a new sound card

2007-10-19 Thread Sarah
Hey does anybody know of a sound card that does not require a power outlet, is
usb 2.0 compatible and has such a good preamp that you can turn it up a little
bit and you would get a very hot signel? my friend's sound card is dying a
nasty deth and he needs one with these specks. Thanks.

Music Library 2.5 and Mega disk Changers

2007-10-19 Thread Peter Scanlon
I wonder if anyone knows about these devices or simillar.
These can be linked to PC and controlled by software called
Music Library 2.5

disk Library 2.5

Music Library Version 2.5 supports CD changers that connect to a computer by
means of an RS232 serial port. The brands of changers currently supported are
Sony (available in 200-disc, 300-disc, and 400-disc "carousel" models) and NSM
(model CD3101AC, a 100-disc heavy-duty changer found inside many commercial
jukeboxes). Sony "CD-only" mega-changers can be attached to an RS232 serial
port by means of a SAVR, SAVR2, or SAVR3 adapter (made by

I wrote to the software writer to ask if the software was accessible. His
response below. does Java mean inaccessible. It does not appear that there is a
demo mode of the software. A on line demo was useless.
His response below.

---
Hi Peter -

I am not sure if our software is usable by you. It is written in Java,
and it uses a Java-specific variation of the graphical user interface.
This is not the standard Windows graphical user interface, although it
is similar. In particular, we make no use at all of the menu system,
although we do have dialog boxes (Java-style, but very similar to
standard Windows dialog boxes). Mostly, our user interface is based on
buttons and scrollable selection lists. We also have keyboard support
via function keys (F1 through F12) for the must common operations (Play,
Pause, Stop, etc.).

We have interactive online demos versions of both Disc Library and Music
Library. You should try them, perhaps with the assistance of a sighted
person, to see if your "screen reader" accessibility tools can handle,
or can be adapted to handle, our software.

I am fairly certain that the Sony CD megachangers are available in
Australia, as we have several customers there. It does appear at this
time that Sony is no longer promoting these products, although they have
not actually been discontinued (yet).

As for the Gracenote CDDB, we are unable to offer it as we are not
licensed by them. This will not change. However, you will find that
freedb.org is very similar and provides excellent services. The freedb
version of the CDDB database was "spun off" from the original CDDB
before it was commercialized by Gracenote, and the freedb version has
been well-maintained ever since. It is located in Germany.

Hi Rick,

I would assume that the scripts that worked with 5.20 should work fine with

2007-10-19 Thread Rick Harmon
Hi,

For anyone interested, I have the scripts and 6 tutorials on using Goldwave
5.x I don't have anything for the newest version but the tutorials might be
helpful to many here learning Goldwave.

http://www.blind-geek-zone.net

The Goldwave tutorials are in the audio section. Press the h key until you
hear Goldwave and you'll be in the right area.

The scripts are in the programssection, be sure to get the correct ones for
the version of goldwave you are using.

Hi list, i have a problem. last night, when i closed down my
computer, it didn't play its usual song. this morning, when i booted
up, it didn't play its usual song, and when i asked eudora for my
e.mail, i got the e.mails, but eudora didn't announced that it had
finished with its song. also, when i loaded skype, it usual gives a
whooshing noise, but today it didn't. i then found, that foobar, wma,
would load audio files, would give me details of them, such lenhth
and things such as 22050, but wouldn't play. obviously some setting
has gone adrift. i can't find where the playback controls are, or
whatever it is i need. my synthesiser is working alright. if anyone
can help, i would be grateful. brian.

Re: help needed

2007-10-19 Thread anthony campbell
hi brian, your audio settings are in the control panel and it is called
sounds and audio. go in their and tab to advanced and enter. to get to the
windows sounds. when you go in to sounds and audio just do a ctrl tab and it
will take you in and you can change everything in their. just tab to a list
arrow down when you get to the item you want to assign a sound to tab to
browse and then to look in and select media tab to list view and select the
sound you want and tab to open then you can shift tab and play the sound you
have chosen for that item. you can do this for all your changers and then
tab to the end and press apply.

and your done.

hth
anthony
