Re: [RBW] Positive review of sneakers and tires

I use the 32 mm Paselas on the Ram and 37 mm Paselas on the BStone MB-2.
Like them a lot. Not a high mileage tire, but okay.

[RBW] Re: Positive review of sneakers and tires

2012-08-01 Thread Amit Singh
I was running Jack Brown Blues for a LONG time. Wore through 2 tires (so
proud!) and had on the second set on before jumping over to the non-tour
guard 37mm Pasela.

Here's a photo of the new fatty tires during yesterday's
ride: http://www.flickr.com/photos/amisingh/7687477028/lightbox/

During brevets I ride Grand Bois Cypres.

There really is a difference.

I'll be curious if anyone else gets a pair of the Evolv kicks and what they
think. I like them a lot more than my Sambas The shoes are made for
exploring, so in addition to being grippy and comfortable, they've got good
toe protection also. I like them a lot. I own a pair in the black and the
copper.

Here's a blurry photo of the kicks at the end of yesterday's
ride: http://www.flickr.com/photos/amisingh/768802/lightbox/

Amit - I ordered a pair of Cruzers - should get them tomorrow. I'll let
you know the prognosis. BTW - I had 35mm Pasela Tourguards on my Hilsen
for a while. Barely worked with my 45mm Honjos, and I found them comfy,
but heavy. I also ride the Cypres (awesome tires) but have some Jack Brown
Greens lined up for when they wear out.

[RBW] Re: Rode to work today in flip flops

2012-08-01 Thread SteveD
I just add pedal spikes to my Grip Kings last week, and find that they work
well in keeping my feet on the pedals when encountering bumps in the road
or when it rains; and the pedals are just a comfortable as when they were
when I didn't have the spikes installed. And that's wearing either sandals,
sneakers, or bike shoes (without clips or SPDs). I still like wearing my
Ibex wool jersey and pants, but yesterday I rode to work in shorts (over my
wool pants for added comfort) and sneakers. It's a real plus not having to
carry a bunch of extra clothes and shoes for the office. And I agree,
having to slog around a coffee shop in clipped bike shoes is a drag.

[RBW] FS: Paul Mini Moto Brake Silver High Polish

2012-08-01 Thread The Cripler
I have decided to give up on running a Mini Moto front on my
Atlantis. There just isn't enough clearance to run Big Apples no matter
how much futzing I do, and I'm not willing to drop down to a 35mm tire.
Anyway, I am selling one brake. I have owned it for about three weeks or
so, and picked it up from the Paul wearhouse myself. Everything you need is
there as it would be new. There are a few marks on the spring adjuster nuts
from using a 15mm wrench to adjust tension and about two rides worths of
wear on the pads. Not a big deal and the only thing to distiguish them from
being brand new. I can post/send a pic of spring adjuster nuts if it might
be an issue for you. $90 shipped. I will be out of town from tommorow
through the weekend and would be able to ship until tuesday at the soonest.

Thanks,
Chris

Got going early this morning for my commute, and got in some extra miles on a
very pretty mixed surface route that had enough steep hills to make me choose

I do something like this too.

Since I wear cleated shoes for my clipless pedals I impress my mates by walking
around like a duck.

My mates seem not to notice but the other coffee aficionados do seem to take
note. I'm uncertain but they seem
not to be positively impressed.

[RBW] Re: Imminent Mystery Bike Reveal

2012-08-01 Thread grant
I'll be interested to see the reactions. The bikeswell, it was a long
time ago, but the deal was Not Much Overlap with our current linesa
different KIND of bike, and even kind of an experiment. I ride one every
day, have for a while now---the proto for many months, and the actual (we
get one of each size here too) for maybe 30 hours so far now. It isn't
WOWZA, and that's probably good, since our normal bikes ride well already.
I won't spill any beans on it here---will leave that for the owners.
