[Bug 224065] [NEW] screensaver(Flurry) freeze or lockup after some time passed

2008-04-29 Thread Teerapap Changwichukarn
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver

1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'lsb_release -rd' or System
-> About Ubuntu.

Description:Ubuntu 8.04
Release:8.04

2) The version of the package you are using, via 'apt-cache policy
packagename' or by checking in Synaptic.

gnome-screensaver

3) What you expected to happen and What happened instead.

My screensaver turns on as usual. I choose Flurry as my main screensaver. I set
screensaver timeout for 5 minutes.
I go to lunch for an hour. When I come back , my screensaver freeze. I press
spacebar , Screensaver disappear.
It turns to a blank black screen and the unlock window not appear. So the
system freeze.
I can't do anything (Alt+Ctrl+BkSpc ,Alt+Ctrl+F1-6,). So I have to
Alt+PrtSc+(R-E-I-S-U-B)

This case didn't happen in gutsy. It happens after I upgraded to hardy.

[Bug 224065] Re: screensaver(Flurry) freeze or lockup after some time passed

2008-04-29 Thread Teerapap Changwichukarn
I notice that it'll happen when the screensaver has already freezed (after some
time passed).
If It has just switch to screensaver-mode , it works as usual.

untouched/unfinished bugs here. Anyway, any word on whether this was
fixed for Hardy or not? I haven't had a chance to test yet.

[Bug 162976] Re: Fills up .xsession-errors with "GetValue variable 1 (1)"

2008-04-29 Thread era
Update: I also got this when opening a PDF file from
http://www.governmentattic.org/docs/NSA_Nonresponsive_Docs_FOIA47415.pdf:

** Message: GetValue variable 1 (1)
** Message: GetValue variable 2 (2)
** Message: GetValue variable 1 (1)
** Message: GetValue variable 2 (2)
** Message: GetValue variable 1 (1)

** Message: GetValue variable 2 (2)
** Message: GetValue variable 1 (1)
** Message: GetValue variable 2 (2)
** Message: GetValue variable 1 (1)
** Message: GetValue variable 2 (2)

So it appears that this is related to plug-ins and extensions in
general, not particularly RSS or Live Bookmarks after all.

I downloaded the source package and grepped for "Message:" and
"GetValue" but I could not quickly pinpoint anything; iit seems that
this message is generated on the fly, I guess by JavaScript.

[Bug 213081] Re: CUPS does not print to LPD printer

2008-04-29 Thread Eric Wick
Hello

some further informations from my system.

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~# ls -l /usr/lib/cups/backend/lpd
-rwx-- 2 root root 20432 2008-04-21 22:22 /usr/lib/cups/backend/lpd

And you're right the printing works in really slow motion, the epson d88
get a line every 30 minutes. Maybe a page can be possible when waiting
some days for the result. The 7.10 on my laptop prints well so i can
transfer the documents to it for printing.

ByeBye

I am running ubuntu hardy fresh install on a new sony vaio with nvidia 8400gt

i had no shadows.
after doing this:
$ sudo ln -sf /usr/lib/nvidia/libwfb.so.xserver-xorg-core

Everything is fine:
emerald works and shadows are back.

good luck!! :)

2008-04-29 Thread Denis_AeC
Maybe related to this bug or not : sometimes, Hugin exits when starting

As an addon to the first post, Hugin accepts to remove a photo and add a
new one if no connection point has previously been defined. It seems to
exit only if you remove a photo (or more) that has connections to
other(s) and when you want to add a new one.

I got it working now. I had to download the Japanese language support post
install through synaptic. Maybe there was a problem with the download during
my install (I dont think the japanese text files are on the CD are they?)

Anyway, everything's ok now, but one of the things I loved about Gutsy was
how Japanese language input just worked out of the box, so I was
disappointed that it didn't with Hardy.

This worked for me:

1) sudo apt-get --purge remove b43-fwcutter
2) reboot
3) sudo apt-get install b43-fwcutter (confirm firmware download)
4) reboot

I am not sure the reboots are necessary. I did them just to be on the

I'm afraid I can't share your joy. Upon following your instructions, I
get the black screen, no GDM Login, no CTRL+ALT+F1 etc. only way to get

This is within a Wubi environment, so I don't know whether this has

Because forcibly removing and reinstalling the symlinks is already a
gross violation of Policy. We just clobber an administrator's

and not be done with every upgrade.

[Bug 224070] [NEW] ubuntu-wearables: Canonical Store reports Hardy Heron Mens T-shirt 'Out of Stock'

2008-04-29 Thread R.
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu release: Hardy Heron
application: ubuntu-canonical-store-wearables_1.0.0

Apparently all available Hardy Heron Mens T-shirts are sold out. This *must* be
a bug. There were a whopping 500 made!
Could the solution be backported to Hardy? Maybe an extra 500? I'd really like
to buy that T-shirt. ;-)

Steps to reproduce:
1) Visit the Canonical Store
2) Click on 'Wearables'
3) Choose 'Limited Edition Hardy Heron Mens T-shirt'
4) Try to add to cart

Expected:
I could buy this great looking shirt.

What happened instead:
I could not buy this great looking shirt.

[Bug 224071] [NEW] notifier detects crashes before core is finished being written

2008-04-29 Thread Kees Cook
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: apport

When a very large program crashes (say... firefox), the crash notifier will pop
up before the crash file has been written out all the way, causing a number of
issues:
 - repeated "new crash" notification popups as the crash file grows
 - apport-gtk complains the crash is corrupted (since it is still growing)

I would suggest an rsync-style "temp" filename to be used until apport
is finished building the crash file, which can then be moved into place.

This is hard to fix through an upgrade. New installations shouldn't
have the problem. You can tell her to open a Terminal window and enter

[Bug 223724] Re: package scrollkeeper 0.3.14-15ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade:

2008-04-29 Thread christophe-marie
Actually, the bug solved by itself. I was to put a message here. Since
scrollkeeper had failed to upgrade, the installer threw a dpkg-
reconfigure -a. Then scrollkeeper upgrade locked again on the same file
: /usr/share/gnome/help/blackjack/el/blackjack.xml (I had the time to
note the filename this time).

The last time, it had bugged after I had tried to make this file being
ignored in pressing C-c. So I just waited, and the upgrade managed to
pass. Sorry for the time loss.

I'm attaching anyway what was in /var/log dist-upgrade/.

sorry, I forgot to add the first step:

@Necrolon:   sudo ln -sf /usr/lib/nvidia/libwfb.so.xserver-xorg-core
/usr/lib/xorg/modules/libwfb.so

(creates a symbolic link of some sort)

you can make a backup of the original if you wish

then restart X. You may need to remove /usr/lib/nvidia/libwfb.so before
you can replace it with the symbolic link.

The strange thing is, even though I have the flat-file backend set in CCSM,
editing the gconf settings still affect the Decoration Options.

Good luck, let me know how it goes.

The issue originaly occured in the base system install, it was fixed
when I installed kubuntu-desktop it seems. Therefor I propose this to be
investigated for the sake of Intrepid rather than Hardy, so that the
base install there won't have the same problems.

I can however not reproduce it without re-installing. When first encountering
the problem I tried re-installing but the problem was still there, and I had
run an integrity check of the install CD.
The CD in use was Ubuntu-variant (even though I installed Kubuntu from the cmd)

[Bug 221970] Re: [hardy]Network controller: RaLink RT2600 802.11 MIMO don't work with network-manager

2008-04-29 Thread Ferrero
I've found a workaround to make the wifi connection work.
My wifi hotspot has an option that make the best channel chosen to establish
the connection (the one with less interferences).

In Gusty the wifi connection is made without any problems when this option is
activated.
But in Hardy it seems to be an issue. When I disable this option the wifi
connection can be activated.

There is another point, now my wifi signal is very low (35%) whereas in
Gusty with the same parameters and the same positionning of the computer
and the hotspot, the signal is about 83%.

[Bug 224072] [NEW] OOo Word - compresses text to the left after space or tab

2008-04-29 Thread Andre Mangan
Public bug reported:

After a fresh install of Hardy Heron.

When writing a line of text in the OOo word processor 2.4.0 containing a
double hyphen, the line shifts to the left when using a space or tab
making the double hyphen into one long hyphen.

Try this example in the word processor: evolution --force-shutdown
and follow with a space to add another word or a Tab stroke.

It makes code-writing rather difficult.

[Bug 219657] Re: suspend/resume broken on hp nc 6320

2008-04-29 Thread spencer davies
I have the same problem as Erik. I can confirm both suspend and
hibernate worked ok in 2.6.24-15 and has stopped working in 2.6.24-16
(since installing 8.04). The problem appears on the suspend/hibernate
side rather than during resume. When doing suspend the system goes to
complete shutdown; when doing hibernate it streams out a usb error
message; hitting ctrl/z sends it to complete shutdown.

version.log, dmesg.log and lspci-vvnn.log attached

Spencer.

[Bug 224075] [NEW] gnome-app-install doesn't list all apps (Hardy Heron x64)

2008-04-29 Thread marco.pallotta
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-app-install

I found that gnome-app-install doesn't lists all apps (even if you select to
show all apps). In fact (in Hardy Heron x64) I tried to search glipper app and
I didn't find it. Then I tried via command line and via synaptic and glipper
was correctly displayed.
I'm a new ubuntu user so I don't know if gnome-app-install was made with the
goal to display some major apps (in this case its behavoir would be correct).
Until now I only found that glipper wasn't listed via gnome-app-install.

[Bug 224074] [NEW] update from 7.10 to 8.04 doesn't update grub default correctly

2008-04-29 Thread schwaang
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: grub

This might be the same as #103297, but it didn't happen to me during kernel
updates for 7.10.
When updated to 8.04 using the update manager, the default index was left
unchanged, which was an error.
This is a dual-boot machine, with the default set to the windows entry (#4 in
7.10). Upon upgrading to 8.04, this needed to be changed to #6 in order to
refer to the same entry, but was left at #4, which defaulted to the memtest86
entry. That would be very confusing indeed for grandma.

The menu.lst for 8.04 had two different ubuntu kernels (plus a rescue
mode for each) instead of one kernel, which is why the index was off by
2.

Also, this machine was subject to another (totally separate) bug which causes
ubuntu to fail to boot they 8.04 kernel without a modification to the kernel
parameters.
If the update process was intending to modify menu.lst *after* the first
reboot, this could explain why it failed.

If this is not a duplicate of a known bug, I can submit my menu.lst and
any other information that would be useful. Thanks.

[Bug 224079] [NEW] Use tango icon for bookmarks in the places menu

2008-04-29 Thread David Prieto
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

Tango icons are used practically all over the desktop, yet the Places →
Bookmarks menu still uses an icon that not only is not Tango, but it
also seems to be the wrong size (bigger than the rest). Tango-style
bookmark icons exist, such as the one Epiphany uses. Please use such an
icon.

** Affects: gnome-panel (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

not a GNOME bug upstream, upstream says the drivers need to be changed
rather than adding special cases to the software

** Changed in: gnome-settings-daemon (Ubuntu)

[Bug 204326] Re: nm-applet 0.6.6 does not show any wireless networks

2008-04-29 Thread Yung-Chin Oei
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 188282 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/188282

This does not seem to be a duplicate of bug #188282.
That bug report is about the b43 driver breaking the installer.
This bug report is about a post-install problem.
