etc/lirc /etc/init.d/lirc stop cp lircd.conf lircd.conf.dpkg_2008-06-11 cp lircd.conf.dpkg-old lircd.conf /etc/init.d/lirc start irw Given that it is not known whether /etc/lirc/lircd.conf.dpkg-old will be preserved over multiple generations of updates, the automatic replacement of /etc/lirc/lircd.conf without warning might lead to final loss of one's configuration even if submitted for inclusion with http://lirc.sourceforge.net/remotes/, as no updates have been made available on the latter since 2008-03-02. ** Affects: lirc (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Update disables lircd.conf (i.e. the remote control) without appropriate notice https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/239938 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Additionally you installed/tried to install the corresponding data-package. The data-package has at least one file that is also included in the warzone2100-package. Both files (grim.wz) should be exactly the same, so overwriting should not be a problem. How you could work around this problem: I have not checked those two packages and do not use them at all. Instead I am using the latest stable version (2.0.10) which is also available as a .deb-package at the Gna! project site (http://download.gna.org/warzone/releases/2.0/). It is working with Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron (i386). I recommend to not use the more or less randomly chosen outdated svn- versions included in the Ubuntu repositories as reporting bugs for those versions is almost no use (one would have to verify the existance of the bug in the current svn-version). [Bug 239947] [NEW] HAL crashes with generated smb.conf
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: samba Yesterday I installed and ran gsambad to configure my samba shares. It was a bit more complicated than expected, so I didn't complete the configuration. But from the time the new smb.conf was written, the HAL stopped working: - Nautilus crashed constantly - When I restarted I got a message "Failed to initialize HAL" At first, I didn't expect that this was caused by the new smb.conf and tried reconfiguring HAL, restarting HAL and so on. Without success. After 2 hours I did a dpkg-reconfigure samba and everything was fixed. I think it shouldn't be possible to crash the HAL via smb.conf :-) (I'm not sure whether this is a bug in samba in HAL...) [Bug 239957] [NEW] Handout Layout ruled lines
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: openoffice.org-impress Am a new user of Open Office - this point makes a comparison to functionality available on M$ Windoze Powerpoint. The Handout Layout left aligns 3 slides on a page, and shows ruled lines to the right of each slide. This is convenient for delegates to write on when printed out. Open Office Impress 2.4 doesn't give any such options. Please advise if you have this feature planned for a future release. [Bug 237724] Re: linux-image-2.6.24-18-xen breaks mono
I have been suggested a work around for mono to work with the bugged kernel: 1. Download mono source 2. Edit file mini/mini-amd64.h adding #define MONO_ARCH_NOMAP32BIT at the end of the file, just before the last #endif 3. Compile mono using ./configure --prefix=/usr if you want to replace the current mono installation and make you life easier with GAC 4. If the case, add in GAC the assemblies not fund by the new mono installation (http://www.mono-project.com/Assemblies_and_the_GAC) Note that this is a workaround for the kernel bug outlined in my previous post, not a fix for mono. Hope it helps -- linux-image-2.6.24-18-xen breaks mono https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/237724 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
