[Touch-packages] [Bug 1549455] Re: Unity8-dash doesn't load on Intel Pineview graphics [qtubuntu: ASSERT: "eglDestroyContext(mEglDisplay, mEglContext) == EGL_TRUE"]
Relative to Unity7 on the Pineview system: mir_proving_server is much faster than Unity7 (perfect 60FPS compositing and egltriangle up to 1000FPS). Unity8 is much slower than Unity7 (only a couple of FPS at most and sometimes less than 1). Seems like (similar to mir_demo_client_eglplasma) some advanced shaders cause the performance to fall off a cliff. It's not obvious where the edge of the cliff is though, because everything keeps working, just much slower. We probably need a shader/GL debugging expert to look into it. ** Changed in: mir (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Invalid ** Changed in: mir Status: Confirmed => Invalid ** Changed in: mesa (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Invalid ** Also affects: qtmir (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: qtmir (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Critical ** Summary changed: - Unity8-dash doesn't load on Intel Pineview graphics [qtubuntu: ASSERT: "eglDestroyContext(mEglDisplay, mEglContext) == EGL_TRUE"] + Unity8-dash on Intel Pineview graphics crashes and restarts continuously [qtubuntu: ASSERT: "eglDestroyContext(mEglDisplay, mEglContext) == EGL_TRUE"] -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to mesa in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1549455 Title: Unity8-dash on Intel Pineview graphics crashes and restarts continuously [qtubuntu: ASSERT: "eglDestroyContext(mEglDisplay, mEglContext) == EGL_TRUE"] Status in Mir: Invalid Status in mesa package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in mir package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in qtdeclarative package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in qtmir package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in qtubuntu package in Ubuntu: Triaged Status in unity8 package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: This bug Makes the pc UNUSABLE when I try to launch Unity 8 and Mir, after writing the password on the login (in the image attached) the bar to enter the password disappears and my computer screen stays stuck without them let me do anything. the connection begins to separate and reattach alone and I can only move the cursor. it makes the computer unusable and I am forced to restart forced to then enter into Unity 7. represented in the screenshot is the lock status after entering the password. When that happens, pressing Ctrl+L (which forces focus on the address bar) doesn’t fix it. I added some debugging to the browser (printing Window.activeFocusItem whenever it changes), and it appears that when initially forcing active focus on the address bar the QQuickTextInput inside it gets active focus, then looses it. At that point the activeFocusItem is the TextField, but it doesn’t forward it to QQuickTextInput inside itself. That situation can be remedied by using a bluetooth mouse to click on the address bar, which restores active focus on the QQuickTextInput. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1579267] Re: plymouth-start.service: After: reference to non-existent keyboard-setup.service
It's not a bug for a systemd unit to reference a non-existent unit in 'Before' or 'After'; this declares sequencing relative to other units *if* they exist. If the named unit does not exist, the relationship is ignored - this is not a 'Requires' dependency. If anything, the bug here appears to be that the keyboard-setup.service is *absent* in 16.04. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1576409] Re: calling init.d script with "status" invokes pager
I have systemd 229-4ubuntu5 from xenial-proposed installed, and "/etc/init.d/networking status" now does not invoke a pager any more. ** Tags removed: verification-needed ** Tags added: verification-done -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to systemd in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1576409 Title: calling init.d script with "status" invokes pager Status in systemd package in Ubuntu: Fix Committed Status in systemd source package in Xenial: Fix Committed Status in systemd package in Debian: Fix Committed Bug description: Running e. g. "/etc/init.d/networking status" runs a pager (less by default). This is unexpected from an init.d script, and potentially breaks scripts or CLI programs that do this operation, as this then hangs eternally in the interactive pager process until the user quits it. This reportedly happens with "vagrant up" (see original Debian bug https://bugs.debian.org/765175). SRU INFORMATION: Test case: Run "/etc/init.d/networking status". In current xenial this invokes less which you need to quit. With the proposed fix this should return to the shell immediately without a pager. Regression potential: very low. The main visible change is the interactive usage of "/etc/init.d/foo status", but nothing in Ubuntu (nor hopefully anywhere else) *relies* on the fact that systemctl invokes a pager, particularly as this is not always done (it depends on whether stdout is a terminal and how many lines are written). [Touch-packages] [Bug 1574483] Re: assigns MAC-based names for devices with locally administered MAC address
I currently run systemd/udev from xenial-proposed, and when enabling tethering I now get enp0s29u3 as a device name, which is location based. Before, with 229-4ubuntu4 I got enx (MAC based). ** Tags removed: verification-needed ** Tags added: verification-done -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to systemd in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1574483 Title: assigns MAC-based names for devices with locally administered MAC address Status in systemd package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in systemd source package in Xenial: Fix Committed Status in systemd source package in Yakkety: Fix Released Status in systemd package in Debian: Fix Released Bug description: Originally from https://bugs.debian.org/812575: Our current /lib/systemd/network/90-mac-for-usb.link assigns MAC-based names to all USB devices. However, this is wrong and pointless for locally administered MAC addresses (with the second bit set to '1', see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MAC_address#Address_details). The old 75-persistent-net generator had this rule: ENV{MATCHADDR}=="?[2367abef]:*",ENV{MATCHADDR}="" which ignored these devices. We need to adjust 90-mac-for-usb.link to do the same, and only apply to universally administered MAC addresses (at least until https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu- devel/2016-April/039302.html gets concluded). We should simply fall through the default policy of assigning location based names. The kernel assigned ones have no meaning whatsoever, so this at least provides name stability for use cases where you can rely on plugging the device into the same port. SRU INFORMATION: Fix: https://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/pkg-systemd/systemd.git/commit/?id=ec7e332 Test case: - Plug in an Android phone and enable USB tethering, or a different USB device which uses locally administered MAC addresses, i. e. they change after every reboot of the device. The first byte of the MAC address must have the second bit set, i. e. the hex number matches ?[2367abef]. - Check "ip a". With current xenial version the interface name is MAC based, like "enx12345678", and it changes after rebooting the device. - With this fix, the name is location based, like "enp0s1u2", and it remains stable as long as you use the same USB port. Regression potential: This only affects naming USB network devices. It should be tested that devices with universally administered MACs (i. e. stable, second bit is zero) keep MAC based names to avoid changing existing stable names. For devices with locally administered MACs (i. e. random ones) the name currently changes all the time anyway, so any /etc/network/interfaces or firewall script that refers to them is already broken and there cannot be further regressions there. Also, the updated policy is only applied after a computer reboot or replugging the device, the name does not change while the device is already plugged in. The yiaddr variable would need to be adjusted to pull value from a new location, or initialized directly by the callers to dhcp_send() where the business logic would reside. --- Attempting to PXE boot both the 12.04.3 and 14.04 Live images. From the initial booting of the system via PXE, to when Ubuntu finally shows the desktop, almost 12 minutes will have elapsed. I am seeing this same behavior on both 12.04.3 and 14.04. After finding a number of similar erros via Google and no real resolution, I have opened this bug. The system experiencing this issue has multiple ethernet interfaces (actual HW, not a VM), some Google found solutions suggest hard coding DEVICE=eth0 in /etc/initramfs-tools/initramfs.conf, however this isn't acceptable as a system attempting to PXE boot may be using an alternate port for the network. I have found what looks to be a very similar bug filed for Debian, #584583, which also contains a patch for this issue (under Debian). I have no problems in PXE booting to various Windows, RedHat, Centos, or Fedora OSs. Ubuntu is the only Live OS that I'm attempting to boot at present. This is confusing, as for a user there seems to be no good reason for the swipe to have failed. He might try it again starting from the same place with the same result. Then he might try to start the swipe from a different point, and it will work. It won't be clear that it failed only when the finger was over the textfield. And as far as I understand, this shouldn't be the case. The textfield will always have a single line of text, so you will never need to do a vertical swipe inside the component. This is different from a TextArea that might have more than one line, and then a vertical swipe starting on the text area will result on a change inside the component, so the user will understand that he needs to swipe somewhere else to make a different part of the page visible. [Test case] Attempt to PXE boot using Ubuntu live images; see below for details. [Regression potential] This forces the yiaddr (client requested/current IP) to be set to 0 when sending DHCP messages; currently the messages are DHCPREQUEST and DHCPDISCOVER, which should typically only happen when there is no IP set on the device and it is otherwise unable to receive unicast (on account of not being configured). Should there be a need to send other messages which would require setting the yiaddr value to the current configured IP address, a naive change would break. The yiaddr variable would need to be adjusted to pull value from a new location, or initialized directly by the callers to dhcp_send() where the business logic would reside. --- Attempting to PXE boot both the 12.04.3 and 14.04 Live images. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1534682] Re: Not requesting desktop content when connected to monitor
Yep, as of now, you can fetch the shell mode by using the QPlatformNativeInterface::windowProperty api to fetch a "formFactor" property which will return an enum (look in mir for the enum interpretation) indicating what mode the shell is in. Connect to windowPropertyChanged for signal on change. This is an intermediary means of accessing this info, and it is clunky. The UITK needs to grow a proper API for this. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1578619] Re: [regression] Extra flickable margin added when using PullToRefresh
The bug was not introduced by the MR linked in the bug description. I reproduced the bug with this code, and pulling down the listview and releasing it with a vertical velocity: import QtQuick 2.2 import QtQuick.XmlListModel 2.0 import Ubuntu.Components 1.3 import Ubuntu.Components.ListItems 1.3 MainView { width: units.gu(40) height: units.gu(71) Page { id: page0 title: "Reuters" ListView { id: view anchors.fill: parent model: 15 delegate: Standard { width: ListView.view.width height: units.gu(5) text: index//title } onVerticalVelocityChanged: print("vv = "+verticalVelocity) PullToRefresh { id: pullToRefresh onRefreshingChanged: print("refreshing = "+refreshing) onRefresh: { refreshing = true; refreshing = false; //refreshTimer.start(); } } } } //Timer { //id: refreshTimer //onTriggered: pullToRefresh.refreshing = false //} } and with UITK r1930 (before the mentioned MR) and r1918. I think the bug was always there, the topMargin gets messed up by the PullToRefresh. However, pre-r1931, the topMargin was (incorrectly) reset to 0 when a new Page was pushed on the PageStack (which happens in onRefresh for the example linked to th ebug). Now that this no longer happens, the bug becomes visible when the Page is popped from the stack. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to ubuntu-ui-toolkit in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1578619 Title: [regression] Extra flickable margin added when using PullToRefresh Status in Canonical System Image: New Status in ubuntu-ui-toolkit package in Ubuntu: In Progress Bug description: The attached test works fine under OTA-10, but fails in rc-proposed. What for? 1. Did You know there are blind people who are able to write a message? Did You ever wrote a SMS message while driving a car/running or walking/ under the table on a meeting/at school without looking on the screen? Yes, it was possible. Now as we have smartphones we are forced to look on the screen to tap the right "button". Now if we had the proper cover for our phones, a simple 10 stickers or a prepaired foil for the screen, we would still be able to write only by touching, without having to look. But there is no proper keyboard layout. 2. I have a Nexus 5 device with Android. While turning on the phone with inserted SIMcard, we have to provide PIN number. Do You know Your PIN number? I didn't. Ubuntu phone forced me to remind it to myself. Why? Android displays the 0-9 numerical keyboard with the alphabet under the numbers, so that I do not have to know that for one of my phones the PIN is 6529 one for another 9274. If I have letters on my keyboard I can keep in mind 4-letter words, not numbers. I'm not an Android developer but I think there is a reason why they display the numerical PIN-keyboard this way. They are simply not installed - you can get the Apps scope by installing unity-scope-click, the rest you should then be able to install from the store, provided they are built for your architecture. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1576639] Re: memory threshold is too high
I did some extensive stress-testing on an M10, an MX4 and a E4.5, all running the latest rc-proposed image. I launched a number of applications (some native, some webapps) in the background, and then opened a number of tabs in the browser app (with the mechanism to unload tabs temporarily disabled). I observed that even when under quite some pressure (with more than 10 tabs open and active, including memory-hungry apps like google plus, hangouts, google docs, google maps, twitter, facebook), the free memory (MemFree+Buffers+Cached) rarely seems to go below 200MB (more often on the E4.5 than on the other two devices, which is expected because the E4.5 has 1GB RAM whereas the other two have 2GB RAM). I had to push the limits quite a bit to get the system OOM killer to kick in, and it never killed the browser app, always a background app. Those numbers and observations seem to indicate that an arbitrary threshold of 200MB should work reasonably well, instead of a percentage of the available memory. I’ll experiment further with that value. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to webbrowser-app in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1576639 Title: memory threshold is too high Status in Canonical Device Images: New Status in Canonical System Image: Confirmed Status in webbrowser-app package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: When opening new tabs in the browser, it decides if it should close existing ones based on level of free memory available in the system. And to follow up on previous comments: with the current approach we’ll never be able to fully prevent the OOM killer from kicking in (nor would it be desirable), what we need is an acceptable threshold that gives good results (prevents the browser from being killed while in the foreground most of the time) while being conservative enough to not close too many background tabs. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to webbrowser-app in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1576639 Title: memory threshold is too high Status in Canonical Device Images: New Status in Canonical System Image: In Progress Status in webbrowser-app package in Ubuntu: In Progress Bug description: When opening new tabs in the browser, it decides if it should close existing ones based on level of free memory available in the system. For example at 30%, the browser would close open tabs if there less than 1.2Gb mem free in a 4Gb device, but will only need 300Mb free on a 1Gb device. This is a very large difference. 2) In M10 with 2Gb it requires 600mb free. From idle, just opening the gmail in the browser, takes the avilable system memory below this. This means that in 2gb devices the threshold is never met, and the browser never runs more than one tab at the same time. this impacts user experience, specially in desktop mode. For example is not possible to open a document in the browser while attending a hangout. How to reproduce open a tab in the browser, go to youtube and play any video then open a new tab expected: music/sound in the video continues to play actual in m10: sound stops playing shortly after opening the tab To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/canonical-device-images/+bug/1576639/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~touch-packages Post to : touch-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~touch-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1579686] Re: Networkmanager crashes after I enabled ethernet connection
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a ".crash" file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. Now open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open the crash report you wish to submit. If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with 'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'. I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1578619] Re: [regression] Extra flickable margin added when using PullToRefresh
To summarize, there were 2 bugs: 1. PullToRefresh messes up the topMargin 2. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1545683] Re: Feature: T9 Layout
Hi! I duplicated this bug, so I paste my description here to share an idea that blind people use T9 layout to write messages cause they feel the buttons. You could "feel" (touch) the buttons by stickers on the screen so that we were able to write without looking on the phone as we used to do with old mobile phones. So here is may description from a duplicate: "I wonder if anyone will support my idea of creating a numerical keyboard option as we used to have in standard phones. What for? I'm not an Android developer but I think there is a reason why they display the numerical PIN- keyboard this way." -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to ubuntu-keyboard in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1545683 Title: Feature: T9 Layout Status in ubuntu-keyboard: New Status in ubuntu-keyboard package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Hi, a T9 layout for the keyboard would be pretty nice. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1579700] [NEW] libtool.m4 and ar conflict
You have been subscribed to a public bug: After upgrading from 14.04 to 16.04 I cannot compile bitcoin software. It seems autoreconf copies this file: /usr/share/aclocal/libtool.m4 to generate local libtool executable. It sets ${AR_FLAGS=cru} inside libtool, but this setting does not work with ar that was supplied to me with 16.04 update. It seems ar was compiled with --enable-deterministic- archives option, which results in this error: /usr/bin/ar: `u' modifier ignored since `D' is the default (see `U') To fix this error one needs to set "Ucru" flags instead of "cru". But "cru" is set as system default for autoreconf for some reason. ** Affects: libtool (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: bot-comment libtool -- libtool.m4 and ar conflict https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1579700 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to libtool in Ubuntu. -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~touch-packages Post to : touch-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~touch-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
