[Bug 84591] Re: feisty 20070210/herd5 persistent mode doesn't work

2007-07-13 Thread Mike
Persistence definitely appears to be working in the latest tribe2 daily
build (7/12), except that I have to re-enter my WPA key every time I
reboot in order to log back in to my wireless network using the gnome
network manager. But, the system maintains changes I make to my
nautilus and firefox configurations, for example, and has maintained
newly installed applications. Not sure why the system would maintain
these other types of changes but not the WPA key that I entered using
the gnome network manager. Maybe that is a separate issue (e.g. with
the gnome network manager?).

I also did NOT experience the .ICEauthority issue in this latest daily
build.

[Bug 122459] Re: [gutsy] cannot log in on edubuntu DesktopCD

2007-07-13 Thread robepisc
Same here, but with Ubuntu Tribe 2 (not Edubuntu) and VMware Player 2.0.0.
X dies while Gnome is loading, leaving the following message in my
.xsession-errors:

Checking for texture_from_pixmap: x-session-manager: Fatal IO error
104 (Connection reset by peer) on X server :0.0.

X also dies when, glxinfo is run from a failsafe terminal, as already
reported my Michael.

[Bug 51662] Re: Runaway leak in composer

2007-07-13 Thread Sitsofe Wheeler
This happened to me again in Feisty.
evolution 2.10.1-0ubuntu2

I was editing some text in an email while copying and pasting into the email
window from a few different programs. Occasionally I would use undo. I noticed
the on set of the problem and managed to send evolution and SIGSTOP. Here's
some output from ps and free

[Bug 36716] Re: hsfmodem - hsfpcibasic2 driver Conexant HSF 56k HSFi Modem pciid 0-PCI-14f1:2f00-14f1:2004

2007-07-13 Thread Lost
I have had the same problem with the linuxant hsf modem. Also, it drops out
after 4 or 5 minuets on line.
Tech support from Linuxant came down to offering several init strings that
lowered the modem connect speed, and in the end the admission that there were
modulation issues within their conexant code that had not been solved.

I solved the problem by using a USB to serial cable, and a Diamond
SuperExpress 56 PRO hardware mopdem, and droping the Linuxant driver.

This has worked flawlessly, except for the fact that the modem diaols up as
soon as the desktop is loaded.

[Bug 125712] Workspace keyboard shortcuts don't appear in keyboard shortcuts capplet when default compiz setup enabled

2007-07-13 Thread VF
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

In Gutsy, look at the keyboard shortcuts capplet both with compiz on
(using the default out of the box setup) and off. The workspace keyboard
shortcuts don't appear there while compiz is on, they should and they
should be configurable. Maybe this has to do with whatever non-cube
plugin is enabled by default (wall or something?)

Unfortunately this is currently not possible. See Debian bug report 375922
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=375922
and especially Florent's explanations.

What you *COULD* do is *remove* those packages not needed. They were
probably pulled in by the new tetex-extra transitional package. If you
remove tetex-* and install only those languages/hyphenation patterns you
need it will be better.

Best wishes

Nottage is the collective name for things which you find a use for
immediately after you've thrown them away. For instance, your
greenhouse has been cluttered up for years with a huge piece of
cardboard and great fronds of gardening string. You at last decide to
clear all this stuff out, and you burn it. Within twenty-four hours
you will urgently need to wrap a large parcel, and suddenly remember

flashplugin-nonfree was definitely showing up in synaptic as of last
night. Yup, it's there. I actually manually marked it for installation
after installing nspluginwrapper and seeing that it still didn't work
right.

uhoh.. I just had to force quit terminal and now it won't really re-
load.. time to search for another bug report, why do I have a feeling
that one might be a driver issue.

/usr/lib/firefox/plugins has npwrapper.libflashplayer.so, a symlink that
points to /usr/lib/mozilla/plugiins/npwrapper.libflashplayer.so

wait, aha! that symlink is broken! the only libflashplayer.so on my

Re: [Bug 45347] A list of requirements is needed

2007-07-13 Thread Jerome Haltom
> 1. Only one way to configure default Java globally.
> 2. Support for overriding the default Java for a user.
> 3. Support for overriding the Java version used for an application globally.
> 4. Support for overriding the Java version used for an application for a user.
> 5. Mechanism on (1) should preset JAVA_HOME globally.
> 6. Mechanism on (2) should preset JAVA_HOME for a user.

1. If you point /etc/jvm at /usr and /usr only by default, then by
default update-java-alternatives takes effect. The list of default stuff
in /etc/jvm is old and poorly thought out anyways. I guess my hope with
this file was to make it point to only two things: gcj and Sun. Period.
Ask gcj tended to be our "official" "good-enough" Java implementation
(it was most likely to work given all our choices). Sun's would not be
used unless the user changed the order. (Sun's is non-free, and we
cannot rely on it being installed, ever, except for other non-free
stuff. It is better to pretend it does not exist. (OpenJDK??))

2. ~/.jvm already exists.

3. /etc/jvm.d

4. ~/.jvm.d

5. Well, not sure how you're going to manage this. You'll need it as
part of the login path. So, what, take the first entry out of /etc/jvm
and set it in /etc/environment, using some script? Since /etc/jvm
doesn't require a script to be used to alter it, that's not going to
work. Guess writing that code in /etc/profile to set it up might work.
Not sure how you're going to edit that file in any suitable automated
way. Also this file isn't even used by the Gnome or KDE login sessions
is it? Yeah, I think I found the only reliable way to properly set an
environmental variable at login was /etc/environment, as it's done by
PAM.

6. Same problems exist.

To conclude, I think everything except (5) and (6) work now, with the
exceptions that a) Eclipse is broken and b) /etc/jvm is stale. I think
(5) and (6) are going to be hard to accomplish. I've hit this same issue
and arrived at the conclusion that at least for now, making the user set
JAVA_HOME manually has been the best (only) possibility.

[Bug 118522] Re: Word wrap is too commonly changed to be in preferences, should be a menu

2007-07-13 Thread Dawid M.
Thanks for the link Sebastien ;) From that discussion (Comment #15) it
seems that Paolo Borelli has made up his mind on this bug almost 2 years
ago. Still on my Ubuntu Feisty I didn't find any convenient way to
toggle word wrapping in gedit :/ Is there at least a small glimmer of
hope that this issue will be solved in the next couple of months?? ;-S
(even keyboard shortcut would do the trick ;)

[Bug 125758] Unable to play rtsp URL embedded in rm file

2007-07-13 Thread Stefan Gründel
Public bug reported:

On amazon's website you can listen to some of the CDs offered, the URLs are of
the form *.rm, when you select the link in konqueror and open it in amarok
using xine-lib, amarok says "Fehler beim Laden des Mediums - Es gibt keinen
Audio Kanal" (my translation: "Error loading medium - an audio channel does not
exist").

When you download the .rm file and open it in a text editor it looks like

rtsp://67.135.228.120:554/real.amazon-de.eu2/phononet/B/0/0/0/A/8/A/W/V/O/01.10.rm?cloakport=80,554,7070

 --stop--
pnm://67.135.228.120:7070/real.amazon-de.eu2/phononet/B/0/0/0/A/8/A/W/V/O/01.10.rm?cloakport=80,554,7070

When you open the rtsp-URL directly in amarok, the stream get's played just
fine.
