[RBW] USBR 35 - west coast of Michigan
We just landed in Empire Michigan for the night. After setting camp we were found by a riv list member who graciously offered a rental house that was vacant for the night. The girls were happy as it was laundry night, and the house is amazing! Our travels will take us through Glen Arbor, LeLand and Northport on our way to Leelanau State Park tomorrow night. Followed by Traverse City. Michigan is truly beautiful, and the people have been wonderful. Not to mention the blessing of a riv member offering a roof for a night..we are very grateful! I've been enjoying my Olympus OMD E-M5. It's not my nikon but for Internet touring photos it's great. Don't try to live with cell phone or point and shoot. Try to make sure you have a viewfinder. [RBW] How much do you carry on your S24O?
Tom Repair tools alone is six more pounds. I think all my bags weigh in at close to 12 pounds before I load them. So with bag weight I'm generally around 60 to 70 pounds. This handles and rides well for me. We are in Mackinaw today on the last couple of days of the USBR35 and the gear handled steep climbs etc well. So your list looks good. [RBW] Mackinaw Island -
Well I'm home and grateful for another great tour. I'm still attempting to figure out what to do with photos but that will happen in time. One thing I found interesting was Mackinaw Island and the bicycles there as well as the people riding them. I didn't get to do a complete expose on it but I did ride through town shooting photos of different bikes and people on them as I rode. One thing that stood out was the lack of carbon fibre bikes... though I'm sure that is or would be different on weekends or other times of the year maybe.. Have no idea just that on this trip we saw very few there and come to think of it, very few throughout the trip. Here is the set... http://www.flickr.com/photos/tksleeper/sets/72157635248024906/ Later Kelly -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. Marc Actually, any myself included ferry their bikes across to visit and explore the island. I mentioned the carbon fibre as reference, as in the past I had mine and viewed several more. After thinking about it though I noticed a lack of carbon fibre sittings along the entire two week period. Unusual compared to other trips. No statement being made just an observation. [RBW] Used Bike Pricing - General - Mindless.. Dribble
. Well at least choice is more. For me the only bike out there with good tire clearance and 68cm is Rivendell. Gunnar makes a 68cm road frame.. just not as versatile. Come to think of it, if the Atlantis is or does what I hope - Carry heavy loads with the same stability and out of the saddle stability as the Bombadil, keeps the quick feeling and versatility of the AHH while also getting by as an event bike .. I could maybe get away with or live with a single bike. In my mind though I have not ridden it yet or built it yet.. the Atlantis my be the most versatile. Or not.. why wouldn't a trimmed down Bombadil do all of what the Atlantis will. is there a weight difference of any significance. hmm.. dura ace eltronic shift componetry with some carbon low count spoke wheels and 700x23's at 125psi on the Bombadil frame ... would it be wrong on this race bike to have a third water bottle cage if they are carbon fibre? 53/39 front 11/23 rear 11 speed. Could even paint a bright race car red with STP stickers. Hmm.. would STP work as chain lube? I digress but have just remembered that riding or attempting to ride a unicycle on rollers is not as good of an idea as it sounded at the time. Hope everyone has a great day... I'll shut up now. or quit typing as the case may be... My leather bar tape is getting ugly.. maybe wrap over it with cloth.. leather which has been a hard feel should be a reasonable padding for cloth tape.. for those gloveless like me. [RBW] Sweet - Good Thing
Well it's a good thing that no one purchased any of my bikes. I got out on the Quickbeam several times in the last couple of weeks. It rides so nice and was such a joy. I need to do some work on it... attach dyno hub wires better and look into the 700x37 Pasela tires that have been so spectacular on my AHH. I also pout albastach bars on this bike and need to fix tape and one cable housing that is mm's to short and been to lazy to mess with it. Regardless this bike is exceptional and I was crazy to think about selling it even if it doesn't get ridden enough. I had also put up an either or with the Ram and AHH and after having finally got the AHH setup with the Pasela, steel fenders flaps and racks it is perfect and riding sweet as a camera and pub crawl bike. While the RAM is just beyond belief as an event bike / go fast / century / good weather kinda thing though I have to change bar tape one of these days. What was I thinking.. sheesh... I would have shot myself had either of these sold. The AHH http://www.flickr.com/photos/tksleeper/9953574704/ Has that used look and utlra comfortable. Da RAM http://www.flickr.com/photos/tksleeper/9692508879/ My go fast bike... just a great ride for fair weather riding. The QB The one I was so intent of half assed getting rid of. I still think it deserves a better home.. just to lazy to work at selling it or giving it away. http://www.flickr.com/photos/tksleeper/9790602044/ My wife the one who is such a saint has indicated that the Atlantis though duplicating much of the Bombadil and AHH was still a good buy for me.. how could I turn that down?? I'll just have to build it up for it's own identity and niche. Even though it was never for sale and won't be since it's my favorite tour bike of all time and since it works so well going down stairs, over curbs and the only one with the double toptube I couldn't let it go.. here it is for bike race photo duty... http://www.flickr.com/photos/tksleeper/9652180012/ My favorite add ons to date: The Large Saddlesack - I can't speak loudly enough or praise it high enough. Just the perfect bag for me in most situations. The E-Delux Headlight - Even though I have a luxes B I still like the day to day operation and workings of the E-Delux better. Favorite Tires: 700x37 Pasela - just a sweet ride. 700x32 Gran Boise - Makes my go fast fast. :) 700x50 Supreme Evo Series - Almost as flat resistent as the marathon plus without the weight and still gives a quick feeling at 45psi. The rest cranks, bar tape dyno's etc seem to be whatever fits or is there at the time. .. the Sugino triple at 120 bucks has to rate in there for price as does the Shimano bar ends.. I just don't think about them.. much like BMX style platform pedals.. more about bearing life than looks and who makes them. It's all good.. and that's about where I'm at today.. hoping to get another 30 miler in tonight after work. [RBW] Re: Hookin' up shifters question
If using the index and new cable I screw the adjustment barrel all the way in as cables stretch. Then I pull the cable tight with needle nose pliers. It doesn't have to be guitar string tight but it shouldn't have any slack in it either. I've never been able to get it tight enough with just my hand. Everyone else that posted is correct as well. I just plan for cable stretch is why I put the barrel adjuster all the way in. Also when you cut the cable after adjusting... if you don't have crimp on ends or they are a hassle try using shrink tube. [RBW] Re: Dyno - SP Dynamo Hub
Tom The PV8 on my wife's Betty Foy, and the PV8 on the Holdsworth, including the other four I've built for friends bikes have all been holding up well. They have been ridden in raid / mud / light trails on tours etc. The drag is undetectable and honestly I can't tell the difference when getting on bikes with Schmidt. My only complaint is how narrow the flanges are and that only from an aesthetics view point. I've only built and used the PV and PD versions. Purchased all of them on eBay and received them usually within a week to ten days. Cost was in the 120 dollar price range. I highly recommend them. [RBW] Dyno - SP Dynamo Hub
My experience tells me that you will be able to charge devices just fine. Things I've found IPhone - with screen on and running a route on mapmyride app will maintain a charge but not add to. With phone just plugged in doing nothing it charges up quickly even while running lights. It's more about the speed you ride.. If you are at 10 mph you are very close to maximum I've seen same behaviors on shimano, sp and Schmidt. Of course they put out the same power mostly. It seems to me a 650 wheel with a dyno designed for 700 would hit full power at lower speeds. [RBW] attaching wires from the dyno to the bike frame.
So my the wiring runs I've done on my bikes have all been via zip ties. Then on here someone mentioned helicopter tape which sounded like a great way to do it. Especially if I could run a wire along the underside of a fender. I then went to purchase the tape and found it incredibly expensive and decided looking a wires wasn't so bad after all, on ebay found some 3m stuff at 7.50 for 9 inches. Then today messing around I found a place with racers tape in many different sizes and was able to get 36 feet for 36 bucks or so. Anyway may not be the cheapest may not even work.. i just ordered and will see what happens. Re: [RBW] 71Hilsen on eBay
There is lots of choice. Atlantis single top tube... Roadeo single top tube AHH up to 67cm stt The mud flaps are actually very functional and I like them better than the heavy leather flaps I got from Peter white since they held shape and dragged on grass less aggressively. I can't speak for other bikes but compare to previous stt bike my bomba 2tt handles the heavy loads I generally carry better. Especially when standing and climbing my old bikes felt noodle and the bomba just climbs like nothing is on it. Seems to me riv offers selection, function and good looks meeting the taste through differing models to reach a large audience. Kelly Thinking of painting second top tube as air pump now.. Ryan, That's what happens when one doesn't want to sell, or doesn't need to sell I guess. The light is a lumatec IQ I believe with auto sensing .. it was about 99 bucks a couple of years ago. Works nicely though. One thing has changed as it now has the albastach bars on it and the light wiring is cleaned up a little with a couple of sticks of airplane tape to see how well it holds up. I don't really know if 2k is a good or bad price, it's just the price for me to let go of it. :) I would take 1500 and I remove the dyno hub set of wheels, the fenders, lights and ablastach bars and stem and seat post. you would get bike one set of wheels/tires jb's, drive train.. 1500.00 +freight. :) I can use all those parts on the Atlantis... you can have the bag and front rack. Hope that dyno I sold you is all you hoped for. If you ever get in the St Louis area, please be sure to stop buy for a ride. I let it roll while hitting the brakes and pretending to stop in the hope that the leaf will want to survive and leave me alone. after a short period of time I stop and remove/destroy/burn/rip/tear/hurt the offending leaf in an effort to set an example for other leafs that would think attaching themselves to my bicycle was ok. Re: [RBW] epiphany, or just a reminder
I'm skeptical on planing beyond a good feeling only in that to gain energy you have to give it away first. If the frame bends / flexes under power than planes back you have given the energy away in the first place bending the frame instead of transmitting that power to the ground in the first place. I'm sure it exists but I see no advantage to it. You don't get power for free. [RBW] Re: Rambouillet conundrum
My 68cm RAM is my go fast bike. I'm 235 and usually in the 225 weight class. The bike comes in at about 25lbs with everything on it, and feel great to me. May not be for everyone but it feel quick and nimble and actually rides very well.I am in the wonderful position of being a perfect fit for Grants system. I run my bars about seat height, and at 6'5" the larger 67 AHH / 68 RAM / 64 Bomba give me three bikes that make me debate what to ride often. They each have specialities.. but overlap enough on meandering that sometimes it's just which one has a big enough bag for the day . I run the Gran Boise 32 that measure about 30 on the Ram the 70x37 Panaracer on the AHH great tire fyi.. so freaking smooth. and the the 700x50 Supreme and Big Apple on the Bomba.. I think I like the ride of the old style big apple better. .. but the supreme took me through alaska and many tours including goat head country with maybe 3 flats over the last 4 years. the AHH is my go to this week.. the only thing I miss on my ram is a kickstand... I mean I really really really really really miss my kickstand.. did I mention that it needs a kickstand.. Did I mention I don't get many miles out of kickstands.. they get loosey goosey and bend and then useless... and I despise the two legged stands as I break them and they fall over more on me than a single. Oh I'm sorry I have a Blue Ram instead of an Orange one.. Night folks. Kelly -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. [RBW] Today is the Day
Well all I've done the last three weeks is second guess, spend money on bike porn and agonzie over this and that. The time has come my new friends.. I'm in Celina OH picking up my AHH today and getting some riding in to boot. I'm to old to be this excited over a hunk of steel.. but guess I'll never grow up.. One down .. next will be how to build that Bombadil up.. sheesh.. wonder if my heart will hold up through all the excitement... Oh and FYI.. figuring out my weight weeny race componets was easy compared to this.. sheesh Kelly -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. [RBW] Re: Hilsen versatility
Lets see it's a long list of things I was trying to figure out. I went with platform pedals, and I love them till I hate them, but the hate isn't often enough for me to change out yet. I played with a couple different platforms before I got this bike on an old waterford 1200 frame but with these new ones.. all I can say is WOW.. Played with the idea of power grips on them.. but naa.. to much like clipping in getting the pedal straight etc. Grip King http://www.flickr.com/photos/tksleeper/5192534311/in/set-72157625432975212/ I really struggled over the bar end shifters I can say now that I will be keeping them...did well on road, off road and the entire ride was enjoyable. Bar Tape Color - I have tan with a honey saddle.. hmm match it or not.. heard shellacking wears out.. may try the matching leather brooks tape whent his wears out. The Jack Brown tires are fantastic .. if feels quick.. comfortable and steady as a rock. The dyno wheel.. I ordered a Schmidt and it's on the way.. and I have a Edelux light here now... will probably order a tail light Monday. .. still not sure about this setup.. will let you know after I ride it. Hoping it lights things up better than my minewt. Fenders for me were easy.. which is quiet and will stay that way... SKS wins hands down.. I wouldn't think twice about ripping them off and throwing them away to make room for wobbly wheel or unclog mud.. then put a new pair on when I got home... an expensive fender set .. that would bother me. I think some of the shiny steel fenders are swt looking.. never say never Still debating wheels.. the xt wheel set is really nice.. Phils have bling appeal.. big bucks too.. then again Chris King ain't cheap. (remind self.. a smart bike .. efficient.. practical) I wasn't going to do a rack but I bought two bags.. a large and extra large.. so I put the rear rack on. it just makes good sense to me. This is the rack .. and the first one I use the rack with leather strap on back to hold it back.. I thinks it worked well. http://www.flickr.com/photos/tksleeper/5193133134/in/set-72157625432975212/ This is the larger bag... Gallon of milk, 1/2 gallon of chocolate milk, loaf of bread.. this bag is great. (now if I knew how to take care of it) http://www.flickr.com/photos/tksleeper/5191601960/in/set-72157625210417815/ i was worried about the triple crank set.. I mean really.. the last dura ace compact crank I purchased was like 400 plus dollars.. how can a 120 dollar or whatever it was crank>>> well it's beautiful and works well... I wish the same company made a rear deraliur. .. the 105 works great.. always had on many other bikes.. great product.. if I can figure out how tog get the black type off and make it all sivler I'll be happy.. I HATE looking down and seeing "105" sorry.. my vainity (remind self practical bike, a smart bike.. breath deeply) I think now it's just ride it ... the air pump looks good but I still have an inflator in that bag and will use that pump IF I absolutly have to. One of the biggest things for me now today is terminology.. hell I have to go out and document the bike and write down componet names I can't rember.. g On the ride today I was on busy city streets, sidewalks, park paved trails, single trac, back country roads and hills .. had a blast. This bike is more than I could have hoped for. Did I mention it photograghs well? Kelly PS. My wife is selling her 57cm Merlin full dura ace to buy a Rodeo.. which is what I would have purchased had they made one big enough.. but I wouldn't have had my kickstand... already love that. [RBW] Ride Report - Early thoughts on AAH
I started a thread awhile back asking or stating I thought I would lose 2 or 3 miles per hour. I started another thread on Bicycle Lifestyle "How important is speed" or some such garbage. Then as reading the Simpleone thread here it looks like it was vearing off into weight and ride quality etc. I can say that I was right .. I lose about 2 to 3 mph when riding my AHH on the road. That is a significant speed reduction that can be attributed mostly to aerodynamics and tire pressure. I'm a big guy at 6'5" tall and 225lbs when I sit up it's like putting the brakes on so having a riding postion up all the time has a cost. I was way to comfortable to worry but did notice that people I used to drop at normal pace were making me work and add being a bit out of shape.. I was soon on my own. Here is a speed calculator which shows what many are saying.. the weight doen't effect that much within reason. http://bikecalculator.com/veloUS.html But start messing with going from hoods to drops and you see a 1.xx mph different.. that is about the difference in normal riding setup from my old bike to AHH.. Going from Tubulars to MTB tires shows close to 3mph difference. Anyway it's fun to mess around with and see estimates on cause and effect. But what did stand out besides that? Very windy day today.. stability.. I realized I wasn't getting blown all over the road and how easy it was to just ride. Stopped using spd pedals and went with the grip kings.. legs are tired in different places. I believe but can't prove that if speed was important I would go back to spd's and get a mph difference back... shrug.. I quit wearing lycra so the last three days of riding have been in musa pants and wooly undies.. at close to 25 miles per ride.. felt great.. though the new saddle isn't near as comfy as the one I have broken in. Zero hand, neck irritation.. even not wearing gloves of any kind.. sweet! I know nothing about Geometry of bikes but this was comfortable for out of the saddle climbing .. yes suprised me.. as my tour bike is wierd out of the saddle cramped.. this felt smooth and nice like my race bike.. Attitude- While keeping up with the group I started to sweat.. said i didn't come out to workout .. seeya.. stopped and took a picture of the Clydesdales at Grants Farm. When I did get home.. and this may be the most important.. I was looking for things I needed at local stores for an excuse to get back on the bike. I can assure you that didn't happen after rides on the race bike. That's it today- guess this would be more directed at folks that are wondering the cost of comfort .. and to state I believe there is a cost.. it's just not from the weight. kelly -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. Back in the day when I worked in the trucking industry we would often machine, grind and other wise do what was needed to make the sprockets for salt spreaders and such align correctly. [RBW] Re: Noodle vs Bullmoose?
I've been a drops rider my entire riding life (except for mountain bike) I just told them to put Albatross bars on my Bombadil .. just back from paint.. So I'm hoping the Albatross is the way to go. I am interested in how you set it up for a quick change out? Do the quick disconnects really save a lot of time considering you still have to adjust everything again anyway? [RBW] Re: Hunqapillars?
I've ridden a LHT, and have many friends that have them. But honestly I'm amazed that anyone would consider it to be an option to or equal to the Riv Line. Different strokes for different folks and all that, but bar none I have never ridden a bike that rides as good as or that had the quality or resale of the Rivendell. So if I save 500 bucks on the frame over a hiborne (I keep typing hilbourne as my middle name is kilbourne, guess they need to change the spelling) I get it back the day I sell it and have a better riding bike to boot. Anything else I go to equals more value. Which is also a lower cost of ownership. So while I believe the LHT and other Surly bikes are wonderful, I don't believe they are in the same ballpark.. not apples to apple comparison anyway. If so why ever buy a Rivendell? My wife has a beautifyl 57cm Merlin extra light that is setup to fit her .. we can barely get 700x28's on it but we did. She test rode a Hilbourne and AHH and road her Merlin inbetween when I picked up my AHH and came back from the ride and ordered a Roadeo telling me to get her Merlin sold. I've heard this story from many many people in the short time I've been around. these bikes. I've seen and ridden the customs that my other tall friends ride that don't have room for fenders and just don't ride as well. (note they don't have a bell either) Oh well.. Since this is a Rivendell Owners Group, I guess I can get away with this post.. ;) Right??? lol later Kelly On Dec 4, 3:12 pm, Mike wrote: > > What more is there to discuss? > > > :-) > > Yeah, I saw that. [RBW] Re: Roadeo vs AHH. Your thoughts?
I would ask that heavier be defined. What is the difference 1lb 2lbs? Is it even significant? Much of the race feel would be in fit, lighter wheels, higher air pressures or even just a set of drifters. I guess the real question is.. will the geometry of the Roadeo make the ride feel differently. I know my 67cm AHH weighed in about 25 pounds with fenders and xt wheelset / jack browns. [RBW] Re: Shimmy, according to BQ
I had an experiance with a high speed shimmy .. always over 50 mph and if I was trying to turn it was even worse. Tried everything. Giant eventually gave me a new frame .. only because they didn't have a matching fork for the frame I had.. in that case they believed it to be in the frame. It was pure torture.. I don't like being afraid of my bike, but after having it shimmy/shake at 57 mph in a turn I was afraid of that bike at speed. Another time at 63 mph. Headsets, wheels, tires, handle bars, stems.. seat adjustments.. what's worse the only way to test to see if it's fixed was to get back to that speed. After I got the new frame is was like night and day.. and relaized the bike had been loose or looser than the new one.. loose = not as stable even in those 30 40 mph turns as the new one.. I trying to say that means anything.. just saying I don't agree that shimmy is part of a bike or that we should have to suck it up. If a bike shimmy's it takes the fun and love for the bike away.. a deep gut renching saddness that the bike isn't what it should be. As a consumer a shimmy on a new bike is not acceptable to me. Period. I expect the answer to be found... in design or something. Later Kelly -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. That is complete garbage to suggest a driver be responsible for not hitting you no matter how dark or unlit up you are. Law should and does in some places require lights. Just because you get run over by a car doesn't make you a victim. The person that hits the idiot that ran the stop or didn't bother to use lights or swerves in front of them have to live with it. Pull the vehical off the side and out of the way. >never an excuse to hit a cyclist or pedestrian, period. Except when the pedestrian is jay walking - jumps off a bridge in front of you etc... and a cyclist is NOT a pedestrian.. it is another motorist. Another motorist who does not deserve more protection than any other motorist or any less. Given the right circumstances it will happen to any driver.. and if you are a cyclist .. a farm tractor .. or a skunk.. you're going to get hit. Like the pedestrian jumping off the bridge, if you are traversing a windy hilly 45mph two lane road at night with no lights.. expect to get hit... the jury will treat the accident as though you jumped off the bridge.. In the end regardless of how legal it could be, is or should be.. being right isn't all that ... from the grave. No one else should be punished for you bad decisions either. Ok I never fit in a Triumph TR6 or a Spitfire, or well that is a really long list. Now I find the perfect bike my AHH... 67cm but some thought I should go double top tube. I didn't as my test ride on a 65 cm was very tight even out of the saddle on hard acceration. I figured I would get my double top tube on the Hunqapillar to replace my tour bike.. not to be.. not a big enough bike not to mention they went to the diagnal tube instead of horizontal.. not sure I like the look. What about you? Is the diagonal really needed? Was the horizontal that had been used not a good design or is the diagonal just overkill in most cases Talked to my wife about paying for a 65cm Hunqapillar with horizontal top tubes as a 3k custom. At least that way I get the look I want.. but short people got no reason.. grrr.. should be a stock size bike.. ya'll should be taller.. I don't want to wait a year... pout. Ok I'm over it.. sorry If I was even only a 6 footer there would be plenty of frames. Guess in 20 years I'll be pissed off and talking about bicycles that I didn't fit on too. hmm what to do. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. [RBW] Re: Just Thoughts
Well the Hilbourne seems awfully close the AHH that I just bought. Though it looks like I'm buying the wife one once we see what shade of Red is available. I have a 96.5 PBH Weight about 225 .. which is normally Feb weight.. bad year for weight. Wife cooks to good. I go for week to 2 week long tours... C&O was about as rough terrain as I've done.. but I do carry 65 70 lbs with me on the panniers. So... custom to get what I want makes more since than buying another bike just because It might work ok.. I have a garage full of those. Have to see.. thanks for the imput... guess I'll call riv tomorrow talk.. later Kelly -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. [RBW] Re: Fenders and Speed
When it comes to speed, areodynamics is more important that weight. However on a more realiztic note I went through some of my numbers over the last few years before .. (brain washing) and now. So on a typical Hill Hundred ride in Indiana on my carbon fibre 17lb bike no bags fenders etc but riding with friends the average speed over the last few years has been around 15 to 16 mph. This year I road on my Tour Bike with fenders racks and a bag or two and started at just over 40lbs for the bike with heavy Marathon Plus tires.. average speed for the day taking it easy .. 14.6 Out of last years 4500 miles 3500 was on the "race bike" but social rides since I don't race.. average speed 15.4 Average speed on my fixie 16.2 Average on my tour bike on 350 mile DC to Pittsburg 10.4 mph. So from a 125lb bike loaded to a 17 pound race bike under normal (not racing) riding conditions had maybe a 5 to 6 mph average difference. Fenders to me would be so insignificant by themselves as to be laughable. I would imagine you could lower your handle bars 1/16 of an inch and make up for the added drag of the fenders. (I made that up as an example) So after all that brain stormin I sold my race bike .. Bought a Homer Hilsen..now you are stuck with my ramblings :) Have a great day Kelly On Nov 2, 5:38 am, Bruce wrote: > I put that off for two years, and finally took the honjos and racks off my > Saluki. [RBW] 10 dayish Tour Destination
My wife and I had a wonderful time riding the C&O ToePath from Washington DC to Cumberland then the Allegeny on to Pittsburgh in early Oct. Then I was thinking of my tour from Boulder Co to St Louis Mo and remembered making a wrong turn and riding some wonderful gravel road rollers for 20 miles or so and how there was so little traffic. I'm supposed to take some first time tour riders on the Katy Trail in early June 2011 At this point we are doing the Erie Canal in late Sept early Oct 2011 So I was looking for something closer to the C&O toepath rideable with lots of things to see and places to go, asphalt to single track to gravel roads etc... haven't seen anything quite like that. Idea? Being within a 600 mile drive of St Louis would even be better :) Thanks Kelly -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. [RBW] Re: Riv & Rail - Travelling by Bike and Train
I've had several great experiances traveling in Missouri via Amtrak with roll on service. My problem is even a boxed type ride is expensive. By the time they treat each of my panniers as a seperate bag, and the bike addition and the ticket, I'm cheaper to fly. [RBW] Ordered a Bombadil
Ok so I got my 64 cm double horizontal top tube frame paid for and sent off to paint. (or close) I was going to set it up strickly as a tour bike, but now I'm thinking that would be great for the tours but what about the other 49 or 50 weeks a year. Keven about has me talked into Moustache bars and thinking about the Albatross. Then we talked about making it as different from my AHH as possible and going with 700x80 tires and fenders. Tonight I ordered a Shimano dyno hub. I've never had one before figured it was a good place to start. Thanks again Keven. If you know what level lights that would be brighter then a Nite Rider Minewt I'd be a happy camper. My PBH is 96.5 .. I was going to go with a Nitto Standard 10 cm then I read some place that it might look different with the sloping top tube??? Not sure I like the dirtdrop but, no good reason. Now I'm getting a headache thinking about it to much. How would one make a quick change setup between the Moustache bars and Drop Bars.. without retaping??? later Kelly -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. [RBW] Test riding a Rivendell on the East Coast
While I have been a longtime fan, I have never actually riden a Rivendell bike. Now I am getting serious about buying one, and I would like have a test ride before I buy. I live outside of Ocean City Maryland on the Delmarva (Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia) Penninsula. If anyone here has a 60-64 cm Rivendell of any model near me I would I would love to take a quick spin on it. The range of size is so large because I'm trying to check out the Rivendell sizing. By the way I am still in the market for a 62 cm Quickbeam. Thanks, Kelly --~--~-~--~~~---~--~~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. [RBW] Re: 20 Things Garage Sale Every Saturday at 10:20
Yeah I do like the idea of online garage sale items. Buying the items online would be like an assumed risk and there could possibly be a no return policy. Posting the items online would be great because I live 3000 miles away and going to the sale is obviously not a reality. [RBW] WTB: 64cm Quickbeam
I posted a few weeks ago hoping to buy a 62cm Quickbeam, and I was not able to find the right size. I've remeasured and after much thought, I'm going to squeeze on to the next size up. So if you have a 64 cm Quickbeam you'd like to sell, contact me off list. [RBW] Re: Taking My Atlantis on Tour
Looks like a great bike, and a fun route. David, The rack apears to be a Nitto big front rack from Rivendell. --~--~-~--~~~---~--~~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. [RBW] Should I be worried?
I bought my new Quickbeam several weeks ago and I love it. However, while building it up I noticed a few hairline cracks in the paint under the top head lug. This is weird, as the rest of the bike is in perfect condition. The cracks are raised from the surface of the paint and are like little ridges. So the question, should I be worried? Here is a pic: http://tiny.cc/CCrye or here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/31296...@n07/3722235822/in/set-72157619611428557/ You can also see some other pictures of the completed bike. [RBW] Re: Should I be worried?
Sorry for the confusion, I meant that the Quickbeam was new to me. I bought the bike barely used from the original owner and he said that he had never crashed the bike. When I checked around the fork crown and downtube lug and there didn't appear to be anything out of the ordinary. The straight edge showed the top tube was perfectly straight. Sanding sounds like the sure fire way to tell, but I'm hesitant to start. However,I will if there is no other alternative.
