[Bug 49423] Re: Problem with resizing partitions

2006-06-11 Thread William Grant
Thanks for the bug report. The space is unavailable due to the
restriction on the number of primary partitions to 4. You need to delete
an existing partition, create an extended partition, and put logical
partitions inside it.

The same here on my Acer Travelmate C111. Interestingly during the

[Bug 49364] Re: message filters on IMAP don't work

2006-06-11 Thread Josh Burdick
Ah, i didn't realize that. When I enabled it, it didn't work at first,
but then after I restarted the program, it worked.

I'm tempted to argue that message filters should be on by default for
mailboxes besides "On This Computer". These days, what proportion of
Evolution's target userbase is recieving mail in /var/spool/mail, as
opposed to via POP/IMAP/Exchange? I guess there's messages from cron
and such...

But I digress... Mostly, am glad it works, thank you for explaining the
problem, and sorry for the bogus bug report.

[Bug 1] Re: Microsoft has a majority market share

2006-06-11 Thread Daniel Brodzik
Yeah, I can verify this bug. When I bought my laptop, they said the only
way I can get a refund for Windows is to return the whole laptop. So I
was stuck paying for software I NEVER used.

It's hard to find stores around here that will sell computers without
Windows. I am sick of paying for software I don't use. (The computers
that come with Linux were too expensive for me.) This bug is so
critical, the only way to fix it on my laptop was to format the entire
hard drive and install Ubuntu!

I don't fully understand why PC manufacturers don't preinstall Ubuntu
and other free OSes on their systems because they are royalty-free.

[Bug 43745] Re: Ubuntu corrupts real time clock on some dell laptops

2006-06-11 Thread Klaus Reimer
Ken, I think your problem is a different one. The "thorough" boot mode
made things worse for me. When the CMOS clock is corrupted then my D820
was still able to boot but the hardware clock was no longer working and
the counter in the grub boot menu was no longer counting down. The
"Time-of-day-clock stopped" error appears when the BIOS does a thorough
check once (which is also done when a BIOS setting is changed) while the
CMOS clock is corrupted. During my extreme-rebooting tests I had
activated Thorough boot mode so I can immediately see when the BIOS gets
corrupted. So at least for the Latitude D820 the "thorough" boot mode
does not fix the "time-of-day clock stopped" error. That's why I think
that your problem may have nothing to do with this bug. Or maybe your
laptop reacts totally different to this bug than other laptops.

[Bug 33504] Re: Server failure with S3 86c764/765 [Trio32/64/64V+]

2006-06-11 Thread Daniel Brodzik
My current workaround for my Pentium II system with a Number Nine 9FX
Motion (S3 Vision 968) is to use the VESA driver. It is really slow, and
it doesn't allow me to use the whole 2MB VRAM on the card (VESA only
allows 1MB VRAM on this card), but at least it works at 800x600 with
16-bit colors, so I can at least *use* the system...

I hope this gets fixed soon, because this computer performed really well
with the native driver.

[Bug 49427] installer crashed

I've tried with little success to get the recent release of Ubuntu to
work. If I don't get a black screen I get the following screen

  install(sys.argv[1])
File "/usr/bin/ubiquity", line 54, in install

there are another 9 or 10 lines of similar but since I have to copy by hand and
then reenter on another machine I've just shown the above. The final line of
feedback says

The machine is a HP Pavillion, 1 GHz AMD Athlon, VIA KT133/KT133A

Oh yes, I can't attach /var/log/syslog, /var/log/partman and
/var/log/installer/syslog, as mentioned in the error text since the
machine doesn't work. By not working I mean two things. The screen is
not rendered properly (especially the bottom of the screen) and after a
key or mouse button press it takes a minute or so for anything to
happen.

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: bluez-utils

Bluetooth support is broken on Ubuntu 6.06 LTS/PowerPC.

It wasn't a system crash as a USB Mouse worked when I plugged it in.
