CD Burning Problem
I'm using Nero Burning Rom to burn some CD's which have tracks which run together--most notably, Pink Floyd and Chicago. No matter what I do I cannot get the transitions between tracks to go smoothly. I've even tried a couple different ideas in GoldWave. I would appreciate any ideas on how to correct this problem. I'm assuming the former. Are you looking for anything in particular, such as an off the shelf MP3 player or something designed specifically for the blind? How much capacity are you looking for? I personally recommend the 1GB Zen Stone from Creative. It doesn't have a display, so it's totally accessible. You can also use Windows Explorer to copy songs to it, so there's no issue with accessible software for your PC. You can play books on it from Audible.com, Overdrive.com and I assume other book providers. It costs around $35. On the downside, it only has 1GB of storage, although I heard you can get the same model in a 2GB version now. It also only supports MP3 and WMA (although not lossless WMA). I personally recommend the 1GB version, although if you can get the 2GB model, that would work too. Creative has a few MP3 players called the Zen Stone, like the Zen Stone Plus. These other players include an FM radio, a voice recorder and they come with a display. I've heard some blind people report on these lists that they've have trouble with respect to accessibility with these models and others say they haven't had any problems with them. Burning and Extraction Problems
I'm running XP Service Pack 2. Everything is updated including Windows Media Player 11 My problem is that I can't get any third party software to recognize the one burner I have. It's a very generic burner-I can't even remember the name of it-but it only wants to work with Windows Media Player. That's all well and good and I have WMP set up the way I want it. My point is that these other programs should work on my machine. I've tried Nero Burning ROM and Roxio's Creator Classic for burning and copying files and the burner isn't recognized. RE: problem with CDex and the CDDB
My first experiment would probably be to simply reinstall CDex without uninstalling it. Perhaps the data base problem will repair itself that way. It's just a suggestion and, if you haven't already done it, I hope it works. Dan Kerstetter -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Terra Syslo Sent: Sunday, August 31, 2008 7:51 AM To: PC audio discussion list. Subject: problem with CDex and the CDDB I am having a problem with CDex trying to retrieve the disc information from the remote CDDB. It is happening on every disc where it immediately says no match found. I just started having this problem last night. I've tried disabling my firewall, and that didn't seem to help. Winamp retrieves the track information when I listen to the CD, but I don't know how to import that information into CDex. I really don't want to manually type in all the track names and album title and everything, when it was working right before. RE: Problems creating an audio cd with Neero, a puzzler!
Have you tried selecting all the files on your burn list and then you can go into properties by pressing alt enter. Make your adjustments from there. That's what I do and it seems to work fine. HTh Dan Kerstetter -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Donald Breda Sent: Tuesday, September 02, 2008 7:28 AM To: the pc audio group Subject: Problems creating an audio cd with Neero, a puzzler! Well this sounds like a real novice question and thats ok but believe me its not, or at least I don't think so. I did some audio editing in Goldwave cutting sections from large audio files and breaking them out to several small files. I made sure each cut was trimmed nicely removing any silence at ends of both files. I then fired up Nero 6 to create the audio cd. I encountered the following problems. Here was my goal first of all. You need this to understand the problem. I wanted an audio cd that played every track automaticly with no silence or gaps between tracks. I checked the no gaps between tracks or however Nero says it on the beginning screen. That didn't work. I then created another cd where I checked the same box but then went in to the advanced controls and checked remove silence at end of cda trakcs and even with both boxes checked it didn't work. If I played track 1 I manually had to advance to track 2 it just wouldn't play on its own unattended. What is going wrong? Is it a bug with my particular version of Nero? Am I missing something, thats entirely possible? I need to create an audio cd with tracks but where one track plays rapid fire right after another as if there were no tracks. Yes I could merge the files in to one file and burbn it that way but I really wanted the track marks. what am I doing wrong? I need this for voice over demos and thats the way they want them these days. Any help would be appreciated. thanks in advance. P. -Original Message- From: Dane Trethowan Sent: Thursday, June 27, 2013 6:40 PM To: PC Audio Discussion List Subject: Altec Lansing Expressionists Speakers, Cheap Price But Not Cheap Sound The subject line says it all when it comes to this pair of speakers. The Altec Lansing Expressionists speakers have little in the way of features but who really cares about that when cost is low and sound - for a pair of desktop speakers - is worth recommending on its own. The speaker system has only 3 buttons, power, volume up and volume down which are situated on the rear of the right speaker. the volume up and down buttons are identifiable by the plus and minus signs, the power button is a button with a detent, not that much different to the sort of button you'd find at the bottom of an iPhone screen. The Expressionists speakers are designed in such a way that they cannot be easily knocked over, this is achieved by the speakers having cylinders at the rear which touch the desk and rubber feet at the front, I also suspect that the cylinders give an opportunity to the speakers to output more bass. Each speaker contains 1 3 inch driver and sound is surprisingly good throughout the spectrum. The system has 2 3.5MM jack input sockets which are mixed together so 2 devices can be run simultaneously if required. Volume is louder than I expected and the system does indeed deliver a good punchy sound, nothing tinny about these speakers whatever. If you want high performance for music or games then this speaker set is obviously not the 1 to pick but if you have a very limited budget and want a set of speakers with all round good performance without too much compromise then this system at $50.00 is very hard to pass up, I'll be using this speaker system until my Harman Kardon sound sticks arrive in a few weeks and I have no trouble with that. ** Dane Trethowan Skype: grtdane12 Phone US (213) 438-9741 Phone U.K. 01245 79 0598 Phone Australia (03) 9005 8589 Mobile: +61400494862 To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: pc-audio-unsubscr...@pc-audio.org To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: pc-audio-unsubscr...@pc-audio.org To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: pc-audio-unsubscr...@pc-audio.org

As far as bleeding of sound through the speakers themselves? I have heard of this actually happening, does the manual specifically say that plugging in the headphones will mute the sound? Believe it or not some models don't mute the sound entirely to the speakers, the sound output to the speakers is just reduced. Now another question, does this speaker system actually have a line out connection as well as your standard line in? I'm wondering if perhaps you have the computer connected to a line out rather than a line in, this can cause some funny things to happen. And finally, If the plugging in of headphones is supposed to mute the speakers and this isn't happening then it would appear to me at least that you have a fault with your speakers. I'd never heard of them until recently. I really like them. Now if I could just get rid of this headphone problem. The manual suggests using line out instead of the standard speaker plug. That doesn't work well on an audigy 2ZS sound card. The manual also instructs me to raise the wave volume to 70 percent. With this particular sound card, however, it's a bit much. I've also adjusted the advance controls a bit. I'm using them in a small area and can turn the sub down and it's still very responsive. -Original Message- From: Pc-audio [mailto:pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org] On Behalf Of Dane Trethowan Sent: Tuesday, November 05, 2013 8:45 AM To: PC Audio Discussion List Subject: Re: Speaker Question/Problem Thanks for this, I'd not heard of this brand until you'd mentioned it, they certainly get some reasonable reviews, <http://www.productreview.com.au/c/speakers/m/klipsch.html> On 5 Nov 2013, at 10:20 am, dan Kerstetter wrote: > Klipsch ** Dane Trethowan Skype: grtdane12 Phone US (213) 438-9741 Phone U.K. 01245 79 0598 Phone Australia (03) 9005 8589 Mobile: +61400494862 Fax +61397437954 To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: pc-audio-unsubscr...@pc-audio.org To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: pc-audio-unsubscr...@pc-audio.org

I have tried Digital Jukebox from Marvelsoft; in that case yes, I can make the playlist and then go to the Project menu and tell the program to burn the tracks to CD; a blank CD is in the drive, but when I hit the okay button after I'm given the total playing time for the tracks to burn the CD, the speech just goes silent and a message pops up that the dj.exe has stopped working and should be closed; I haven't heard back from their tech support yet, maybe tomorrow after Christmas. Meanwhile I'm wanting to find out more about Express Burn by NCH Software to find out if it's accessible with screen readers before I plunk down money for it. Question about Headphones
I'm posting this on behalf of a friend who is looking for special headphones. Perhaps someone here can help me out. Below is her question I'm looking for something that I can use part-time at my volunteer job to answer the phone so they'd have to have a microphone. If it's possible to have a split set so I could use one ear for the phone and one ear either for my book player or the computer that would be nice too, but I'd worry about volume since I hear better out of one ear than the other. In my experience, it is very rare that one can simply choose between full-range and boombox sound with size and price remaining constant. I have not heard the Bose Companion series so I don't know if I would like them or not, but there are times when I have found a good boombox sound to be acceptable when the speakers fit into a tight space or when they were being used by people who might not be careful with them. RE: MP3 TO TEXT - Repost
You might try Express Scribe from NCH Software at: http://www.nch.com.au/index.html Its primary use is transcription. One of the options in the options menu is setting up speech recognition. It will create a text draft of a file. I haven't tried this particular option so I can't vouch for its accuracy. RE: CD Ripping Question
I've used exact audio copy. The only problem I've had with it is that I can't get the files to be named the way I want them. Dan -Original Message- From: pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org [mailto:pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org] On Behalf Of Kelly Pierce Sent: Tuesday, June 02, 2009 4:04 PM To: PC Audio Discussion List Subject: Re: CD Ripping Question Hello, I use Exact Audio Copy and LAME for MP3 encoding. Exact Audio Copy can also encode with the lossless FLAC format and I rip music CD's in FLAC. EAC scans each track twice and compares the .wav forms. If there is not a match, it scans the track more than 20 times trying to obtain two results that match the closest. In this way, EAC achieves perfect or near perfect rips of CD's. Because the encoder is external, I can use the latest versions of LAME and FLAC for ripping. With CDEX, this is tricky to do and one is generally left with the outdated technology. With EAC rips, you will be satisfied with the results for your lifetime. It is that good. Formats it supports are MP3, WMA (non drm and perhaps not the latest version). I haven't tried to access DRM protected WMA files on the unit, which would perhaps involve the software provided with the machine, which isn't that accessible, from what I recall folks saying. Olympus DM520 Again
Either I am incredibly dense or I have a problem somewhere. Using windows explorer I cut and pasted files into the music folder of the recorder. They show up on the computer when I look at the recorder as a disk drive; but cannot access them on the recorder in the music folder. I've tried copying both folders and individual files to the recorder's music folder. I would appreciate any help or suggestions. RE: Olympus DM520 Again
Thanks for your help Bob. Your response brings me to two questions: First, when you transfer music are you using any special software or just doing it through my computer? Secondly, I've been through all the settings on the 520 and cannot find a setting to play all files. How does one find that setting? Thanks again. RE: Olympus DM520 Again
After I asked those questions, I figured out the answers and set it up. I must say that I'm glad I use it mostly as a voice recorder. For all the trouble it doesn't do a good job of playing music. I'm using mp3 files and I get better sound out of my stream. Thanks again for your help. I transfer with WMP10. But sometimes just copy and paste using Windows if I'm sure the file is in a compatible format. Something I find difficult is if I set WMP to create folder hierarchy on device, (the default action), it is harder to find the music I want to play. You use the up or down arrows to move to a folder which will be the artist, then the right arrow to move the album list. Then right arrow again to get to the list of files in that folder. The intro playback setting is under display and sound menu. iTunes Installation Problem
A few weeks ago, Apple's automatic updater ran and I was told there was a new version of iTunes. I pressed the install button. The install could not complete, however, and I received an error message about bonjour. I tried uninstalling the bonjour and installing something new from Apple called bonjour printer services. This did not solve the problem. Is there a way I can uninstall everything and let iTunes start installing itself from scratch? I've tried a system restore to a point when I know it was working properly. This did not solve the problem. I would appreciate any feedback on this. I thought about using a sledge hammer on my computer, but I didn't feel like cleaning up the mess. LOL Seriously I'll take any help I can get.
