[Talks] FW: [talks-uk] Question on Ovi maps and Y browser

2011-03-04 Thread Carla savage

Hi,
has anyone successfully used OVI maps to walk a route. I have managed to put in
a route, set it to navigate whilst i walked it. All i got was the occasional
bleep and a vibration. What are people getting? Could it be that i need to
check what version of maps i've got? I'm using an N86. I can check where i am
by going into the route points and checking status. This gives me the signal
strength and where i am.

Also, can you use Y browser to blue tooth files? I only have 2 options under
the sending file option. Wher can i get more plug ins? I downloaded the version
from the link from the blind sea site but can't fine any more plug ins.
Thanks,
Carla.

The only thing I can suggest is to go through the settings menu and
then download walk guidance voice of your choice. Preferabley English
with street names. I had this problem before and this is how I'd
resolved the issue.

Eleanor,

I have a similar experience running the C5 with the latest version of talks:
the apostrophe is not spoken. However, the dash is spoken in my case. When I
press the long star, it cycles through speaking all punctuation marks
including the apostrophe.

Ok this is all very interesting now. I did do long press of the * key and
I did get ther punctuation and could read through all of it. However I
found that when I am in a text message and press * another window opens.
If I arrow down the 2nd option I have is motacons. There is an option for
more emoticons but I cannot read what these are. Anyone know if Talks
will read this. I have tried with punctuation off but no good.

What do you have your punctuation level set to? This is Talks followed by
a press of 4. Are the same symbols not spoken when you do a long press of
star and arrow throu the different symbols? Also when you press 1 to get
the full stop, what happens when you give a short press of the star. Does
it then cycle between the different punctuation characters? Are they
spoken then? Just trying to see if this is for all cases and may depend
on the punctuation level in Talks as far as how you have it set.

[Talks] Edit field in contacts

2011-03-04 Thread LA Watters
Hi all,

I have noticed that the C5 has no edit field in the contacts menu. This
feature was convenient if you wanted to use a number for a different phone or
to call it out to someone. Talks allowed you to arrow through the number digit
by digit.

Also, on the C5 when you press on open in the contacts menu, instead of reading
out the available numbers like it did on the N73, you are given two options:
call or message.

How do talks users access the actual phone numbers in their contacts?

Re: [Talks] Edit field in contacts

2011-03-04 Thread Allan
hi,
take note that the problem is not because of talks, it is because nokia did
some changes to the contacts application. to edit the
number of a contact, do the following:

in the contacts, select any name, press select key or press option>open, you
will now see 2 options, call and send message. at this
point, press option and arrow down to view details and press select. now you
can see the list of numbers and first/last name of the
person. to edit, just press the select key and choose edit.

HTH.

PS. sorry for my language.

Re: [Talks] Talks 5.2 Premium and C5

2011-03-04 Thread Adrien Collins
Hi Eleanor

How can I confuse you? Ok I don't use predictive text, I
think I'd make too many mistakes that way. If I press number
1 and I want to get to the apostrophe, I have to keep
pressing it until I get to it but if I stop a second too
long it puts in the character I landed on and have to start
again, this can be frustrating. It's not the easiest
character to get to. It's a pity we can't select the order
in which we want the punctuation. There are some characters
we use more than others.

Adrien

Well Adrian now you confuse me! Have you not been usisng
the apostrophy in
your text messages up to now? The quick way to do it is
this and it works!
Say the it's. Well after you write it then hit number one
key on the
numeric pad once. This produces a full stop. Not to worry
ignore Talks
saying period. Just go ahead and put the s and the text
will correct your
full stop to an apostrophy. This is in predictive text
though. I do not
know about standard text. Another point worth noting is
that in predictive
text if you are writing it's then when you hit the s Talks
will quite
rightly say P. You must then down arrow which will bring up
the options and
you need to arrow down to S and to select it.

Why are you not upgrading your firmware? I have found it
beneficial to do
so in particular when reading e-mail messges. It is not
ideal still the
reading of e-mails on the C5 but it is improved a little
from the previous
firmware.

Hi Eleanor

No problem, I have not up-graded talks, I am still with the
original version.

Out of interest, when I am looking for the apostrophe, is
there an easy way of putting it in instead of going through
all the punctuation on key 1?

Talks Premium - running recent release 17 February 2011 on
C5. Does not
read all punctuation. Anyone else having this problem. If
in Predictive
Text I hit the full stop (number one on the keypad) and then
down arrow to
get my choice of punctuation items 6 and 7 are silent.
These I have
discovered are apostrophy and hyphen. Any clues why Talks
does not read
these please?

Wow! If I'm using predictive text on any of my Nokia phones

You need to do a Talks right arrow to get Talks to read the
word and not
just a right arrow.

Re: [Talks] Talks 5.2 Premium and C5

2011-03-04 Thread Eleanor Burke
Not Stephen but here goes Adrian. Stephen is talking about the numbers on
the numeric keypad which produce the letter i t apostrophy and s to make up
the word it's. When you do predictive text you just press the number for to
get the letter I, the number 8 to get the letter T, the number 1 for the
apostrophy and the number 7 to get the S.

In a previous text you also asked about Talks and right arrow, you would
press Talks followed by the right arrow rather than both keys together.

Hope this helps.

Well Adrian now you confuse me! Have you not been usisng

the apostrophy

in
your text messages up to now? The quick way to do it is

this and it

works!
Say the it's. Well after you write it then hit number one

key on the

numeric pad once. This produces a full stop. Not to

worry ignore Talks

saying period. Just go ahead and put the s and the text

will correct your

full stop to an apostrophy. This is in predictive text

though. I do not

know about standard text. Another point worth noting is

that in

predictive
text if you are writing it's then when you hit the s Talks

will quite

rightly say P. You must then down arrow which will bring

up the options

and
you need to arrow down to S and to select it.

Why are you not upgrading your firmware? I have found it

beneficial to do

so in particular when reading e-mail messges. It is not

ideal still the

reading of e-mails on the C5 but it is improved a little

from the previous

firmware.

Hi.

After Nokia PC-Suite is installed, you should be able to access the phone
through Windows Explorer, and there should be two extra drive connected,
that you can access.

Naturly there can be properties, that restrict what you're allowed to
access, but ggive it a try.

You will not be able to see all the phone files with PC suite. I assume yo
you are wanting to look at the actual files and not just the directories.

Re: [Talks] exploring my phone memory

2011-03-04 Thread Allan
hi Dave,
thanks for your correction.

to set your phone to mass storage mode (depending to your phone model) go to
"menu > settings/control panel > connectivity > USB >
change the USB connection mode to mass storage instead of PC suite".

Alan,

I presume you meant "mass" and not "mess". But other than that, how do you
set the phone to mass storage mode?

hi FYI, you dont need to install PCSuite if you want to access the memory
card. just connect the phone as mess storage mode and you
will seeing another extra drive under your windows explorer.

Hi.

After Nokia PC-Suite is installed, you should be able to access the phone
through Windows Explorer, and there should be two extra drive connected,
that you can access.

Naturly there can be properties, that restrict what you're allowed to
access, but ggive it a try.

Hans Pauli.
