[Bug 209614] [NEW] Server Guide needs to document unattended-upgrades
Public bug reported: Looking for documentation of unattended-upgrades in the server guide, the only occurence I found was in the JeOS tutorial [1]. I think it would be quite conveniently documented where people might look for it, ie the chapter 3 - Package Management. The section should not only document the package installation, but also explain the risks of doing so and where are the logs so one can check for problems. [Bug 208243] Re: MacSlow Clock 12-24 Error
After a re-installation involving 266 Updates, the first removing conflict software, the MacSlow clock is better, as shown by new screen shot attached. The 24-hour display hour hand is very slightly out, but it's OK - great work by someone ! As you will see from the screen shot, you can have more than one instance, say a 12-hor clock across all virtual desktops plus a 24-hour clock on just one ! (It's things like these little desktop toys that'll help promote Hardy Heron.) So, please close this Bug report, and thanks again ! ** Attachment added: "Fixed MacSlow Clock - 24mar2008" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/12988927/MacSlowClockFix-31mar2008.jpg -- MacSlow Clock 12-24 Error https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/208243 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I had the bug in feisty and after compiling and svn version it seemed gone. Now I upgraded to Hardy and the bug is back. I can easily reproduce it using a stripped version of my email structure as a evolution backup. Since this data has personal information I can not put it here as an attachment. But I can send it if a developer wants it and contact me directly be email. Jamie already has access to it. [Bug 112937] Re: vmware server will not connect remotely
This is really a pam bug. vmware-server uses pam as shipped in ia32-libs. pam hardcodes the /lib/security path, but on amd64 installations, this is where the 64-bit pam modules are, so we end up with a 32 bit application tryin to dlopen a 64 bit binary, which obviously doesn't work. What needs to be done in pam is to check if (uname says we're running 64 bit && we're compiled for 32 bit) we should go looking in /lib32/security instead. ** Changed in: pam (Ubuntu) Sourcepackagename: None => pam Assignee: VMware Build Team (vmware-builds) => (unassigned) -- vmware server will not connect remotely https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/112937 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 208715] Re: nautilus-share: share can not have the same name as a user
So actually we have two issues now: 1. AFAIK there is no GUI which can export the home directories automatically (you have to do it in /etc/samba/smb.conf). With something like that my problem would be gone. And also I think there's no application to see a list of all the shared folders (except in smb.conf). Would that be possible with nautilus-share? Or what package would be the right one to assign such a bug to? 2. The error message "'net usershare' returned error 255: net usershare add: share name blabliblabla is already a valid system user name" looks ugly. It could be changed to something more lisible like "There is already a system user called blabliblabla. Usershares can't have the same name as system users." If issue no. 1 is solved you could even add "Home folders can be shared with system->shared folders" or similar. [Bug 209634] [NEW] firefox + flash video: crash playing second movie
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: firefox-3.0 Firefox 3.0 beta 4 + flashplugin-nonfree leads to crashes playing second (or third or fourth) flash movie clips. This problem has been reported many times but so far all reports seem to be labeled 'invalid' because the report does not contain the needed data. I can not see whether this report contains a valid stack trace, nor do I know whether the proprietary flash plugin leads itself to producing such. As this is a real, existing and annoying problem and as the proprietary flash plugin unfortunately remains the only way to play the majority of the flash video content out 'there' on the web it would be good to find a way to limit these crashes. Short of breaking into Adobe to fix the bugs in their software I'm afraid there is no real solution (given that the crashes stem from problems in the flash plugin and not from problems in Firefox or any related plugins that is) other than to run the flash plugin as an external process which can be respawned if it dies. This seems to be the way the Opera browser handles flash (and other plugins) judging from the presence of 'operapluginwrapper' and 'operaplugincleaner' processes which get spawned when doing anything flashy. Killing these processes does nothing to Opera itself. Reloading the page containing the flash content leads to these processes being respawned. It is clear that this approach to handling unstable plugins leads to fewer crashes related to those plugins. It also seems to lower performance of flash somewhat. I for one would be willing to sacrifice some performance with unstable proprietary software to gain immunity from the many bugs hidden in the proprietary code. For free plugins this approach should not be necessary as it is possible to actually fix the bugs. With proprietary code this is not possible. [Bug 41427] Re: "slow keys" can turn on surreptitiously & cause confusion.
I'm sure there was a reason for a developer to implement such feature as a slow key for certain category of end-users. Unfortunately it happened that the developer treated a headache by cutting the head. I had exact scenario that GKinal reported above, i.e. set up a laptop for my wife with kubuntu and she was happlily working on it for a few days untill she unknownly pressed OK when the system asked her to accept slow key feature. She couldn't use the keyboard at all untill I figured out what actually caused of the problem. I'm aboslutely sure the other category of end-users also need to have a developer attention, i.e. users who do not need this feature. I think I should have a respect at least to know that this feature is active and giving you a hint something like 'keep pressing a key for 3 seconds' if nothing happened on your screen. -- "slow keys" can turn on surreptitiously & cause confusion. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/41427 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 209638] [NEW] Spoofing-vulnerability in pdns-recursor
*** This bug is a security vulnerability *** Public security bug reported: Binary package hint: pdns-recursor http://doc.powerdns.com/powerdns-advisory-2008-01.html It is recommended that all users of the PowerDNS Recursor upgrade to 3.1.5 as soon as practicable, while we simultaneously note that busy servers are less susceptible to the attack, but not immune. The vulnerability is present on all operating systems where the behaviour of the libc random() function can be predicted based on its past output. This includes at least all known versions of Linux, as well as Microsoft Windows, and probably FreeBSD and Solaris. The magnitude of this vulnerability depends on internal details of the system random() generator. For Linux, the mathematics of the random generator are complex, but well understood and Amit Klein has written and published a proof of concept that can succesfully predict its output after uninterrupted observation of 40-50 DNS queries. Because the observation needs to be uninterrupted, busy PowerDNS Recursor instances are harder to subvert - other data is highly likely to be interleaved with traffic generated by an attacker. Nevertheless, operators are urged to update at their earliest convenience. ** Affects: pdns-recursor (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Visibility changed to: Public -- Spoofing-vulnerability in pdns-recursor https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/209638 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
