Here is a program called Mr. Lock. It is very cheep so even the very tight
wods can even get this one and or if you have no money to spare! It is FREE!
This means it cost you nothing! This program allow you to set your phone so
it lock in some program and not other programs. Here is the download link
and it works with Talks!

[Talks] Still having Trouble Installing Ovi Suites

2011-02-23 Thread Matthew Chao
Hi, Folks! I appreciate all the answers to my last query regarding
installing Ovi Suite. However, i still seem to be stuck.

I'm using Windows XP and Window-Eyes, along with the most recent
version of Talks on my N86. My question is: when I run the
installation file that I downloaded from Nokia, should I have the
phone plugged in? Also, Window-Eyes can't find anything on the
screen when I start running the installation program.

Additionally, I can't download maps using the older PC Suite, and I'd
prefer having maps on my phone. Please help. Thanks.--Matthew Chao

Try the following and see if it works any better on your phone. Some web
sites don't ahve the www in them and that could be why your phone didn't see
it as a link. So I've added the www in the link. You could always use your
PC to get the file as well.

I leave it set to none because I don't like my key pad locking all the
time. But my more recent phones have had a lock key on the side like the
n97 mini and the n86. So it was easy to lock the key pad quickly when I
wanted to- for example if I put the phone in my purse I didn't want it
typing things unexpectedly. On the e73 I have I've use the nokia
traditional key locking method which as far as I know works on all phones
that have phyisical function keys. Press function key 1 followed quickly
by
function key 2.Talks will say key pad locked. to unlock, press function
key
2. It'll ask if you want to unlock the key pad. press function key 1 then
2

again for ok. Touch phones I don't think that works with, but I know at
least some of those have the key lock on the side of the phone.

2011-02-23 Thread Stephen Giggar
No the Nokia web site uses flash so will not work well with screen readers
being it wants you to select your phone before it will let you download
Maps.

You can go to the blind sea web site to the 3rd Edition software link and
find OVI Maps software there for the N82.

Re: [Talks] question on the latest version of talks and a feed back

2011-02-23 Thread Stephen Giggar
No a blind person can install Talks on there own. Sighted help isn't needed
but can help. There is a reason for having no talking installer initially!
There is no TTS for Talks on the phone and there is no drivers between the
installer program and any TTS that may be on the phone. So at this time,
there isn't any talking installer for the Nokia phones for very first time
users. After you get Talks installed then you can leave Talks up and running
to install later upgrades for it.

Now to yor license code. You need to type in all 16 characters without the
dashes. You also need to make sure that the date is correct on your phone.
You also need to make sure that the license number that you are typing in is
for the phone that is was generated for. Another words, each license code
generated is for that phone and no other. So one license code for as a
example: lets say my N95 dash 3 red will not work on my N95 dash 3 red spare
one. Exact same model but different IMEI numbers.

Now as a extra note about license codes. The time on the license code starts
from the minute you generate it and not from the minute that you enter it
into the phone. So lets say you have a 30 day trial code but you wait 7 days
to type it in your phone after you got it. Well at that point, you would
only have 23 days left on it. It isn't Nuances issue if you didn't type it
in write away and start using it.

So please try entering your license code again without the dashes. Then may
sure that you turn on Phonetic spelling on your computer and go over the
code 1 character at a time. Some times, I have trouble hearing the
difference between each of the characters and by doing it this away I'm
certain of what was entered. Then before I press the OK button on the phone,
I use the left arrow and go all the way over to the left to the first
character and then do the same on the PC and compare them 1 at a time to
make sure there are no errors.

Re: [Talks] question on the latest version of talks and a feed back

2011-02-23 Thread Stephen Giggar

Louis

Do you have the date and time set on the phone?
Are you able to connect to the PC with the phone using PC Suite mode?
Are you able to see the phone in the Nokia phone browser on the PC?
Make sure that your phone keypad isn't locked! This can be done by press any
of the numbers to see if you get a touch tone or not. If you get a touch
tone, then press the End-call buttn to clear the screen.

If the answer is YES for all the above, then just arrow to the Talks*.SISX
file and press enter on your computer.

Answer YES to the PC Suite question about sending the file to your phone.
Now on your phone, start pressing SoftKey1 top left button every 5 seconds.
Do this 9 times.
Now wait and Talks should come up talking with the Nokia TTS after about 30
or so seconds.

At this point, you can go back to your PC and install the TTS that you want
and Talks iwll read the install screens for ou on the phone.

No a blind person can install Talks on there own. Sighted help isn't
needed but can help. There is a reason for having no talking installer
initially! There is no TTS for Talks on the phone and there is no drivers
between the installer program and any TTS that may be on the phone. So at
this time, there isn't any talking installer for the Nokia phones for
very first time users. After you get Talks installed then you can leave
Talks up and running to install later upgrades for it.

Now to yor license code. You need to type in all 16 characters without
the dashes. You also need to make sure that the date is correct on your
phone. You also need to make sure that the license number that you are
typing in is for the phone that is was generated for. Another words, each
license code generated is for that phone and no other. So one license
code for as a example: lets say my N95 dash 3 red will not work on my N95
dash 3 red spare one. Exact same model but different IMEI numbers.

Now as a extra note about license codes. The time on the license code
starts from the minute you generate it and not from the minute that you
enter it into the phone. So lets say you have a 30 day trial code but you
wait 7 days to type it in your phone after you got it. Well at that
point, you would only have 23 days left on it. It isn't Nuances issue if
you didn't type it in write away and start using it.

So please try entering your license code again without the dashes. Then
may sure that you turn on Phonetic spelling on your computer and go over
the code 1 character at a time. Some times, I have trouble hearing the
difference between each of the characters and by doing it this away I'm
certain of what was entered. Then before I press the OK button on the
phone, I use the left arrow and go all the way over to the left to the
first character and then do the same on the PC and compare them 1 at a
time to make sure there are no errors.

2011-02-23 Thread Stephen Giggar

hmmm

What I would do is try regenerating the license code just encase you had
missed typed the IMEI number. Remember the IMEI is the first number on the
manual registration screen. It is 15 digits in length. By doing this, it
will nothing else resend a trial code to you that is the same as what you
have or give you a different one if you typed in the wrong IMEI number to
start with.

I leave it set to none because I don't like my key pad locking all the

n97 mini and the n86. So it was easy to lock the key pad quickly when I
wanted to- for example if I put the phone in my purse I didn't want it
typing things unexpectedly. On the e73 I have I've use the nokia
traditional key locking method which as far as I know works on all phones

function key 2.Talks will say key pad locked. to unlock, press function key
2. It'll ask if you want to unlock the key pad. press function key 1 then 2

Hi Stephen. What do you mean by the software having the ability to lock
in a program?
Original message:

Here is a program called Mr. Lock. It is very cheep so even the very tight
wods can even get this one and or if you have no money to spare! It is FREE!
This means it cost you nothing! This program allow you to set your phone so
it lock in some program and not other programs. Here is the download link
and it works with Talks!

Press function key 1 followed quickly by
function key 2.Talks will say key pad locked. to unlock, press function key
2. It'll ask if you want to unlock the key pad. press function key 1 then 2
again for ok. Touch phones I don't think that works with, but I know at
least some of those have the key lock on the side of the phone.

Said your key pad not to lock before you start using D2Go. I use D2Go
all the time and my phone doesn't say key pad locked. I go into
security and set the key pad not to lock.

But it does not work for me for some reason.
It keeps saying keypad locked even after i have done the changes and

Its a strange behaviour or maybe i am missing something here.
Any thoughts on this?

Yes you have to buy the service for the 3.01 version for the n82. You can buy
it for the most part as you need it. I'm one of these people who do not use a

hi,

i'll not encourage you to upgrade your c5's firmware, cause
i've gone thrue a very bad experience. not once, but twise.
once you upgrade firmware, it will affect your phone's sound
quality, and thus talks's voice will become lesser.

Steven,

Same problem as Eleanor and with a N95. I used the file in

the Blindsee zip

package.

However I had already installed Talks 5.20 from the earlier

Is there any possibility that the signing needs to be the

Daisy2Go work? Does it need to be installed to the Talks

Nuance TALKS&ZOOMS Version 5.20
Release Notification

1. Introduction

We proudly announce the release of the Nuance Accessibility
Suite - Nuance TALKS and ZOOMS - Version 5.20 supporting
Series 60 3rd Edition / 5th Edition for February 17, 2011.

This version also introduces support for Symbian^3 in Nuance
TALKS. Screen magnification using ZOOMS is not yet supported
on Symbian^3 in this release.

For Users with a Premium license this version also contains
the new Daisy2go 2.01 minor update.

This release uses the same versions of Eloquence and
Vocalizer as the previous one (6.1.123 and 5.22,
respectively). The TTS installation file for Eloquence US
English has been updated to extend the user dictionary.

Version 5.20 is a free upgrade for all Premium Edition
licenses generated after November 13th, 2007 (the release
date of TALKS 3.50 for 3rd Edition). In particular, this
means that it can be installed by any customer who is
currently able to run version 4.11 or 5.01 without requiring
a new license.

2. The new handsets

2.1. Changes to the list of supported phone
models

The following handsets are newly supported (please see
section 4 "Known Issues" about some limitations):

Nokia C6-00
Nokia C7-00
Nokia E5-00
Nokia N8-00

We also assume the following phones to work without major
problems. However we have not got enough test results yet to
definitely confirm this:

Nokia C5-03
Nokia C6-01
Nokia E7-00

See section 6 for a full list of compatible handsets for
this version.

3. What's New?

This section lists the improvements of TALKS&ZOOMS 5.20
compared to the previous version (5.01).

3.1. Support for Symbian^3

Nuance TALKS 5.20 is the first screen reader that supports
the new Symbian^3 platform that is used by Nokia in some of
its most recent smartphone models, such as the N8-00 and the
C7-00. Support for the just-released E7-00 is likely, but
has not yet been confirmed.

Overall, access to Symbian^3 works in a very similar manner
to the approach used for 5th Edition touch screen phones, by
relying on a combination of list navigation using the side
keys of the phone together with the ability to "explore" the
screen. As reminder, "exploring" can be started by holding
the finger on one position for about half a second, and then
moving around. Lifting and tapping again anywhere on the
screen will click on the most recently "explored" position.

As usual, some features, such as side key navigation, are
only available once the phone has been powered off and back
on after installing or re-enabling TALKS.

As a special feature for Symbian^3 phones which do not
include physical [Call] and [Exit] keys, such as the N8-00,
two new TALKS shortcuts have been introduced to still be
able to perform these important functions quickly:

[Talks],[Power] simulates the [Call] key, e.g. to accept an
incoming call or to open the list of most recently dialled
calls.
[Talks],[long Power] simulates the [Exit] key, to hang up or
reject a call. Note that the call is only hung up after the
[Power] key is released, unlike with most other "long" TALKS
commands.

A few remarks on specific areas with limited accessibility
on Symbian^3 phones:

. Symbian^3: screen magnification using ZOOMS and
Automation are not yet supported.

. Some Symbian^3-specific gestures, such as
pinch-to-zoom and long-tapping a

Adrien,

if you have bought a phone in the UK but now have it in France, there will be
no trouble in downloading the FW software for that phone anywhere in the world,
you may have issues downloading the latest French version, but no issue in
downloading the latest UK version.

you should not likely be downloading the FW update to your phone directly,
unless your phone has the software updater built into it, if it does, then it
should auto download and install the update for you. if not, you download the
update using Nokia's OVI Suite / Software Updater application, and download the
software then it will manage the install to your phone itself.

when did you get the code, is your phone new, or did you get it second hand, if
that phone has ever, ever at all, had a demo code issued for it, then a new one
will not work.

so if you, or anyone else, has ever issued a demo code, then you cannot get a

Hi Stephen. What do you mean by the software having the

Re: [Talks] Up-dating my nokia c5

2011-02-23 Thread Adrien Collins
Hi Neil

Ok yes the nokia c5 has a software up-date link in the
folder settings folder. I have downloaded it but it fails to
install. I have tried to use pc suite and the nokia software
up-dater, I have tried using super nova, nvda and a demo
version of the jaws but I cannot access the software
up-dater on my pc, any suggestions please. I didn't accept
that I would never be able to up-date my phone, I thought
with Europe being theoretically one huge state, there
shouldn't be any boundaries.

Adrien,

if you have bought a phone in the UK but now have it in
France, there will be no trouble in downloading the FW
software for that phone anywhere in the world, you may have
issues downloading the latest French version, but no issue
in downloading the latest UK version.

you should not likely be downloading the FW update to your
phone directly, unless your phone has the software updater
built into it, if it does, then it should auto download and
install the update for you. if not, you download the update
using Nokia's OVI Suite / Software Updater application, and
download the software then it will manage the install to
your phone itself.

Just wondering did you remove the old D2GO file first and

Steven,

Same problem as Eleanor and with a N95. I used the file in
the Blindsee zip
package.

However I had already installed Talks 5.20 from the earlier
posted ftp site.

Is there any possibility that the signing needs to be the
same to make
Daisy2Go work? Does it need to be installed to the Talks
package that it
came with?

Try downloading the ZIP file from the blind sea web site and
it should have
the latest files for Talks and maybe that D2Go file will
work. At least it
worked on my N95. Remember the Talks zip is under the Mobile

Ok. I've tried to install D2Go on every phone I

It doesn't work. It just says cert error, contact

Hi Eleanor

Yes it's very easy, the contacts list is the right hand hot
key, if I am not careful, I can easily press that key and
hit call before I realise what I am doing, I know as I have
done it a few times. I keep my phone in my pocket all the
time and it's easy to press a button when you lean on it.

Yes, Symbian is a real multi-tasking system. Start an
application and
then hit the menu key to start another application. When you
use the
long press of the menu key, you can see that you have
multiple
applications running at once. I often have my address book,
calendar,
messaging application, internet browser and so on all
running at the
same time.

In this case, you have the active standby turned on.
This
 means you can
arrow Left and Right to get to different programs and
then
 press select to
open that program. I wouldn't also suggest that you not
>>> use
 the End-call
button that is above the number three to get back to
the
 Standby screen. I
would suggest that you use SoftKey2 to cleanly exit a
 program when you are
done with it. The SoftKey2 is the top right button on
the
 C5. This will back
you out one screen at a time but cleanly exit a
program.
 Pressing the
End-call button is like going into the task manager on
>>> your
 computer and
telling it to end a task. This is asking for problem at
>>> some
 time down the
road, it is more likely to get corrupted being it isn't
 exited cleanly.

Adrien,

I can tell you now that the problem will not be location, it will be something
else.

from memory, updating the FW on the phone directly, does not cause the software
to be downloaded with you then having to do something to start the installation
process itself, you just click check for update, it reports an update being

Adrien,

if you have bought a phone in the UK but now have it in
France, there will be no trouble in downloading the FW
software for that phone anywhere in the world, you may have
issues downloading the latest French version, but no issue
in downloading the latest UK version.

you should not likely be downloading the FW update to your
phone directly, unless your phone has the software updater
built into it, if it does, then it should auto download and
install the update for you. if not, you download the update
using Nokia's OVI Suite / Software Updater application, and
download the software then it will manage the install to
your phone itself.

Same problem as Eleanor and with a N95. I used the file in

However I had already installed Talks 5.20 from the earlier

Is there any possibility that the signing needs to be the

simply find the File Manager, normally in the Tools or Applications Folder, or
finally in the Office folder.

in here look through the drives, but normally something downloaded goes into
the C or phone memory drive... delete it from in here, no-idea what it would be

what you could do is backup your phones memory, and format it, then simply
install everything again having formatted it.

this might hep you.

in here look through the drives, but normally something

Adrien,

I can tell you now that the problem will not be location, it
will be something else.

from memory, updating the FW on the phone directly, does not
cause the software to be downloaded with you then having to
do something to start the installation process itself, you
just click check for update, it reports an update being
available, and you say install, it downloads and installs in
one move, no need to validate anything or confirm that you
wish the process to start.

Adrien,

if you have bought a phone in the UK but now have it in
France, there will be no trouble in downloading the FW
software for that phone anywhere in the world, you may have
issues downloading the latest French version, but no issue
in downloading the latest UK version.

you should not likely be downloading the FW update to your
phone directly, unless your phone has the software updater
built into it, if it does, then it should auto download and
install the update for you. if not, you download the update
using Nokia's OVI Suite / Software Updater application, and
download the software then it will manage the install to
your phone itself.

Yes, Symbian is a real multi-tasking system. Start an
application and
then hit the menu key to start another application. When you
use the
long press of the menu key, you can see that you have
multiple
applications running at once. I often have my address book,
calendar,
messaging application, internet browser and so on all
running at the
same time.

2011-02-23 Thread Neil Barnfather - TalkNav
Austin,

a phone can only ever have one demo period lasting up to 30 days, this can be
made up of a 10 day trial followed by a 30 day trial, of which you'd only get
20 days of your 30 day trial, owing to you already having had 10 days earlier
on a previous demo code.

a phone can never ever again use another demo code.

so if you have ran a demo code on that phone before, even if it were for a
different version of Talks, then you cannot have another now.

hope that this clears things up for you.
