Re: [Talks] Nokia n86

2011-11-27 Thread Eleanor Burke

I do not know N86 but you will go to Menu and Settings, then Connectivity.
There you arrow through the various items and select WLAN Wizard, the wizard
will look for your wi-fi. With your cursor on your wi-fi or by arrowing to it.
Then press options and arrow to set access point. Select this and you will be
asked for your wi-fi key. Insert this and press OK. You should then be informed
that a new access point has been set. Sorry this is just a rough guide.

Heya folks,

This phone is awesome what it can do but boy oh boy has it got features
galore, I need help on 2 issues at this stage am using the phone a lot
connecting to my wireless lan, I have no problems connecting, do what I need
to do for a short time but where can I go in the features/options to stay
connected permanantly whilst I am at home and close to my network? As it
doesn't seem to stay connected, this is important when I'm trying to use
skype via my wireless lan for example

Also what is the battery model and best battery that gives longlife to
purchase
Cheers,

Jim

Re: [Talks] Nokia n86

2011-11-27 Thread Carla savage
Hi Jim,
the only way you will permanently stay connected to your wifi is to not exit
out. If you press key 2 to close the web browser, this also closes the session
with the wifi until you open web browser again. The only way is to open your
application and leave it open. So log into skype and once logged in, press and
hold the menu key. You will then get a list of running applications. Arrow to
the standby screen and you can stay that way as long as your battery lasts.
I haven't looked at a long life battery for the N86 as when i last looked,
there wasn't one. I've ended up by buying about 5 of them and cycling through
them. It keeps my phone running at all times.
Hope this helps,
Carla.

Gary Ray here. I have an Nokia N 86. I wanted to use the N 86 as a hot
spot. I bought Joykuspot and, indeed, it works like a charm.
Unfortunately, the device I wanted to hook up, PAC Mate Omni, will not work
with the hot spot set up. Freedom Scientific produces the PM, but they were
no help at all. I understand that other blind devices may work with the N
86 and Joykuspot.

It is kinda a crap shoot as to whether or not the set up you are considering
will work. You pays your money and takes your choice.

I must note that the folks at Kurzweil tried to help me. I will also note
that Michael Hingson tried to help, too.

Hi. Yes, I've tried that, without and and with WEP switched on, many
times. Still no good.

Thanks for the suggestion anyway.

just out of interest have you tried disabling wep to see if it will work
with an unsecured connection?

Agreed! It is a pain that the PM Omni will not work. What is the worst
is
the fact that Freedom Scientific will not just state the fact that it
will

not work. They waffle and prevaricate about the facts and refuse to help
out. Oh well, I guess you pays your money and takes your choice.

Hi. I have a Pac Mate Omni as well and had no luck using JoikuSpot with
it.
Using it with a laptop or another phone worked fine though. No idea
what's

different in the Pac Mate Omni's Wifi card that won't allow me to connect
that way. It's a pain!

Hi,
Joikuspot works great with a netbook or an IPod Touch and an N86.
Take care,
Carla.

Gary Ray here. I have an Nokia N 86. I wanted to use the N 86 as a hot
spot. I bought Joykuspot and, indeed, it works like a charm.
Unfortunately, the device I wanted to hook up, PAC Mate Omni, will not
work
with the hot spot set up. Freedom Scientific produces the PM, but they
were
no help at all. I understand that other blind devices may work with the
N

86 and Joykuspot.

It is kinda a crap shoot as to whether or not the set up you are
considering
will work. You pays your money and takes your choice.

I must note that the folks at Kurzweil tried to help me. I will also
note

that Michael Hingson tried to help, too.

Hi, anyone still using this? I need to have net access and wonder if this
is
still the best way to go with my n86.
Thanks.

Yep, jjust not with the Nokia phones. Think it's gona be one of those annoying
tech mysteries.

Anyway, I think we're probably getting a bit off-topic with this now, as the
phones and JoikuSpot work with iPods and other gadgets.
