Re: studio recorder

2006-12-07 Thread Brian Hansen
If you're referring to the one put out by The American Printing House for
the Blind, I use it all the time. The only time I switch to Sound Forge for
something, is when I need to use a DirectX module. But as far as I'm
concerned, SR is definitely worth it to me. It works really well with
speech right out of the box, and one doesn't need scripts or set files to be
able to read the peek meters.

Blessings,

Brian

Presumably the recorded sound once edited and saved would be equal in either

Re: studio recorder

2006-12-07 Thread Brian Hansen
Studio Recorder for recording, and editing, is much easier right out of the
box to use with speech than Sound Forge. Through the use of the Snowman's
scripts for Sound Forge, SF is easier to use with JFW, but for just straight
forward ready to go, SR wins hands down. And APH is continually listening
to the SR users and adding new features.

Blessings,

Brian

Sound Forge accessability.

Ok, well if I could just put my 2 cents worth in here regarding Sound
Forge.
Now I'm not speaking on behalf of JFW here as I mainly use Window-
Eyes but for anyone to say that Sound Forge isn't accessible with
Window-Eyes may not know a few little tweeks that make Sound Forge
very accessible under Window-Eyes and I suspect may make Sound Forge
quite accessible with JFW.
Firstly, many of the track bars and slider controls can be accessed
easily by turning on Window-Eye's ""speak all" command when you get
to the trackbar or slider in question, turn "speak all" on and move
the cursor keys, see what happens, when you've finished your
ajustment, turn "speak all" off again. I think JFW has a similar "say
all" command so that may work.
I use Sound Forge 8.0 without any set files here, only things I
cannot read are the level meters but I set all that up through the
play and recording volume controls to 0DB so the meters don't mean
much to me anyway.
Another thing which I found helpful, the screen shots as shown in the
Sound Forge 8.0 manual are shown on the page as you'll find them if
you move around say the screen of the "normalise" function as
described in the manual.

On 08/12/2006, at 1:58 AM, Brian Hansen wrote:

Studio Recorder for recording, and editing, is much easier right out
of the
box to use with speech than Sound Forge. Through the use of the
Snowman's
scripts for Sound Forge, SF is easier to use with JFW, but for just
straight
forward ready to go, SR wins hands down. And APH is continually
listening
to the SR users and adding new features.

Well this is in fact a a sound card if you like, has the same
functionality only difference being that it is external rahter than
being internal which of course has advantages and disadvantages. The
main advantage being the computer generated noise level that some
internal audio devices suffer from, with the Imic this is absolutely
nill and the quality of audio is absolutely first class. I'm toying
with the idea of getting a few more of these things and ditching all
my sound cards and onboard internal audio devices of all my computers
entirely.

I don't know where you could find Cakewalk Pro 9. The program is now
called Sonar and we're up to Sonar version 6. Sonar works fairly well with
Window Eyes out of the box. There are free and $200 JAWS scripts available.
The $200 scripts offer great access as well as Sonar tutorial. There are
lots of blind people using Sonar.

Yes, it works perfectly with JAWS, and no, the scripts are already included
in JAWS, but, no offense intended, why are you using Cakewalk Pro Audio,
that is somewhat old. They're now up to Sonar Producer Edition. If it's
due to pricing, I can certainly understand, as Sonar is quite a bit more
expensive from what I've been told. It's worth it though.

Re: Some spaceship audio questions.

2006-12-07 Thread Gary King
Anders,

You can go to

www.nasa.gov

and read about the space shuttle launch. You might want to use the link to
the text version of the site. There are links to NASA TV where you can
listen to the audio from Launch Control and the shuttle. The launch is
scheduled for 9:35 p.m. Eastern Time in the United States. Unfortunately,
the weather may prevent the launch at this time.

Re: Them little round plastic things

2006-12-07 Thread Brent Harding
I heard these USB devices end up having latency. I wonder if that is between
multiple devices not being in sync or if it really takes enough time that if
you record something that it is going in the file a ways later than it was
made so that hitting stop cuts some off?

I've tried to send a message to the pc-audio list in reply to your
question but it keeps bouncing so here's the original message I wrote
again, if it bounces back from the list again then at least I know
you will have received it yourself this time.

I'm toying
with the idea of getting a few more of these things and ditching all
my sound cards and onboard internal audio devices of all my computers
entirely.

2006-12-07 Thread Dane Trethowan
Yes, I've heard of that problem before too however the Imic doesn't
seem to show any of those characteristics thus far.

Iriver hd 340

2006-12-07 Thread denise avant
Hello everyone,
I hope someone can help me with this problem. Recently, I loaded the rockbox
on my i-river hd 340. everything was fine for a couple of weeks. But on
Tuesday, as I was arrowing through songs, the i-river just froze. The screen
is on, and you can see a list of songs. But nothing happens when you push
any of the buttons. I tried recharging it but nothing happens. Can anyone
help?
Thanks.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Olympus WS-320M digital voice recorder,

2006-12-07 Thread Rich De Steno
There is information on it at www.blindcooltech.com. You have to look
through the podcasts up there; maybe do a word search for it. The best
price is probably at www.amazon.com. It records in a highly compressed,
lossy MP3 format, something like 64 KBPS, so you will not get high fidelity.
It is okay for speech, but nothing critical.

There should be a reset hole in which you can stick a toothpick or pin to

2006-12-07 Thread Stephen Green
thanks very much for your tip about using say all in jaws and sound forge.
It works a treat with the gain slider in volume. I've been trying for years
to access this slider from the keyboard as I don't particularly like the
scripts that are available.

Now I'll try this trick with any other diffivult controls I find elsewhere,
you never know what might work.

best regards
