[techtalk] Linux file server for Mac via TCP/IP?
Anyone heard of a package for Linux that provides file services for macs via TCP/IP instead of Appletalk? I have heard rumours of such a thing existing, but I can't seem to find it anywhere. I have seen both CAP and netatalk, but both of those apparently use Appletalk. [techtalk] Open AOL server?
Is there a free/open implementation of AOL's Instant Messanging Server? I think it uses their own protocol called TIK/TOC. I've searched freshmeat and linuxberg and was able to find a transparent AIM to IRC gateway (aimirc) but nothing that was pure AIM. Just thought I'd inquire because I haven't really been following slashdot/software news lately. netatalk works with both classical appletalk and appleshare IP... and if I'm not mistaken appleshareIP is tcp/ip based (definatly ip) /"\ . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . \ / ASCII Ribbon Campaign [EMAIL PROTECTED] X - NO HTML/RTF in e-mail http://www.curious.org/ / \ - NO Word docs in e-mail"This quote is false." -anon On Tue, 29 Aug 2000, Ryan Thibodeau wrote: > > Anyone heard of a package for Linux that provides file services for macs via > TCP/IP instead of Appletalk? You could use Samba on the Linux side; there is a commercial Samba client for MacOS, DAVE (http://www.thursby.com/). Why don't you use Netatalk? It works quite well with Linux, just be sure to include the latest asun patches if you decide to compile netatalk from scratch. olive -- Olivier Tharan, <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Je n'ai pas perdu l'esprit ; il est sauvé quelque part sur une bande. ___ techtalk mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.linux.org.uk/mailman/listinfo/techtalk
