That's the way I use the cable box in my office. I have Times Warner. Regular cable TV service gives me a few channels. With the cable box I get a hundred extra or so. I run the audio from the cable box into my stereo and listen to the TV through the stereo. Jerry Chirp|Chirp|Chirp: It's the Bat, Chirping Bat .Com ! Hi, Jerry and everyone. I used one from speaktome.com which I bought for ten bucks, I think. It worked fine until it didn't, about a year later. I'd like to find another one as well that might last longer. I think these things are made cheaply and just not expected to last. Spending is better than mending . . . Re: audio editor shopping, Total Recorder vs. Goldwave?
Copying audio onto a computer from vinyl (old fashioned records) or tape is certainly appropriate for the list and the subject seems to be of interest to many list members. So, post away! If anyone is interested, I use Goldwave to record a wave file from an external turntable, cassette or open reel tape machine. Then I use Nero to burn CDs. I have Diamond Cut Six to clean up noise but I'm by no means very experienced in using most of the features. I have used the noise reduction in Goldwave and it does just a fair job. There are many ways to copy audio onto a CD and I think it comes down to the software and hardware you have and how much you want to spend on additional software and hardware. Re: Listening to TV on my computer
What I do is something similar. The cable line feeds into a deddicated vcr. I then plug a y-cable (with 2 rca males and 1 3.5 inch male) from the output of the vcr into the input jack of a fm wireless transmitter. Then when I want the audio, I merely turn on the dedicated fm transmitter I have locked in place for that purpose. A transmitter whichworks well for this purpose, as it has no built in cable but a 3.5 jack on its interface, are the old Arkon SF-120 and sf-121 soundfeeders. The sf-120 with their single aa battery is long unavailable but the successor sf-121, powered by 2 aaa batteries, is still available from a few sources including www.hififorless.com which this morning shows 6 in stock It is also available directly from Arkon www.arkon.com for $19.95. The hififorless.com price with its limited current stock is $11.88. Both do not include shipping, of course. Re: Listening to TV on my computer
High Jerry, I have Dishnetwork satellite service here at the house. I also have the receiver hooked in to my stereo system too. To me, it sounds better coming thru the stereo then it does coming thru the TV set. But if you just have to have it coming thru your computer, there are 2 ways you can do this. If you have a TV tuner card, you can hook the cable box and or satellite receiver directly in to the card. Put the card on channel 3, and there you are! If all you want is the audio and not the video, a pare of RCA to 1-8th adapter cables will do the trick. All you have to do is just plug the RCA end of the cables in to your cable box and or satellite receiver. And plug the 1-8th end of the cables in to your computer's sound card. At this point, the audio will come out of your computer speakers. My best regards to you all! - Original Message - From: "Jerry Richer" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "PC audio discussion list. Billy Sure, one could do this! The reason I use the fm transmitter as, that way, I can listen to the signal via a conventional radio or headphone. Re: Lossless
Hi. There's no 'best' in terms of sound quality for lossless formats as they all yield the same result; that is, a music file that is perfect in comparison to the original. However, you might want to consider what formats are supported by most software and hardware players and I think you'd find that lossless WMA is probably the most well supported. You can use goldwave to convert from WAV to lossless WMA and back. Regards. Re: Lossless
You'd need near lab conditions and equipment to do this properly. You can though take some guidance from the resulting bitrates of lossless files. Typically, a track ripped in lossless WMA has a bitrate of between 900 and 1,000 kbps. This is, of course, an average so parts of the music will peak much higher and there will be some lower points too. What I'd suggest is play it back through some real hi-fi kit to compare the original CD against the lossless file. You'll need to play the CD through the computer to get as close as possible to an A/B test. Regards. Re: sites for downloading music
I'm probably a litle late here but allof mp3 was replaced by mp3sparks.com and you can use your current allofmp3login to download stuff. They also except vis and mastercard. Supposably the downloads are just a tad more expensive to cover legal costs for us licensing. Re: audio editor shopping, Total Recorder vs. Goldwave?
I use Sound Forge to do all my audio cleaning because I like it's filtering. I haven't tried Diamond. Simple sound settings restoration program
This simple, new program was recently announced in IRTI's email newsletter called News Clips. I don't know anything more about it except the exerpt I have included here. Sounds like it could be useful in a number of situations. Jeff - What Happened to my audio! Do you ever find after someone else had been using your PC that changes in your audio settings mysteriously occurred or is completely shutdown rendering your screen reader useless? Have you ever installed or used unfamiliar software and magically your PC systems audio output is disabled? We can tell you that IRTI tech support hears about this scenario so often it has prompted us to write a New Talking Utility we referred to as Audio SafeGuard. Audio SafeGuard is a simple self voicing control that enables you to adjust your PC's default audio settings providing accessible control for Volume level and Mute State for your Master Volume, WAV audio output, CD Player, SW Synth, Microphone and Line input devices. The next time Audio SafeGuard is launched, it compares the current default PC audio settings to the stored preference file and automatically resets all audio parameters back to your preferred audio settings. Audio SafeGuard can be configured to run automatically when your computer starts up or you can launch the application manually with a hot-key.In either case, your preferred audio settings are automatically restored without the need to ask for sighted assistance. If set to run at start up, Audio SafeGuard temporarily loads, runs a sound check, then automatically exits operation freeing its memory space for other applications. IRTI's Talking Utility - Audio SafeGuard is now included on IRTI Turnkey Computer systems. You may also download a 30-day trial version from IRTI's web site. If you find this to be a useful utility, and we think you will, the 30 day trial version may be purchased and activated for $9. http://www.irti.net Audio List Help, Guidelines, Archives and more... http://www.pc-audio.org To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
