[RBW] Re: New Simple One frame
Yesterday I read on their site somewhere that the first order coming in was sidepull, and the orders following would be canti. Something to do with the previously stated confusion on the site. For what it is worth that text is gone, and I can not find it this early, makes me feel like I dreamed it or something. Mayby a million fixed gear flyers all placed orders at once because the green was so rad that the whole culture would shift to putting brakes back on their bikes as long as they were sidepull? who knows. We were lucky with the weather - - I don't think it hit 90 that day. Chris Kostman did a nice job organizing the ride. My buddy JJ has been riding for 8 months, took a wrong turn, and still finished in the top 15. The bike is such a wonderful way to see new places, meet nice people. This scenery, the whole feel of this event was epic. Nice folks, too. On Apr 19, 4:14 pm, Amit Singh wrote: > Congratulations on your ride Max. Your photos are great, they almost > makes me jealous. [RBW] Re: bent steerer - I think
Time for an update. I took the fork/frame to Mitch Pryor (MAP Bicycles) here in Portland. After looking at the damage it was his assessment (and I agree) that the fork crown is bent, not the steerer or fork blades - go figure. Fork crowns, it turns out, are hollow and they can be damaged in a crash. Also, the top tube has a small ripple behind the head tube lug. There is no sharp bend, just a barely noticible ripple. I will probably get that repaired (replace the top tube) locally, though Mitch (and Keven at Rivendell) both say the bike is rideable with a new fork and no work done to the top tube. So, I need a new fork. A custom fork would cost anywhere from $250- $400 and I'd have to wait in the builder's cue. I contacted Riv and spoke with Keven. He may have a new Quickbeam fork for me! I'm waiting for the results of his search. Apparently, they have a number of out- of-spec SimpleOne forks they may sell. The out of spec parts on the fork are the hourglass rack braze-ons; apparently they're for M5 bolts instead of the specified M4 bolts. I'm OK with that. Honestly, there's no reason to use a CO2 setup unless you are trying to literally shave seconds on refilling. It's a one-shot deal, and I've seen enough MTB XC racers walking their uselessly flat-tired rigs home from the halfway point, cursing their improperly seated "fast-fill" devices. You have no margin for error. Once you have or see that happen, you always carry a pump for backup, decide to stop using them altogether, or have to rely upon the kindness of strangers to fill up your tube. In any event you end up back with a pump. If you like keeping things compact, I've been using a Crank Brothers larger barrelled mini pump which has held up well for at least 6 years. It fits easily into a Keven's Bag or L'il Loafer front bag. - Jim -- Jim Edgar cyclofi...@earthlink.net Could you take a moment to vote for me? [RBW] Re: Hell's Gate 100 pictures
Kojaks are like the Roadeo: I cannot say enough good things about them. I chose them for this ride (a) cuz that's what's on the Roadeo, and (b) the ride was reported to have lots of rough, alligatored pave. In actuality, the pavement was kind of rough, but really not too bad. Bottom line is, Kojaks are very, very comfy. Pretty light, corner great, taste great, less filling, etc etc On Apr 20, 9:28 am, Mike wrote: > That's a ride I could get into. Wow! That's great! I rode an noticeably curved-top-tube Raleigh for years. Steel is serious. Good luck on getting the fork worked out! [RBW] Re: Slimey Green - go look
My only complaint is that the graphics are so... well... simple. Oh, how I remember the days of graphical daring at Rivendell; the Bleriot, the Saluki, the Quickbeam all had great fonts and graphic design. I must say the Simpleone is just a little dull. Oh well, it'll be a hell of a bike nonetheless. On Apr 20, 6:16 pm, "Jeff, KC MO" wrote: > The Simpleone? > > On Apr 19, 1:17 am, "Rob H." wrote: > > > > > Oooh nice prototype! [RBW] Re: New Simple One frame
In a post to this forum a few weeks ago, Grant Peterson said that he got this bike to inspect the paint and discovered that the rear brake bridge on it won't work with side-pulls.
