not work:

[Bug 106821] Re: smartmontools/smartctl does not work on SATA drives on Linux Kernel 2.6.20-15.27

2008-02-08 Thread gumptravels
This bug is still current on some systems, I just updated to the
following kernel on two feisty systems, and one works, and one still
does not.

Linux storage2 2.6.20-16-generic #2 SMP Fri Feb 1 02:59:08 UTC 2008 i686
GNU/Linux

The 'storage2' machine is using an nforce3 chipset as follows:

00:0a.0 IDE interface: nVidia Corporation CK8S Serial ATA Controller
(v2.5) (rev a2)

The other system with the 'server' kernel seems to work (different sata
controller also):

Linux blacktower 2.6.20-16-server #2 SMP Fri Feb 1 03:10:48 UTC 2008
i686 GNU/Linux

The 'blacktower' is running an nforce2 chipset with the following sata
PCI card:

01:08.0 Mass storage controller: Promise Technology, Inc.
PDC20518/PDC40518 (SATAII 150 TX4) (rev 02)

Either the generic kernel does not seem to work with smart still, or its
chipset related..

I will try installing the server kernel on the storage2 machine and try
to get back to this thread.. but for now, either the generic kernel is
still a problem, or there is a chipset related problem.

[Bug 190125] [NEW] mkdosfs segfault if enter invalid value for -b

2008-02-08 Thread Stephen Gornick
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: util-linux

mkdosfs will segfault if I enter an invalid value for -b.

I had accidentally typed mkfs.vfat instead of mkfs.ext2 but then entered the -b
4096 option correctly and pressed Enter. The result was:
  Segmentation fault (core dumped)

Of course, this occured because -b is also an option used by mkdosfs
(mkfs.vfat) so it was trying to use the sector value 4096, which I am
assuming is invalid.

Shouldn't mkdosfs be able to determine if a value for -b is invalid and
if so then fail gracefully?

Steps to replicate:
  sudo mkdosfs -b 4096 /dev/sdx1 (where x = disk device, eg., sda1)

Re: [Bug 190087] [NEW] None of the TeX engines installed in texlive-full know where any of the fonts are

Yes. That's why I said pdflatex was just for reference :-)

> Is your file *REALLY* in utf8 encoding? What is your LOCALE?
Yes, my file is UTF-8 (that was actually the first thing I verified[1]).

The author of XeTeX has actually recommended that inputenc not be used
with XeTeX; I tried numerous permutations of googled things in trying
to get that document to render before settling on the empty header.
However, since you recommended inputenc, here's the error that
inputenc gives with pdflatex:
! Package inputenc Error: Unicode char \u8:Т not set up for use with LaTeX.

That's a Cyrillic capital te, U+4022, which is included in utf8ienc[2].

So, my guess is one of the packages in texlive-full forgot to
configure something, but I don't know enough about TeX to know what.
I'm on an amd64 machine, but I don't think that would make a
difference with TeX?

Oh, and in case it matters, I have four (linguistics-related) .sty
files in my ~/texmf/tex/latex/ . It looks like TeX just doesn't know
where any of its fonts are except computer modern, though.

It certainly is a continuing problem.

I will have a look at what is involved in installing the Evolution

It surprises me that the problem is not causing more widespread

specifics of how I move data across from a PC running Feisty.

A workaround is to use the xine backend. So you install "totem-xine"
from apt and launch "totem-xine" . This is totem using xine for the
backend. I just tested it and AC3 passes fine now. Hopefully gstreamer
will get it together with AC3 passthrough.

[Bug 161118] Re: copying files from vista share results in timeout

2008-02-08 Thread Kevin Wood
I am also experiencing this problem. The samba server is running Vista.
Seems to happen whenever there is a wireless link involved. I have tried both
with my laptop wireless connection running Ubuntu, and my desktop running
Ubuntu 64 over a wireless ethernet bridge (no wireless card). The problem
happens on both. Booting to Windows and accessing the share that way works
fine from both machines. Also seems to work fine over Ethernet.
No messages show up in dmesg, would you like me to post it anyway?
Thanks Chuck,
-Kevin

[Bug 99432] Re: wireless network not working now

2008-02-08 Thread Kim Tyler
I have given up with the network drivers and now compile my own modules.
The standard ra0 driver does not work with the "iwpriv" commands which
is a real pain for me.

I now use the ra0 driver from the web site where the original (with
iwpriv) commands work. The reason for this is that I now use the
bonding module, and bond the ra0 and the eth0 into the bond0 interface.
This allows me work on gigabit wired interface when available, but if I
need to move it to another room, I disconnect the wired interface and it
fails over to the wireless interface. WIth bonding, the MAC address of
the active interface (only one running at a time) is the same,
correspondingly the DHCP address is also the same, so that my MySQL
server on the laptop with a public LAN address is still available on
wither wired or wireless. The same MAC and IP is important whichever
network is active.

Bonding does not work with wpa-supplicant which is the standard with
Ubuntu driver for my wireless card running WPA or WPA2.

I would not be happy going to WEP or no security just to fit in with the
standard distribution, especially after they have removed functionality
that was (and still is) important to the way I work.

Summary:- the fault is still there, functionality has been removed for
whatever reason, and I have to hack the system with my own compiled
modules to get it to do what it did before in previous releases. If you
have another work-around that meets the above specification, please feel
free to contact me.

[Bug 93961] Re: Library packaging problem

2008-02-08 Thread Lucas
Just to confirm that this bug still exists in Ubuntu Gutsy. I installed
the package libcegui-mk2-1. When I tried to use it, gdb tells me that it
is trying to load a dynamic library, that is not present in the package.

To solve it, I had to install the packaged named libcegui-mk2-dev, which
includes all it needs.

The dev package contains .la files that are not present in the lib
package.

[Bug 121641] Re: strange screen behaviour - changes size

2008-02-08 Thread Peter Ufi
I'm using Ubunt 7.10, Intel dual CPU E4600 2.4Gz, with a Gigabyte M/B
GA-945GCM-S2L (with integrated graphic controller), and a 22" ViewSonic
LCD monitor.

I'm using the normal out of the box Ubuntu (not KDE). Sometimes the
screen decides to shrink and leave a 2" wide black space on the left
side. Sometimes I manage to make an "Auto image adjust" via the
monitor's menu; (sometimes I have to access 'System-->Administration -->
Screens and graphics and play with the settings and press OK for the
monitor's menu to do the trick, but sometimes I have to re-start the
computer for the screen to re-adjust. Nevertheless, nothing hangs and I
can use the computer normally, only with a horizontally smaller screen.

Tollef: it's a bug, let's just be grateful it was reported, and see
which package's bugs it should properly be routed to. I'd imagine
apt-get autoremove is actually to blame here, but I don't have the time
to work on reproing and diagnosing it.
