Hope he hasn't patented it. Mailman 2.1 implements it.

It's a great idea, and I'd expect it has been implemented or
is scheduled for implementation in the rest of the mailing
list softwares on the planet.

The ancient mailman 2.0.

But we're off-topic. I'll recuse myself from this thread.

I had assumed that it would need new code to support. That's
why I've been trying to figure out how the scoring code works.
(and trying to get the developers to notice this idea ;).

I don't think that it should be too hard to do, most of the
hooks are already there, but the devil is in the details. ;)

The answer may be different according to what version of SA you use. Per

version of SA you're using before we can help.

Yes! Head to http://www.exit0.us/ and
http://www.merchantsoverseas.com/wwwroot/gorilla/sa_rules.htm

Also, check the your installation for rules that have negative scores --
2.5x
had quite a few of them, and several spammers have learned to fake their
way to match those rules as well, helping their spam sneak through. Zero
the scores for those rules and you'll gain some immediate benefit.

Glad to hear it. I agree that VERP is very helpful.

I don't think we have to worry about DJB patenting it. I was more
commenting on how some developers tend to stay away from it if developed
by DJB; others flock to it... but that could spark a long debate about
DJB's software, coding and distribution practices, which I do not intend
to do.

(Note: I currently use qmail and ezmlm. I intend to say neither good or
bad about him, his software or anything else with this e-mail.)

rewrite_subject 1

[SAtalk] Possible to not add any headers?

2003-11-16 Thread Robert Nicholson
In addition to SA I use a local baysien based filter and I'm wondering
if having X-Spam-Flag: YES as a header in all messages will cause this
local filter to not be able to correctly identify false positives set
by SA.

Is it possible to simply possible to invoke is_spam() and in the
process not actually
had added any headers whatsoever to the message?

I know that in my case I could simply save the original header and
reconstruct the email using that header but I wanted to know if SA
already has any setting that stops it adding it's X- header information
or not?

This does seem to be the worst list I follow for threading errors in
general. Part of that is because this is also the most active list I
follow. More activity means more potential to errors (user or client).

Fortunately my email client has a thread manager that I can either join
un-threaded messages or cut the off topic ones. Even with this thread
manager sewing the messages of a thread back together is made difficult
by posters who do include the sender and date time stamp of the message
they are replying to. I hesitate to criticize these posters because many
of them are great contributors to the list.

[SAtalk] Problems moving from 2.5x to 2.6 ?????

2003-11-16 Thread Mairhtin O'Feannag

Hello,

I'm currently on version 2.53, and am going to install 2.6 on my machine this weekend. It's a RH 8.0 machine.

My question/concern is ... are there any known "gotcha's" in this move? It's a production machine, so I have to be very careful. Any forewarning you might give would be very much appreciated.

Also, will my local.cf be useless after the install? It has a lot of tests that no longer show up

in the "tests" page at SA.org. I'm told the tests that are advertised at the website are for the current version, and when I search for things, I find nothing. Will I have to find scoring by learning the methods the bastards are getting around, like I do now, but from scratch? I've built up some 50 additional score increases over the past 3 months, in an effort to keep our clients happy. It would be a shame to have to abandon all of them and find that I'm back to square one and they are deluged with spam again.

Any help is appreciated.
