[techtalk] Techtalk FAQ
There is currently no techtalk FAQ. The rough outline exists, but is really nothing more at this stage than a set of docbook tags and a couple of headings. Working on it. Suggestions are accepted and appreciated. Jenn V. -- "Do you ever wonder if there's a whole section of geek culture you miss out on by being a geek?" - Dancer. [techtalk] friendly html/php editor on linux?
hi all, great list! I'm new but this is the best list I've ever been on. Here's a question: I like to code in Allaire's HomeSite b/c of all the nice color coded tags (it recognizes php, perl, javascript and other stuff) and other ease-of-use features. But my development platform is php/apache/mysql. Does anyone know of a similar type editor for linux? I currently use vi with about 5 X-Term windows open at a time. There is some type of "advanced editor" on the KDE desktop which reads C, Java, and C++, but not PHP. Is EMACS the only way? Any suggestions would be appreciated. thanks! Maria Maria B. There's a list at http://www.itworks.demon.co.uk/phpeditors.htm I can't vouch for any of 'em, because I just use Emacs. - julie ++ | Julie Meloni | | Tech. It's what I use for my web editing, though I think that's about to change, as it's more than a bit behind the times. Other ones which are perhaps a bit more advanced, and have more current development are Bluefish and Screem. Here are the home pages for each: WebMaker: http://www.services.ru/linux/webmaker/ Screem: http://www.screem.org Bluefish: http://bluefish.openoffice.nl/ Good luck! Re: [techtalk] friendly html/php editor on linux?
There is only one worth its salt these days...WebMaker for KDE/QT. It has full syntax color highlighting and a dir tree for manipulating the web layout. I love it. I tried quanta, recently, but WebMaker is still better IMO. Both have an tabbed MDI inteface and are fully GPM capable. And unlike VI, or Xemacs, the key copmbinations are logical and standard. Both can be found at Linux Tucows. (Just so you know, I am an emacs convert. I only use emacs now from the console). [techtalk] Call for tester and players.
Hey all. I wanted to take this time to ask you all for your help. Due to the efforts of many a fine coder and the continual support and assistance of LinuxChix and OCLUG, we now have an alpha version of our game Crimson Lust online at http://ns.midnt-x-press.com/linux/crimsonlust/ Crimson Lust is a SMAUG based Multi-user online medieval dungeon style game. Only the first fifty levels are complete and we still have a few bugs and features to work out. We could really use your feedback and ideas. PS the code it GPL and the game is free. RE: [techtalk] Call for tester and players.
Hi Shad, I'm having trouble logging on to the telnet site. Is SSH set up there? If so, do I need a username and password? :) Carolyn > -Original Message- > From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] > Sent: Tuesday, June 06, 2000 2:06 PM > To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Subject: FW: [techtalk] Call for tester and players. > > > Hey all. [techtalk] tftp timing out
I think I must be missing something very obvious here. When I try to do a tftp transfer from another machine to mine (running solaris 8), the request is timing out, but from what I can see the server is running correctly on my machine, and both machines can see each other (ping, traceroute). inetd.conf reads: tftp dgram udp6 wait root /usr/sbin/in.tftpd in.tftpd -s /tftpboot and I've kill -1'd it each time I've made any modifications. Any ideas? ~~~Nicoya... ___ techtalk mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.linux.org.uk/mailman/listinfo/techtalk

Granted, I am *hating* MySQL and PHP right now, but that's my own fault. Both books I have for them are great, I just haven't had the time to actually read them both yet, but I am still USING them to figure out this bear of a project I have to work on. This LinuxChic is in WAAAYYY over her head with this one, and I told them that, I *told* them that I did NOT have the technical knowledge to handle this project on my own, but then, oh well! My knowledge of PHP goes far enough to modify a script to tweak it a little to what I want, and yet this stinking shopping cart project got thrown on my lap. ::grrr:: But then, I digress! I hardily recommend the New Riders MySQL book, 50 bucks, and worth it. I have the Wrox Professional PHP programming book, good so far, but it would be better to start out slowly and actually do the projects in the book instead of having to skip ahead five chapters ;-) Amy | [EMAIL PROTECTED] ___ techtalk mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.linux.org.uk/mailman/listinfo/techtalk
