Re: some sam discoveries

2007-09-27 Thread russell Bourgoin
Hi Steve,

I never did speak with paul as I got company and the time
flew by. I did figure out how to adde new music, though. In your
explanation below, you say to add a new category? What if the music
is all, say, country or rock. You, assumably, have the rest of that
type music in the appropriate categories, so I didn't understand your
advice re: creating a new one.
I ran the windows automatic graphics labeling program and,
only one new thing emerged. When on tracks, a right arrow renders
new folder 1. When you right click, or applications key or shift
f10, a context menus comes up. One of the choices is add. When it
is activated, you then get a choice of adding a file or a
directory. Just press enter on your choice and an explorer tree view
comes up to find the new material. Press enter on it and it gets imported.

When I went into program files, spacial audio, and then sam,
I found a m3u playlist called first time. Its what plays the files
and announcements when you first run the program. So, I'll be a real
happy camper when I can figure out how to load and play a predesigned
playlist, like, say smooth jazz for dinner music, etc.
I assume that if your music is properly tagged, when it gets
loaded into the database it goes into the appropriate
category. Problem is, not all music is properly tagged! Well, I'll
try to further explore the category scheme and its
usefulness. Mostly, though, I set up preset picked playlists to
match the occasion and encourage requests.

Thanks,
Rusty

Legacy is not a brand name. It means simply that generic (read older)
drivers should work with it. Tell the person who built the computer
for you that there should have been some drivers on the CD that came
with the motherboard. if they don't have that CD any more, then they
should be able to go to the web site of the manufacturer of the
motherboard and download them for you, or you can do it yourself.
Also, when Windows was installed, whoever installed it may have opted
out of installing sound card drivers for whatever unknown reason.
Bottom line, there are many suspects here, probably all of which you
will have to research and run down and possibly try before you find
the correct set.

If you already have the category for the kind of music files you want
to add, then, of course, you don't have to create one. That kinda
sorta should go without saying.

Your assumption is incorrect. The only fields from MP3 tags that are
used when files are imported are artist, title, album and year.
However, the other information is stored but not indexed. You can
search for it, but it is not related to the category as defined by
SAM. Import a bunch of files, then go searching and see what I mean.

Hi Alex,

Not yet, in order to do this properly you have to find out what sound card
is in here. We'll start with the program that presents your specs then we'll
know exactly which drivers to get.

Re: Audiotapes onto CDs

2007-09-27 Thread Larry N
Samuel, if you don't mind spending a bit more, DC6 offers 4 levels of
dedicated hiss removal and always lets you preview the results before you
save them. Even after you save your results, you still have the original
file and can go back to it if you change your mind. You can also create your
own hiss removal filters within the program.

If memory serves, the price of DC 6 lives somewhere in the middle between
the cost of GoldWave and the full version of Sound Forge.

2007-09-27 Thread nick danger
Hi Alex,

Go to http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html then download and install the
program once thatt's done it will give you your PC's specifications. It
will also tell you the type of soundcard you have and which drivers to look
for.

Hi Alex,

Not yet, in order to do this properly you have to find out what sound card
is in here. We'll start with the program that presents your specs then we'll
know exactly which drivers to get.

Re: Nero 7 Question

2007-09-27 Thread Larry N
Tony, the interesting... oK frustrating thing about Nero 7 is that it will
not let you out of its little browser when you want to choose an alternative
method of finding files. For instance, let's say you have files that you
want to gather together from several folders. With Nero 6, you could do that
easily. What I've found with 7, is that I had to create an audio folder and
ask my wife to set Nero to land in that folder when choosing audio. That
should work, as it has been my experience that Nero 7 doesn't want to
migrate from folder to folder using the keyboard. On the plus side, it will
let you work with files within the folder as before.

I don't think I'll be buying Nero 8 unless it's a lot more excessible than
7.

Burning Audible Books to CD

2007-09-27 Thread Larry N
According to someone I talked to at Audible, Nero 7 is the only program that
can be used to burn Audible books to CD, something that is apparently legal
with many of their books. My problem? I really like Nero 6 and several other
burning programs a lot better than I like Nero 7. So, my question, has
anyone had any success burning Audible books to CD when using any other
program?

Re: Where can I find drivers for my soundcard? I don't have them.

2007-09-27 Thread Cornell Ligon

Hi,
Crucial.com has a scanner that goes through your machine to check for memory
compatibility. When I ran mine through to see how much it would cost for
additional memory, the results gave me my video card type and memory, mother
board type, memory type and audio card type.

Just go to their site as noted above, skim through the homepage and allow it
to scan your system. That will avoid having to go into the box itself and
allow you to go to the homepage of the audio card to seek drivers.
Alternatively, it may be listed under hardware section of My Computer
properties and you can locate it and update drivers that way as well.

Best Regards,
Cornell

RE: Yahoo and LaunchCast Plus

2007-09-27 Thread Christopher Bartlett
When last I attempted to use Launchcast, I had a
major problem with the flash-based controls that
allow you to customize your station by rating
songs you hear. It is quite possible to
initially set up a launchcast station, but the
ongoing rating/customization was unusable in JFW
8 when first I tried it. I haven't tried it
since, has anyone else had more joy?

The only problem with using another program to burn audible books to CD
is that Nero is the only program that can convert the audible book

Other accessible audio books

2007-09-27 Thread Blackwell, Clifford
Emusic.com has just started offering audio books in the .mp3 format.
They pretty much duplicate some of the Audible.com offerings, but they
are not tied to any proprietary scheme. They run around $10 per book
with a few being $20. You purchase a monthly subscription.

In this case, you should be able to use any burning program that works
with your screen reader.

I don't know if it will help ut there are two small holes on the back of the
player and one of them is a reset button you have to use something small to
press it. If you downloaded the scripts and thecreative media lite you
press control plus alt plus u and that will take you to the zen stone page.

RE: sound card question

2007-09-27 Thread David Reynolds
Joe,
What you need to do is to switch the headphones on. Somewhere in the
creative menu there is a settings option. When you go into this, there
is a headphones tab. You first have to check the headphones checkbox,
then you need to decide whether when using headphones, the sound comes
out of the speakers as well. Quirky I know, but that's creative for you.
My memory is not that good, but if you get stuck, I still have a machine
with this module set up, and I guess I'll fire it up, and be able to
tell you exactly which option to choose.

Best,

Dave.

Are you connecting the Stone before booting up? It might help to
connect so it "sees" the Stone when it comes up.

Also, you might try upgrading the driver for the device. I can't

Hi all. Somehow, I have gotten adobe audition recording only on the left

Re: Audiotapes onto CDs

2007-09-27 Thread Larry N
Hi Bill. I have no problem using DC 6 with the keyboard. The menus and all
functions speak very well. You could download DC6 and try it before you by
it. Unless they've changed the demo since I used it, you can try any
function you like. You just can't save anything.

Re: Zen Stone Blues

2007-09-27 Thread Christopher Chaltain
Have you started with a reset of the Zen Stone? I would try this first
and then I'd upgrade the firmware doing a complete format as part of
upgrading the firmware.

First, to reset the Zen Stone, you'll need to perform a pin hole reset.
There's a tiny hole on top of the Zen Stone, next to the slider switch.
You'll need to find that hole and use a pin to push a button reset down
in that hole. It's actually not as bad as it sounds once you've done it
successfully.

If you're holding the Zen Stone, so that the round button is facing you
and on the right hand side, where the slider and headphone jack is on
the top and the USB connector is on the bottom, then the hole you're
looking for will be on top, next to and just to the right, of the slider
button. I can barely feel it with my fingers. You'll then need a pin to
find that hole and depress the button that is found in that hole.

This will reset your Zen Stone and then you should be able to connect it
to your PC without the IO error. If you still get the IO error then you
may need to look into your USB device driver, but I doubt that will be
your problem.

I think you can update the firmware and format the Zen Stone from the
Creative Media Lite software, but you should also be able to download
the latest firmware and install that onto your Zen Stone. I'll look into
this in a bit and post more later. I hope this helps.

If you want to customize your station, go to:

canada, therefore, can't make my own station due to copyright, however, this
sure as heck doesn't make it a less enjoyable experience, as there are about
a million stations to choose from, not to mention you can browse by artists,
album etc, genre, too. Adding songs to your "crate" or station as you so
choose. I absolutely love it- and hope you do, too!

Blue beat loves hearing from us blind users- I e-mailed them about an
accessibility on there website, and got a prompt response, asking me what
they could do to fix the problem.

I can't say enough about how unknown this website is, how nobody knows about
it. Its one of the best, and it makes launchcast look bad in comparison.
But, I'm on dialup, so its sort of dificult for me to get in there, the
minimum bitrate is 160, so I recommend having a dsl or higher connection
speed, I'm getting high speed tomorrow, so if you need more help, I'll be
happy to add more detailed instructions about things.

hope that helps,

Hi. I was thinking of subscribing to emusic, especially for the books.
However, they want you to use their new download program to get the books.
Here's the problem I saw.
I tried to download the program, but my virus program would not allow it.
Seems the program contains spyware.
Or some kind of malware that nod32 didn't like.
Do you really want to knowingly put spyware on your machine?

Emusic.com has just started offering audio books in the .mp3 format.
They pretty much duplicate some of the Audible.com offerings, but they
are not tied to any proprietary scheme. They run around $10 per book
with a few being $20. You purchase a monthly subscription.

In this case, you should be able to use any burning program that works
with your screen reader.

I've looked at the site, it sounds fabulous.
I have registered, downloaded and installed the Bluebeat player, but now, I
get this message when trying to launch a station:

Unable to communicate with audio device:

I'm not sure what this all means, but I have an email into technical
support, so we'll see what they say.
Accessibility of the site sure looks great.
Thanks.
