Re: transcoding with winamp 5.33?

2007-03-04 Thread Wes Derby
Sorry if someone's already responded to this, but I have two ideas.

First, in Winamp's Preferences menu (control+p), under Plugins, there's a
"Get Plugins" button...Either click this or go directly to Winamp.com and
search, and see if the plugin is available there.

If not, a reinstall should do the trick.

Re: winamp

2007-03-04 Thread Wes Derby
Great suggestion...This won't help him with XM, so in that case, I recommend a
subscription to XM Radio Online, available at listen.xmradio.com. I think the
trial is three days; not sure what the monthly fee is since I get it free as a
regular XM subscriber...But, you get a LOT more channels with a real sub than
you do with Winamp. I also recommend using the XStreamXM player instead of the
default one on XM's site.

Re: Winamp Scripts

2007-03-04 Thread Wes Derby
And, to add to Jana's question, since Debbie's untimely passing (also meaning
jfwlite won't be updated), what is the best site for scripts? For those who
write scripts but either don't have their own sites or want to spread the word
to all JAWS users, what script sites are you posting to?

I'd love to see some updated Winamp scripts for 5.33...It'd be cool to have the
library working right with JFW 8.

Hi Hank,
The only thing I've found is called "XtreMe PCR" and is used with the XmPCR

Some menus (like ITunes) come in non-standard color combinations.
Some lists come like that, too. Easy CD Creator's highlighting scheme
is similar to stripes, one being bright, the next being a darker
color. In JAWS, focus on a track and you'll hear it say white on
Azure or some such shade of blue. The normal JAWS highlight detector
works with a color called Bright White, not just plain ordinary white.
Now, if you move the JAWSCursor up and down through the list of tracks
you are not on, you'll notice that INSERT+5 gives you two different
color combinations. This is why I says it's like being striped,
because that's what stripes are--bands of alternating color, two or
more. The key is the invisible checkbox next to each track. It's
invisible because of that damned Delphi programming interface that so
many developers (like SAM Broadcaster) just love because you can slap
screens together quick as the Easter bunny.

On Fri, 2 Mar 2007 18:58:09 -0600, you wrote:

>Hi! Does anyone know of a good FTP client that is accessible with Jaws?

FTP Explorer and FileZilla are both free. Watch out for FileZilla
Version 3, though, you don't want that one, you want the earlier
Version 2 because in Version 3 they changed the whole layout and
accessibility thing and they broke it bad.

FileZilla also has another annoying problem, and the reason it's
annoying is because not everybody (including the developers)
experiences it. The problem is that for some reason, entire folders
of files cannot be uploaded for certain users. It's not a protection
or permissions problem, since other clients (like FTP Voyager) do it
right, but the FileZilla folks can't figure it out!

On the pay side, the two most popular and accessible are FTP Voyager
from Rhinosoft, and CuteFTP from Globalscape. Some folks have also
had great success with Flash FXP and claim it's more stable than the
other two. While sticking to the RFC like glue, they all do basically
the same things, but Voyager, when talking to its companion product
Serf-U, extends the FTP command set, yielding such features as
resuming broken-link downloads, which the standard RFC does not
support. If you're going to be talking to a Serv-U a lot, Voyager's
the one to get. If not, FieZilla or FTP Explorer will do, just watch
out for that folder upload problem.

Ipswitch has a very nice client out, called WS-FTP, whic many sighted
people have tried to get me to use, but its accessibility leaves a lot
to be desired. For instance, it displays both side of the connection
on the screen just like the others do, but all the movement within and
between these panels must be done with the mouse. TAB doesn't move
you, arrows don't change anything, it's all mouse-bound. I've never
seen a program like it. Good, they say; accessible, not.

Yes, and not a lot of people know about the Midi Mag list, where you usually
hang out, right? So, how would they be expected to have any preconceived
notion about Cakewalk's name change??

Hi,

If you really are interested in music at that level you might consult a

The only reason why I made some fun out of this is that the common name for
Sonar in the conciesness of the public still is CakeWalk.

Re: speeding up audio listening.

2007-03-04 Thread Bobcat
Dean. Thanks for the info about WMP speed controls. I wondered how to sped
up the ctrl+shift+g speed. I like using this with talking books. I find it
works better than some speed controls in other talking book players. I just
put the speed up and can still understand what is being said. It doesn't
even smash music as much as other players, not that I want to speed up
music.

Jaws friendly multi-track program

2007-03-04 Thread Billy Ray Legendary
Hey, Guys!

Okay, after a few wrong turns, I am on the track of a true multi-track
program that is Jaws friendly, or screen reader friendly for you sighted
listers.

I was originally told that Sound Forge was such a program, but have been
recently told that is not the case. I have experimented with Audacity, but
have found that it is not completely friendly with my screen reader.

I am in pursuit of true multi-tracking software, and not software that
is just for production of voice recordings. I will be doing music
production with it, and have been out of the loop for over ten years now, so
please, be somewhat complete and kind in your answers.

I really appreciate you guys! Thanks a heap!

Re: FTP and DST Off Topic

2007-03-04 Thread Jana Jackson
It won't necessarily tell me which FTP client is accessible. No worries, I
finally found someone who was kind enough to help. I do have a life, and
sometimes it's just helpful to find someone who is in the know and
considerate enough to try to assist, especially when you're trying to find
information on several topics at once. My recent requests for help have
prompted me to consider starting a listserv of my own through my Web site.
I've always found that you get a lot more flies with honey than with
vinegar, regardless of the topic.

SoundForge 8.0 Problem

2007-03-04 Thread David Tanner
I am sure someone out there knows what to do to fix my problem.

I have a file that I actually saved in SoundForge 8.0D. The file is a *.WAV
file. The file was saved at 192,000 BPS, 32 bit. If I attempt to play the
file with SoundForge 8.0 I get an error message that a device was not found.
So, I unload SoundForge 8.0 and run the latest version of Studio Recorder, and
the file loads and plays perfectly in Studio Recorder. The Studio Recorder
does show the file as 192,000, 32 bit. So, what's going on. Both software
packages are on the same computer, using the same soundcard with XP MediaCenter
Edition operating system. As you can imagine, the quality of the recording is
absolutely awsum. But, why won't SoundForge 8.0 play it when the file was
originally created in SoundForge 8.0?

Easy CDDA Extractor

2007-03-04 Thread Vicki
I have been trying to use the converter feature of
Easy CDDA Extractor, but it isn't working. I am still using the evaluation
program, and I'm wondering if this feature is disabled until a licensed is
purchased. Thanks.

Vicki

Slim box, screen readers and vista

2007-03-04 Thread Keith Gillard
Hello,

I will be receiving a new notebook ASAP loaded with Windows Vista home
Premium. Which is equivalent to Windows XP media edition. I am wondering
if there are people on this list who have knowledge or experience and could
share some light on the following:

1) I know jfw just released a vista beta. I don't know much about window
eyes. Which screen reader is further ahead and would work better with vista
applications and in particular, slim box?

All opinions are welcome...Keith

Features for Creating Playlists in FileDir

2007-03-04 Thread Steve Pattison
FileDir is a free and accessible file manager that has been designed
to work with screen readers. it is available from
www.empowermentzone.com/dirsetup.exe. In version 2.3 which has
recently been released there is a new feature to assist with creating
playlists. Here is the information about this feature:

Use the new Play List command, Control+Shift+L, to create a .m3u file
with references of tagged items to play sequentially. Types may
include .mp3, .wav, or .cda (the extension of a track on a standard
audio CD). FileDir prompts for the name of the play list to create,
defaulting to PlayList.m3u in the current directory. Focus is then
placed on that file (if in the same directory), so you can simply
press Enter to execute the play list. Note that if you want to play
tracks on an audio CD, however, you need to save the play list in
another directory that permits the creation of new files.

The rest of the features of FileDir are definitely off topic for this
list as they don't relate to PC Audio in any way.
