RE: Microphone question.

2007-08-26 Thread Shaun Oliver
Lisa, it doesn't always do well to spend big on a microfone for skype
any microfone that's capable of being plugged into your pc that you can
get from k-mart, big W or the like will suffice.
I got a $40 plastic fantastic I bought from the then grace brother's and
it still works to this day.

hi lisa, it just depends on what you need to do with it. if it is for
skype the one that i use is pretty good, it is a logitech noise
cancelling one.
you should be looking for a one about £15 or $30 this will give you a
good quality.

if you want i will add you to my skype contacts as well.

Making two audio sources come through one pair of headphones

2007-08-26 Thread Lynn Schneider
I am a medical transcriptionist and a co-worker confided in me recently that
my screen reader's chattering was making her crazy. She is not a
transcriptionist, but we work in a small office and I try to keep my volume
down as low as I can. I also turn my typing echo off to minimize the
chatter, but it is only when I am proofreading something that Jaws really
needs to chatter. In reality, although I did not say this to her, actually
her and others' chattering, combined with the copy machine, phones ringing,
doors opening and closing, etc. makes it difficult for me to hear Jaws and
my doctors' dictation, which is why I often have to increase the volume on
my computer. I realize that I need to take ownership of this problem and
solve it immediately for all concerned. Is there a way that I can have the
volume from my computer and my transcriber machine come out of one set of
headphones? I had a Y cable which made one source come out of one ear and
one out of the other, but I found that totally unpleasant and unacceptable.
I am willing to spend whatever amount of money it takes to fix this. Any
help with this problem would be very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

You can get a Berringer (not sure of the spelling) mixer for $60 or
$70 which will serve very well for this purpose.

Re: Making two audio sources come through one pair of headphones

2007-08-26 Thread Bob Nelson

I think you can get a Behringer UB-502 for about $50 or $60.

It is the smallest Behringer mixer and has microphone and line in.

And yes, Behringer is the correct spelling.

It will solve your problem plus give you options to do other interesting
things as well.

SoundForge 8.0 Volume settings

2007-08-26 Thread Matthew2007
Hi all,

Using Sound Forge 8.0, does anyone know how to adjust the volume within the
processes menu? that is, by default one is only given 4 volume choices:
untitled, 200%, -50%, and mute. I would like to know how to switch this to a
custom setting of 100%. I've read the manual over and over as well as
running endless Google searches and can't seem to find a single answer.

Thanks

Matthew

Re: Making two audio sources come through one pair of headphones

2007-08-26 Thread DJ DOCTOR P
High Lin,
I also work in a similar environment.
Except only I take orders over the phone and type them in to the computer.
I have to listen to Jaws in one ear, and the consumer in the other ear via
special phone hook up.
But they are both coming from two separate sound cards on my computer at
work.
Is it a possibility that the dictation machine could be patched in to your
computer that same way?
Because if it can, you can listen to them both the same way that I do.

Re: SoundForge 8.0 Volume settings

2007-08-26 Thread Stephen Green
I have no idea if this will point you in the right direction, but I use
sound forge 6 with Jaws 8 and there is a trick to accessing the gain control
on the volume page.

On the volume page tab once and you should hear jaws announce quote gain
unquote.

Then in jaws, switch to say all with insert plus a, now the gain control
will start to announce the steps up and down as you press cursor up or down.

You can increase the gain by larger steps by using the page up or page down
buttons.

In sound forge 6 the page remembers what your settings were last time you
used the gain control.

Alternatively, a good set of scripts will also give you access to the gain
control.

Re: SoundForge 8.0 Volume settings

2007-08-26 Thread Matthew2007
Steve Da Man! I would normally say "big thumbs up," but I've recently
learned this has an obscene connotation outside of the US. ha ha, he he.

Big thanks for this info as it did in fact help me reduce the volume just as
I intended. I would have never, absolutely never thought of doing what you
conveyed in your post below.

Now I'm still left with somewhat of the same problem. I still can't seem to
get rid of all of that slight yet noticeable crackle at some points within
my audio rips. Now that it appears that I might have ruled out the sound
forge volume, any other suggestions out there? A new sound card is next on
my list, but I think the ripping software I'm using might also be a factor.

Thank you Steve,

Matthew

Glad to help Matthew.

Thumbs up is O.K. in the U.K. too, but the thanks should really go to the
list member who gave me the tip in the first place, but unfortunately I
don't remember his name.

Finally, I'm sorry but I can't suggest anything that might help your problem

Cool Text-Based TV Guide Listing

2007-08-26 Thread Roger R. Cusson
This is actually a message that I already sent to one of my best friends,
but thought that the meat of the message would also assist other
individuals; that is why the entirety of it appears here beneath. ---

You may or may not remember this discussion!!

Back awhile ago, you had found for me, the exact channel for the Soap
Network, based upon my ZIP Code / Channel Provider!

Remember, I thought it was AWESOME!!

Well, just found a source with a very easy-to-use interface, and although it
is set up for Cell Phone Wireless customers, the web-interface is very,
very, very clean!!!

It has to be, as folks that pay for Cell data, do not want a lot of pictures
and extra junk; after all, they are paying for data on their phones, and
they just want the meat and potatoes of the information in question.

This is the best thing I have found since loaded pizzas, and it works very
well from the PC!!!

http://wireless.tvguide.com/(S(welwue45wqytpj55i24mfq55))/index.aspx

Just click on TV Listings...

Next enter in your ZIP Code, and click the Next Button!

Then, enter your appropriate cable or satellite provider by clicking on the
supplied links, and then you will get a cool text-based listing of the
channel number - the network - and the show or event that is happening at
the hour that you set up. By default, it uses your systems time to determine
the default hour of programming that it will display, but that can be
changed...

A very excellent and very much stripped-down interface...

If you should have any further questions, please don't hesitate to let me
know!!

You can get a Berringer (not sure of the spelling) mixer for $60 or
$70 which will serve very well for this purpose.
