[Touch-packages] [Bug 1540108] Re: Blue dots for text marking/placing a cursor are too small

2016-05-03 Thread GTriderXC
Today I discovered one more issue while writing a message ona tablet. As
I put my finger to paste the text (which I copied by Select all cause i
was unable to precisely select what i wanted to copy-just as i described
above) I got two menu on the screen as You can see in the photo. One is
the known one from my previous photos with Select all and Paste and the
second one exactly with the same functions but in Polish "wklej"-Paste,
"Zaznacz wszystko"- Select all.

Why are there two menus on the screen?

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1437686] Re: NTP connects any 3 min and never stops

2016-05-03 Thread onimusha
So and here is the Fix for the non German speaking People.

It turn out that the Problem itself is not NTP.

In my Case it depends on a DualBoot wit Windows 7,
After making a change to /etc/default/rcS
and adding these lines

# UTC disable
UTC=no

The Problem didt not came Back.

My System-Time was always set back to UTC Time and while i Life in Germany the
NTP try always to Correct it,
After adding the above lines to the above file the System was set to use Local
BIOS time and dont have to always check the Servers to Correct it.

So hope i may help you with this.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1375215] Re: System runs out of memory - white screens frequently seen in web renderers

2016-05-03 Thread Olivier Tilloy
@Marcos: what do you mean by "uNav is generating a lot of
process/second"?

IIRC I once suggested you to monitor the 'webProcessStatus' property of
the webview, and offer some user feedback when it’s killed or crashed.
It doesn’t look like anything like that is implemented in uNav. You can
take a look at how it’s done in the browser app:
https://bazaar.launchpad.net/~phablet-team/webbrowser-
app/trunk/view/head:/src/app/WebProcessMonitor.qml.

  krillin 14.09 #2 + all updates applied

After running the system for a while (few minutes) the system runs out of
memory and start killing processes.
It is very visible with the webbrowser or webapps because it renders the page
and displays a white page when oxide-render is killed. Although it is not
specific to oxide, and any app are killed (address-book, system-settings, ...)
You can clearly notice that other apps are being killed because when you switch
to the app it's all blurry and take a while to reload, also it loses its state
(for example, you lose the message you were writing in the messaging-app)

There is no specific steps to reproduce. I have several scopes enabled
(photos, nearby, news) You don't have to have tons of apps open to
reproduce this. Launching the webbrowser or a webapps and navigating
on the phone between the scopes and the open app seems enough for the
  system to start killing processes.

Bug description:
When opening new tabs in the browser, it decides if it should close
existing ones based on level of free memory available in the system.
My understanding is that this is currenly set to 30% percentage of
  memory in the device.

There are two issues with this approach and setting:
  1) a percentage means that the threshold changes from device to device. While
theamount of memory needed to open a webpage is not device specific. For
example at 30%, the browser would close open tabs if there less than 1.2Gb mem
free in a 4Gb device, but will only need 300Mb free on a 1Gb device. This is a
very large difference.

  2) In M10 with 2Gb it requires 600mb free. From idle, just opening the
gmail in the browser, takes the avilable system memory below this.
This means that in 2gb devices the threshold is never met, and the
browser never runs more than one tab at the same time. this impacts
user experience, specially in desktop mode. For example is not
possible to open a document in the browser while attending a hangout.

  How to reproduce
open a tab in the browser, go to youtube and play any video
  then open a new tab

  expected:
music/sound in the video continues to play

  actual in m10:
sound stops playing shortly after opening the tab

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1546641] Re: unity-settings-daemon crashed with SIGSEGV in up_exported_daemon_get_lid_is_closed()

2016-05-03 Thread Rick Harris
Looks to be a race condition where the session (and so unity-settings-daemon)
is started before systemd has finished starting the upower.service unit.
u-s-d tries to query the state of power and segfaults when upowerd hasn't
finished initialising to be able respond.

>From syslog:
17:14:31 kernel: unity-settings-[1722]: segfault at 0 ip 7fe3799805a9 sp
7ffec6513af0 error 4 in libupower-glib.so.3.0.1[7fe37996f000+25000]

17:14:50 dbus-daemon[460]: [system] Successfully activated service
'org.freedesktop.UPower'

Confirmed this by doing the following:
1. Disabling lightdm from autostarting: systemctl disable lightdm

2. Reboot and wait until systemd starts upower.service

3. Start lightdm: systemctl start lightdm

4. u-s-d starts without issue and so default settings and themes are
applied, media keys work, etc.

2016-05-03 Thread Olivier Tilloy
Does a simple QML scene with a WebView launch in that VM?
You can save the following code snippet as test.qml and run it with `qmlscene
test.qml`:

 import QtQuick 2.4
 import com.canonical.Oxide 1.12
 WebView {
  url: "http://example.org";

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1451728] Re: [master] kde-config-telepathy-accounts package install error

2016-05-03 Thread Alberto Mardegan
Thanks Scarlett, the package looks correct now. What we still need is a
rebuild of the kaccounts-providers package: the last libkaccounts-dev
which is produced by the kaccounts-integration source package which
you've just rebuilt has some variables changed in a cmake file, which
should cause kaccounts-providers to install its files under another
path.

It might be a good idea to also bump the "libkaccounts-dev" build
dependency in kaccounts-providers to the very latest version, to force
it to take the new file paths.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1559308] Re: Plugging HDMI screen in causes system hang

2016-05-03 Thread Korydween
Hello,

I installed 4.4.8 and it works better but not perfect. I sometimes
manage to plug a second monitor, sometimes it freezes when I turn it on.
If the second monitor is plugged when the system boots, I often have
errors at boot "intel_dp_link_training_clock_recovery" and
"intel_wait_ddi_buf_idle". The system boots normally as soon as I turn
off the second monitor.

I managed to have it work some times, but I don't manage to see what
makes it work or not. But when it works, it works well.

I have a HP Elitebook 840 with Intel® HD8 Graphics 4400.

3.1 extra adaptor) then the whole system hangs, completely
unresponsive and needing a hard reboot. Before hanging the 2nd display
gets an image as expected, but the laptop's screen flashes randomly,
sometimes you see weird artifacts. Then the hang comes.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1576380] Re: Picking a file via content hub breaks OSK input in browser

I still can’t reproduce the issue, on M10 running rc-proposed.

@Bob: I’m probably missing a key step to reproduce the problem. Could
you maybe grab a video of your tablet while you’re reproducing the bug,
so I can understand what it is that I’m missing?

  2. Use the button to select a file attachment
  3. Navigate to picture gallery, select screengrab

On return cannot any text in text fields with on-screen keyboard..
Touch text field, keyboard pops up.. Field is not highlight orange,
letters typed do not appear.. You /can/ move the insertion point and
delete with the backspace key, but you can't enter new letters.

Work-around.. Flip out to another scope e.g today, and enter text
there e.g. Search box - keyboard works there.. Flipback to browser,
text field you left already orange bordered, keyboard works.

Seems to happen on other pages, but easy to reproduce on launchpad

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1364495] [NEW] Caps Lock state gets out of sync with state reflected on the keyboard LED

2016-05-03 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Both myself and Rick have witnessed this bug, but I'm still trying to
find a way to reliably recreate it.

The effect is that Caps Lock is on the the keyboard LED but lower case
letters are entered and using shift may or may not allow you enter
capitals, and vice versa.

I will update this bug with a way to recreate as soon as I have one.

  textfields capture vertical swipes

Status in ubuntu-ui-toolkit package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
When you try to swipe a page vertically to make the bottom or top visible, if
you start the swipe with your finger over a text field, nothing will happen.
This is confusing, as for a user there seems to be no good reason for the
swipe to have failed. He might try it again starting from the same place with
the same result. Then he might try to start the swipe from a different point,
and it will work. It won't be clear that it failed only when the finger was
over the textfield.
And as far as I understand, this shouldn't be the case. The textfield will
always have a single line of text, so you will never need to do a vertical
swipe inside the component. This is different from a TextArea that might have
more than one line, and then a vertical swipe starting on the text area will
result on a change inside the component, so the user will understand that he
needs to swipe somewhere else to make a different part of the page visible.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1370557] Re: textfields capture vertical swipes

Title:
  textfields capture vertical swipes

Status in ubuntu-ui-toolkit package in Ubuntu:
  In Progress

I'd even say more: we see two different versions on a tablet depending
on horizontal and vertical position. I would like to be informed in
which version I'm in. Even if not able to choose the version, I'd only
like to know which version I see. As you can see in my photos in the
right upper corner of a page the BIC number of a bank is either shown or
not depending on the browser mood

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1560673] Re: Dangerous content?

2016-05-03 Thread Olivier Tilloy
I’m seeing this warning in the console when browsing to
myfitnesspal.com:

[JS] (https://www.myfitnesspal.com/:361) Mixed Content: The page at
'https://www.myfitnesspal.com/' was loaded over HTTPS, but requested an
insecure image
'http://d34yn14tavczy0.cloudfront.net/images/ua_shop_logo.png'. This
content should also be served over HTTPS.

This explains the warning in the address bar. Loading insecure content
over a secure connection kind of defeats the point of serving content
over HTTPS in the first place.

The second warning is completely unrelated, it’s due to that particular
website parsing the UA string to detect what browser it’s running in, an
error-prone and deprecated (although still widely used) practice. Not
much we can do about that, unfortunately.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1377033] Re: [Browser] Ability to switch to the desktop mode (desktop version)

2016-05-03 Thread Olivier Tilloy
@GTriderXC: the user agent string is currently solely based on the size
of the screen diagonal. So changing the orientation won’t change the
user agent. What seems to be happening in that specific case is that the
website itself changes its layout based on the available width. That’s
called responsive design.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1577696] Re: UI Toolkit and the Browser are opening copy/paste dialogs at the same time

2016-05-03 Thread Andrea Bernabei
Sorry about this...I think it's a regression, it used to be easily
dismissable...

would you mind filing another bug for that? I'll make sure the engineer
who works on text input is aware, in the meanwhile

Michal,

I personally feel that your decission to mark my defect as invalid is
incorrect, as it is an issue I am facing. What is your resolution to this
issue?

Bug description:
I have a 4K UHD laptop screen and am running Ubuntu Gnome 16.04 Beta1

If I plug in an external HDMI monitor (FHD) either into either HDMI
port (there's one on the machine and there's one available via a usb

unresponsive and needing a hard reboot. Before hanging the 2nd display

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1577710] [NEW] USB Mouse has to be unplugged and replugged in to work

2016-05-03 Thread Springnuts
Public bug reported:

General info:

What is the full manufacturer and model of your mouse - Not known:
generic USB unbranded mouse

How is your mouse connected to your PC: serial, PS/2, USB, USB
wireless, etc. - USB

What mechanism does your mouse use: roller ball, optical, trackball,
etc. - Optical

How many physical buttons and scrollwheels does you mouse have? - 2
buttons; one wheel (which also functions as centre button)

Two problems:

When plugged in the mouse is detected and starts working. After shut
down and restart, it does not work. If then unplugged and plugged in it
works perfectly again.

A second issue is that it works only if plugged into the USB 3.0 ports
on the left side of the laptop. It does not work in the USB 2.0 ports
on the right side of the machine. When running 15.10 it worked in any
USB port and did not need to be unplugged and re-plugged to work.
Machine is HP 455 G2 Laptop, AMD A series A8-7100 1.8 GHz, 4GB RAM,
500GB HDD, 15.6" Display, DVDRW, AMD Radeon R5, Webcam, Bluetooth.

bug status as "New", so will be looked at in due time.

On my Ubuntu phone, I have set my screen lock to come on after a
minute of none use. This is in the Settings > Security & Privacy >
Locking & Unlocking. The lock does come on as requested however, it is
instant. One second the screen is on and then the next the screen is
locked and black. There is no fade (like on my Ubuntu tablet), which
fades out giving me the option to cancel the locking, if you wish to.

Is there a setting that stops my phone from locking so fast and where
  I can increase the fade?

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1015819] Re: sb_sasl_generic_pkt_length: received illegal packet length when using ldapsearch and sasl with ssl or tls

2016-05-03 Thread Robie Basak
Thank you for figuring this out! I guess we need to see how upstream
wants to address the issue before we can address it in Ubuntu? Given the
root cause, it seems to me that it would only be appropriate for Ubuntu
to do what upstream does here to fix it.

** Description changed:

Using sasl binding only works with ldapsearch when not using ssl or tls.
If either ssl or tls is used I see this ouput from -d 1 from ldapsearch:

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1577643] Re: rsync 14.04 LTS still contains long term buggy version

2016-05-03 Thread Robie Basak
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1384503 ***

Thank you for your report.

We're already tracking this in bug 1384503 but are still awaiting a

unfixed in 14.04. Please see my comments 12 and 14 in that bug for an
explanation.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1577596] Re: ntpd not started by systemd

2016-05-03 Thread Robie Basak
** Changed in: ntp (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Undecided => High

--
You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu

https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1577596

Title:
  ntpd not started by systemd

Status in ntp package in Ubuntu:
  New
Status in systemd package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
After updating from 14.04 to 16.04 on a number of my systems, ntpd no
longer starts at boot on any of those systems.

  `systemctl status ntp` shows:
ntp.service - LSB: Start NTP daemon
Loaded: loaded (/etc/init.d/ntp; bad; vendor preset: enabled)
 Active: inactive (dead)
   Docs: man:systemd-sysv-generator(8)
May 02 19:10:14 host systemd[1]: Stopped LSB: Start NTP daemon.
May 02 19:10:17 host systemd[1]: Stopped LSB: Start NTP daemon.

Manually starting it using `systemctl start ntp` works fine. However,
systemd does not seem to want to start it automatically at boot time.

As best as I can tell based on trial and error, there is something
special about the combination of the service being named "ntp.service"
and the service depending on network.target. However, I haven't been
able to identify exactly what is causing this.

If I copy the init script to any other name, everything works fine:
  cp /etc/init.d/ntp /etc/init.d/ntpd
Edit /etc/init.d/ntpd and change "Provides: ntp" to "Provides: ntpd"
  systemctl enable ntpd
  # After a reboot, ntpd.service is started, but ntp.service is not.

  If I remove "$network" from the "# Required-Start: $network $remote_fs
$syslog" line in /etc/init.d/ntp, then systemd starts it automatically
... But of course it is started before the network comes up, so it
  fails.

If I replace /etc/init.d/ntp with a file containing only the following,
systemd won't try to start it automatically at boot:
  #!/bin/sh
  ### BEGIN INIT INFO
  # Provides: ntp
  # Required-Start: $network
  # Required-Stop: $network
  # Default-Start: 2 3 4 5
  # Default-Stop: 1
  # Short-Description: Start NTP daemon
  ### END INIT INFO
echo "script was run" >> /ntp.log

If I rename that same dummy script to /etc/init.d/ntp2, it is started
  automatically at boot.

However, grepping the systemd source code and my systemd config files for ntp
doesn't seem to find anything that might cause this behavior:
  /etc/systemd# grep -iR ntp *
  timesyncd.conf:#NTP=
  timesyncd.conf:#FallbackNTP=ntp.ubuntu.com
  /lib/systemd# grep -R ntp *

system/systemd-timesyncd.service.d/disable-with-time-daemon.conf:ConditionFileIsExecutable=!/usr/sbin/ntpd

system/systemd-timesyncd.service.d/disable-with-time-daemon.conf:ConditionFileIsExecutable=!/usr/sbin/openntpd
  Binary file systemd-networkd matches
  Binary file systemd-timedated matches
  Binary file systemd-timesyncd matches

What else can I do to debug this further?

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1546641] Re: unity-settings-daemon crashed with SIGSEGV in up_exported_daemon_get_lid_is_closed()

2016-05-03 Thread Rick Harris
One last thing...ice in comment #12 said:
"Some people say it has to do with a ASMedia USB Controller"

Have found that USB enumeration failure can cause a bottleneck in
systemd getting the upower.service unit to finally start.

You'll know if the system is hit with this as it'll be much slower to boot and
the kernel will spew errors of the type:
kernel: usb 2-1.1: device descriptor read/64, error -110
kernel: usb 2-1-port1: unable to enumerate USB device

Occasionally after several suspend/resumes, I have a USB device
(wireless game controller) that must be unplugged/replugged to stop this
error (simply rebooting does not fix).

Have found on my laptop, if the USB enumeration boots through without
any error then it's quick enough to have systemd start upower.service
in time before u-s-d is started, otherwise the u-s-d segfault occurs as
above.

Thanks :)

Bug description:
On some devices, like arale or turbo, triggering edge gestures is
quite tricky. Increasing the width for edge gestures helps with that.
However, we can't generally increase the width because that would
cause false-positives on other devices like krillin or vegeta.

=> The edge width should be configurable so that a device-specific
width can be set in the device device tarball.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 704123] Re: Network Manager asks for the PIN even if it is memorized

2016-05-03 Thread phaidros
As

> You can solve the problem if you uncheck the option "All users can connect
> with this network" in connection settings.

this is true, works for me and should point to the right direction where
the actual bug might be.

from wild guessing: if checked "All users can connect with this network"
network manager will avoid to use the stored PIN in /etc/NetworkManager.
So, the quetsion standing is: why isn't it using the PIN stored in
gnome-keyring, if available.

Then again, the workaround mentioned by themroc should be sufficient for
almost all use cases of this hardware (where does one really need
multiple users on a mobile machine being able to use the same UMTS
connection, where at the same time it is impossible to add that same
connection for each user once ..?)

my 2 cents :_)

  HOW TO REPRODUCE

  1. Plug the USB modem into a port.

  2. When you are asked to enter the modem's PIN, do along with the
  "automatically unlock this device" option.

  3. Unplug the modem, and plug it again.

  **
  EXPECTED BEHAVIOUR
  **

  - The modem to be automatically unlocked.

  **
  REAL BEHAVIOUR
  **

  - You are asked to enter the PIN again.

  WORK-AROUNDS

  - Changing the SIM's PIN to empty.

  - Renaming the "/usr/share/nm-applet/gsm-unlock.ui" file.

  RELEVANT DETAILS

  - The same behaviour when configuring the PIN from the "Network
  Connections" menu.

  - Even if the PIN is stored in "/etc/NetworkManager/system-
connections/", Network Manager cannot retrieve it.

  - The bug makes the device to become locked as soon as network
connectivity is lost for a while.

  - This bug forces administrators to tell the PIN to other users, while
they will rather want to keep it in secret and just allow themselves
to be able to configure the connectivity in specific devices.

Fixing bug 1497085 was a great start. However instead of crashing
Unity8 now just shows the most recently created window by the app in
the apps /single window/, and stretches it too. When such a secondary
window like a menu or tooltip closes, you never get back to the
original app window. So existing apps still aren't quite usable yet.

  Test case:
  sudo apt-get install mir-demos
  mir_demo_client_multiwin -- --desktop_file_hint=unity8

Expected: Three windows (red, green, blue)
  Observed: Only the blue window

You can also experience the same bug with lots of apps via: Xmir

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1577738] [NEW] pm-utils does not write pm-suspend.log file

2016-05-03 Thread Francis Lamonde
Public bug reported:

Hello,

I hope I'm filing this information the proper way and I thank you for
reading it.

1) Kubuntu 16.04
2) pm-utils 1.4.1-16

3) As far as the info I could find, the package "pm-utils" is supposed
to write log files in /var/log, such as "pm-suspend.log". These log
files, as you know, help troubleshoot hibernate/resume issues.

I happen to have one issue with hooks that don't run on resume, that do
run prior to hibernate when I run them manually and don't after resume
when I run them the same manual way. (different issue than this bug
report)

4) Therefore I need to scan through pm-suspeng.log file, but the file is
not created on my machine, anywhere on the HDD.

I have added my user to the "systemd-journal", "root" and "sudo" groups,
in case that could help, I still don't see the log file.

With previous Kubuntu versions (13.10 and others before, didn't try
between 13.10 and 16.04), this log file was created right away.

After searching and trying things out, I'm leaning towards the
possibility of a bug, which is the reason why I am posting here.

I do not know what other information to provide.

Thank you

Title:
pm-utils does not write pm-suspend.log file

Status in pm-utils package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:

I happen to have one issue with hooks that don't run on resume, that
do run prior to hibernate when I run them manually and don't after
resume when I run them the same manual way. (different issue than this
  bug report)

  4) Therefore I need to scan through pm-suspeng.log file, but the file
is not created on my machine, anywhere on the HDD.

I have added my user to the "systemd-journal", "root" and "sudo"

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1510969] Re: Windows cannot be resized near screen edges

2016-05-03 Thread Daniel d'Andrada
Resizing near left or right display borders does work now. Only
remaining issue in this topic is that near those display edges the
cursor shape only changes once you click on the window border (instead
of changing already when the mouse hovers over the window border). But
that's a different bug from the one reported here.

unity8 now supports applications with multiple top-level surfaces (shown
as windows in unity8). I suppose that might have fixed this bug

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1574120] Re: Notebook doesn't suspend when lid is closed after update to 16.04

2016-05-03 Thread Martin Pitt
@Neil: So for you, unity-settings-daemon mis-detects the displays and
sets that inhibitor. This is a bug in unity-settings-daemon and thus a
completely different root cause than the original one that patrick70
filed. Please file a separate bug about that, and include the output of
"xrandr" there (or, if you have a bug marked as a duplicate, un-
duplicate it).

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1577596] Re: ntpd not started by systemd

2016-05-03 Thread Martin Pitt
I cannot immediately reproduce that by installing ntp on 16.04, that
works fine and starts both after package install and after reboot. I
suppose that this causes a dependency cycle somewhere. Please do "sudo
journalctl -b > /tmp/journal.txt" after a clean boot and attach
/tmp/journal.txt.

Title:
  ntpd not started by systemd

Status in ntp package in Ubuntu:
  New
Status in systemd package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

  #!/bin/sh
  ### BEGIN INIT INFO
  # Provides: ntp
  # Required-Start: $network
  # Required-Stop: $network
  # Default-Start: 2 3 4 5
  # Default-Stop: 1
  # Short-Description: Start NTP daemon
  ### END INIT INFO
echo "script was run" >> /ntp.log

If I rename that same dummy script to /etc/init.d/ntp2, it is started
  automatically at boot.

However, grepping the systemd source code and my systemd config files for ntp
doesn't seem to find anything that might cause this behavior:
  /etc/systemd# grep -iR ntp *
  timesyncd.conf:#NTP=
  timesyncd.conf:#FallbackNTP=ntp.ubuntu.com
  /lib/systemd# grep -R ntp *

system/systemd-timesyncd.service.d/disable-with-time-daemon.conf:ConditionFileIsExecutable=!/usr/sbin/ntpd

system/systemd-timesyncd.service.d/disable-with-time-daemon.conf:ConditionFileIsExecutable=!/usr/sbin/openntpd
  Binary file systemd-networkd matches
  Binary file systemd-timedated matches
  Binary file systemd-timesyncd matches

What else can I do to debug this further?
